I'm at the age where I don't want a "fusion" version of breakfast; I just want it done right. Black Bear Diner delivered exactly what I was looking for. Country Fried Steak: Massive. It's got that heavy, craggy breading that stays crunchy even under the gravy. The meat was tender, no knife-fighting with your food here. Mashed Potatoes: Real deal. Skin-on, buttery, and they actually taste like potatoes, not a powder mix. The Biscuit: This thing is a unit. It's dense and warm, perfect for mopping up the extra peppery white gravy. The Vibe: What really sold me was the experience. The service was great, our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It wasn't crowded when I went, and the atmosphere was nice and quiet. It's the perfect spot if you want to actually hear your own thoughts (or your conversation) while you eat. Pro Tip: Come hungry. The portions are huge, but the calm environment makes it easy to take your time and enjoy it.

Such an amazing family friendly restaurant! We love bringing the family here. Not only for the fun themes and great service, but the portion sizes are greatly appreciated. Especially with a bunch of hungry teenagers! And if you've never tried the fresh OJ, you are definitely missing out!

Extensive menu! Sometimes I get breakfast for lunch or dinner. One of my favorite items is the chicken tenders with fries. Restaurant is always clean and well maintained. Service is spot on. Everyone is always friendly, attentive and accommodating.

We were quickly seated & ordered mimosas. I also ordered The Bear's Choice; Waffle, eggs & bacon plate. Loved the waffles. My friend ordered a Pot Roast Melt Sandwich & thought it was really good. Total came up to around $56 dollars. Overall Food & Service was good.

Good food and amazing customer service! I always get the chorizo breakfast burrito and sub it out for sausage.

Food was great. The angus burger felt a tad on the small side. I might be imagining things. It was delicious though. The kids loved their meals. Fast service even though they were very busy. Chill vibes.

This is such a cute place! Decorated like a cozy cabin there are bears everywhere. A dessert case up front lets you see the sweet treats available for taking home and there is seating if the restaurant is busy enough to have a waiting period. We were seated right away and got our drinks immediately, since we were waiting for a third person we held off on ordering and the waitress came right back when our party member appeared. We got chicken fried steak, an omelette and bread pudding French toast and everyone enjoyed the meal! We'll be back for sure. One of our favorite "comfort food" places.

11/27/25 Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Getting lunch here! Arrived! No wait and Gali greeted and was very kind. 2, turkey & 1 ham dinner ordered & paid for. Gali said it would be ready in 15 minutes. It was very busy inside. We waited in the car for it be ready. 15 minutes flew by! Go to get it and the worker was nice and said it was almost ready & it was ready a few minutes later. The worker brought order with good day wishes! Appreciated!! That was WAY too simple! Thanksgiving lunch time! Everything was Great! Unfortunately, they only gave 1 cornbread muffin. We're supposed to have 3. The only problem. I shared the cornbread and it was GREAT!! Mother said hers was really Great minus the cornbread muffin, but I did share my cornbread muffin and she loved it! Gam literally said hers was Really Great! GREAT service & GREAT Thanksgiving lunch! Pie included for dinner looks DELICIOUS! Dinner!! Absolutely DELICIOUS pie! Perfect after thr GREAT lunch!! Highly recommended!

The environment is always bubbly and loud at this establishment, so if you're looking for a quiet space- do not come here. If you love great conversation, a nice space after church, and great food then this is your go to spot. Take into account that it gets very busy during breakfast. I went with the volcano breakfast and it was absolutely delicious, pancakes were soft, and eggs were cooked perfectly. I gave it a 4/5 because there was a long hair in my pancake, but the waitress brought me over a $5 coupon for next time. :)

Stopped in for Veterans Day cuisine. Amayah was the perfect hostess. Breakfast, lunch & dinner menu choices were available for dine in of take out. I appreciate Black Bear Diner for recognizing & serving the veteran community. Juke box in the waiting area provided nostalgic music for good time entertainment.

Love it here! Portions are huge. Everything we ordered was delicious. The server was a great help too! It was our first time there and she gave us time to really explore the menu and narrow down what it was that we wanted to order. By far, Black Bear Diner is our favorite diner to go to!

