I had just drove from Reno to Orange, to visit my daughter who is in college, for the Christmas holiday. I have been dealing with a multiple miss fire check engine light, for almost 2 years. Two quality mechanics had tried to find the problem with no success. The long trip there seemed to bring the problem to a head. The engine would not stay running when i took my foot off the gas. Went online and searched for local repair shops. Chapman auto repair came up and had a large amount of positive reviews. Called in the morning and talked to Alan, and he said bring my car in without an appointment. Brought it in and told Alan there was a long story about my problem, and he brought Ronnie, one of the mechanics there, over, and i told him about all the things that had been checked and tried in the past. He really listened closely to everything i told him, and said he would try to find the problem. They had a lot of cars there, but were able to get to mine in a short time and had a good idea what the cause might be. Turned out that my 2004 Acura MDX with a 168 thousand miles needed the valves adjusted, and turned out to be the fix that others could not figure out. No more check engine light on, and the car is running perfect. Huge thanks to Ronnie for the huge relief of having this problem fixed. And I have been texted twice by Alan, and John the owner to make sure things were still going well. Great follow up and customer service. I now have someone that my daughter and her friends can go to if she has problems with her car. Nice piece of mind for a father far away. I will be moving to the area soon myself, and they will be my go too repair shop, where ever i end up in Socal. Not always easy to find a shop you can trust! read more

All I have to say is trust your gut and don't be fooled by the free services they offer. Free comes with a price. I dropped my car off for a free oil change and was taken to work using their free shuttle service. Before I was able to walk into my office I receive a text message letting me know that my car all of a sudden didn't want to start. That the battery had died and that it would cost over 200 to get it replaced. This upset me because my car never gave me trouble. I called them to tell them how concerned I was since my car was running fine. I asked them to jump start my car so that I can drive it off the lot. When I arrived they pulled my car up to the entrance of the shop and turned the car off. If the car was really having trouble starting then why was it turned off before I was able to drive it off the lot? Needless to say, I was able to start my car without any trouble. I declined their offer for replacing my battery and instead took my car somewhere else for service at a more reasonable cost. I am definitely not coming back and have warned my friends and coworkers about this place. I will say though that this made a great story and my friends and coworkers got a kick out of this! I have been bringing my Smart Car here for several years now and I am very pleased that they have been able to service it. They have always taken great care of my little Smartie. Last week my check engine light came on and after researching on line it stated it could be due to the gas cap not being securely on and I went out and checked and yes this was the case but it didn't clear the light. I took my car in and explained what happened with the gas cap and the check engine light and to have my oil changed. The long and the short of it was I was charged to for an engine diagnostic check for the check engine light and nothing was wrong as I told them the gas cap was not on. I wasn't too happy about this and John the owner was gone for the day. The next day I spoke to John he apologized for this sent me a check for the full charge and a $50.00 coupon for my next visit. Went here for the first time today. I saw the yelp reviews and decided to try it out. I needed an oil change and I usually go to the drive thru oil change spots but decided to try something else since those are always so expensive. The moment I drove up I was helped and told where to park my car. I went inside and waited. They told me it was going to be about 45 minutes. I wasn't bummed out since they have WiFi, drinks and snacks in the waiting room. The people working also make an effort to talk to you and entertain you. I ended up waiting a bit more than was told but when my car was ready I was told it was on the house because of the wait. I was so shocked and grateful. It was a really nice gesture and will definitely be coming back here for every maintenance or repair service! This place knows good customer service! I had an incredibly positive experience here. I got a coupon in the mail for an oil change, and thought I'd test it out. They gave me the oil change, and then sent me a report of their findings on the rest of the car. They told me everything looked excellent and that my car was in good condition. They even included a free carwash, which my car desperately needed. I really appreciated how informed they kept me while they had my car, the clean bill of health, and the car wash. Simply put, the guys at Chapman Auto Repair are amazing. I brought my truck to them a few years ago looking for a smog shop in the area. Everyone I had been too either wanted a rediculous amount of money or were rude in the manner that they went about their business. The owner here has told me that he was tired of seeing people being treated poorly by other shops and thus started this business in an effort to provide an honest to goodness mom and pop feel shop that didn't feed off the souls of empty wallets. "yah, o.k." Is what I thought to myself. Boy was I wrong, and in a good way. These guys truely are what they say they are. You are always greeted at your car with a warm hello and smile, non of that impersonal "bring me the keys and leave" kind of stuff. Bob and John have taken care of me every time I have brought my vehicle in. No matter what the service is, a simple oil change, a smog check or an 02 sensor, they always give me an honest price without forcing "unforseen" add-ons to the bill. They have earned my loyalt, respect and trust, so much so that I have all the confidence in the world sending my girlfriend, mind you who knows absolutely nothing about her except how to drive it, down there on her own without any reason to fear that she will be mis-treated. In fact, she recently took her Kia in for a check engine light and smog check. They informed her that the light could either be a bad O2 sensor or a failed catalytic convertor. They advised that she replace the O2 sensor first in hopes that it would fix the code as the alternative fix of the catalytic convertor would cost around $2000 (built into the headers, way to go KIA). She had them replace the O2 sensor and 20 miles later the light came back on. Sure enough, CAT was dead. They told her that a cat from KIA would be $1700, obviously not ready for that kind of price she told them she would pass for the moment. I called around and sure enough, a cat from KIA was exactly $1700, these guys weren't adding any padding or anything. Before she left they even offered a few locations as to where she could find a replacement part online for a cheaper price. Say what? A shop that actually helps their clients save money?!?! Yup, these guys knew that even if we didn't buy the part directly through them, that if they could help save us some money that we would more than likely be back with them for the install. Well guys, they were correct. We were able to track down a cat for closer to $1k online and recently brought it in to them for install. And because of their wonderful honesty I had them replace the recently cracked radiator the Kia had too. These guys are always warm and welcoming, they are honest about their labor and parts pricing and won't try to empty your wallet of everything you have. They understand that a business that want's to last will be friendly, honest and open to their customers. They treat you with respect as we all want to be treated. Have no fear in bringing your car here, have no fear sending your unknowing girlfriend or wife in with the car, have no fear sending your 16 year old daughter in for an oil change, these guys will take care of you and your wallet in the most professional manner I have ever seen. They are super friendly and honest. They will give you a free loner car for up to 3 days. I did not expect this. They offer excellent coupons on Angie's list. They offer financing on your repairs, 30 days same as cash or you can pay it out long term. They are very good about communicating with you and are super efficient. I live about 30 minutes from their shop and I don't care if I lived an hour away, this is where I would be going. The only reason I came here was because I had to find a CERTIFIED STATE inspection station to have my lights inspected and I have been in automotive for over 30 years and they tried to charge me for over $500 dollars to have them fixed and after knowing that my lights worked they had the goal to call me and said they did not work and when I said otherwise and I had proof they still held me for ransom for $265.00 to get my CERT for my car .-- THEY ARE THIEVES and because I was so upset by the way I was treated I OFFERED TO BUY THIS PLACE TO MAKE IT RIGHT FOR FUTURE CUSTOMERS after a year of so called SERVICE !!! read more

