This place is criminally overpriced for the quality and quantity of food delivered. My wife and I stopped here for an early dinner this past weekend, and between an appetizer, two entrees, and tip, we were out $75. We started with the Assortimento - the fried olives were interesting, and the mozzarella and prosciutto were excellent. However, the artichokes, beans, peppers (only red on our plate) and asparagus felt like they had come fresh from a can. I had the Penne Vodka. The pasta was well cooked, but I can get better vodka sauces in the supermarket. Like many aspects of our experience at Pizzico, this dish was very one dimensional. My wife had the Pasta di Zucca. Her plate came with 6 raviolis, and while the pumpkin filling and accompanying cream sauce were decent, the plate wasn't worth $19. Service was very slow, especially when there were less than 3 tables for tonight's "early dinner" crowd. Specials hadn't been "figured out" (per our waiter) for the evening. I would have been happy with the experience, had the prices been more inline with the quality of the food. If you're looking for Italian in Providence, head down to Federal Hill and try one of the thousands of restaurants down there. Or cross over into Massachusetts and hit up Olive Garden in Attleboro - it'll still beat this place, and wind up costing you less. read more

Pizzico is a solid Italian restaurant in the East side of Providence. You may not realize from its surroundings or location, but it's really a hidden gem. I've been here twice for dinner and not been disappointed either time, sampling the mushroom-filled ravioli as well as a pasta dish with scallops and prosciutto. Comparing Pizzico with other Italian places around Providence, the prices are very reasonable, the parking is easier, and the quality is just as good. The service may be lacking when comparing it with more high-end establishments but it's still good. The environment is also very nice for a date night or intimate gathering with friends or family. I believe they also have a back room for private events. I think the portion size is perfect here. It's not so much that I take 3/4 of my meal home, but it's enough to fill me up and give my fiancee the last few bites of my meal. I don't leave feeling like I can't move, which to me is a plus. They also serve bread with olive oil which is a sweet spot for me, and helps fill you up if your appetite is a lot bigger than mine! Additionally if you're looking to save a few bucks, Pizzico sells gift certificates on Restaurant.com which allows you to purchase $25 gift certificates for $1 to $3 when they run sales (which is VERY often). read more

We ordered the antipasto starter. This is how restaurants make a name for themselves. This thing was gorgeous: a big platter covered in slices of cheese, prosciutto, gargantuan olives, fresh mozzarella in an amazing balsamic reduction, tomatoes, crispy toast, and three different tapenades. Other restaurants take note: for the price, this was PERFECT. In fact the antipasto turned out to be enough food for both of us and so we weren't sure what we were going to do with the pizza that we had ordered. Owner is rude!! Treated us -4 of us- as second class citizens...when we asked for more Oysters and shrimp cocktail...besides the pizza we had...waiter told us we'd have to move to the bar. Owner comes to table and says we could not order any food at table, again told we'd have to move to the bar. Admittedly we went on the basis of the good reviews here & a LivingSocial deal. We went on a Tuesday to avoid crowds. I called ahead to ask if children were welcome and I was assured they were. After arriving we really liked the atmosphere and the friendliness of our waitress. After looking over the menu we realized there were no meals for our daughter so we ordered from the "sides" section - pasta (4.99) with sauce (5.99) and a milk (refills extra). After 20 minutes our waitress asked us if we would like bread while we waited. After another 5 minutes we received it. We had ordered a pizza as appetizer, my husband requesting tomato sauce in place of the vodka laced one. Our pizza arrived...no sauce at all but hot house tomato slices on top. After waiting 23 minutes for a pizza, we weren't going to send it back. We took the tomatoes off and while the taste was good, sauce would have helped with the dryness of it. An hour later our pasta dishes arrived. Both my husband and my pasta meals were underdone - there's a difference between al dente and needing floss to get hard and sticky pasta out of teeth - fortunately our daughter's pasta was perfect & she was able to eat. After sending our meals back to have the pasta cooked more (is that possible after putting it in sauce - microwave perhaps?) we waited another 20 minutes and received plates of pasta still so underdone it would not wrap around a fork. By this time (2 hours after entering the door) our daughter was tired and ready to leave. My husband could barely eat a couple of forkfuls. As I hadn't eaten since breakfast, I ate more, but undercooked, floury pasta sits like lead in the stomach so I was ready to leave soon as well. When I first entered Pizzico for the first time last night for a friends birthday I was taken by the intimate atmosphere. The dining area itself was small and dimley lit while still inviting. We had a large party but were all seated comfortably. To drink, I had their red Sangria, the glass was good sized however it was $10 so it should be. I enjoyed my drink while awaiting appetizers and dinner. The wait was not overly long for appetizers to arrive however the wait for the meal itself was exceeded an hour. When the food arrived some plates were warmer than others, they had probably sat out. Putting that aside the meal was very good. I had the Penne Vodka with shrimp and was only able to finish about half, so the portions were fair. The server we had was attentive making sure we did not need refills on our drinks or any additions to our orders. The prices at Pizzico are on the high end, so outside of a special occasion I would not be back too often.Wednesday night is ladies night, so my meal was half off, which makes things more resonable, so if you can take advantage of the special, do so! read more

