I haven't posted on Yelp in forever...but I recovered my password just to write a review for Blue Sky after tonight! I called at 6:30 on a Saturday to ask for delivery ($20 minimum). The young guy on the phone was very nice and took my order quickly. I told him to please give a note to the driver to knock instead of ringing the doorbell because my toddler would be sleeping. He quoted me "within an hour and 15," which is what I get for ordering takeout during prime time on a Saturday. Except that the driver was walking up to my porch 35 minutes later, knocked SO gently on the front door, and asked how old my son was while I signed for my card. He literally whispered the entire time, so as to be as quiet as possible. And the food. HUGE portions of great stuff! I paid $21 for three items that will easily see us through a few meals of leftovers! They use the large, flat, square styrofoam to-go containers that most restaurants use (as opposed to the stereotypical cardboard Chinese boxes), so the portions are immense. We got combination chow fun, broccoli beef, and cherry pork. The chow fun was the best I've had and had a really great sear on the meats from the wok. The noodles had tons of flavor. The broccoli beef was really good. The beef was marginally better than what I've had at other Chinese restaurants, but the veggies really shone in this: perfectly cooked broccoli, plus sautéed slices of garlic and carrots. Yum! The cherry pork was sweet but not overly so, and dotted with maraschino cherries. I put some hot sauce on it to kick it up, but the base flavor was still good. This has become our go-to for Chinese takeout. I like the family meals as you get a lot for your money. Their wonton soup is my favorite! Shrimp fried rice is really good too. I normally order the cashew chicken and either sweet and sour pork or General chicken. I recommend the chow mein spicy style. Also they are serious about safety in regards to Covid! We pick up twice per month. Prior to them Silver Dragon in Fair Oaks was my favorite, still hoping they open their new location, but this place is definitely equivalent in quality! read more

Definitely a mom & pop shop. Such a small space. Walking in during lunch hour can be a bit intimidating due to it being the only Chinese restaurant on the block. 4 stars for the taste. The food here is delicious!! We ordered the lunch special dishes( fish fillet w/ black bean sauce w/ chow mein) & ( sweet & sour pork w/ fried rice) comes with soup of the house & egg rolls & they also do half & half chow mien & friend rice if wanted. Really great flavors. Definitely an authentic taste. The only down side is the decor and feel. Lights are very dim. Lamps are out dated and dusty, boxes of soda and supplies out in the dinning area. Music is very low. One waiter. All in all we love our dishes & enjoyed our lunch. We'll be back(; We also ordered their crispy chicken wings! Really good. Must try. read more

I just moved into the area. Looking for a good Chinese food place in my area, we came across Blue Sky. We tried it and it was just ok to me. We ordered a lot of food. Spring Rolls, Veggie Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, MooShoo Pork, and Kung Pao Chicken. The spring rolls and rice were pretty good. The MooShoo was ok, but maybe just not prepared the way I am used to. The Kung Pao was too salty and the Sweet and Sour didn't have much flavor. The restaurant was empty on a weekend, so I'm not sure what that says. The reviews seemed to be good. I think I will keep looking. read more

First time we came to Blue Sky we walked in, looked around, turned and walked out. The little strip mall restaurant was not what we expected. This restaurant has three tables and is small! There wasn't anyone within eyeshot. While sitting in the parking lot looking online for somewhere else to eat, we noticed an incredible amt of people picking up food to go. After about the 8-9th person we decided to give it a try, all those people couldn't be wrong. When we walked in we were greeted by a pleasant lady. We sat at a table and immediately noticed how clean the table was, that was going to be the deciding factor if we were staying. Can't tell you how impressed we were so far. We were served water and our order was taken, by the nice lady. She is so friendly she makes you feel like you are longtime friends. Everything we ordered arrived hot and delicious! We have returned four times. We don't live nearby, but this is by far our go to Chinese restaurant! Do yourself a favor, and try Blue Sky. I am sure you too will become a regular. read more

