Years ago when I was stationed in Taegu, Korea I used to go down town to this restaurant which served one thing: Samgaetang (ginseng chicken soup). I knew it was authentic because the place was packed with locals and I'm sure I was always the only American in the place. I remember the huge ginseng root, distinct flavor of ginseng, the huge fall off the bone chicken, rice and some vegetables. So when I saw there was a local Korean restaurant serving Samgaetang, I had to check it out. Well...it was not how I remembered it. There was one small piece of ginseng in the soup, but no ginseng flavor whatsoever. And the chicken, well it there just wasn't much of it. And $19 is WAY too much. I was so disappointed. Also tried the chicken wings. Forgettable. They should go over to Bonchon to get some ideas. No flavor...period. I wanted to give this place two stars, but the owner was nice and service was good. BN Chicken is a restaurant a little bit difficult to find since they are undergoing construction on the outside but truly worth it! Their Samgyetang is the sole reason why I came here! They serve a quail size chicken, stuffed with sweet glutinous rice, ginseng, dates and other herbs - healthy and satisfying. My friend and I ordered the Black Garlic as well as the original Samgyetang. I must say, I enjoyed the original so much more. The broth (in Original) is so much clearer and lighter. The Black Garlic, on the other hand has a more robust garlic taste, which I am particularly not too fond of. The service was outstanding, the Korean auntie was nice enough to spoon us our chicken, and making sure it is to our liking. I would definitely be back and try more of their chicken dishes, the Katsu and wings just looks so darn good! read more

Not to be confused with Bonchon chicken, this is not just another KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) place. BN Chicken specializes in one thing, the Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup), a traditional dish known for its health benefits to rejuvenate and nourish your body. The menu here is simple. There are really only 4 things to choose from - the ginseng chicken soup, hand made noodle, a spicy chicken stew (serves 2) or the fried chicken. Their ginseng chicken soup beats all other ones I have tried in the bay area. It was very soothing and quite delicious. Perhaps a little too delicious. I am used to Samgyetang having more prominent herbal medicine bitterness. Not quite the case here. The soup went down easily and the chicken was very flavorful. You will get a whole cornish hen in your pot of soup. It was small but more than enough to feed one very hungry individual. The basic chicken soup came with ginseng, red dates, chestnut and zinko. The chicken was stuffed with sweet rice. You can also opt for extra ingredients such as perilla seed, black garlic or red ginseng. Keep in mind these are more for the health benefits than for the taste. If you are here just to get a good bowl of chicken soup, the original version should keep you happy enough. The hand-made noodle was simple but good. I tried the seafood version and I was delighted to find a generous amount of toppings including clams, crabs meat, shrimps and squids. Hands down best samgaetang in town. Pre-Covid I'd come here anytime I felt the sniffles coming on for takeout comfort food. Not sure if the ginseng helps with my immune system to fight it off or if it's the hot soup that helps, I do feel better after having this meal. There was 4 kinds of ginseng soup. BF ordered "Black Garlic" ... and I want to order something I haven't tired, so end up with "Perilla Seeds". Not knowing exactly what Perilla Seeds are, the waitress told me its like sesame. We were served with 3 banchans: Kimchi - excellent, very flavorful Radish - love it too Nabak kimchi (not sure if that's the right name) - ok for me Our soup was served pipping hot! And we love it that way. Chicken was very tender, sticky rice was well cooked. The Perilla Seeds has a indescribable taste, its not bad though. It made my soup a little too thick to my liking. BF's Black Garlic was excellent ... I ate a black garlic, its very good , not overpowering. Just 2 soups made us really full. Overall, It was a great meal. Korean food is more than BBQ or bibimbap or something spicy. This summer, I discovered samgyetang, a rice stuffed young chicken soup. And the four stars is for BN's samgyetang. The restaurant is small and the menu is even smaller. I think there were three dishes: variations of samgyetang, chicken noodle soup, and something like katsu. The samgyetang here is delightful, rich chicken broth flavored distinctly with ginseng and black garlic. This will be a perfect dish for a cold day or if you need something warm and comforting. The chicken noodle was fine and I'd pass on the katsu. The katsu was dry and boring. Before you go, they are on the pricey side. Also, you get only 3 side dishes, spicy red kimchi, fresh, white kimchi and radish kimchi. You don't get all the other sides that you would normally get at typical Korean restaurants. Also, the food tends to be on the less salty side so I suggest you ask for some salt on the side to add to your broth. read more

