Marina views. Fresh ocean air. And that fabulous Morro Rock. This is one of the best places to grab a bite along the Marina. It's especially fun watching the boats come in, the kayakers paddling, or the seals just doing their thing. I was able to catch a bite of brunch on a Sunday here. It was relaxing and enjoyable. Of course, it's always a tiny bit chilly along the water so a light jacket or sweater is advisable. I ordered The Rock. A large dish that was essentially a breakfast burrito deconstructed. The eggs weren't overcooked, which is always appreciated. Service was pleasant and prompt. A slight hiccup at the beginning trying to ask if we could sit on the patio. A friend treated me to a birthday early dinner here because she had visited last week and raved about the food. She wasn't stretching !! Omg, the Mushroom burger was the BEST burger I've ever had! It was so AMAZING!! If I lived locally, if be eating there all the time!! I would've given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the service. The food was phenomenal, but what threw us off was the wait time for a server to come and say "hi my name is ____, what drinks can i get you?". Visited this place a few days ago based on some decent reviews, late August 2019. The place was packed during the lunch hour and the wait was approximately 30 minutes. That's fair enough. No harm, no foul. The girl who put me on the wait list was friendly and sweet. We got seated eventually. And shortly after, that's where the blue sky went black. My family was assigned to a table under the watch of employee Allen/Andy/A.J. I can only guess his true name based on the info from a different waiter because AJ never introduced himself. We waited and waited and waited further without so much as a menu, glass of water, or "hello I'll be with you in just a couple minutes". Finally, AJ shows up, downturned lips, manicured eyebrows and all. My wife comments on how long it took for service (motioning to our two hungry kids). AJ, without even blinking, has the disrespect to say to her in a snotty tone, "Everybody on the Embarcadero is waiting." I was floored by his body language and words as I waited in vain for some kind of words of sympathy or apology, uttered by even the most spartan of restaurants. This is the kind of courtesy the city of Morro Bay extends to its visiting tourists? Did he ever think that perhaps my family CHOSE this particular place over so many others? I was abhorred when "AJ" outdid himself in the next few minutes: After taking our order, he proceeded to SNATCH away the menu from beneath my 10-year old's elbows without comment. The devil's advocate side of me immediately looks around to observe other waiters' demeanor and attitude, in the case that it could just be me or maybe all the other employees are carrying about in this manner. But nope. We even flagged down someone else's waiter to get straws, and were met with a friendly smile and pleasant attitude despite the busy, bustling time. It's said that there are two arenas where you don't want to cause a stink before receiving services: the dentist and at a restaurant. We kept silent to avoid any "special" ingredients in our food from Chef Retaliation. This was one of those restaurant experiences where the service leaves a bad taste prior to taking a single bite of the food. But if I must persist....the clam chowder had a greasy composition. The "BLTA" (bacon lettuce tomato avocado) sandwich had such a tiny piece of avocado they should have just listed the item as a "BLT with a hint of avocado", or something to that effect. The nice interior aesthetics and ocean horizon landscape views became dead to my family overall, and AJ proved that there can hardly be a redemption for the bad apple that rots the barrel. Hard pass. This is a tough one to review, it's all dependent on what you consider important. Service, food, price? I'm trying to take all into consideration... THAT being said, here we go: We've eaten breakfast at Dorn's before and it was delicious, with good service (despite being very busy). But when we went there this morning the line wrapped around the building, so we knew we were in for a long wait. We decided to give Blue Sky a try instead. It was busy but there was a table available inside. After we were seated at that table (and AFTER we ordered) several other tables became available and customers trickled in and were seated around us. My S.O. and I ordered simple breakfasts... for him- poached eggs, bacon and toast and a breakfast burrito for me. Meanwhile, those who were seated after us continued to have their more complicated orders (i.e.: well-done hamburgers) delivered. After the 4th table (which was seated after us) was given their breakfast, and after waiting 40 minutes(!!!) we flagged down our waiter and asked if our breakfast had been forgotten. He talked to the cooks and came right back and said our breakfast was next up. 10 minutes later we finally got our breakfast. We both thought it our breakfast was good (tough to go wrong with what we ordered though) but we decided that the service and price nulled and voided out the "good" food. Eat here if you have a lot of time to waste and if you're not hungry. I think we would've eaten much quicker had we stuck it out in line at Dorn's. (After reading this it sounds like I'm associated with Dorn's. I am not... I'm just comparing my experience with one busy Morro Bay restaurant with another) I hate leaving bad reviews so I might give this place another chance to redeem itself tomorrow. read more

