It maybe a good thing that Black Bear Diner is kinda far from my house. Eating here is rough on diets. The food is delicious and there's usually too much to eat in one sitting. The smoked brisket has a beautiful smoke ring on it. It's fall-apart delicious. What's really great about this dish is being available all day. It's actually on the "Breakfast for Dinner" part of the menu. My kid company asked for "Green Eggs and Ham" as inspired by the book by Dr. SEUSS. The manager Mari called the cops on us saying we were disrespectful when they burnt my food twice. Horrible service they put my plate in the microwave when I sent it back burnt. This was my first time to this location and I have to say that it was a nice dining experience. Even though we only came for dessert, I was impressed. All the staff was very friendly, Covid responsible and the restaurant was at a nice cool temperature that I appreciated at the end of a warm day. I am just not a fan Madera gave us a steak from the day before years ago admitted to it and refused to make us another one said they had to get rid of yesterday's first then asked if we wanted a different menu item.. I didn't go back after that so yesterday I go eat at the Fresno one. They bring me raw sausage. I let the server know she says nothing and takes it comes back with the same sausage 2 minutes later. So again today I woke up wanting to try Black Bear Diner again because Golden Harbor Buffet has their tables so close to each other with is a turn off. Today staff members are no slouchers they hustle and making sure everyone is taking care of. I had the following for today's late lunch. Biscuit and gravy 3/5 the biscuit seeme ok just that the gravy is lacking in flavor. The Volcano 3 pancakes, scrambled eggs, good sausage, think cut bacon 4/5 this alone will make you big guys full and satisfied. Turkey Club with Avocado with Sourdough Fries 3/5 it's ok I really enjoy the Turkey Club at Goldfields much better. Service 4/5 these crew members today were hustling and bussing tables right away when customers done eating. I had my drink refilled 3 times without asking good job today. Also the waiter and his team members check up on me asking how was everything. Today I got better service and my food came out quick but something about their food miss the mark. The food was just ok not mind blowing or hugh on flavor dancing on my taste buds. If Goldfields cafe wasn't too far I'll be going there maybe 2 times a week. read more

Definitely not one of my best choices when I decided to come here. We went on a Friday night for dinner and should've caught a clue of the quality as the restaurant was pretty darn empty. The side salad was good, I ordered country fried steak and mashed potatoes and they put way too much gravy over the top. You can't even taste your food as it's just too much gravy. read more

I've visited Black Bear Diner's (BBD) up and down the Sate but I am sorry to say this was the worst experience I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, versus other chain eateries this location as a cut above but, compared to BBD standards this location fell short. The employees were kind and courteous. The host nice & seated us promptly, the server was patient, I recieved a call from my doctor which delayed our ordering, and got our orders correct. Where things fell short was in the food itself. Unfortunately, things could easily have been remedied. We arrived for a late lunch/early dinner. I had a dinner salad before my meal. It was so WET I could have poured the water off my plate. This made the salad soggy & diluted the dressing so badly it wouldn't stick to the lettuce. My main dish was the small portion Chicken Fried Steak. While flavorful, it was so over fried it was difficult to cut and bite into. TH\he potatoes & gravy were prepared nicely and had good flavor. The green beans were virtually inedible. It may as well have been green bean soup with bacon. The green beans were WAY over cooked, unseasoned, served in a bowl of hot water with a few bits of boiled bacon in the bowl. My wife had the small portion Tri-tip. The Tri-tip appeared to have been properly prepared and then "hot skilleted" to warm it for serving. This made the tri-tip dried out. Sadly, she had the same green beans. While we believe this to be an anomaly, if this had been a 1st experience with Black Bear Diners we like would not have gone to another. read more

We were recommended this diner by friends. And when we were in Fresno on business, we stopped by there. Spoiler, now we always go there for lunch if we are in Fresno or nearby. My daughter really likes the bears in the establishment. And the interior itself is very lovely. Benches and lamps bear in pictures and photos. When choosing where to eat, we tried to go to other places in the establishments of this network. Unfortunately, a more modern interior in other establishments of this network is not so comfortable. In some, we ate, and it was delicious; in some, we didn't even want to eat because the smell inside was bad. But the diner in Fresno sunk into our souls, and we returned there. We order burgers, coffee, and pies. Burgers are juicy and tasty. The banana and chocolate pies are amazing. Excellent service. There are burgers for kids, and my daughter chooses fruit instead of potatoes. She also likes decorating bears on a piece of paper they bring to children. This location has poor service the last time I came here they forgot about us even though half of the dining room was closed. The fish and chips were good just heavily breaded and had to take off a good amount of the breading to fully enjoy. Since we ordered the unlimited fish and chips it feels like we couldn't even get our next batch of fish for about 30-45 minutes after we finished our plates. Very inattentive to our table and more focused on their larger party that came in way after us. The dining room is a nice and niche decorated but the entire restaurant was too warm for comfort to the point even the employees were complaining about it being too hot. Once we made a comment about it our server was so grateful that she could then report it to a manager and they'll finally change the temperature. read more

Either way they had some people that called in and we asked if we could sit at the counter since we had just landed at the Fresno airport from an early flight and we were starving, originally she had mentioned she had closed it off and we totally understood. Well, it is better than Denny's but don't be fooled. Although we were greeted at least 3 times, our waiter was really late taking our actual food order. They were crowded but don't tell us you're coming right back when you really are not. My husband got the standard Grizzly and really liked it. I got California eggs Benedict and it wasn't good. The avocado was hard as a rock and I didn't like the sauce. The kicker was when the staff that picked up our plates, they asked my husband if he was going to lick it and then asked me if I needed a box when clearly my plate was empty. That was fine but really weird. I will say the overall price was pretty good given the increase of cost in food. And the service solid given the crowd. I'd go back for the standard food. Don't go too crazy being adventurous. It is a single, small step up from Denny's. Also, this establishment chain has been known to cater to a specific group. After the first bite both of said "Wow. This is good!" Several years ago we were traveling to Los Angeles and stopped to have dinner with our nephew in Delano. Our meal was great. Today the breakfast we ordered was equally tasty, plentiful, and good quality. The bacon was as promised. It was well-prepared, thick and lots of it. I think the other outstanding feature of our meal was a biscuit that was big, tasty, and fulfilling. You are in for a special treat and will need extra butter and jam. I was craving breakfast for dinner, and stumble upon this place I've never had before. Husband and I decided to give it a go. Upon arrival and walking inside I will have to say this place is so cute. It's rustic, cabin like, and I feel like I'm somewhere else! They have merchandise sold such as Pj sets, baby clothes, sweaters, etc on the side and it's great! FOOD: I ordered a corn beef hash, with hash brown on the side and Sunnyside up egg. I wasn't too crazy over the corn beef hash but I liked everything else. My husband ordered a MASSIVE burger , it's like an off the menu (secret) order that if you ask the staff they can help you. But when I say it's massive it really is!
