Bites & Bashes is a cute little breakfast spot run by a mother-daughter duo, using produce from their family farm. The menu comes off as Asian-Mexican fusion with burritos and bulgogi items. We had the ube lava pancakes, Korean breakfast, crack fries, and the CFO. The ube lava pancakes comes with three moist, fluffy pancake generously drizzled with ube syrup and coconut flakes. This was soo good! The Korean breakfast is a skillet of beef bulgogi, onion, peppers, and two eggs over rice. It was a very satisfy and delicious comfort food. The CFO is a burrito with scrambled eggs, pork, beans, rice, and scallions. I tried a little of it and it was pretty good. The crack fries are a great appetizer. We had a chance to try this place out for breakfast yesterday. I had the Chilaquiles burrito which was a tasty spin on one of my favorite Mexican dishes. Flavor was good however I miss the melted cheese that a traditional chilaquiles plate would have. It was also on the dry side so it was good that there were two little side cups of red and green salsas that came with it. I used both of mine plus some from my wife's burrito. Service was fast and friendly and the small dining area was clean and new looking. Parking was an issue for me as I really don't like to park on the street. There is no dedicated lot and we had to park across the small side street and a few houses down and had to walk. Not a long distance but I don't like having to leave my car in front of somebody's house like this. Overall a nice breakfast. Would I return? If I were in the area and wanted a bite, yeah. But would I make the drive from the South Torrance/Redondo area where I live? Likely not. read more

Even if you added the sauce they give you or ketchup it was not good... I was so sad!! We did try the Mac and cheese balls and those were really good! This place is a very pleasant hidden gem. I'm always on the hunt for breakfast burritos and this place wasn't even on my radar, until Matthew Kang from Eater posted about it on Instagram. Ventured my way over immediately after and found myself in a quaint neighborhood in Lomita. Okay, so the breakfast burrito menu is entirely new from my understanding. See the photos attached because that's the most important part. Chef Julie Coser came up with an amazing assortment of exciting, flavor-packed burritos and I'm excited to go down the list one-by-one every visit. I went for the original to get a baseline reference - because if you can't get a regular brekkie burrito right, you can't venture out into the funky territory. I'm happy to say that this breakfast burrito, paired with the AMAZING salsa verde and pico de gallo, was a hit. The burrito was NOT greasy, which is a huge plus - very fresh, clean, and very balanced. I killed the burrito in just a few minutes. The main con is the price, which I'll be quite honest about - it's a tad too high. Compared to Phanny's - the Southbay's darling breakfast burrito spot - it's a few bucks higher, which makes it a bit harder to recommend. For reference, a regular bacon burrito from Phanny's is $11, while a three-meat burrito with avocado (which is really pushing it) is around $15. Compare that to Bites&Bashes' new menu, and some burritos start above $15. I'm not sure how I feel about this because I know the ingredients are great, and the flavors are all there - but assuming you grab a burrito, maybe a cookie or another side and a drink, and suddenly breakfast can be up to $30-35 a person. Nonetheless, I haven't had the other premium burritos as I mentioned - so value rests in the eye of the beholder. This place was amazing and the service was very positive. Maybe it's because I ordered takeout rather than dining in at the restaurant but my order was rather underwhelming. I was in the area running an errand and figured I'd try someplace that was on my list of new places to try. I was looking at the Nook and Bashes but decided on this restaurant since it was a bit closer. The reviews looked promising and my wife loves ube pancakes so I called in my order. I ordered the lava ube pancakes for my wife and the All American Breakfast for myself. I was rather disappointed that sausage wasn't available with my meal, only bacon. When I arrived, I planned on paying with a card but their system was down and couldn't authorize my payment after 2 tries. Luckily, I always carry some cash for situations like these or establishments that only take cash or check. The young lady at the counter was very polite and apologetic about not being able to make a credit payment so no problems with service. I'd give them a 5 for their courtesy and friendly attitude. Upon arriving home and opening the bag, I was really disappointed to see the small portions