Bearlishous! Ok y'all, forget that In-n-Out thing. Black Bear is a California diner worth going to. We have been to several and every one has served fantastic food with a smile. Breakfast all day plus burgers and more including healthy options. For this visit we each chose the Hobo Joe omelet. Huge!!! Filling! Delicious! Y'all, the "biscuit" is more like a loaf of bread! But with that biscuit fluff. The gravy is so good. The interior is like walking into a huge mountain cabin with adorable black bear pics and accents. Great food. Great music. Great service. What's not to love! 30 years of growth says it all. We're Black Bear restaurant fans! Grrrrr!

I ordered the NY steak with eggs and a side of fresh fruit, and everything was spot on. The steak was cooked exactly as requested--juicy and flavorful--and the scrambled eggs were light and perfectly done. The fresh fruit was a refreshing and healthy addition that balanced the meal nicely. Bread was extra portion. I will remove to tell them one slice is enough in order to prevent waste. As someone focused on eating high-protein, cleaner meals, being able to swap traditional sides for eggs and fruit makes a big difference. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff were not that friendly throughout my visit. It might be because of it's a truck stop. Usually, service standards are very low for truckers.

This place is attached to a truck stop gas station. But the food is very well made and big portions. The servers are very welcoming and attentive. It has a very old time cabin feel. The food is so good and I recommend just to try it out.

    Meatloaf. Good. Not great.

I've been twice. First time was awesome. Second not so much. Food was good. But service is key for me. I don't have a long enough lunch for you to forget an item I've asked for twice. Had there been more than 5 other people in the place I'd have understood. I don't think I'll go anymore. Pity. It's fairly close to my job.

Two out of three ain't bad. Food is outstanding and the prices are spot on. The ambiance is perfect. It's in the Petro truck stop. I've eaten at a few Black Bears over the years. I was excited that they opened here. With that. The service. It sucked. My waitress was terrible. She just had no sense of customer service. Come on. Don't let this be the norm here. Get yourself together and have the waitstaff focus on thinking if the customer has everything. I had to ask for a straw. Another refill. Hell I didn't even get a hostess. She just pointed at a table and called it good. Don't let your service ruin such a perfect union.

This is the best Black Bear Diner location there is. They have kept most of the old wait staff from Iron Skillet but with the Black Bear Diner decor and, of course, the taste and value you've come to expect from any Black Bear Diner. Make no mistake, this is peak Truck Stop Diner. Always a good mix of friendly and busy here. Good portions that hit the spot whether or you're headed into or out of San Antonio. I can usually get a meal or two out of one plate of food. The biscuits and gravy is gargantuan, and the sweet tea refreshes like nothing else on I-10.

This was our first time ordering dinner at this restaurant. We asked the waitress to give us a few minutes because we had never ordered dinner from Black Bear diner. We decided what we wanted, but we couldn't find our waitress. She disappeared for a while. She reappeared placed our order and for some odd reason my plate came out first and then we had to wait about 10 minutesfrom My Husband's to come out. She told us that I was given somebody else's plate of food that should not have been given to me . Seeing that there was nobody else in the restaurant but three other tables and they were already served we knew that that was a lie. My plate came with a wilted lettuce on it that was dark and slimy. It was so disgusting. The salad that came out would've been OK except the little cherry tomatoes were over ripe and very squishy. They were not fresh and we got two micro, tiny cherry tomatoes per salad, must've been a shortage on cherry tomatoes that day. I had the open turkey sandwich. The turkey meat was basically a turkey lunchmeat that was so dry and had no flavor. I just took a few bites and ended up taking the whole meal home to give to my dogs. Our waitress kept disappearing and didn't ask us for any refills on our drinks or how we were doing. She was a young girl with braces and had some kind of acne issue on her face. I failed to get her name unfortunately. I would like to also mention that the short older woman that was working the front register had six people ( I counted ) waiting to order takeout food or to cash out so they could leave the restaurant. There was nobody there to help her , never saw a manager insight either . I have eaten at many Black Bear diner restaurants this one I would not recommend until they get the quality of food under control and get better wait staff

Wonderful, delicious food that I would share with anyone visiting San Antonio. I had a bacon blue cheese burger that was hefty and very good! Loaded with thick-cut bacon, mushrooms and crispy, homemade onions merged with a horseradish aioli I barely finished this monster meal. Along with it was fresh cut french fries that served as the perfect side companion.

