Was looking for a home style restaurant for some comfort food and decided on Black Bear Diner in Rancho Cucamonga. My wife and I were immediately seated and offered drinks. The menu is extensive, however more expensive than expected for this type of diner. We decided to split a meal as the portions are advertised as "larger than normal". After ordering, we were told our dinner would need to be modified as they were out of the Ciabatta bread. The server offered other options which we agreed. After the food was presented, we were very disappointed. The substituted bread (sour dough) was absolutely "not" what was expected. The tri-tip dip was small, bread was very thin, meat portion equal to a kids meal, and the dip could not be enjoyed. I caution everyone to ask prior to ordering your favorite meal, as they might be out of the main ingredient. I will not return nor recommend this diner to family, friends, or colleagues. read more

Service was unacceptable and the food was underwhelming. We were there on a very slow afternoon (3:30pm) on a Saturday. Besides us there was only one other table. We could see our food sitting on the counter while our server and the manager/host stood in front of it having a conversation. The cook also rang the bell to alert them that the food was ready to be served. Well apparently those 2 don't put customer service first because they stepped to a side prep area to continue their conversation. I then asked the busser to please alert them that our food was ready, which he kindly did. Still no immediate action, not until they had finished their conversation did they finally get our food. I ordered a side salad and was the last to get my food. This salad had a weird taste as did the dressing. Not sure if it had been sitting in the fridge for a while and picked up other odors, but I couldn't eat it. My husband's ice tea had 2 old used looking lemon pieces in it which he did not drink. It's take time to get a seat although there are virtually no customers in the dinning area. After have a seat we didn't get our drink intil we got our salad. I have to stop the staff for asking again to remind the water and drink. The salad was old and not fresh at all. The entrees was straight from a can or bag.