My introduction to Black Bear Diner was in Las Vegas about 7 years ago. It was one of the best breakfast spots I've ever been to & this Fresno location is the same. We've been in Fresno for 6 days & today is our third breakfast here. First, the have one of the best unsweetened teas in America & these sweet crème pancakes are second to none. Bacon is crispy, not greasy, & never burnt. Really, the only downside is their hash browns are not good. They need to kidnap a hash town cook from Waffle House. Service is quick but unobtrusive & their desserts rival those of Perkins or Village Inn. Not the cheapest place in down but you get an excellent meal for your money. 4-stars.

The biscuit and gravy are definitely home made. The biscuits weren't perfect they were odd shaped like a dome and the gravy was smooth and creamy not too thick or clumpy. Everyone was so nice, Jessica…read moreespecially was super attentive, our coffees were always full, our food came out at a decent time and it was still nice and hot and she was so friendly throughout our time here, so Jessica if you ever see this, Thank you so much, we appreciate you! We happened to be in the area today with a failed trip to Lithia Ford for a car repair. We both were hungry and needed to choose between breakfast or Mexican food, we flipped a coin and the coin chose breakfast. I'm glad it did, cause right when we were heading towards another breakfast spot, we made the quick decision to just choose what was nearby. It's a restaurant name we've heard of, but haven't been, so we opted to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! Because the food was amazing and the service just as much! Parking lot was full but not too crazy, that luckily came after we were seated. Inside was nicely themed to Louisiana Bayou with gators and cute signs with quotes and a big tree in the seating area with sound effects of bugs from the swamp. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed with a nice greeting from one of the busy waitresses who let us know we would be seated in a moment. Our server Jessica came up with a smile and a warm welcome and had us follow her to our booth. We both started off with coffee and browsed the menu, this menu had some usual fair but definitely stayed in the theme of the restaurant with Louisiana cuisine, like andouille sausage as a breakfast meat choice. I went with their "Hucks Platter" which is 3 eggs anyway you want, choice of potatoes or hashbrowns and you can choose between a couple varieties of meats, steak, chicken fried steak, sausage, bacon and andouille. It also comes with a choice of side, being toast, homemade biscuit or their huckleberry bread? I played it safe and went with the white toast. I also went with the bacon cause I love me some bacon! It was hickory smoked and my goodness it was cooked to perfection! My whole meal was cooked perfectly! I truly appreciate the cooking staff for doing such an amazing job during a busy morning. Jess chose the Banana Foster French Toast and my goodness! It looked just as good if not better than the picture. It was loaded, thick and comes with a side of eggs and your choice of meat. She loved the French toast, she's never had Bananas Foster before but she said it was decadent, sweet and had a nice caramelized flavor. Would recommend and also get it again! We paid, "with tip" around $57, which isn't bad for most breakfast spots now a days. Especially when you're getting this kind of food quality and service. We never went without a fresh hot cup of coffee and a nice check in from Jess or one of the other servers to pick up a plate or ask us how we're doing. I do apologize for no pictures, when the food came out, it looked so good we just dug right in! We both would absolutely come back and eat here again if we're in the area or back in Fresno looking for a breakfast spot. If you're in and or from here, you should definitely make this your go-to breakfast spot!

Very late review, 2 months late…read more I went with my niece and a couple friends one Saturday morning. No reservation so we waited a good amount of time but it wasn't so long that it was unbearable. Very cute waiting area. I didn't expect it to look as... modern? as it did? I'm not sure what I expected it to look like but it was nice inside. Staff was suuuper friendly. Every single one we spoke to. Considering how busy they were (constant flow of traffic/customers)... I appreciate that they can still smile and make you feel welcomed. I ordered the OG French Toast, my niece got the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich on a Croissant. I can't remember what my friends ordered. Portions are very good. We could have easily split a plate (my niece and I) and be okay. Classic American breakfast. Everything was good/satisfying. We all enjoyed our meals. I also got their Brown Butter Iced Coffee-- saw one of the guys that worked there drinking one behind the counter and asked what it was, lol. I can't say it was the best coffee drink I've ever had but it was still pretty good. Not strong though. Though I've written a raving review, when it comes down to the food, it's not the best breakfast I've had around Fresno. It would not be a first choice for me personally but I also wouldn't mind coming back if my friends wanted to. Plus, there's so much more to try on their menu so it's not fair to judge overall food off one visit. For now, they are a solid 4.
