Another great beer dinner! We've attended the past couple of years and have highly recommended it to family & friends. The main host of this event is Reuben and he ALWAYS does a spectacular job. He's absolutely awesome. I wasn't a beer drinker but since we've been going to these quarterly beer dinners, we've learned a lot about different types of beers and pairing that I now enjoy and have a greater appreciation of them. First of all, we decided to have family dinner at the Carlsbad Location. A Front desk person name Emily put in our name and asked for a phone number to be put in the waitlist which she said it will about 15-20mins. 30+ minutes pass, as we sat just beside her by the entrance and called everyone in the waitlist, our names haven't been called so I got up and asked her how long do we still have to wait coz it has been a while and she responded, your name must have gotten deleted! Well, How does that work when let's say it even if it got deleted, atleast she should have the courtesy to check on her customers esp when she had called everyone and there's only 1 family that's still waiting. We felt discriminated and asked for the manager and instead of Emily apologizing she responded in an irritated way, well, I quickly seated you! It ruined the whole experience for us because the welcome team should be welcoming but instead very snobbish. We wanted to walked away the minute we got a table and we wished we really did. We were even scared to touch our food because it looked old and was just reheated but at time it was already 8:56pm and most of the restaurants are closed and we were starving. My husband didn't even eat his food because was weirded out with look of the food. Emily, front desk, ruined the night for us and I don't know if she was tired or what but her job is to greet and make everyone welcome and excited for their dinner or meal but instead it was the opposite. I dont even know if the manager even cared when we complained about her or if he even talked to her. We just felt wronged tonight and that's too bad. My wife and I used to eat at BJ's in the Bay Area - but we realized (at least for that location) that the focus was on quantity, not the quality, of the meal. So we migrated away. Fast forward 12+ years - my wife and some of her friends went to BJ's for the lunch special - and she came back to convince me to give it a shot. I agreed, and off we went. We arrived at 1:30pm - with a wait time for a table of 30 minutes. Ok, this means the lunch special is popular - but 30 minute wait? No. So we hit up the bar, and had a seat at the counter immediately. So far, smart move, right? Nope. The poor woman behind the bar (through no fault of her own) was manning the counter AND all the tables in the bar - way overloaded. That aside, we placed our order - a burger w/fries for me, and a veggie pizza for my wife (this, btw, should be a crime....but I digress). And it's a Pepsi joint (yes!!) so I ordered a Diet Pepsi. WAY too long after we placed our order, the meals came. The burger came with all the fixings, and while a bit big for lunch, was quite good. The lunch also includes a Pizookie (whatever they want to call it, it's a frigging cookie, served warm with ice cream). When we ordered this post-meal, the wait time was another 20+ minutes. Again, when it arrived, it was quite good. So this was tough - a good burger for about what you'd pay for a Big Mac meal - and NOT fast food. But almost two hours for a lunch was a bit painful. When my husband got his dr pepper looked boring compared to my daughter's blue raspberry candy and my Dubai chocolate martini, she brought him cherries to add so he didn't feel left out. The food and drinks took some time to get to the table but everything came hot, so it was the back of house that was taking some time, not her. Dubai chocolate martini was great, not too sweet. I've been trying out happy hours lately and this was the latest. Upon arrival we walked into the very crowded host area, partially due to a Padres game being shown. We were told there was a 45 minute wait even though we asked about happy hour which is only in the bar. We ended up just walking into the bar as a table was leaving otherwise there were no seats available. You don't need a reservation in that area. Once seated we were given a regular menu. All of the other tables had happy hour display cards on the table except ours so we had to flag down a server to grab that for us. They were pretty busy so two servers divided their time between us. One of our servers was chatty and pleasant and helped us with our decisions, the other checked in with us regularly but was very busy. We ordered 2 personal pizzas, pot stickers, a margarita and a beer. The pot stickers, tasted good dipped in the sauce. The pizzas, were crispy, cheesy and meaty. The Margarita a little sweet but I wasn't surprised by that. When I had initially looked at the menu on the website, I realized at some point I had signed up for the rewards program. I had a reward for a free pizookie so I redeemed that. We ordered the ice cream to eat there and took the pizookie to go. The cookie stayed warm until I got home and couldn't resist tasting it. It was perfectly crispy and gooey at the same time. I enjoyed it the next day too. This is my 3rd time ever to a BJ's, one in the Bay Area, one in La Jolla and this one. I had a hard time rating this as I wanted to give it more stars because our waitress Niki is what held it together for us . Upon seating us down the 1st thing I notice is the disgusting seating area in the booth . We didn't come that much later than opening so something tells me the seats are just that dirty. I am huge on cleanliness and the tables , floors even the waitress table where the tablet is , wow just gross . I almost wanted to walk out but it was an anniversary lunch and