I've been here for several services. If you need a smog check or oil change this is your place. I'm not certain I can recommend them for larger jobs. Both times that I've had work down that requieres more than a day, I received a phone call hours before I should be retrieving my car notifying me that "they needed more time" yet no reason for it, I was annoyed. Like many people I adjust my life to get my car repaired. So I think it's reasonable to expect that when you quote a job at 2 days, 3 days, etc. that you take care of the work in that time frame- unless of course you're able to proved a reason why you can't. To me, this just seems that you were unable to manage your time and now you want my car longer. No thanks. After my last repair, there was some sort of ratttling sound- TBD what that is. I appreciate them getting my car in. What I didn't appreciate is the ongoing lack of communication. Today I brought my car back in, the guy said "you have your keys?" Took them and walked out. As I stood there waiting for him to come back and follow up with something to the effect of... we will look at it right now, we will call you and follow up in an hour... something. Nope. I had to go find him outside. I have to ask all those questions. Stuffing down my frustration because I feel at the mercy of this repair shop. Guess my choice is clear, move on. Communication is huge to me. Update: according to the shop- this issue was not due to work they performed. They were happy to look into it an provide me with a new estimate. Suspicious yes. Could it be an honest oversight, sure. Based on the questions I asked, such as "is suspension something you usually inspect during the oil change service?" I was told yes but they admitted they focused more on the water leak (I am reading that as - we failed to look at both). I would imagine you could do both. It doesn't have to be one or the other. He indicated if the tech would have drove the car he might have noticed the suspension issue. I was told my car was driven after the brake/water pump job. Hmmm which one is it? I'm done. Like I said they do a good job on smog checks and oil changes. Not good on "big jobs" as my repairs were referred to. read more

Question everything from this place. The front desk are a couple of nice gentlemen and have good customer service skills, however, with that being said... I was mis-quoted, mis-diagnosed, and misguided. Long story short, I paid nearly $600 for an oil change, transmission fluid flush, and a diagnostic to look into some sensor lights that came on and a rattle under my car. I paid a $120 diagnostic fee for them to to reset my computer because the lights came on due to a "voltage shortage" and the rattle under my car was my catalytic converter which also needed a new O2 sensor and "I will not pass smog with the current status of my vehicle". Their quote was over $1,000 to fix on its own even after I told them I had just got it smogged a month prior and that the rattle wasn't my converter. Fast forward a month later, my lights come back on and I take my car into Timmons Subaru Dealership which is a partner with AAA. They told me the amount of oil in my car at the time didn't even register on the dipstick and I have no oil leaks. What the hell Chapman Auto? They also told me the rattle under my car was the exhaust cover, NOT the catalytic converter (which I told the mechanics to begin with that it wasn't, but they didn't believe me). They misquoted me on the additional services because they forgot to include the labor, which brought my bill up significantly higher than I had anticipated after agreeing to the transmission fluid and oil change. Overall, I am sure they mean well, but my personal experience will not go forgotten. They told me to bring my car in for them to look at, but let's face it, I can no longer trust this place. read more