We went to this restaurant for my husband's promotion. Everything is nice and perfect. The drinks were good. Calamari fritti was so yummy that we felt like it is not enough to eat. Pizzico is family friendly, typically has good, friendly service, good food and a pleasant atmosphere. My wife and I have eaten at Pizzico several times - sometimes with our two kids - sometimes as a couple, and have always had a nice time. The quality of the food has slipped a bit over the past year or so, but I'd still go to Pizzico over just about any restaurant on Federal Hill. Favorites are the lobster gnocci and pumpkin ravioli; kids love the mousse cake. read more

Always weary when a restaurant is on Sweet Deals but sometimes you find a gem.We came early tonight and found a nice spot at the bar. Had a wine and hubby got a perfectly made dirty martini with stuffed olives. Starters were the calamari and Prosciutto wrapped shrimp. Pet peeve: when there is an odd number of something (3 shrimp). Hubby wanted the halibut dish but the underwhelming bartender said they were substituting Cod in the dish instead- ha- obviously not a fair substitute. I got the pumpkin rav and he got the mushroom tortellini with grilled chicken and an order of Brussels sprouts. Sadly the Brussels were the star tonight. Everything was ok but for the price I felt the portions were small and the pastas were way over-sauced. Glad I had the sweet deal gift certificate or I would've felt much worse paying the prices they are charging. $31 for the tortellini add chicken and $25 for the rav- way too pricey for what we got. read more

I had bought a groupon awhile ago to this place and have been wanting to go. The last night before leaving to go to school my boyfriend and I decided to finally try Pizzico. I have to say that we both loved this place, it may not be the best restaurant in Providence, but we certainly had an all around wonderful experience! Our waiter was wonderful, timely and friendly, suggesting a few things here and there and remembering all of the specials by heart. It took a little while for my boyfriend's drink to come out, but besides that everything was lovely. The foccacia with olive oil was delicious, much more tastier than any roll. We ordered the eggplant appetizer which wasn't too heavy, but very flavorful and yummy. It had crispy eggplant with goat cheese sandwiched between the slices and baby greens and balsamic vinaigrette on top. I highly recommend it. For our meals, he ordered a special which was an oven roasted chicken with potatoes, which he said was very good. I on the other hand ordered the fungi risotto, which they first brought out with chicken on top. The server quickly took it back and returned with a brand new plate. The risotto was very yummy, I'm not even the biggest fan of white mushrooms, but the sauce made everything on the plate taste wonderful. With some cheese grated on top and some pepper, it was perfect. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu , which was luscious. All of the times that I have had tiramisu, it never was really that good. But pizzico's tiramisu made me fall in love with this italian dessert. The texture was so creamy and light and it made me wish I wasn't so stuffed so I could eat even more. The bill was pretty high even with a groupon, but it was a delicious night with great service and beautiful ambiance. I had the stuffed gnocchis with shrimp, prosciutto, spinach, and shrimp. It was amazing. The gnocchis are stuffed with cheese. It melts in your mouth. I've never tasted anything like it. The location is good. A nice small restaurant with TVs at the bar. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli. I didn't think it was that good. It had a cream sauce I felt didn't match with the pumpkin. Andinos has a fall special, pumpkin ravioli with a maple Sauce they is just to die for. We also had the caprese salad. Wasn't that impressed for $13. They gave us lettuce on the side but it had no dressing on it. So it was really unusable. And it was a lot. I also think this place is a little expensive. In conclusion, some short comings are completely offset by one of the best entrees I have ever had. read more

