Pizzico was my Restaurant Week choice and we were very happy. I have driven by many times and to be honest, the restaurant name/sign thing never inspired me to visit but now I know better. The staff was very friendly upon arrival and the decor is charming. I really thought it was a nice space. Our waiter, Aaron maybe, was great. We both wanted the same thing and he explained that this meal was not often what people expected and we both ended up switching our main. The food was amazing. We both had fried oysters to start. I am still thinking about them. The batter was light and crisp. They were the perfect temperature and the sauce put it over the top. Best fried oysters I had had. I had a fish sandwich w/fries for my main that was very good. Their batter is spectacular. My friend got salmon and finished every morsel on her plate. Since we did the Restaurant Week menu, we each got dessert. She got a delicious cheesecake and I had the chocolate mousse. Mine was topped with cocoa powder. It was perfection. Light but rich. Pizzico is charming, romantic, and conveniently located within walking distance of my house, so I really, really wish I liked it more than I do. While it has all the potential in the world to be a great Italian restaurant, it just falls short for me. The service was excellent - our waiter was polite, timely and friendly. He even helped me select my appetizer, entree and wine when I was overwhelmed by the seemingly endless possibilites set before me. I went with La Bresaola (an arugula salad with shaved Pecorino Romano, lemon juice, truffle oil and thin-sliced dry-aged beef) to start, which was different, refreshing and quite lovely - a great way to start the meal. For my entree, I had the flounder special that just wasn't... special. The fish was fresh, but the breading was a tad heavy and just slightly lacking in flavor and texture. The cucumber and dill side salad had an off taste to it, so I actually avoided eating most of it. The risotto was nice, but pretty forgettable. As I said, the ambience is lovely, the service is great and I really, really wish the food matched up with the rest. Maybe I need to go back for pizza or pasta or a classis Italian dish like Saltimbocca, which I'd be happy to do. They also have outdoor seating for the summer, which is adorable. I got at Restaurant.com certificate, so I decided to give Pizzico a try. I had eaten there maybe about 5 years ago, and it was not memorable, so I said...why not ! We ordered a few things to try...here is what we ordered and our feedback on them... - Thin grilled pizza with pepperoni - The crust was nice and crispy. Not as thin as I like it but OK. The toppings were greasy, overflowing and not very flavorful. - The Pear Gorgonzola salad was OK. Slices of pear were warm (maybe even grilled). The greens were fresh, but nothing to write home about. - The spinach ravioli - It was bland. The filling was kind of slimy. The tomato sauce on top of was too much. Went back after well over a year. I mean gotta give a place at least two try's...this time I went with a friend for a late dinner on a Tuesday. So service was good as expected since it wasn't busy. I gotta say I had the sea bass with seafood risotto ....oh my god the buttery goodness of this dish. Cooked perfect. I ate it for lunch the next day as well and I don't even like leftovers! Listen, I understand fine dining, I do. I spend more on eating out every month than I do for rent. So a $25 entree is no big thang. Unfortunately, if you're going to charge $25 a plate and $13 for appetizers then there are style standards you need to adhere to. This means no cheap paper tablecloths, no Olive Garden esque murals on the walls, and the service needs to be better than Pizza Hut. Pizzico is a restaurant with decent food but that desperately wants to shove themselves into the fine dining scene. Sorry folks, you're not there. But let's talk drinks. My white sangria was delicious. Now let's talk food. They were out of every appetizer we wanted and finally ended up with the Calamari Marinara (which our waitress recommended over the very interesting looking pine nut calamari.) It was decent. The rings were a little giant and overcooked, but they did come out hot, which is more than you can say for most places. My boyfriend got the Seabass ontop of lobster risotto and loved it. He initially was on an "I hate this place" rant but calmed down once he tasted his dish. I was on a "this place isn't so bad" rant until my pasta came. I got the pasta with "spicy" lamb sausage and marinara sauce. It tasted like sweet pumpkin pie and had little to no marinara in it. I have to give them credit that I'm sure it would have tasted good to someone who wanted and expected it. I expected a spicy sausage pasta dish with red sauce. I had an identical tasting meal in Cleveland a week ago except they used duck instead of sausage. It was called "Pumpkin and Duck Pasta". I understand that this was not a pumpkin dish, but was also not a spicy dish nor a marinara dish. It was so bad that I couldn't even eat it and didn't bother to bring all $23 worth of it home either. I don't usually complain about paying too much for a meal, but the food, ambiance and service doesn't warrant the prices they charge. I've paid much less for a much better dinner. read more