I had a pressure leak that was causing a loud "squealing" noise which sounded like a belt slipping. They diagnosed the problem and found the real cause. They fixed the issue the same day for much less than the dealership would have charged. The service was friendly and they have followed up a few times with texts asking if everything was still ok... Who does that nowadays?? Chapman Auto Repair of Orange does!!!! Can't recommend them highly enough. I'm so glad my friend at work told me about them. I had initially messaged them on yelp to get some prices for a 60k tune up. They told me its better to come in so they could check what I actually need done before giving me a price which I thought was great. I prefer to not get things I don't need done. So I went in Saturday morning at 9 am. It was my first time there, so I wasn't sure how the process was. I parked my car where it said to stop and get your mileage. I thought someone would come out and would talk to me about what I want so I sat in my car for about 15 minutes. They came by and took cars in front of me but never said anything to me. I saw someone else pull up and then get out of the car to go in so I finally realized I was supposed to go inside. No biggie, my mistake. Once I got in, I spoke to Kennyard. Very nice guy, listened to what I wanted done, gave me a quote and told me my estimated time was a minimum of 3 hours so I left my car there. Around noon, at the 3 hour mark, I hadn't heard back so I had my husband call and they had my phone number down wrong and had been trying to contact me but couldn't get a hold of me. They told us what the mechanic suggested and I agreed to everything and they started on it Received a phone call at 3 pm and my car was ready to go. They only reason why I deducted a star is for their high prices. I think they charge on the higher end of the spectrum. I am not very familiar with mechanic prices but my total amount came close to what the dealership had quoted me for a 60k tune up with ac recharge. I do know the dealership charges way more than local mechanics, so if they are close to the dealership price, then they must be charging on the higher end. Also they charged me $35 for inspection fee. Most normal places usually inspect for free if you are getting an oil change or at least put the inspection fee toward your service if you decide to get the service with them. My total came out to $936.43 ($901.43 with the $35 coupon I printed from their website). $39.95 for Platinum Oil Change, $35 for an overall inspection, $172.31 to check AC, $72.72 to replace Shrader valves, $133.14 to replace alternator drive belt, $222.02 to replace all fluids, $169.95 for fuel induction service (they told me i had alot of carbon build up), and $35.99 to remove/replace air cleaner/element (not sure what this is). Kennyard did give me a $25 gift card at the end of my visit which I thought was so sweet of the company to do that. Also on my drive home, I did notice that my car was driving way smoother. It didn't do that weird shake/stall type thing when it was red lights so I'm glad they told me to clean up my carbon build up as I think that helped alot. Overall, pretty happy with the service and the way my car is running. Just kind of bummed as I think I may have overpaid. read more

I brought my 2017 BMW 430i into their repair shop on 3/17/2025 for a "refill Low coolant warning light" They refilled the coolant and the light was cleared. Two days later the light returned. I took it back to the shop 3/20/2025. They told me they would have to run pressure test to determine if there was a leak. They completed the test and told me they had found the problem (Water pump and Turbo Coolant return line needed replacing. I authorized the repairs and paid $1,793.08. 3/22/2025. Two weeks later the same "refill Low coolant warning light" comes back on. I drive back to the repair shop 4/7/2025 and tell them they can take as long as they need but I need the issue resolved. I call 4 days later and they seemed to forget the car was there. They finally call me back and report that the total repairs would be $7,464.65 total. I go to the shop and review each line item. They then revise the necessary repairs to address the problem at $3,052.50. I clarify with them if they're guaranteeing that this is the fix. They say yes, so I authorize the repairs. They call me on 4/14/2025 that the car is done. The next day 4/15/2025 I get in my car to head to work and as I enter the freeway (55fwy north Southern California) My car lost power and a warning light reading "Drivetrain malfunction" comes on. I nearly crashed on the freeway and barley made it to the shoulder of the freeway. I was able to slowly get to an off ramp and into a parking lot. The BMW then lost all power and had to be towed back to this repair shop. I have filed a complaint with the FTC for fraud and have requested them to look into this establishment. This has been a complete scam for the repairs done to my car. I'm nearly $5,000 dollars out of pocket with no peace of mind. Lastly - if you have a BMW I STRONGLY advise to steer clear of Champman Auto Repair. I have never had a successful repair done here. read more

