We were passing through and wanted breakfast in the area. It came up from Yelp. The staff were nice but got a bad first impression when we first got there and there wasn't anybody giving anyone direction. We stood outside for a good while without anybody acknowledging us. The waiters who went outside just passed in and out. There was even a family who was just standing around probably for a while also and wondering when they were going to get their table. Blue Sky has been my very favorite restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for years! I would give 5-stars everyday except for today 11/5/19, so disappointing. The location and view were the only good thing about breakfast this morning. The service was poor, unfriendly, non-attentive, slow, and it was messed up but worse was the food, who was cooking? The poached eggs were way way way under done, my husbands dish was super sloppy and watery for an egg dish, and the sauce was heavy handed all over the plate. I know today was not a good representation of this lovely bistro. Please Blue Sky, get your act back together, did management change? read more

Based on others' reviews of the Blue Skye Coastal Cafe, and because we'd been handed a brochure/menu the evening before as we were strolling down Morro Bay's Embarcadero, my husband and I decided to try this place for breakfast. After all, it offered free wifi too. Caveat: I'm a pretty critical person, and I prejudge restaurants (and other businesses) by the quality of the design of their brand identity, including signage and written materials. So I was a little concerned by the apparent DIY brochure and exterior signage, and--when we arrived--the interior design (also DIY-looking and not in a clever way). I also thought it odd that the menu listed only one omelet but four Eggs Benedict options. Of course, excellent food can make up for such failings, but I've found that usually smart menu-planning and smart design go hand-in-hand. So, for our experience-- The young woman who served our table was friendly and accommodating. In fact, overall, the table service was good. I ordered the ham omelet with cheddar cheese instead of the usual Swiss cheese. It came with cottage potatoes, a little fruit, and toast. Although the eggs were properly cooked, the omelet wasn't anything special. The ham was standard stuff, and, to my disappointment, the cheese played a minor role, decorating only on top of the folded omelet and not filling the inside as well. The potatoes and fruit were okay (although the potatoes might have cooked more evenly if they'd been cut more uniformly). The toasted bread seemed like store-bought, and the jam was little Smucker's packets. As for my husband, he would have liked his breakfast burrito to have far less of the potatoes and more of the egg. I suspect that the nice folks who run this restaurant believe they are much more sophisticated than they really are. Essentially, it was home-style cooking and nothing more--which will be just fine for many customers. read more

We were delighted with our breakfast both mornings at BSB and would recommend the place for the veggie scramble, biscuits and burrito. The view is fabulous and you really experience Morro Bay there. As the ruggedly simple yet sophisticated sybaritic man known as Ron Swanson once said, "I'm a simple man. I like pretty dark haired women and breakfast foods." I share Ron Swanson's affection for the dark haired ladies (my girlfriend is one) and breakfast foods; thus, I'm quite picky when it comes to my breakfast dishes. With a myriad of delis serving a wide variety of breakfast dishes, I like classics with a creative twist. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Blue Skye Cafe for sticking to the classics without the ostentatiousness, which I'm sure happens to restaurants in an area saturated with tourism. When I arrived, the waitress greeted us from behind the bar and I automatically felt welcomed. We were told to seat ourselves, which obviously led us to select the table next to the window in order to catch a view of the bay. The restaurant is located within a cluster of other businesses that makes it a hidden treasure. The waitress gave us our menu and told us about the specials. After she said, "our lunch specials are..." I automatically stopped paying attention because I came for breakfast. I'm sure the lunch specials were great, but gee golly willickers I wanted breakfast!! (excuse my language) I looked at the menu which looked standard, but then I saw their Benedicts section that led to a raised eyebrow and a half grin. I looked and immediately went for the Country Benedict with a side of apple smoked bacon while my girlfriend decided on the Classic Ham Omelette with a glass of apple juice. I waited patiently for my dish; I was picturing what Eggs Benedict will look like covered in gravy. It took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. When my dish was placed in front of me, it was like I'm imagine: White gravy with steam rising and bits of sausages seeping to the surface. Let me tell you that it was absolutely divine! The gravy was warm; the sausage patty was moist and succulent; the egg was poached to perfection; and the country potatoes were crispy but not overcooked. It was so good my girlfriend began to regret her decision (not that her dish was bad, it was that mine was better). Simply a delicious meal. The wait staff treated us kindly: They checked on us, but weren't intrusive or overbearing. The service matched the food. I'm looking forward to returning to Morro Bay and eating at The Blue Skye Coastal Cafe. I recommend everyone do the same. read more