All they did was just told me the Samgyetang is sold out and after I ask why I wasn't informed they simply said "I apologize, okay? I'm busy!" then head back straight to the kitchen. From the ashes of the old Juicy Burger, a new specialty Korean restaurant has emerged. Now I've had my share of Korean food but I was not familiar with these specific types of chicken soups and stews. Looking at the prices and pictures I'd guessed that some of the items might have been rather large, so I went for the seafood soup with handmade noodles. Tasty but light broth, shrimp, clams, squid and fish meatballs with various veggies like mushrooms, carrots and some sort of squash. I've been looking around the Bay Area for good kalguksu, so I ordered the chicken recommended by the waitress. Unfortunately, I'm currently sick and couldn't really taste too much of the chicken broth. However, the noodles were extremely smooth and reminded me of what I had when I was in Korea, and the dish itself was what I needed after a strenuous workout on a rainy day. I'll definitely need to come back when I can actually taste to try the seafood kalguksu and the samgyetang. The black garlic is too sweet for my taste. The only thing is one of the cups we got had a lipstick stain.... BLACK GARLIC SAMGYETANG GET IN MY BELLYYYY! BN Chicken is known for the samgyetang and as with any specialized place the menu is limited to a few items, but all executed well. The black garlic samgyetang is my favorite (it's the regular with pieces of black garlic served on the side), but I've also tried their spicy chicken and fried chicken wings and they're also good. The spicy chicken is huge and can feed about 3-4 people if you're ordering another dish. The fried chicken is plain, but sometimes simple is better! Came here with the gf on Wednesday evening. We ordered two chicken ginseng soups since it's highly recommended on yelp for colds and the gf felt like she was coming down with one. Waitress explained to us that 1 serving is not enough for 2 people, and we reminded her that that's why we ordered two soups. What we got after 10-15 mins of waiting was one bowl of soup. Since this was my first time here, I assumed that they combined the portions for two servings into one bowl and served it to us. It's not until we got the check at the end of the meal that I realized that even though we had clarified we're ordering two bowls, it didn't get through to the waitress. The ginseng taste in the broth was very subtle and hardly noticeable, but maybe our taste buds are just used to bolder and richer flavors. Not taking any stars off for that, but what was a big no-no was the amount of blood and redness in the meat (I've uploaded a picture to show this). Even though the meat was tender and falling off the bone, it was disgustingly red. The only explanation for why the meat was tender on the outside, but red and bloody on the inside is that they use frozen chicken for this dish and don't defrost it enough before cooking it. Huge health hazard. Is this the norm for this place (and gets overlooked by other yelpers) or were they just having an off night? I'm curious to hear from other patrons that have reviewed it so highly. I would like to give this place another chance, but I'm afraid I'll get the same type of bloody chicken again. -1 star for messing up the order. -3 stars for the bloody chicken as this is a serious health hazard. read more

I had a decent experience here, but still prefer some of the other korean restaurants in the area. My friend and I arrived here around 8pm on a Monday. We were interested in this place because of the fried chicken and also samgyetang. We tried both and they were both okay, but nothing amazing. Chicken wings with salad ($13): This is pretty standard korean friend chicken, without any particular flavoring. The taste of the wings themselves is a bit bland for my taste, though they come with a pretty good dipping sauce that tastes like spicy ketchup. The order comes with 7 wings and a cabbage salad with some dressing. I definitely prefer some of the other places around for fried chicken. Samgyetang ($19): I thought this was decent as well. The broth was slightly rich though I would've liked it to be a bit creamy. The chicken itself was pretty generous in size and tasted fine as well. There's not many places that have this around, so considering this it wasn't bad at all. read more
