So, I'm a huge fan of the build your own fast casual pizza idea. Your Pie has some of the best pizza in town, so I was super excited to try Blaze. This was the first time in my life I was at River City Marketplace when it wasn't a stop on the way to fly out of JAX - my girlfriend and I had to leave the zoo to wait the hour for them to reopen for the Summer Nights event. So why not fast casual pizza? I ordered a red vine with a few modifications - spicy marinara instead of normal, add garlic and subtract whole tomatoes (they bug me). When it came out, it looked CASH. Sadly, the taste did not match the appearance. The main culprit was the sauce - my girlfriend and I both got it. I've seen others here mention it wasn't spicy, so maybe this was a bad batch. Trust me - I really enjoy heat and spice with my food, but this just tasted hot for the sake of hot without being enjoyable or tasty. My pizza had a few solitary pieces of fresh mozz - disappointing when the margherita at Your Pie is drowning in cheese. My girlfriend doesn't have the tolerance for heat that I do and had to stop halfway through hers. One plus - everyone that worked there was great and very attentive, so shout out to them. I don't know if there was just something wrong with the sauce - it sucks because I know if I had just built my pizza as opposed to a specialty it probably would have been very good. But, I'm on the Northside 2-3 times a year so I'll probably never be back. read more

I love blaze pizza. I am a picky eater so being able to choose exactly what I want on my pizza is awesome and for a set price you really cannot beat it. We have many other pizza places like this is San Diego and they usually cost a little more. Blaze is at the top of my list because their prices are great, the topping selection is substantial, and they do not mind if you ask for a little more of one particular topping. Some places charge you more if you want double the pepperoni. We have one in San Diego (where I live) and when I came to visit family we decided to come for dinner. This location is great! They offer all of the same toppings as back home and the staff is wonderful. Today (Saturday) was my first visit to this place. I stopped in with the wife because a co-worker recommended it, good reviews on here and we were in the area. So it was a Saturday, we went in about 10 minutes after they opened and there was a line already! A sign of something great, right? Not so fast....... The employees were friendly and courteous, it was really fast service but as a whole, it was A-ok (3 stars). Don't get me wrong, the pie was better than the big chains (PH, PJ and D) but it wasn't good enough for me to drive out of my way for and I have had better. The crust was thin and crispy with a tiny bit of char on the bottom, just like I like it. But there was a notable difference in the amount of toppings applied to the pizza between mine and the wife's. I'm going to attribute that to the fact that two different employees made the two different pies. Either way, they were a little stingy with the toppings. Speaking of which, there is plenty of variety to choose from....different sauces, cheeses, meats and veggies. With bare, concrete floors, bare walls the music seemed to be everywhere (low hanging speakers overhead) and that made everyone talk louder. 3 stars due to a recent experience I had. Typically Blaze is my go to place for pizza in the north side. Great selection of toppings, pizza surpasses any chain restaurants pizza, and the price is the same no matter how many toppings you add. BUT the other day I ordered over the phone and arrived prior to it coming out of the oven. One of the employees working with the food was playing with another employee, simply holding on to the back of her, no biggie right? The issue came when he went from playing, to laying on the counter the sheet of paper that goes in the box underneath the pizza. He proceeded to grab the paper, lay it flat in the counter, running his hands across it to lay it flat I assume, then placed my pizzas directly on top, and placed the pizza in the ready area. At no point did the young man wash his hand or place gloves on. I didnt make a big deal, just requested to speak to the manager. This was an unexpectedly-great lunch spot that we happened upon while shopping, and it's now become a go-to (sometimes even if it's a bit out of our way...) because my husband likes it so much. We started with their standard offerings the first time, then got more and more creative as we went back. My husband's favorite is the BBQ chicken, with extra toppings, like more/different cheeses, lots of bacon, and a ranch drizzle also. I can never decide between the green stripe (with gorgonzola and roasted garlic) or the white top (with red sauce too!) Prices are very reasonable, about $10/person, for as many toppings as you could possible imagine on a pizza. (We definitely went overboard one or two visits and couldn't even pick up the slices!) The service is quick - we've never waited in a line that wasn't moving quickly, and the pizza crust is parbaked, so it comes out of the large oven in only a few minutes. For my pizza, I added two types of cheese, almost every types of single meat (there were 9-10 options), and a bunch of peppers. It was a glorious piece of art, and all of that only costs around $8. I love their perfectly toasted & extra crispy thin crust. The pizza as a whole was excellent. This is probably the best Make-your-own-pizza place in JAX. Bonus points for being able to watch your pizza "fast fired" in the open-flame oven and transform into its final delicious form. The service was also friendly and fast. I little annoyed there was only one employee at the register so before I could check-in I waited a couple minutes for customers in front of me to finish their purchases. Blaze is definitely one of my favorite fast-fire'd pizza locations. There are several options for the crust, sauce, meat and veggies along with sauces that can be drizzled after the pizza is done. Blaze also has great drink and dessert options. The brownie is delicious and they will warm it for you. My favorite drink is the Blood Orange Lemonade it's amazing. Mary, the cashier is excellent! "That pizza place was good daddy." We decided to let Blaze handle our Super Bowl pizza needs. I ordered ahead online -- it was a very easy process that allowed me to create pizzas in a variety of ways. We got one pepperoni, one meat lovers and one crazy concoction I made for myself that included "spicy red sauce." They promised to have the pies ready to cook by the time we arrive, but not to cook them ahead of time so they don't get cold -- and that's exactly what they did. My wife waited about five minutes after checking in with the cashier, making it home in time for kickoff. I was impressed by the quality of the pizza, although the crust is a little too thin for my liking. Each pie had a distinctive taste, based on the ingredients, and the spicy red sauce is my favorite new thing for using on a pizza. I've been in to this location 3-4 times and I'm never disappointed. I always "build-my-own" and even when I request and insane amount of toppings, the oblige. For about $15 I walked out with two loaded and FRESH pizzas for dinner. Additionally, there is always a lot of staff there. None of the staff ever seems stressed and they are kind and helpful.