Came in here for lunch at the recommendation of a friend, and she did not steer me wrong! The food is amazing, service is great and the view is INCREDIBLE. Blue Sky Bistro is a cute little cafe on the Embarcadero with views of the harbor and Morro Rock. You can sit inside, where windows open onto the harbor, or sit outside if the weather is nice. My friend and I came in and, at the invitation of a server, seated ourselves wherever we wanted (making sure to grab seats facing the windows). We both ordered craft beers. Blue Sky has a nice selection including a rotating draft handle and the servers are happy to offer advice. The menu was the hardest part. Everything sounds delicious! I was excited to see they offer breakfast until 4 pm, since I'm a late riser, but I ordered lunch today, the spicy John Montagu, a spicy sandwich with cheese and avocado. Our food came out promptly and I can only say that I have never had a more delicious twist on a grilled cheese. The whole meal felt decadent and perfect. And I've gotta find a reason to come back as soon as possible. It was a great experience! read more

Great location to watch the sunset over the rock. Food was delish, both had pasta dishes served with garlic bread toasted to perfection. The portions were plentiful I couldn't eat all my seafood pasta as it was loaded with fresh salmon, Mahi mahi, clams and mussels. Hubby had shrimp alfredo and loved it. The outside seating is wonderful and the view spectacular. However, we had poor service and bad food. We walked up and the waiter immediately sneezed on our menus and those were the ones he provided to us to use. I got the avocado tomato salad and it was good. I added tuna salad to it and it was tasty. The waiter forgot to put lemons in my water and did not provide refills unless asked. It was so extreme that when I asked for a refill on my water and both my husband and I's waters were mostly empty, he only refilled mine and we had to ask to refill my husband's. He forgot I ordered clam chowder so I got to watch my husband eat his clam chowder before our meal. I had to ask for it after I got my salad. The clam chowder was meh at best. For my husband, he got the seafood linguine and the sauce was basically melted butter, filling most of the bowl. He only ate a few bites of pasta and sampled each type of seafood included. By the time we got back to our hotel he was feeling pretty bad. About an hour later he vomited many times. We ended up leaving our vacation early because of this. $90 for a terrible experience. read more

Today my sister and I decided to have a nice lunch out. We chose this location. I have eaten here in the past and knew the food was good. Today was no exception. I have given it 2 stars because of the following reasons #1 when you have people eating meals inside, your staff needs to be essay more considerate when clearing tables. I've never heard such banging of plates and cups! It was like they were throwing them in the plastic tubs! This involved both make and female staff. It happened at least 4-5 times while we were there. Even when they came in from clearing outside tables they would dump loudly dirty dishes. HELLO?? People are eating! #2 ..They couldn't who got what straight. It was just a water & coke, and you brought it to wrong person, and then did the same thing when the meal came. I would expect that to happen for a larger group but not just 2 people. Not sure if it's under new ownership or not, but I think perhaps some retraining would be helpful . read more

Great pet friendly restaurant. Has a nice patio, half glasses in other half not. Beautifully stunning views. Great to watch the sunsets you can watch the seals and otters as well. Hubby had Pacific Catch the daily catch which was Halibut and I had the Pasta Pomodoro with prawns added. The menu didn't list red pepper flakes so it did have a kick to the sauce but was still delicious. But if you don't like a little spice then you might not like it. We highly recommend and will be going back when we travel to Morro Bay again. read more

We chose this place for dinner because of their 3.50 beers for happy hour, it's on the water downtown and it's dog friendly outside. The food was good! I had fish tacos and my husband had pasta. However, the service was awful. We were there over an hour for a meal that should have taken 30 minutes tops. There were not many people there at all. We had to go insider to get our check finally after 15 minutes of no one in sight after our dinner. However, the staff was very friendly and sweet with our dog. First time here for us has been great! Geoffrey has the seafood salad, which was substantial and included lots of both crab and shrimp. He is very happy with it. I had the Parmesan Alfredo with chicken, basil and mushrooms. The sauce was the perfect consistency and had just the right amount of white pepper to keep it interesting all the way through the meal. I've ate at the restaurant once and the food was excellent as well as the service. I've ordered to go 3 times and all 3 times there was something wrong. The first time I received clam chowder instead of chicken tortilla. The other two times the chicken tortilla soup was missing the crispy tortilla strips on top. I love this place. I eat dinner here whenever I'm in town and watch the sun set behind Morro Rock. I sit outside and sometimes the otters have their dinner with me too. Banging rocks on their clams or mussels. I'm vegetarian and can always find several options here. The Big Sur burger with a veggie patty was really good.