given for the price paid. Maybe the quality would make up for the lack of quantity? Well...nope. The pancakes were not only undersized but were not very fluffy. They had the consistency of breakfast pancakes served of my burger joint,Yorgo's, in my neighborhood for a lot less. I had to chuckle at the dollop of scrambled eggs they gave me. The one thing that impressed me was their glazed bacon that had just the right amount of sweetness and a touch of heat to make it special. The ube syrup on the lava pancakes was tasty but as I mentioned previously, the actual pancakes were not fluffy but rather chewy and undersized. The restaurant itself is cute and charming but having stopped in for takeout, didn't really influence my rating. $14.75 for the ube pancakes with no sides and $15.75 for a standard breakfast with small pancakes, a tiny portion of eggs, and 2 slices of bacon (though very tasty) are not a deal by any stretch of the imagination. I would have been a lot happier just going to the Pan in Gardena. They've never disappointed me like this. I hope those of you who dine in have better luck than I did with takeout here. read more

Just visited for the second time with my childhood best friend. I LOVE this place! The service is fantastic, restaurant is very clean and the food....oh my goodness, the food!!!! Here's what I've tried so far in two visits (splitting things, of course!): Korean Glass Noodles - this is worth the drive from my place. Generous portion and the flavor is just perfect! Highly recommend you add bulgogi! Korean Spicy Pork Banh Mi Sandwich - The meat is so tender and the jalapenos add just enough heat! Comes with little taster sides (think cucumbers, pickled radish). For the side, we ordered.... Crack fries - we didn't know why they were named this until we tried them. They are addicting!!!! Perfectly crunchy outside, soft inside. The sauce is outstanding! KBBQ Burrito - can you say heaven? Perfect amount of everything! Again, very tender meat. Flavors blend so well. (I wanted another one today!) My friend ordered the Meyer Lemon Bites and a cookie to take home. I'm sure they are also delicious! Lavender Lemonade - I'm not a lemonade fan, but I like this one! Guava Lemonade - What a nice twist to lemonade!! Also of note, I heard the lovely owner has her own garden nearby so all the flowers you see adding such beautiful accents to your food...it's from her garden! Last Sunday I stopped into Bites & Bashes Café on Narbonne, near the fire station by 256th, and ordered the original breakfast burrito. There are options, but let's be honest. Who doesn't love a good breakfast burrito? I say this as a loyal Phanny's devotee. They deliver consistency and a serious volume of burrito, and I respect that deeply. So please understand the gravity when I say this: this breakfast burrito knocks the pants off every other breakfast burrito I've ever had. And I have had many. This is not hyperbole. I genuinely cannot remember the last time a breakfast burrito made me close my eyes just to better experience what was happening in flavor-town. The breakfast burrito is, by nature, a humble food unit. It rarely aspires to that level of sensory takeover. But this? This was poetry, wrapped in an edible napkin. I dabbed a little green sauce on the first bite and promptly forgot my own name. I tried the red sauce on the next bite and nearly blacked out. It was that good. I have not stopped thinking about it since. The ambiance is functional albeit somewhat stark, it's not particularly cute but if it was then it might be sensory overload. This place just opened in lomita at a corner of a quiet street. The chef is a CORDON BLEU-TRAINED chef and few of their menu were asian inspired like vegetable dumplings and coconut shrimp, ube lava pancakes. They also have Latin inspired dishes like Chef Julio's omelette and Mexican salad. Some Mediterranean choices as well. Just had brunch here with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday and fell in love with this place! The food was amazing, the service was even better! Sooooo where do I start? The cafe is very clean, bright, and spacious with both indoor and outdoor seatings. There are street parking and a small parking lot on site. Chill vibe. Descent service. Food wise: we got the breakfast burrito with avocado and breakfast sandwich with bacon for to go. I was super exited for my burrito and couldn't wait to eat it. The problem is: being the one Asian person who's allergic to scallions/ green onions, I couldn't eat anything I ordered!! I was so excited about the breakfast burrito that I started eating it while in the car.. until I saw that there were scallions mixed in the egg... why didn't they put scallions as an ingredient