Kenyard literally saved my 2011 Rogue - I was told by someone else that the transmission was shot and based on the age I almost got rid of my car that was otherwise dependable. I regret bringing my car here. From the first phone call I should've followed my instincts and stayed far away. The phone was answered by someone named John. I told him exactly what was wrong with the vehicle and that I was ready to bring it in. He responds by asking if he can "give me his spiel" to which I respond isn't necessary because I just need to get my car fixed. He ignored that and proceeds to give me an elevator pitch about how great this place is and then proceeds with complete condescension and asks "Do you know what MANSPLAINING IS?", to which I respond "YES it's what you're doing to me right now, please do not tell me that you're going to MANSPLAIN what MANSPLAINING IS." He thinks this is the funniest response ever, but I was not in a joking mood. This was the most disrespectful conversation I've ever had from anyone in my life. I don't understand what kind of script this man has or is reading to think that is it anywhere near appropriate to speak to a FEMALE or ANYONE for that matter in this way. Why on God's green earth would you EVER use the word mansplaining in any conversation, especially when we're talking about fixing a car?! The total lack of respect was just incredible. Against my instincts I took the car anyway because they had good reviews and sadly I believed them. When we get there, I had over photos of the codes I had scanned from my car as well as the problem that the car had about losing power while driving. John tells me not to worry that "they're not like other mechanics and will never tack on parts or increase the price ever from what they quote." Fine, I leave the car. A couple of days later I get a call saying they cleared the codes and need to install a new thermostat the price was $560, cool, do it. In this same conversation, John tells me "don't worry, your car is in great hands, you should just grab a glass of wine, put on some music, take a bubble bath, and relax." I'm sorry, why are you talking about bubble baths and wine and telling ME to go do anything? Since when do mechanics talk to their customers about bathing or drinking wine?? And the insinuation that you can tell your customer what to do is outrageous. This conversation made me so uncomfortable it made my stomach turn and I couldn't get off the phone fast enough. But it keeps getting better. A couple of days later I get yet another phone call, this time it's another gentleman (he was actually wonderful, but I can't recall his name). The relief that it isn't John is at least getting me through things at this point. Nevertheless, the gentleman now tells me that they need to charge me a 2ND $120 diagnosis fee and now the price is close to $800 to which I respond absolutely NOT because they had already charged me a diagnosis fee when I left the car. At this point my husband steps in because of the disrespect I had already endured multiple times before and the finessing that John had attempted to do with me was textbook female mechanic treatment. As the daughter of a mechanic this behavior and treatment is just disgusting. If my father lived in CA I would've had him fix my car, but unfortunately we needed external help this time. After explaining our frustrations to the 2nd gentlemen he notes that there was a miscommunication and that the power problem was not communicated to him so that they would waive the additional diagnostic fee (thank you!). However, the nightmare is far from over. I get another call and now I'm told that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced so the price is now $2500+. Mind you, my car is only worth $3000. So, we started from $560 to $800 to $2500+. I Googled and found a catalytic converter for my car for LESS than $500. I asked them to stop working on my car and had it towed out of there the same day. This place is absolutely despicable and appalling in its treatment of women and people in general. The misogyny and disrespect permeates every inch of that office and I absolutely will never return. I apologize for not noting the name of the 2nd gentleman, I wish we could've had him handle our car from the very beginning because things may have been a little different. But even then, their prices are so marked up and unfair that it still isn't worth going through. I sincerely hope this helps someone out there because I rarely leave reviews, only when I've been treated this badly do I feel the need to let others know. As someone who's been in customer service and sales for more than 18 years I always hope to receive the same treatment I provide to my clients. read more

Took my daughters Mazda to the Mazda of Orange dealer for a headlight replacement (HID bulb which is hard to get to) They wanted $1600 to replace it. They said it needed a new module because chances are the bulb shorted out because of the module being faulty. So my first encounter with these two gentlemen. John and Ken, I think they are a talk show on am radio! What a great bunch of guys. It's like you walk into this modern looking shop with old school people. Good hearted. Full of information. Down right honest. Yet the professionalism is there. Excellent experience. Went in for engine whine. Bad alternator. Not a cheap repair but they are thorough and offer a 3 year 36k mile Warranty. Friendly customer service. Kennyard was helpful and professional. It worked out well my car was only there half day I dropped off around 11:30 picked up at 5. I'm sure I got lucky on that but still that is pretty fast. There's cheaper places but I believe with most things. They won't let you bring your own parts in even though they were purchased brand new probably from the auto parts distributor they use.
