This places waffles back and forth between 5* and 4*. Tonight was a 5* night. Thanks to our waitress, Lana, who made it an awesome experience despite being packed on the patio. So, wow, I have had their burger many times and tonight was superb. I added bacon and it was perfectly cooked. The bun held together on the bottom despite the patty being very juicy and full of flavor. Loved it! I liked the fries, they were crunchy and tasty. I love their sweet chili sauce (try it on the wings!) and had it on the side for both the burger and fries. So good! Love the front patio for such a beautiful night. Give them a try.
Let my lack of food pictures tell you all you need to know about the food here. Blackwall Hitch is by far one of the best brunch restaurants in the DMV, from the food, ambiance, music, and location by the water. They have a buffet of your breakfast staples, a waffle bar, carving station, and seafood bar featuring oysters, shrimp, and smoked salmon. I probably had about 3 plates when it was all said and done, and my friends couldn't stop raving about everything. We all got cocktails, and then shared a (huge) bottle of champagne (which they gave us orange and cranberry juice to make mimosas). We all left saying how we can't wait to come back again.
I came in with co-workers for dinner. Originally there was confusion when they sat us at the table and we did not have a server for a while until we reached out to the hostess. When we finally got our waitress, she was super friendly and attentive. The decor and views for the restaurant is beautiful. The food was okay and fairly priced. The shrimp and grits was pretty good, juicy shrimp; the flounder was good, though it could've used a little more seasoning; the French onion soup was just alright it wasn't as hot as expected, even with the melted cheese on top; the crab dip was rich, flavorful, and served flaming, which was a nice touch; te seafood salad was decent, but the dressing felt a bit on the heavy side; the Brussel sprouts lacked flavor and was not cooked all the way through; the drinks were refreshing and tasted great. They do have a happy hour, but it's only available if you sit in the bar area. There is a pay, parking structure below the restaurant. Overall, it was pretty decent. Beautiful place for dinner.
Came here with another couple for a double date and none of us finished our food. The food was mid at best, nothing was worth the actual price we paid. I get it's probably supposed to be more expensive because of the location but we almost spent $100 here for two apps and half an appetizer with no drinks. My husband got the crab flatbread pizza and it had way too seasoning and toppings - like all we could taste was old bay and cheese. The burger seemed wet? Not sure if it was grease or what. The restaurant was extra hot and loud, def hard for convos. The tables were super close together so the people behind hit me and the waiter at the other table bent over and their butt was in my husbands face.
I had high expectations for this restaurant but it was just okay. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable of everything. She did great with our large group and lots of questions. The crab cake sandwich was all I was in the mood for and it was okay. My friend loved the shrimp and scallop rissoto. The crab dip however, was really good. However, they said it came flaming (like a whole presentation), but we didn't get that part. No big deal, because it was delicious! Overall, it was okay.
Stopped by for some nice ambiance and some good cocktails. This place is beautiful, wasn't my first time visiting so I was a bit familiar with h the environment. The restaurant seems pretty big-with two levels however, I've never been to the second level. The service is impeccable, I didn't have to ask one thing. The servers/bartenders and man all seem to be on the same page. My server named song-who was also the bartender was and is excellent!!!!! He makes the best drinks and he's quick with it. I really liked how the staff was working as a team. Even the managers were working hard and lending a helping hand which is something you rarely see nowadays. Everyone was so pleasant and worked with a smile. Every single employee that passed my table asked if things were okay or if anything was needed The ambiance is beautiful!!! The outdoor seating was closed due to the weather but the view was still present.... I ordered what I believe was called "The fisherman's catch". The platter came with Salmon, 2 stuffed shrimp a crab cake and 2 sides. I chose green beans and mashed potatoes. The food didn't take long and arrived looking marvelous... The green beans were so good that I think I finished them before I touched anything else--well I did taste a little bit of mashed potatoes once my plate was sat down and they were good but they were lukewarm. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so was the crab cake I didn't care too much for the crab cake. The crab cake seemed to have too much breading for my liking. I guess I'm spoiled by the MD lump/jumbo lump crab cakes. don't think the menu said lump crab-only says Maryland crab cake. The flavor was there but I wouldn't order it again. I had chill wings to go which smelled amazing-however they were breaded and didn't hold up well overnight. (My fault).... Last but not least-I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake which was amazing..... It arrived with a side of caramel and a side of whipped cream. I like those place it's not too dark and not too bright. It had a good vibe and everyone seems to work hard. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in Old Town looking for a nice spot to dine. Shout out to my server Song-I hope I spelled it right!!! lol
Well, it's been a minute since I've been to this Blackwall Hitch, but my partner and I returned to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. I was hoping it was better than my last visit, and it was. There was a band playing, which set a nice vibe. They had the usual far of spectacular brunch food, but we did notice something. The usual unlimited mimosa option was gone. And, it was likely for the best. That may have been all the difference at this location. If so, it worked. I had my favorite, waffles, and they did not disappoint! The bacon was TOP TIER! Thin, crispy and perfect. The red velvet cupcakes were divine. My partner had the oysters and thought they were tasty. I usually don't have the oysters at brunch because they seem to be.... I don't know, lower quality with no brine. But she said they had a slight brine to them and were good. We did have a few mimosas, the pineapple and mango. They were decent. Omar, our server, needed help, but he kept trying to get it right. For the most part, it was a good brunch. Nobody had any major issues. FYI, the gratuity is built in.