My husband and I went here for an "early dinner" on a Saturday night around 5pm with our baby in her stroller. The seating is a little tight but they were very accommodating and sat us at a little table where we could pull the stroller along side. Once seated, we reviewed the menu. The menu choices are ok, typical of an Italian restaurant, with a decent assortment of appetizers, pizza, pasta, beef, chicken and seafood. Not in the mood for a super heavy meal, we opted for the calamari, pizza, salad and soup. The calamari and pizza came out first. When we sat down the calamari passed us on the way to another table and the smell was intoxicating...in a good way...which swayed us to order. When we tried it, the calamari was ok, but certainly smelled better than it was. It wasn't bad, I've just had better. The pizza on the other hand was wonderful! We ordered the Italiano pizza and it was perfect for us to share, cooked well and he flavors just work together! For our "second" course I had the Della Casa salad and my hubby had the De Campo soup, which took FOREVER to come! I mean it was a soup and salad which should've been the easiest thing to serve! But when it did arrive, the salad was fresh and HUGE plus the dressing was very good! My husband liked his soup, but again, wasn't anything overly wow'ing about it. I've walked by pizzico at least once a week since moving into the area. I've been dying to try it out so thought a celebration dinner was as perfect a time as any! My boyfriend and I started out with a RI classic - stuffies! The fillings were so delicious. I do wish that they weren't miniature and were full size. I ordered the gnocchi for my main meal. It had goat cheese in it. It was such a nice end of summer dish. It wasn't too heavy like most gnocchi's are. My only complaint with pizzico is the price. It's definitely overpriced for the food and service but overall a good experience if you're looking to shell out the dough! read more

I went here for restaurant week with my friends. The inside was fancy and beautiful, but I was not impressed with the food. I mean, the food wasn't bad by any means, but for $30, I guess I expected either higher quality pasta or a larger quantity. I ordered the Melanzana Fritta Tower, which if just a fancy name for fried eggplant with cheese and salad dressing. It was decent, but came out way too hot. I had wait a couple of minutes before actually enjoying the appetizer. My entree was the Raviol de Spinachi, which is Italian for what I venture to guess is Ravioli stuffed with spinach. When my dish came, I counted the amount of ravioli on my plate. 1, 2, 3 4...5! Yes, FIVE pieces of ravioli for a meal that normally costs $20! The dessert was probably the best part of the meal (probably due to some combination of my sweet tooth at the high quality of the dessert). I got the chocolate moose. Very rich. Definitely something that could be savored. Service WAS very good. I didn't have to ask for a water refill once and the check came out quickly. Otherwise, I would probably not pay 5 star prices for a 3 star meal ever again. read more

Tasty food and apps, but the wait-time for your eats is ridiculous. Waited almost an hour for 3 appetizers and more than 30 minutes for desert! Beer selection is mediocre at best. There are far too many breweries in RI that deliver very good brews, and all they have on tap is Revival (ehh). Expensive for what you get and gave to wait for. The pizza was very disappointing, crust tasted like a frozen pizza from the supermarket, the stuffies were advertised as chorizo and clam w/ lemon aioli but could only be described as stuffing and chorizo(to much) food processed and put in a shell, not a clam to be found, the Salmon Grigliato was tasty but did not come with many tomatoes, dessert was delicious, one martini and one draft beer, $85 plus tip. I had heard it is good, but was pleasantly surprised I liked it even more so for all the reasons previously described. The food was great. Probably the best Italian restaurant on the East Side. I have been here quite a few times and have always had an excellent experience. First, the food is great. The Antepasto plate is fabulous for an appetizer (they use the fancier Assortimento Italiano, but it is an antepasto)... and paired with a pizza, it is a perfect lighter meal. Their pasta dishes are solid. I usually get the Pasta di Zucca, and lick my plate clean! On my most recent visit I tried the Lobster & Gnocchi which was as equally delicious, twice as filling (I actually had leftovers) and almost $10 more. Second, the service is impecable. From the host to the wait staff, everyone is friendly, accommodating and professional. On one occasion, we waited so long for our pizza, that they gave it to us on the house! My only issue with Pizzico is the price. It is a plate of pasta people... why does it have to be $25?! (Granted the prices range from $18-$28.) read more