my spouse wanted a pazookie so I stayed . The food was not bad to be honest , and I'm a horrible elite because we were so busy in conversation that I didn't even take a picture of the food , and isn't that the whole point lol. This visit was not a planned one. We decided to come here to try to have a hot meal while we were in the area. We have tried the Mission Valley and North County Fair Locations, and hoped that this one was good. When we entered, there was a wait. The hostess took our cell phone number, name, and party size (2). It was a 30min wait to be seated. We also were never texted, but had to go up to the front twice to ask our order in the wait line. They TOTALLY need a Yelp Waitlist or something on Wednesday Nights. We were seated and our server had not come for about 10 mins. We thought that this was odd. Finally, a server asked if we had a server and we said no. He was happy to be our server and we were happy to have him. He did an excellent job taking care of our dining questions, food allergies, and any requests that we had. His name on the ticket was Patrick I but he introduced himself as Isai/Esai. We ordered: The Ribeye medium rare with large baked potato, and a starter house salad, The Enlightened Mediterranean Chicken Bowl with no onions. Also a strawberry lemonade and a water for our drinks. Everything was delicious and came out within 12-15mins. My meal had a small Pizookie (Skillet baked cookie with scoop of ice cream) Sundae come with it. I chose the Salted Caramel one with Caramel drizzle, pretzel pieces baked into the cookie, and they added mini chocolate chips, which was delicious. I wanted the Chocolate Chunk one with fudge drizzled but we were told that they don't do that. So, this dessert choice with the chocolate chips added was delicious too! It was very disappointing because we waited over 30 minutes for service once we were seated, and only when we stopped a waitress serving another customer. It wasn't too busy so the bar patrons were all friendly and gave me suggestions . Dom also introduced me to staff who was being trained by the GM ! I had the bottomless soup and salad . They were nice enough to do it without arugula . The clam chowder was hot and comforting . I got the off menu side of ahi bites for $6.99 as the patron next to me suggested it . You can't go wrong with BJ's...everything is delicious! I'm not the only one who thinks so...the proof is in the packed brewhouse when I'm there and not there basically. It all started with their signature deep dish pizzas that made them famous then their Pizookie deserts that made them famous then their expansive menu... do I need to say more. I was hooked! This location does have its hands full but the staff handle it really well. They're still super friendly despite the busyness and able to stay on point in terms of service. We took two bites of our Wagyu burgers before realizing they were almost completely raw inside. When we brought our concerns to management, Josh was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional about the situation. Instead of taking our concerns seriously, he made an already bad experience even worse. After eating the burger, I became extremely sick with what seemed like food poisoning. I obviously can't say for sure what caused it, but considering how undercooked the burger was, it was extremely concerning. The way Josh handled the situation was honestly unacceptable, especially when we were bringing up a legitimate food safety concern. I really hope upper management looks into both how the food was prepared and how Josh handles customer complaints. read more

My husband and I came in Friday around 6pm and were able to find seating pretty quickly in the bar (which is open seating) we had Patrick as our server tonight which was an absolute pleasure. He went above and beyond. My husband really wanted the pork chop meal deal (which they had run out of) but Patrick took it upon himself to rush to the back to double check and low and behold they had one more left! We were thrilled. I got the bbq chicken pizza which was good but was sad to see they don't have the buffalo chicken pizza anymore. We ordered a pizookie and a root beer float, but after waiting even longer, we had to track down the manager because nothing had come out. When my drink finally arrived, it wasn't even a root beer float, just a regular soda. We had to involve the manager again to get the correct drink and our dessert. By the time we finally received everything, we'd been there for an hour and a half. And then we were still given a bill. Oh no!! what happened to my favorite restaurant? I've been going to BJ's for years. It's been my go-to spot for family dinners and happy hours with friends. Now I'm honestly wondering what happened to one of my favorite places. I ordered the prime rib, and it was extremely salty and very fatty. The seasoning appears quite heavy, which is why it tastes salty. The amount of fat appears higher than what I expect. The meat-to-fat ratio doesn't look very favorable. Before I could even take a second bite, I asked if I could get another one. My server insisted that this is how prime rib is supposed to look and that there was nothing wrong with it. They know what they did. I can only speculate why we were sat way in the back after waiting a really long time. The food I ordered was all of a sudden not available. They came back to the table twice and something else we ordered was not available. There were no utensils once the food showed up. Wooden spoons came with the soup, and when I asked for regular spoons, since we were dining in, the spoons looked like they were licked "clean." The replacement food I ordered was rushed and tasted like they got it out of the trash can. Oh yeah, and the food I ordered that they didn't have was never removed from my tab, so