for the burrito??? They listed it for the omelet, why didn't they put it for the burrito???? Why??? I would NOT have ordered it if they put what's actually in the food on the menu , not along adding $3 avocado. Or I would've asked if they could substitute. Seeing how disappointed (and hungry) I was, hubby offered to swap his breakfast sandwich with me. But guess what? It has scallions in it too!! (And no, it's also not listed on the menu). So basically we got two breakfast items and extra for avocado but I could not eat anything... I honestly wanted to give it less stars but hubby said the food was good and worth a 4+ and I did have a good experience up until I ate the food, so I guess four it is. Had breakfast here today with the family. If you are looking for good food and great service this is the place to go! Place was very quaint with very nice decorations. Food and drinks was amazing! Right portions for price. All the items we ordered were very delicious! You can tell that the ingredients used are fresh and homemade (even the gojuchang that has the spicy and touch of sweet). The staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Compliments to the chef who took the time to check up on us and ask if we had any questions and if there was anything else we needed. I wish I could have given this place a better review however it does feel like this place is trying to make up for ok tasting food by putting flower petals and trying to prettify their dishes. The bolognese had a fruit fly in one of flower petals but we just picked it out as to not make a fuss but it does concern me about their food handling and safety process. You order at the counter and they'll bring you your food if you decide to eat in. The service itself is pretty ok... we had to ask for forks because there weren't any in the bucket they had at the side and it seems like the kind of place that's not gonna check in on you or anything which might be nice if you prefer being left alone. It does feel like this place is up-charging because they try to make their dishes look nice and because of the minimalist interior? It was nice to try but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Breakfast bliss and Bites and Bashes Cafe! Bites and Bashes Cafe has been on my bookmarks for quite sometime but it wasn't until recently that I got to check it out. What finally got me to make the trip out was when I saw they had ube pancakes! I love anything ube and definitely knew it was time to try this place. I came on a Saturday morning with a friend. The place opens at 8am and we got there exactly at 8am and were the first customers. The cashier/waitress had not even arrived yet but the place was already open as they had a few employees working in the back. The waitress arrived a few minutes after us. As we were first timers; it was a little confusing at first but then we realized we order at the register and then we can seat ourselves. For our orders we chose to get the Kimchi Fried Rice ($16.95), the Ube Lava Pancakes ($14.75) and 2 Lattes (Hazelnut and Lavender) ($4.75 each). The waitress may have thought we were taking it to go at first as she handed us our lattes in to-go cups. No issue with that however and it the to-go cups actually were cute with a neat quote. The food came out fairly quickly. We tried the Kimchi Fried Rice first. This came with two sunny side eggs, two spams and kimchi rice. It was definitely perfect for sharing. There was a little bit of a spice to due to the kimchi and overall good in flavor. It was a simple yet tasty dish that really reminded me of homemade dishes that my mom makes at home. The Ube Lava pancakes were a treat! They came with three buttermilk pancakes drizzled in ube condensed milk and topped with shredded coconut. When I first saw the photos of this dish on instagram; I thought the pancakes themselves were ube versus buttermilk. Having the ube condensed milk all over the pancakes though was definitely unique and added that nice ube flavor. The pancakes themselves were nice and fluffy! I would get this again. Last but not least were the lattes. I liked my Lavender latte and overall it paired well with the dishes. It was a nice breakfast at Bites and Bashes overall. I will admit my expectations were a bit high going in and there were a few moments where it felt underwhelming (perhaps it was because it was our first time and I thought it was going to be a more of a full service restaurant.) Walking in and there wasn't a waitress/greeter was a little strange and having the to-go cups despite dining in was also a bit a weird but it was a good place overall and good food. One thing I also do have to note is parking is a bit hard. They mentioned having a lot a few blocks down but didn't notice that and I ended up parking in the neighborhood which didn't have too many spots. read more