Everything was pretty tasty! I wish there would have been water chestnuts in some of the dishes. The wonton soup waa different than I am use to but it was still really good. I usually get the lunch specials but decided to try some new items on the menu. Plus there is no lunch specials on the weekend so i had to lol. I had the chicken wings and the BBQ pork spare ribs. Man the chicken wings were bad. No flavor at all. The BBQ pork spare ribs were so salty I barely could eat them. The lunch specials is where it is at. I ordered shrimp fried rice. The shrimp was cooked just right- in terms of flavor and texture. The rice was starchy so it was a bit gummy/sticky texture. The peas weren't cooked all the way...not sure how to describe that taste...but it was the worst part of the dish. I actually really like this place. Its nothing fancy. Its about as basic as it gets as far as ambiance. But what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in cleanliness and food quality. This is a small family run business. They care about making sure the food comes out hot and fresh and that all their customers are happy. Anytime I'm in the area (I'm from SoCal), I make effort to eat here! Their food is absolutely delicious and I'm sure they cook with really great quality and clean ingredients because I've never gotten sick eating here AT ALL! So far, I've liked every dish I have ordered. It's definitely my favorite restaurant that serves Chinese cuisine. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. My family went to Blue Sky for dinner. My parents live nearby but had never been there before. It seems very popular, all the tables were taken and there was a wait at 6:30, and a steady stream of delivery services picking up food. We all agreed we would return here. We got cream cheese rangoons (free with a coupon on their site), prawns with snow peas, bbq pork with vegetables, chicken egg foo young, broccoli beef, General Tso's chicken, combination fried rice. Everything seemed to have the same brown sauce on it, but it was tasty and satisfied our craving. The vegetables were fresh too. My favorites were the General Tso's and broccoli beef. The service was very slow because it was so busy. They could use more help during the dinner rush. read more

Recently we gave it another shot & it was much better than expected, we even ordered again since then. Driver was decently quick w/ delivery & food was still hot. Price is very reasonable. Cons: Would like to see more authentic dishes. Tired of seeing the same versions of the same dishes, but w/ just different meat. I was really disappointed by this place. My friend and I were trying to find the "best" Chinese food we could find in the area and this place got mostly good reviews so we chose Blue Sky. We both got the "personal" dinners: an entree as well as soup of the day, appetizer of the day, and steamed rice. We both got hot and sour soup. It was probably the worst hot and sour soup I've had. We could tell off the bat it wasn't going to be too great because the liquid was much clearer than in other versions. It tasted like plain broth. It was not appetizing. The egg rolls were similarly disappointing. My entree, the honey walnut chicken was fairly good, though I've never had a version of that dish that was fried, as this one was. I really like that dish so I've had it at lots of other places and I much prefer it un-fried. My friend got beef chow mein and he didn't care for that. The other thing that will keep us from coming back is the service. The main waitress was really nice. She caught some things that the guy missed. He brought our egg rolls out but didn't bring sweet and sour sauce. She noticed that right away and told him to get some for us. She was very good. This guy though! I don't think he was an actual waiter. He seemed like he was just helping out, but he wasn't actually doing much. Most of the time he sat right in the dining room at a table doing stuff on his phone. My friend's water was out for most of our meal and nobody came to refill it. When that guy finally got up with a pitcher of water, he walked right by our table saying "You guys are O.K." My friend had to stop him to get water and then the water he got was lukewarm with no ice. The thing is, I could see that if you just had the great waitress and you had other soups and entrees, this might be a good place for you. Maybe you might have a better experience than we did. I always come to this place to take out war wonton soup in the winter time. Their portions are always double what I get at other restaurants. The meet is good in the soup and so are the wontons and vegetables. Absolutely LOVE Blue Sky! We've had almost everything on the menu at least once, with some favorites being House Chow Mein, House Fried Rice and the ever special Wor Wonton Soup. The Orange Chicken is something special and much, MUCH better than anything at Panda Express. Service is always great, with Ava leading the way. She makes sure your order is right the first time and is willing make things right if it is not. The restaurant usually shuts down for a small summer vacation, which is a tough time in the house because if a carving for BS hits, it will have to be scratched once it reopens. Best take out casual Chinese I have found in Sac to date. We got take out that included the house chow mein, oyster sauce beef, vegetarinan mu sh, and sweet and sour pork. all this for $25 and the portions were huge. The meat was tender and not touch like we have had in so many other places and the vegetables were plentiful and fresh (not frozen).