We stopped in the Beaumont location on our travels from SanAntonio to Florida. This was our first experience at a Black Bear Diner and we loved it! It was welcoming, provides huge portions and the food is delicious. The friendly staff makes you feel like family! Thanks Shati for taking great care of us the morning!

It was popping when we got there, so we had about a 25 minute wait. It took them a little while to take our order, but once they did, the food was made and delivered in a timely manner. I, of course, got the cinnamon roll pancakes short stack, and they were absolutely divine. No need for butter or syrup, they were perfectly delicious as is, cinnamon swirl included?!? and icing glaze as well. Another favorite was the chile relleno omelette - the poblano pepper on top added some smokiness along with the steak, and the sour cream and cheese cooled it down. Bacon and canadian bacon on point. My husband and I had been trying to eat at Bobby's Southern Kitchen for at least 2-3 years. Every time we'd stopped before, the wait was around 2 1/2 hours, and since we were always passing through on our way home to Houston, we never had enough time to stay. This time, we planned our morning around finally getting to eat here. We had spent the weekend in San Antonio and were driving to Dallas before heading home, so we made a point of arriving shortly after opening (a little after 8:00 a.m.). There was no wait, we were seated immediately, and our waitress was wonderful. I wish I could remember her name because she was friendly, attentive, and did everything she could. Our food came out quickly, probably within 15 minutes, but that's where things went downhill. The food wasn't hot. Mine was warm enough to eat, but my husband's breakfast was actually cold. His hash browns were cold, his sausage patties were cold, and since he's someone who really enjoys his food served hot, it immediately ruined the meal for him. We let our waitress know, and she came back to take only the hash browns from his plate. That surprised us because most restaurants would prepare a fresh order rather than reheating part of the original meal. When the hash browns came back, they still weren't hot enough, so unfortunately they didn't solve the problem. For me, the food itself actually had good flavor. I ordered the sausage biscuit with soft scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and a side of grits. The biscuit was good, the eggs were cooked just the way I like them, and the grits were honestly one of the best parts of the meal. They were creamy, had a great consistency, and were well-seasoned with really good flavor. If everything had been served hotter, I honestly think I would have loved my breakfast. My husband ordered a simple breakfast with eggs over medium, toast, sausage patties, and hash browns. I don't necessarily think the food itself was bad I think serving it cold completely changed his experience. What makes this especially disappointing is that we arrived shortly after opening, so we expected everything to be fresh and piping hot. I honestly don't know what happened that morning, but after waiting years to finally try Bobby's, it just didn't live up to the anticipation. The service was excellent, the food had good flavor, and I truly wanted to love this place. I just can't overlook being served a breakfast that wasn't hot, especially first thing in the morning. I hope this was just an off day because I'd like to believe our experience wasn't the norm.

Imagine a towering, layer-stacked masterpiece built around a massive fluffy scratch-made biscuit, crispy golden hash browns, a beautifully breaded and fried chicken fried steak, and two perfectly cooked over easy eggs. Then, because apparently that wasn't enough, the whole thing is drenched in rich, creamy country sausage gravy and finished with a generous blanket of shredded cheddar cheese. Every bite hits a different note, the buttery, tender biscuit, the crunch of the hash browns, the savory crust on the chicken fried steak, the richness of the sausage gravy, and that salty, melty cheddar bringing everything together. It's indulgent, unapologetically Southern, and exactly the kind of breakfast that makes you want to take a nap afterward. And the service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. Just come hungry... The Morning Wrecker does not play around.