I've been to this place 3x now and wanted to give it multiple tries prior to my review. It seems like I've always been slightly disappointed. Is it because this location and staff are primarily focused on catering? 1st time: to go bacon breakfast burrito they forgot to include the salsas. Ate it and thought where is the bacon (there's hardly any). Tasted decent tho and thought maybe this was just a hiccup. 2nd time: go to the counter, they give you a menu and tell you to sit down if dining in. Apparently you're supposed to go back up to order. Unfortunately, they never told us. We sat there for 15-20 min before realizing. Maybe a miscommunication but it was really annoying. Once we go back up to the counter, there are 4 orders ahead and realize the wait would be long so we leave. 3rd time. Bacon burrito again, same with little bacon. Got two lattes, one iced one warm both solid. Gf got the All American breakfast and this is where the 2 stars comes from. They put the eggs, candied bacon and pancakes together in a box...It's all smushed together, the eggs are bright blue from the sugar from pancakes. Imagine eating over medium sugary eggs?? We didn't, tossed. The Bacon also tasted old and expired, with the sugar masking this very unpleasant taste. Imagine a strong meaty aftertaste just from one bite that you can't get rid of even after brushing your teeth? It was gross. The pancakes were solid. Spent $47 for this. I think both the service and food can improve. Think it's the last straw, not going back. read more

Confession: I am a regular visitor here. Everything I have had has been next level/ amazing. You can't seem to make a bad choice. My only complaints are kinda the same for everywhere these days: the cost. A to-go burrito will set you back a 20 spot. Now, it will be delicious - but yeah that. For about the same price you can have the amazing Shakshuka or Kimchi Fried Rice (why no second egg? The Shak comes with 2 eggs) which seem a better value. Also the spartan decor could benefit some wall art and maybe a wall menu. It can get awkward fast with several people huddled at the counter looking at the paper menus. Selfishly I DO wish they were a bit closer to the Breakfast Burrito battle zone on or near PCH in Redondo or Hermosa, but now I am just dreaming. read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp and I loved it! However, I'll share the cons first: it's in a neighborhood and there's only street parking. Oh well, you know you need more steps. The burritos and omelets come with tater tots, so also ordering the crack fries, makes no sense! But the menu doesn't tell you the burritos come with tots. It was too much! The pros: the customer service was impeccable from the moment we walked in until we left. The people sitting next to us asked for a million extra things and each request was met with an enthusiastic "of course", "you bet!", "absolutely". The server suggested a chai tea latte with an added shot of espresso (not on the menu) and it was delicious. The food was fine. We had omelets and burritos, which is hard to mess up. But the service and ambience were top tier. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

The restaurant is very small and cramped, and instead of feeling welcomed, we felt rushed from the moment we sat down. The host seemed to be waiting for a tip before even seating us, which made the start uncomfortable. Our server rushed us through the meal, and before we were even done eating, we were pressured to leave because another group arrived. That's not the customer's fault--if the space is limited, the restaurant should manage reservations better instead of pushing paying guests out. For the cost, I expected better service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the ambience felt stressful rather than enjoyable. I checked this place out with my sister who was visiting and I'm so glad we were both able to enjoy the food and the calm atmosphere inside to just catch up. Parking in adjacent neighborhood was fairly easy. You come and order at the counter first, then sit down for them to bring out to you. Menu was just a fusion of so many cultures! (Ube - Philippines, Korean Fried Rice, Mediterranean, All American Breakfast, Mexican, and Shakshuka - North African) I tried the Shakshuka, not knowing what to expect, but nearly finished everything (I say nearly because the portions were generous and the bread was filling me up). My sister got the Green Goddess Chicken, which I was able to sample, and was good, but it got tiring after more bites. Also had to try the Crack Fries which I found the most memorable.