Years ago, I would have told you that Pizzico was my absolute favorite restaurant. I've expanded my horizons since then, but Pizzico remains in my top 10. Pros: -They do what they do really well. Pizzico is never hurting for business, yet it always leaves me feeling underwhelmed. The food is usually pretty good, but the prices are very high for what you get. Last night I had a swordfish special and for $27 I got a small piece of very plain fish served over an enormous bed of baby spinach with a few small globs of goat cheese, plain roasted parsnips and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds. The fish was fresh, but the whole dish lacked flavor. For $27, I expected more. Our waitress wasn't very good. She didn't seem to care. We has empty water glasses and weren't even told the dessert special which when hearing it, I would have ordered. Bottom line - Overpriced. My fiancee and I live near this place, so we got a restaurant.com coupon in order to try it out. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll be back. We went on a cold damp night and we were first seated at a table right next to the door. I'm not one to complain at restaurants, but I couldn't take the chilly wind blowing on the back of my neck. We asked for another table and got one in the window. The draft was gone, but it was still freezing cold. My fiancee wore her jacket during the entire meal, and I wish I had. The bread and olive oil were very good. We asked for and received a second plate. She had the mushroom risotto, which she liked very much. I had the gnocchi with lobster. I really enjoyed the first few bites, but as the food cooled it got thick and pasty. Two pasta dishes and two glasses of wine came to $68.00 before tip. That's just too much for the experience we had. And here's something weird. After they took $25 off for the restaurant.com coupon, the sales and meals tax actually went UP by a few cents. The revised total, including tax and tip, came to about $55. That's somewhat reasonable, but if we go back we'll definitely wait for some sort of price promotion and warmer weather. read more

I have a soft spot in my heart for Pizzico after spending a great evening with my sister and friends here before my bachelorette. Most recently, my husband and I came in for happy hour, which had half priced appetizers at the bar. The food was great: Brussel sprouts and crispy shrimp were standouts, and the shrimp and scallop bruschetta we ordered was good, too--the flavors were great and the whole dish would have been amazing if the bread was a little bit crisper. This is the first time I have been here and definitely the last. The service is horrendous, the food was ok, at best and the bill for 3 entrees and 4 drinks came to $179. I gave the waitress a cash tip as my daughter put the bill on her card. When we got in the car my daughter mentioned that there was a 20% gratuity on the bill. Some of the best fish in town! Just moved to the Hope area of Providence after about 4 years in the general area. I've already been here multiple times in the weeks I've been here. On any given night there are many different seafood options that satisfy whichever fish you are craving, and if you don't like that try a pasta dish or the veal! Salads are also great. The waiter and the waitress that work there during the week are always so sweet to me and always make me feel welcomed when I show up the second time in two days. 5 stars all the way read more

No complaints about this place! We went last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I had a $20 off thing and sometimes servers can be snotty about those but ours (Ashley) was so great! Our drinks were delivered to is promptly, we ordered a salad to start she split for us in the kitchen which was very nice. For our entrees I got the mushroom risotto which was incredible! So so good. My date got a chicken dish with pasta and red sauce and beans that he really enjoyed. Then we got a really great pecan tart to share to end things and it was delish as well. First I must say the service was so good it brought a "meh" up to A-OK. I love the place as far as look and feel however the food we ordered was not what I expected. I ordered Calamari, a favorite for me. The squid was tough and chewy, difficult to swallow. The breading was light and crisp, had they cooked the squid differently I think it may have been better. It was over cooked I am sure and maybe not so fresh. The other dish, shrimp scampy, had a sauce to die for, it was on pasta cooked well and adorned with old once-frozen shrimp. Trust me I know an old shrimp when I feel one in my mouth. I will try them again some day, no seafood though. I have never experienced such poor customer service upon entering a restaurant. We were literally stood in line at the front entrance for 15 minutes before anyone in line was acknowledged. Most had reservations, including us. The staff at restaurant was rude and abrupt as they brushed past the host stand trying to avoid us at all costs. Once we were finally seated, our waiter was very nice. Service was slow but it was fine for our dinner. The food was very good. But for the price? It was sparse. I ordered the pumpkin ravioli and received 6 medium-sized ravioili and many chunks of tomatoes. For $20? You get waay more for your money just a short trek away on the Hill. I liked the restaurant. My wife and I used the group on the recently had as an excuse to finally try it out. The food was good. I had a Marsala special and my wife had a cream sauce, mushroom, tortellini dish. Both were really good Italian food. We also had the classic Rhode Island fried calamari appetizer which was good, but not as great as other local places. We were disappointed in the chocolate, hazelnut gelato we split. The wine list is great. It has a big range of reds and whites. The prices aren't absurd and the selection was good. The major problem is the price. There are other places that do the same for less, both on Federal Hill and downtown, if you want Italian. That said Pizzico is a good restaurant and I would go back even if I had to watch the price. read more