We decided to sit inside. It took a while to just get drinks. Once we put an order we waited 45 mins only to find out that our server never put the order in. It's his first day but still. This place left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Food was over priced and the inside of the restaurant was dirty and had the smell of a cleaning closet. Maybe it was my fault for sitting inside. The outside area was nice and had great views of the bay, but it was too crowded for my taste. I ordered the grilled salmon and salad. The salad greens were old and unimpressive. The salmon was like the kind you get in the freezer section of Food 4 Less. Next time I'm in the area, I'll stick to Taco Temple or Windows on the Water. read more

First off: GET THE LOBSTER BISQUE. It is amazing. I got the clam chowder, which according to the menu is award-winning, and it is very good indeed. But my companion got the lobster bisque and it KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF. Seriously. It is a can't-miss on this menu. Also ordered the salmon, which was fresh and delicious, and came with a baked potato and side of veg that were very tasty. I really appreciate a restaurant that takes care to make sure that the vegetable side is just as good as the main courses, and this certainly was. The view from the outdoor seating is incredible with the sun setting over Morro Bay. We were there throughout sunset, and watched the sun dip slowly down behind the horizon until we were sitting under the patio lights - very romantic and very lovely. Finally, I must mention the wait staff, who were so friendly and helpful. Our waiter gave us some great suggestions on the menu when our first choices weren't available (we arrived only half an hour before the restaurant closed) and reassured us at length that it was okay to order dessert even though the restaurant had actually closed by the time we got to that course. So obviously we did order dessert - apple pie a la mode - and it was just as fantastic as everything else. A great ending to a great day. read more

We walked up to this bistro due to the live music we heard. They had a couple menus out on a pedestal to look at. The food we saw people eating looked good. We opened the menus on display to find that they haven't cleaned them in quite some time. Food chunks, some kind of slightly chunky liquid was stuck inbetween the plastic and paper. There was a page with actual sea bird dropping gooed on it. Gross I called a supervisor over and explained nicer about heir display menus and showed him how dirty they were with food and bird crap on the pages. He didn't even blink an eye and gave immediate excuses like they're on the beach. He made no effort and took no responsibility to clean them. We told him why were were leaving and he seemed bothered by my criticism. Goodbye Response: the food may be good and that's not the issue. The food, bird dropping, and sticky stuff o the menu was there for more than a week, at least. I'm sorry but, if there is a cleaning schedule, they aren't following it. That's not really the biggest issue. The biggest issue is that the manager addressed this as if we were making too big a deal of it. The way he looked and spoke with us displayed that. There was no misunderstanding as I'm a teacher and decipher 150 students reactions daily for years. I didn't misread him. The proper response would have been to immediately apologize and immediately have someone clean it right away. He did not as we came back to see 1 hour later just bc we were curious. The last thing he should have done was provide an excuse that he thought justified the mess. It was not context ma'am. We provided good criticism that would help w sales as most people say nothing and leave. Please, take a poll of Yelpers and tell them your menus have food for over a week and bird dropping etc and then ask how they feel about eating there when they don't see the kitchen. You also provided an excuse for the supervisor just like he did to us. And so it contours without resolve. read more

The service there is poor, when we asked for refill on our drinks the workers would fake smile and turn their head and called my mom a bitch. We went ahead and got up to leave and one of the workers said to us "go back to the fucking valley" the owner was there and said nothing, not even a apology. Went here with my wife and two little doggies.(Dog friendly) It had good prices, great happy hour, on the deck seating that overlooked the bay, and we had a great waiter. Tried this on recommendation of Yelp contributors. I wasn't sure that a place right on the water would have good food and a good view. It did live up to all of the positive reviews. I had the Rock and my husband had the Country Benedict. He loved the gravy (and plenty of it) instead of hollandaise sauce. This was a lot of food! I only ate half of mine and my husband ate a little over half of his. Seriously you could probably share one of these meals between two people. Both were awesome. We went on a Thursday morning and got seated right away. Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. They had a great selection of jams for my toast. And extra points for the fact that one of them was boysenberry! Loved sitting next to the water and enjoying Morro Rock and all the sounds that make Morro Bay special. read more