Came for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat at the bar. The place is huge and we had a nice side view of the river from our seats. We each ordered the happy hour old fashioned which was pretty good. The food was good but both items felt like it was missing something to make it great. Crispy Brussels- nice crisp to them and the bites of salty pancetta were a nice touch. These felt like they needed a sauce or dip though. We liked them better when paired with garlic aioli or the chili sauce that came with the calamari. calamari- good flavor and the fried peppers added a spicy kick. Suggest asking for a side of remoulade to go with these. The calaMari rings could have been a little crispier for our liking but overall we enjoyed this dish.
Came for my mom's bday dinner and they were great. Our waitress was very attentive and present. I ordered the swordfish and it was seasoned very well and it had mashed potatoes and Brussel sprout that I liked but they were a little heavy with the horseradish I think. We had crab dip and calamari and that was all very good as well. My husband had some wings and they really are jumbo! And the lister and crab soup which basically tasted like minestrone soup. I would return.
Nice ambience & good live music. This is the perfect place for socializing. The bar service was good! Unfortunately the prime rib and salmon were overcooked. The prime rib was the biggest sin, it was tough as leather. The shrimp were also under-seasoned, but the texture was good. The oysters were delicious! I found that everything else was similar to a regular buffet. Overall it's decent, but I was disappointed by the food.
Amazing! This was a great birthday celebration for my Mom. We made a reservation for 8 people the day prior, with no issues and had an amazing and tentative server. It has that upscale casual dining feel with an open vibe on the water in Old Town. We ordered an assortment of dishes as well as the special. 9/10 across the board - the crab stuffed rockfish was the best thing I've tasted in while, the Brussels sprouts and Mac were delicious but the special (whole filleted branzino) needed some doctoring. Our cocktails weren't consistent - we ordered the Habanero Passion - good on the first round but had to be sent back on the 2nd. Definitely a good place to chat, grab food and a cocktail with a serene view of the Potomac
I liked this restaurant. I thought that it had a cool atmosphere and was nicely decorated. The food was decent, although I would probably try something different next time. I had the special for the day seafood combination. It was basic. The shrimp and grits didn't disappoint though. The service was friendly. 4 Stars

I came here last weekend for the first time. I want to preface this by saying we all enjoyed our meals. The food was good (food is 4 stars). However, the three star rating is for the cleanliness of where we were sitting. We were put at a booth along the window. Their window sill was covered in dead bugs. The window was also covered in dead bug splatters. At first I thought it was the outside of the window, but nope, it was the inside. It was clear the bugs and window had been like that for a while. I couldn't believe they'd let people sit near that. I'm a former server, and it's normal practice to routinely clean the windows and sills. Looking at that kind of dampened my experience, especially sitting right along it. For food, again, we liked our meals. Two in our group got the creole pasta and the braised short ribs, both delicious. I got the Chesapeake flat bread, and my boyfriend got the burger, we enjoyed each. We also got oysters to start and the crab dip. The oysters were fresh and tasty and you can never go wrong with crab dip! Overall, I enjoyed their food and would go back. Our server, Lauren, was incredible...the rest of our experience was unfortunately not great. We'd been looking forward to visiting Blackwall and finally got around to making a reservation. We arrived and were told we may not have a table, despite the reservation...meanwhile we watched a walk up group of tourists get seated immediately. Once we were seated, our server was warm and welcoming...but when the food arrived it fell far short of expectations. I ordered the black pepper pasta...chicken was bone dry and noodles had no flavor. Tasted over cooked and seemed like all they did was poor a spoon of olive oil and a shake of pepper...there was really no flavor. My partner ordered the crab stuffed rockfish and after about three bites of another bland dish we were ready to move on from this meal. We told our server we wouldn't be finishing our meals and expressed the disappointment, but didn't have any further interaction from the kitchen or management. While the atmosphere is lovely, food fell far short of expectations and I would recommend it with so many other spots in the area. read more