Had to take my van in for smog repairs at a state licensed place of repairs. After spending over 2000 dollars on these repairs, the vehicle lasted about a week and started to run poorly. I did not even have these problems before I took it in. The vehicle idles way to high when I'm stopped, sometimes will even shut off when I come to a stop, the oil gage constantly goes up and down and a loud rattle from underneath. I brought it back and after having it all day, all they could tell me was that the Mass Airflow Sensor needed to be replaced. I told Bob that they just replaced it and immediately got an attitude. I had to bring it back another day because they had to order the part. I brought it back and asked if they could check out why there is a loud rattling sound from underneath when I go over bumps or rough areas on the road. I also let them know that the check engine light was on. A rookie service writer names Joe told me that the rattling sound was my shocks. All 4 were blown he claimed. He also said that the shocks were a cheap set and needed to be heavy duty shocks as the van is a service vehicle. The other sound was the power steering. He state tat the gear box was bad and needed to be replaced. They did the mass airflow sensor and needed to order the shocks and other parts. When I came to pick up my vehicle, the check oil light was on again. Joe comes out and says that the oil light is supposed to be on, it is telling me that I need an oil change. Then he gets in and resets the light. What a joker this guy is. When I take my van back to get the steering an d shocks done, they tell me they need it for the night. I call and talk to Joe again and tell him that I cant leave it, he gives me another attitude and tells me even more lies about my vehicle. I call back and talk to the owner. I tell him how unhappy I am with his company and especially Joe. The very next morning, I get a call from Bob asking me if I came and took things out of my van after they closed. REALLY ?? They have everything locked up behind a gate. Someone used a key, opened the slider door, took out specialty tools that you would never know what they are unless you were my line of work. They didn't take the expensive power and cordless tools, they didn't take the bag of hand tools, they took a 43 pound press, lock equipment and video testers which they had to open the bag to see what they were. The doors were never pride open or picked, there were no signs of any break ins, and they were they only ones besides myself that had a key. Then the owner calls me later to blame my employees, that they may be upset at me for something and are getting back at me. Sorry, I don't have disgruntled employees. When I did get my van back, As soon as I drive out of the driveway and into the road, I am getting the same rattling sound. I immediately called Joe and he tells me that the rattling sound is a missing bushing. And not the shocks. I didn't even need the shocks replaced. It did not ride any different. All these Master techs still cannot figure out why the vehicle still idles high and sometimes shuts off either. When I called back to figure what we can do to get these problems resolved, I get Bob putting me on hold for almost 10 minutes to find John. After 10 minutes, I hang up and call back. Joe answers and I tell him that I was not happy with being put on hold that long so they can find someone. He starts yelling at me and tells me that Bob saw my number and the caller ID and didn't want to talk to me so he put me on hold. Then he calls me a jerk and tells me that they are done with my vehicle and I cannot bring it back. Then he hangs up on me. As for the old guy that drives the courtesy shuttle, that guys needs to be turned in. Looking at young girls and making the comments that he does. I'm a guy and I like ladies too, but will not even consider looking at a girl that is obviously under 20 years old. Not to mention the driving 35 mph on the freeway while everyone else is doing 70. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE THERE. I have filed a complaint with BAR and the BBB. I am considering filing a small claims case as well. When they replaced my shocks, they gave me the same shocks that were installed before. IF YOU VALUE YOUR VEHICLE, TAKE IT TO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR SERVICE. Between John, Bob and that idiot Joe, they are the biggest asinine people in the industry. read more