The good: Their lunch food is some of the best in Morro Bay. Crazy delicious lobster bisque. Everything I've had tastes very fresh and well-prepared. The bad: Service. The overall atmosphere is unfriendly. I have never, and I mean NEVER, been to this place where the waitstaff has been attentive to their customers. Generally they prefer chatting on their phones or sharing conversations among themselves. Once I even saw a girl sitting on the floor behind the bar, furtively chatting away on her phone. Good luck getting a ticket at the end of the meal. Good luck getting a refill on coffee. Best meal we had in Morro Bay. It is tucked away with a spectacular ocean view. The clam chowder was excellent and so were the chips and guacamole. A lot of the other places around the Embarcadero are just popular tourists spots and the food was awful. We got seated right away, service was fast and friendly. A gorgeous view and delicious food! This place has indoor and outdoor seating, overlooking Morro Rock. During sunset, it is absolutely gorgeous. I had the lobster bisque soup that came with prawns and garlic bread--the special. The portion was very filling. The soup was creamy with great lobster flavor. Service was also courteous. We did not want any of the greasy fried tourist trap food offered at the harbor and were getting ready to leave when I found this place tucked in the back of the building. SOOO HAPPY to have found it: Food: GREAT. Clam chowder was delicious! They took the top of the bowl and turned it into garlic bread that I dipped and ate. My salad was fresh. We saw some nachos go by to another table and I almost mugged the waitress. (I'll order that next time) Service: Super friendly but not polished. Blue Sky Bistro not only has good food for our post-wedding brunch, but they went out of their way to accommodate our party of 14. This marina-side restaurant isn't large by any means, but thanks to there being a few available tables on the boardwalk just outside of the doors they were able to put the tables together for our large group without issue. Service didn't seem to suffer at all from the size of our group and all of our food was quite tasty. Personally, I had their The Rock and was quite satisfied. The dish my wife had (a variation on eggs benedict) was also very good, as were the breakfast burritos many of the others in our party ordered. The cheese plate they offer isn't all that impressive, but for the price we won't complain too loudly. We'll keep this restaurant in mind for future trips to Morro Bay. read more

Great breakfast here, though I think the prices are as high as they can squeeze from the tourist trade. GREAT location right on the water, and really good food by people you can just tell care about making it good. We had steel cut oatmeal with bananas and brown sugar, breakfast burritos, and the parfait. All were very good. Oatmeal is so frequently overcooked form sitting in cooker too long, and this one still had a nice round firmness to the oats. Brown sugar is more than ample for any palate, and bananas were fresh. Portion was great. Parfait was delicious which might be easy to do considering the abundance of local produce, but they still make sure to use fresh fresh berries and proportions are great. Breakfast burrito was very good, though it was a little heavy on the potato inside. Egg and potato scrambled together or filled mixed made it really good, and the guac, cream, salsa on top was good, but the potato chunks were maybe just too big, so the starch drowned the rest of the flavor out a bit. Still very good, though - would have been nearly perfect. Big, too. We had had a dismal service attempt the day before at lunch, but they were quite busy. For breakfast, the service was not only attentive, but friendly and catering to our satisfaction. This is SLO, so SLO it is, and too be expected. Coffee was good - not quite VERY good, but even a hint better than just good. Will probably return if the opportunity strikes. read more

I see other reviewers have had 'less than perfect service' from time to time but I just think that's what can happen in a 'tourist town' such as Morro Bay. It's really hard to find caring employees when there are so many service oriented businesses in a small town. Service was really good and our waiter was a super nice guy, and understood when we sent the shrimp cocktail back. (shrimps submerged in a tomato like 'Chef Boyardee' sauce I swear it was 'Chef Boyardee' sauce! (Yuck!) But he was cool and brought a shrimp cocktail with just the shrimp and real horse radish, with ketchup to make our own traditional sauce... Much better!