Happy hour in full force due to customers asking for that menu, it wasn't at table or given to you. Greeted by waiter and offered water, bottle and bread. Ordered the tomatoes which were quite delicious but corn relish or 'the presentation' corn was chewy and not reshoot (old). Would have been good cold. Chesapeake pizza never disappoints, margarita was on point and the other pizza looked good. If you haven't been happy hour 4-7pm Monday-Friday on patio or in bar. Some night live music in bar or the Sunday Jazz brunch has great selection, pricey I think but if you included coffee or juice might be worth it. read more

A friend recommended this place in Old Town Alexandria. I've walked by it multiple times and haven't had a chance to try it so I was open. When we were sat it took a while to get our water and for our server to take our order. We asked a couple of questions and got short answers and we needed to ask multiple follow up questions. The drinks were okay--there was nice presentation but I didn't taste any alcohol and it felt light on the actual drink with as much ice as was in the cup. I really did enjoy the speciality oysters. I ordered what Chesapeake oyster, rising dragon and harvest moon. I appreciated they were each dressed in their own way and will look out for more restaurants that do this. Lastly, about halfway through our dinner they had a performer who was really loud and made it hard for us to hear each other in conversation. I joined a group of colleagues on a work dinner here on a lively Sunday, our reservation was for 7:30 pm and we were seated right away, and together in a group of 10. My colleagues, all enjoyed their wine, cocktails, and beer, and I really liked my peach iced tea. We shared the fried oysters appetizer, as well as the flaming crab dip withbite-sized naan bread pieces that made it easy to share, and the truffle fries. All of the appetizers were really good. I ordered the dinner special, salmon Rockefeller, and it came with a rice pilaf side with some grilled asparagus thrown in the mix. Salmon was cooked well, but I do like it cooked less solid; it was also fattier than the Pacific Northwest salmon I typically cook and order, so I think that was the main reason for that difference. I look forward to returning here with a group or solo. I met a friend in old town Alexandria when I was in national harbor on a work trip. It's such a cute area and I had never been to this part of the DC area. I wanted to get seafood and it was a rainy day. This place was perfect! I had the cherry blossom cocktail, ceviche and plantains as a starter. Next I had the boiler plate which is not on the menu which features shrimp, a crab cake, salmon, mashed potatoes and a tomato. My friend got the shrimp and grits and a tequila old fashioned. Made reservations for Sunday brunch to celebrate my dads birthday. This is located by the water with nice views outside, however it was raining when we went so the weather was not to great. We got seated once we arrived and ordered a bottle of Champagne with different juices for our mimosas. They had different stations throughout, omelettes, waffles, French toast, fried chicken, grits, veggies, potatoes, raw oysters, salads, fresh fruit, desserts and more. The ambiance was so nice with live music playing in the other room. Loved the vibe here, our server was nice and attentive and the food was really good!! Back for another round a great food and great drinks at one of my favorite spots! I usually come here for brunch but the dinner menu is slowing winning me over! I had the crab cakes this time with a side of mashed potatoes and was very pleased. The crab dip was a crowd favorite for the group, and the drink menu did not disappoint! They have champagne and orange juice, they will have Mimosas. The restaurant has served plenty of party including wedding Mimosas will not be a challenge