"Master Technician" .... I took my Corolla in because there was some kind of electrical issue (lights all over were acting weird). Battery was basically new. I'm not a car-person, Yelp had decent reviews: fine. They took me home (which was nice) and called later to say the Master Technician couldn't locate the issue and the current bill was $200 for his time -- note, problem not fixed. I went down and they offered to spend more time to find the issue. "Trapped" and obviously being had, I paid and left (should have just called the Sheriff). Another mechanic said without even looking at it that it was the Alternator ($185 parts/labor); great now I know. This is a Corolla, not the Space Station! They saw a sucker and rode me with "you have to pay him for his time" line and "we can help you find it, but no estimate available since we don't know what the issue is". Yeah. Not sure why others have had such great experience. I paid for a lesson in being naïve and trusting. Good popcorn though. read more

I first called Chapman auto repair because my ac went bad in my car. I spoke with John who was absolutely amazing and friendly to deal with on the phone. I made an appointment to bring my car into the shop. When I arrived there I was served by Joseph who was amazing and friendly as well. I was offered water and coffee while we sat and talked about what was wrong with the car. I left the car there and was called very shortly after to find out my car needed extensive ac work. It was going to cost quite a bit of money which I was not prepared to spend the money on at the time. However, Joseph offered financing to me which I was able to get and fix my car. I wasn't able to go and pick up my car because I didn't have a car to go get it and they even came to my house to pick me up. I would highly highly recommend this place to anyone. I was quoted a fair price over the phone for a clutch replacement so I took it to CAR, when they called back to tell me how much it would be the new quote was 1100.00! For the exact same job I asked about before taking it to them. The work was to be done on a 1988 Chevy S-10 Pick-up with 5 speed. A very straight forward job with great access to the trans for removal. When I told him on the phone that that was not what we discussed prior and he came down a bit, then a little more but the final number of 630.00 was still way too high and that was with me bringing in the parts myself! It felt like a total rip off, I don't know if they assumed the truck wouldn't drive or that the 111.00 diagnostic fee would be more than I was willing to walk away from but he obviously thought I was either Donald Trump or that he had me by the short hairs and would pay whatever I was told. I ended up taking it down the street on Batavia and their charge for labor?... 275.00! I needed a new flywheel since mine was beyond repair and I can only imaging what C.A.R would have charged at that point, D&P Auto was 70.00 for a new one, included in the labor to remove/replace. So for 400.00 I got the job done elsewhere, right up the street. Where they justified a quote of 1100.00 I have no idea and tells me they rip their clients off on a regular basis. If you consider chit chatting and a smoozing attitude a plus over quality repairs at a FAIR price then I guess I can understand the many good reviews. Me, I just want to pay knowlegable mechanics and techs a good industry standard labor rate and get an HONEST appraisal of repairs and costs. D&P has earned my money and my loyalty from now on, I suggest calling them for a quote as well as C.A.R and see who wants your business more. These guys were a huge disappointment. read more

Very impressed. My 2007 Dodge Ram A/C broke last week and I was looking around to see what mechanic shop would be honest, and not rape me of my money. I found Auto Repair of Orange online with good reviews, so I decided to let them fix my A/C. When I got there, they gave me the royal treatment. The offered me a ride home and when I told them that I live in Mission Viejo they rented a car for me for free! Joe gave me updates every couple of hours on what was going on and the progress of my vehicle. He gave me confidence that everything was going according to plan. I love the fact that they communicated with me every step of the way, so I can plan my day while I wait for my vehicle to be done. When I went to go pick up my vehicle, he advised me that all of the parts he fixed has a lifetime warranty. He also gave me a gift card for a free car wash!! As a member of Nextdoor Olde Towne Orange, I happened to spot a deal being offered for a smog check for 19.00 and I already had heard great reviews for Chapman Auto Repair and we needed smog check for car we are selling so called and John answered and he was so friendly and accommodating, made me laugh and more than willing to help out and when he said they were open on Saturday till 5 that was even better. I live close by and drive by here every morning on way to work and see how busy they are. I know they are honest and reliable from reviews I have read before, except I do have a wonderful mechanic as well that I just love but I will be back here I am sure, especially since they are open on Saturdays. Allen was great at front desk and Wesley gave me ride home while I waited for repair also needed, just a nice bunch of folks who care and are trustworthy.