I had to walk across the restaurant to handle my tab. I get that it can be busy but geez. This place seems to have a lot of issues, I ordered a pazookie the other night and they sent it without ice cream, just a cookie so i called the store because it was $24 to DoorDash one pazookie or else I would've just ordered another one... the manager was understanding and gave me a gift card for the inconvenience which is what I used to pay for this order Apparently when you order through the bj's website they still use DoorDash drivers so the doordasher first called me saying that the store told her my order was already picked up and they sent it out.. my doordasher stayed at the location to make sure that was true.. nothing showed up to my home.. she then texted me this, they ended up remaking the order apparently and now she's waiting on it again. A total of about 45 minutes the doordasher had to wait at this location for them to make my food a second time supposedly.. all while this is going on I'm still getting updates from bj's saying my food is almost here when really they haven't even finished making it yet. It's a shame, BJ's has really gone downhill definitely not the same as it used to be Update*** it is now 5:55pm, still no food but I just got a text from bj's saying that my food will now be here at 6:22pm.. about 2 hours from when I initially ordered I'll update once it gets here, if it's cold they will be getting a phone call and/or I will be contacting corporate. Update* my order made it here at 6:40pm and AGAIN they forgot the pazookie!!! You can't make this shit up. I contacted corporate. Joshua the manager said he can't refund me because it's a gift card.. he then said "I can't send you another gift card because we've already screwed it up 3 times" lmaoo because they are so incapable of fulfilling an order correctly and doing their one job. BJ's used to be "the spot" I remember practically being at a BJ's nearly every weekend... this was my first time at this location and my first time back to BJ's in years. While I had so many fond memories I was not prepared for how mediocre the food truly is. Everything tasted like frozen food warmed up. We came on a Sunday around 7 and waited 25 minutes to be seated. Once seated our service was slow. We waited a long time for our food and for our waitress to return to provide additional sauces etc. We got a variety of items but I can't believe the prices! The girl at the hostess counter didn't smile at all. She obviously didn't want to be there. But she did her due diligence. In fact, observing the staff, no one seemed to be happy. Except our waiter, Jacob, who should get 5 stars, to the Manager who came over to talk to us, they were amazing and welcoming. Unfortunately, the worst part was the food. I had a rib eye steak which was probably the worst I've ever had. The cut was low quality at its best. The roasted asparagus was simply dreadful. I don't mind thin asparagus, but this was a dried out vile weed that was served to us. Several of us got it. It was like someone forgot about it in the oven, realized it was ruined, but said, oh well. I can't imagine that someone released this to customers as being ok. What the hell! Service still not all that great, food can be hit or miss. Avocado eggrolls are a little bland but the sauce brings it together. Brussel sprouts are more soft than crispy. Fried pickle fries were surprisingly delicious. Wedge salad wasn't terrible, I was expecting it to be a little sour since the lettuce was spotty and brown. The server said they only cook the steak to medium or more so I wasn't able to get my medium rare but they cooked it to a true medium. Baked potato could use some presalting before baking. Macadamia nut pizookie was fantastic. Was a little turned off when we were walking in and a server with long dark hair in a braid was hanging out by the host stand just looked at us and turned around to walk away... even if she wasn't able to help us she could have at least told us that the host will be with us shortly or something. There are lots of dining areas, a big bar area, TV's, good service, and their famous Pizookies. Really disappointed with our experience. We were told they were out of avocado rolls, which was especially disappointing because I had been craving them so much during my pregnancy. On top of that, after our food was brought out, our server never came back to check on us or see if we needed anything. The lack of service really made the experience worse. We arrived and waited about 15 mins to be seated, it was packed and the server took our order. we waited almost an hour to get 1 large pizza ( un cut cold in middle ) and 1 chicken parm and spaghetti dinner.the pasta was ice cold. chicken over cooked and chewy. we were starving at this point so made due. but for $85 not including tip we would of liked at least hot food. BJ's is usually good from the other restaurants ive been to but this one I would stay clear of. Came here on a Tuesday at 4pm. It was dead empty but we were looked at by an older lady asking how many? We told her 2 and she told us to wait on the side. About 6 more parties came and no one was seated, telling us they are waiting for the dinner wait staff to set up. The older lady rudely told an older gentleman he should have made a reservation (it was empty) and another man accidentally put the wrong party number and instead of trying to work with him she told him it's wrong and to make a new ticket. After 25 minutes of waiting and seeing that they sat the party that came before us first, we left. She clearly did not write down our information and put us on the list. Worst location or service ever. Does not live up to BJs in other states. We've come to this location a handful of times and we've put up with the bad service but today we couldn't even get seated.