Had we been 30 minutes later it would have been a problem. The host placed me with my husband in a sweet romantic corner of the restaurant and we proceeded to have a lovely dining experience. Sure, the cocktails could be cheaper (although they are large and potent - try Tea for Me). And the salad on the crispy melanzane appetizer is a bit of a throwaway of wilted greenery. But that crispy eggplant was fried without being heavy, and the cheese was delicious. My penne alla vodka was the right mix of cream and tomato and cheese - we shared many bites and kept promising to recreate it at home but I think we might just return to Pizzico. Had my birthday lunch here 5/21. First time for me, wife has been several times. Great waiter, MAX, was friendly, professional and efficient. Food was delicious and different - but hit all the high notes - sweet, fat, acid, heat. We sat in the window seats with busy street people watching for a Monday at noon. Elegant decor, NO BLARING music (and I am seasoned rock musician) and quality dishes and flatware. Just a lovely spot and highly recommended. I've been here several times since moving over to the Wayland Square area. While pricey the food is always delicious, however service and professionalism are very much hit or miss. This past weekend my wife and a good friend came for dinner and when we began speaking to the hostess, who may or may not be the owner or manager, he abruptly stopped our conversation to address another couple that walked in the door. It was very clear that these were regulars and according to this individual - far more important than we were. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and uncalled for and our culinary community. We will be reconsidering patronizing here in the future and will think twice before recommending them to the tens of thousands of followers who look to us for food recommendations in the area. The moral of the story to ownership, do not judge people by their age or outward appearance. Treat everyone equally and don't expose yourself to these kinds of issues. read more

I came here on a recomendation from a friend when I said I wass looking a a great tasting pasta location with a middle price tag. The location is somewhat away from providence, but easy to fin...easy drive up hope st until you find a cute lil street full of restaurants. The environment was very warm, soothing, relaxing, filled with laughter, and the obvious crowd of dressed wine drinkers. Very italian..nothing too fancy, just simple, with small details to enjoy and look upon...lots of pictures on the brick walls. Service: Very good...our waiter Phillip was very informative, joyful, and fast. They have daily speical, one of which we ordered, and a wine menu larger than the menu itself!!!!(15 pages or so) Food: I ordered the pumpkin filled raviola with pesto sauce, and the special was a risotto with clams, shrimp, scallop, and more with lots of herbs that sounded really tasty. The food came within 10 mins of ordering, though the wine that we ordered left for a happy early start! The bread was delicious, epcially with the olive oil that came along with it...we wanteed to kidnap the bowl or very light, simple, clean, olive oil that absorb flavorfully to the tongue very fast and never left an oily feeling like most olive oils. The main dishes were great...served hot, fresh, al dente, pretty jazzy presentation, colorful, and very earthy.... both of us cleaned the plates up, not a spot, sauce to be left(bread and sauce, yummmm) We would have gotton dessert, but were really full, so my next review down there will included a dessrt for sure. Price, it was about 60$ for 2, with wine, and great service... The one complaint i somewhat had was my seat, which was near the windon, under a cascading tree, but it was just a bit too long for my taste as it hoovered over my head scrathing it once in awhile. Although we loved the large, luscious salads and bread , our dinners were disappointing. The sole was the most heavily breaded and soggy fish I have ever eaten. It is tough to mess up sole , but Pizzico did. My tablemate had the veal parm, which he always orders in Providence Italian restaurants. Not this one anymore. We have been to Pizzico a few times but will avoid it unless our group demands it and then will remember no sole and no veal parm. Maybe salad and pizza. The coconut gelato is very good. read more

we had a great meal at Pizzico this week. while the majority of the meal was quite good, the special Flounder w/local vegetables in Orange-Sage dish was perfectly executed. It was subtle and flavorful, and satisfying. The prices are high, agreed, but you can have a great meal by navigating the menu. I would have paid $50 an entree happily for a meal of the quality and standard of that Flounder. The server was great, and friendly. Wine list was good, too.