I had dinner here last night with my daughter. We decided to go even though it's pretty expensive for me, but I had a $20 coupon from accumulated past visits so we went. It looks different inside, much nicer interior, beautifully done. We had such a good meal. I had a newer menu item, the tortellini with ricotta and peas, and it was amazing. I even took a picture so I could include it in my review. I could eat that every night. My daughter loved the stuffies and the lobster penne. We had a wonderful, tasty, relaxed, leisurely lunch here on a summer Sunday afternoon. Pizzico was recommended to us by a lifelong Providence resident, and the pick did not disappoint. The homemade pastas are worth coming back for again: hand rolled pappardelle noodles bathed in a creamy bolognese (a bit too creamy and not meaty enough by Bologna's standards but still delicious to our taste); strozzapreti with spicy lamb sausage and a fresh herbed tomato sauce reduction; penne with lobster, cream sauce and vodka; (alas, after downing two dozen sweet and briny New England oysters on the half shell, we did not have room for the tortellini stuffed with Portobello and wild mushrooms and tossed with pancetta in a light brandy cream sauce). The saltimbocca was prepared perfectly: moist and tender, not rubbery or tough. Service could not have been more professional. We will be back for sure, but wonder if the hard surfaces on walls, floors and tables would make the interior too noisy for our ears when full? read more

Went for restaurant week menu which can always be a gamble. I lost. Let me review. Although the service was excellent the portions were completely laughable. The "mini" stuffies were really just 4 cherry stones served on a bed of sea salt. Had the veal which was an $5 upcharge. Disappointing only 1 veal scallopini of at most 2-3 OZ with pre cooked potatoes. Bingo!! I was out a cool $100 with the wife and still hungry. Literally wrapped the deserts and went to get a sandwich. Taste and service fine but they really need to consider more appropriate portions or not participate. This was my third time going to Pizzico. My boyfriend and I got takeout (bolognese, Brussels sprout app, and the steak and cake). Wow. We were both blown away with how amazing everything was even taking it home. Second time I got the bolognese and it's easily the best I've ever had. I really like this place. The ambiance is dark and warm, perfect for a couples night out. It's small inside, but you don't feel like you're on top of anyone else due to the lighting. The service is friendly, the bread and olive oil is awesome. I always get the salmon, it's amazing! The salty broth that it's served with is perfectly balanced. Last night I got the steak special with mashed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, and a brown glaze. I'd eat that for every meal if I could afford the $35. My hesitation to give it 5 stars is the price. $10 for a low-shelf whiskey and coke? And the salmon was $26, you can basically get the same thing at Red Stripe for $19 or $20. Things started out pretty well... I had been looking forward to trying buck a shuck/appy hour. Started with raw oysters and littlenecks, which were very tasty and well shucked. Probably should have just stopped there. Tried to order some other apps and pizza and was informed after placing order that many items were unavailable. There was an event on the previous day, that caused many items to be sold out. I would think the management/buyers would have planned ahead better. We were told by our server that the lobster for lobstocado pizza was not available, and we could sub another seafood. Shrimp seemed to be acceptable sub to go with avocado. Sadly, the pizza we received had no avocado, just some greens and a few cherry tomatoes. Oysters Rockefeller were tasty, but could have used a minute or two under the broiler. Went for lunch. Quiet, elegant place. The food starts w high quality ingredients. The salad was fresh, crispy w a light vinaigrette. Good. The soup was hot. Almost too hot. Tasty none the less. The zuppa clams came out w a light tomato sauce, plenty of little necks and fresh chopped tomato. That plate was demolished! The pizza margarita was s little disappointing. Partly my fault because I didn't read the description that good. Isn't a pizza margerita, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil and some cheese? Thus had tons of cheese, too much oatmeal, a couple tomatoes, some basil shreds AND a balsamic drizzle. Who dies that? As disappointing as it was, it was a fine pizza just not what I was expecting or wanted. Service was ultra relaxed. There were only 3 other tables. We did not get water refills, long waits for appetizers and meals. So why four stars? Cuz it's a nice environment and everyone else's meals looked great! I will go back. I stopped in the other day for their half off bar menu around 4pm. In short, the food was a 5, service a 2. The Caesar salad and margherita pizza were very good. And the bar menu is a steal during the week. The décor is also very nice The service was the low point. So I walk into the empty restaurant and let them know I am going to sit at the bar. The server asks if I am going to be eating and I say yes. He asks if I want the lunch or dinner menu and I say I am there for the bar menu. He looked confused. Now they do this every weekday between 3 and 6, should be routine by now. I say the half price bar menu. He then continues to debate with me for the next 5 minutes that they have no such menu, looking at me like I am a moron and he is so very sure of himself. I tell him not only is it on your website but my friends have been there for this. He still stands there saying no, he has been there awhile and they have never done it. At this point I am very irritated. He goes back to talk so someone else and comes back to confirm they don't have it. He gets me the paper on the table to attempt to show me and yes it IS there, exactly what I am referring to. I point at it, very clear. He then continues to say no. What the F am I missing here??? I said you have half price pizza and apps 3-6. He then goes Oh, are you referring to food? Did I not say right when I walked in that I am there to eat at the bar and wanted the bar menu??? Why would he think I was talking about half price drinks? He eventually was very apologetic but what a terrible first impression. I almost walked out before even getting to try the place. The waiter was friendly after that but his pretentious manner was a turn off to me. My friends also found the same attitude with the staff when they were there. Now I go to nice restaurants often and friendly and down to earth is far more attractive than snooty. If the management reads this at all, the way you handle this is to know what you are talking about for one, and to ask someone to clarify if need be. You do not talk down to them in a pretentious way, just to end up looking foolish. If someone has been there for so long as they say, they should know they do the half price menu every day at this time. That was the first server, and then when his shift was over it was a woman taking over for him. To end this great experience, she gave me the bill at full price. I had to tell her that it is a half price menu. Do these people really work here??? Keep in mind this is an empty restaurant. If you are that unfocused when there is nothing going on, I would not trust them at dinner when it is busy. The whole experience was a headache. Not Impressed! Service was slow even though we were sitting at the bar. For two entrees and a bottle of wine our bill was almost $100. My chicken parm was COVER in congealed cheese and I was given about 5 luke warm asparagus. My girlfriend order the filet (about $40) which came with garlic mash potatoes. They steak was cooked to look like a chard briquet and the potatoes were cold. At that point I was ready to walk out but we sent it back. Oddly enough the second dish was cook perfectly. The steak was juicy and pick in the center (med rare) and the potatoes were warm and tasted fresh (not just reheated). I would give this restaurant 4 starts if all the food came out like that but it was far from it. I give this restaurant 1 star, not because of the price because I don't mind paying for good food, but because of the food quality. I'm also not going to give this restaurant 2 or 3 stars because of the 2nd steak dish. If you can only cook a great dish after someone sends food back that is just lazy and you do not respect the customer enough to be on your A game all the time. Over all I was very disappointed and will not be back. Who knows maybe if you go the chefs will actually care that day and cook food like they know how. Pizzico Restorante is in the center restaurant for what I think of as the triumvirate of great eateries on Hope Street near Rochambeau, located between the wonderful, Ivy Tavern and Hope Street Pizza. Now I can say all three are worthy of your patronage. Pizzico is a splendid Italian restaurant that has impressed me with each visit. As I look at some of the other less flattering reviews, nothing that they have complained about has been our experience there. From rapid host seating to really good food, we have had top times at Pizzico. I love their dishes that always seem to include something unique and original, including ingredients that bring a dash of creativity to what otherwise might be more typical fare. Everything we have tried, whether it be the sole or the tortellini, has been nicely prepared and extremely tasty. As I search for any complaint, I honestly cannot find one. Service has been quick, friendly and very helpful, and above all not snobbish or off-putting in the least, something which is a black mark immediately for me if I go anywhere that has a hint of that atmosphere. I first thought Pizzico might be that type of place but I am so happy to say it is not all. I was able to chat with the staff, who were relaxed and friendly. Our most recent visit was sitting at the bar with a newer bartender named John who could not have been a nicer, affable and knowledgeable bartender. We talked about everything form Seinfeld to The Red Sox opening day roster, and his recommendations, and thoughts on the food and drinks we were having or were thinking about were spot on. He's a great guy and therefore a perfect bartender! We had one of their signature desserts called "Napoleon Pizzico", a layered puff pastry with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberry compote. It was incredible to say the least and hopefully becomes a staple of their menu. I honestly think that Pizzico is a better choice than many of the Federal Hill restaurants folks talk up, some of which (of course not all) are highly overrated or just plain pedestrian. Wow, so after an hour an a half after ordering, and everyone around us ordering, eating, finishing their meals around us, paying and even leaving, we were still waiting for our meal. I ordered Chilean Sea Bass, and a thin filet of black sea bass arrived without explanation. Did they think I wouldn't notice or not know the difference? I was told at first that Chilean fish takes longer to cook when we asked about the delay... wow, really?? Then the manager came over, apologized and said that they had run out of the Chilean Sea Bass and had to THAW the black sea bass thus the delay. Again, REALLY?!?! I was never told they were out of what I ordered. I used to be a regular, but hadn't been in to eat in over a year. Never again. I came here with friends this past Friday night. It was fairly crowded but the staff were very accommodating and were able to quickly move some tables and chairs to hook us up with seating outside. It was a gorgeous night so we were psyched to sit outdoors. Our waiter was a nice guy and very friendly. Everyone that waited on us was great. I had some basil gin drink which was awesome. Warning: they taste so good you could have ten, no problem. The food was all good but I felt it was very overpriced. I ordered the veal saltimbocca. It was good, but not worth $28. My dinner date and I got an Amazon deal ($20 for $40) and we had never tried Pizzico despite living so close so we gave it a try. It had a great ambiance and very upscale clientele so we were excited to check out the menu. We need it would be more on the expensive side but $17 for a calamari appetizer is a little steep. Thankful their wine prices were pretty much the going rate! I ordered the veal parm which was a little too well done but none the less quite tasty. My date ordered the mushroom risotto which was delish (I tried and can attest!). Will I be back? More than likely no. But I was happy I tried. read more

We went to the Raw Bar (bar closest to Hope St) of Pizzico on 8/31/18 just for a bottle of wine. I have to say the bar staff was the strangest, unfriendly group of bartenders I have ever experienced in a restaurant. The tall, blond female bartender would only look at us, smile, but hardly utter a word. No greeting as we arrived or left. Actually, she seemed mute. There was also a younger guy in his 20s with brown hair behind the bar. He literally walked by us 30 times in a 1.5 hr period of time. He never said hello or bye, informed us of his role behind the bar, or offered to do anything for us. That bar experience was the strangest, most uncomfortable experience I have ever lived through. I would never return to this restaurant to even try the food due to the unfriendly, odd behavior of the bar staff. We fled after the bottle of wine and went to a bar in a nearby restaurant. The bartender at this restaurant relayed he had a similar experience, and the general opinion in the neighborhood was the bar staff and service was terrible. The restaurant was not busy for a Friday night at 8-9 pm at night. I would advise the owner/management to recruit a more efficient, welcoming, and overall friendly bar staff if they want the bar to be successful. read more

This place offers some wonderful dishes!! The free bread and oil was really good. The list of specialty cocktails has about 8 drinks, all priced $12.99/each, which seems a bit high. Would be better value at $9.95. There were 4 specials for the night and my husband and I each chose one. I had the pan seared scallops with chirizo risotto and he had filet mignon with mashed potatoes, and trimmings. We started off with caesar salads, which were tasty, but could have done with a little more dressing, priced on the high side at $12.99 I believe. The scallops were done to "sliced like butter" perfection. Risotto was very delicious. My husband steak was tasty too. We did a taste swap . Couldn't fit dessert, too stuffed. I like Pizzico, anf the food is very tastey, but as other reviewers have noted, it's really expensive and I'm just not sure it's worth it. I bought a Groupon for this place a little while back, and BF and I went there for dinner. The food was excellent--honestly, no complaints. The tomato soup is amazing, I had a specialty pizza with asparagus in it which made me very happy and BF got a caprese salad, which was loaded with fresh mozzarella. They also had a specialty drink list for the summer, which was a lot of fun. Here comes the BUT: Every time I've been there, three times now, service has been painfully slow. The bread, drinks and entrees come out in a reasonable amount of time, but then there's this exceptionally long wait before I can refuse dessert and ask for the check. This is usually after all the food is eaten or boxed and we are done with our drinks. It's the worst time to just sit there because there's nothing to do. The first time we went there, we sat outside and it was hard to know if our server was just really busy, but she all but vanished and left us with no water and empty plates. The second time, our server had a lot of large parties--mostly older high-maintenance types, and our table got a little ignored. Third time, I went for lunch with a friend, there were only two other tables in the restaurant, and it still took two hours. Is it me? Do I need to demand the bill when the entree gets delivered? That seems like the only way to get out of this restaurant in a reasonable amount of time. I have one Groupon left, which I'll use, but I don't know if I'll be back after that. read more

Not impressed. Too dark could not read the menus had to take out the iphone and use the flashlight. Waitress did not even know the beers that were on tap. Slow service. The bread and oil were well the olive oil was tasteless and the bread was weird i hated the texture and the flavor. I ordered the pasta fagoli ok 8.99 for a SMALL bowl of soup that was FLAVORLESS even with the fresh grated cheese. Husband had a pasta dish with a ragu and lamb sausage, 24.99, the sauce by it self would be OK and the lamb sausage by it self would be OK together disaster. The sausage was over spiced and HOT so it over took the sauce. We passed on dessert. Will not be back again. read more
