To start this review off on a good note, the customer service was actually very good for the crappy situation. I went in to just get my rear breaks done because it was time and I was 100% putting it off for too long. I already knew my serpentine belt was needing replacing but I was going to get it done by a different shop. I went here because of the good reviews and I was quoted at $250 for my brakes and it would only take 2 hours. I was without my car for 7 hours and spent $600+. The man helping me was nice but persistent with trying to convince to get both sets of brakes, my serpentine belt, and my cabin and engine filters replaced. He continually mansplained the workings of the car to me as if I'm some dainty idiot. I basically built my first car so I'm aware of the codependency between the front and rear brakes. After taking 3 hours just to get to the inspection of my car and finally agreeing to only do my rear brakes, he told me it would be another 2 hours for my brakes. My favorite line he used on me was "Is there someone I can speak to like mom or dad?" No sir, I'm a full grown adult. Then along the line, my emergency brake cable was cut and apparently my damaged brakes are to blame for the further damage to my emergency brake. I have never been more pissed about a shop trying to get more and more money out of me because I'm a young woman who seemingly knows nothing. In addition, the employees weren't wearing masks when I walked in and only 2/3 of them put one on the first time and the second and third time I was in the office the man sitting next to the man helping me did not even bother to keep his mask on while I was literally standing right there. Regular bait and switch mechanic shop. I would not take my car there or send them a request for quote. They analyzed my CamShaft sensor position wrong and wanted to change my time chain for no reason. Wrong estimate, wrong diagnosis. They gave me estimate for $3000 to change unnecessary parts, I took it to another mechanic he found out the battery was bad, replaced the battery. The check engine light went away and all fixed. read more

I wish my review was better. My review is two parts. The first part is about their hospitality. I took an uber to the repair shop and wait for a tow truck to pick up my car. While I was waiting the staff was very nice and offered me complimentary water and snacks and to wait inside their air conditioned waiting area. Unfortunately I was waiting for a tow truck to decline the repair option they gave me which was a $1000 repair. My car had died while driving a couple of days prior. The mechanic said my fuse box needed to be replaced. And he found "other" things leaking which could be a $2400 repair. I decided to decline, because something didn't feel right. I then took the car to another mechanic. The other mechanic looked at it and said the entire fuse box didn't need to be replaced, only ONE fuse needed to be replaced, which he did FOR FREE since the car came with a backup. He then drove it to another automotive electrician who agreed that the entire fuse did not need to be replaced. So when all is said and done, I was pretty disappointed that Auto Repair of orange had such good reviews and I received such a "patch job" rather than a thorough diagnostic which I paid $111 for. read more

This is an update on my previous review. I bought an older Ford F250 truck after getting a pre-inspection at Chapman. There was no waiting. The inspection was extremely thorough and they told me the truck was sound, but showed me a few issues that needed to be addressed- primarily a leaking transmission seal and thin front brakes. They provided me with a printout of the results that included photos. I negotiated with the seller based on the inspection. Everyone was polite and covid-careful. Great experience! read more

Great, friendly shop. So hard to find these days. I took it in because my 2007 BMW 530i had a really rough idle and would occasionally stall out. I work on my car myself, and was able to diagnose the issue as a fried oxygen sensor due to fluid getting on the wire. Unfortunately, I didn't have the tools to get it out myself because a metal bracket was in the way for me to unscrew it with my O2 sensor socket. I called around and most shops didn't believe an O2 sensor would cause this issue and wanted to quote me diagnostics fees and replace the intake manifold gasket and such. But, Chapman Auto Repair was understanding, friendly, and considered my opinion on the issue rather than dismissing it. They went ahead and replaced the sensor with one I supplied for them and now the car runs fine. Super friendly people, hard to find these days. read more

Wish I could give a 10 star rating for Chapman Auto Repair. Never been so impressed with a business. Went in for a smog check off of a mailer and guess what happened...?? The price was actually legitimate.! They didn't charge me an inconvenience fee for sitting in their waiting area and the staff was so friendly I felt at home being there. This repair shop was so trustworthy I would go so far as to say, if my car broke down I would have no problem having my car towed there with a note that says "please fix" and never worry for a minute if they would over charge or do work that didn't need to be done. Side note, I own a BMW so I'm sooooo used to being overcharged it's painful. Honesty is a wonderful thing.! read more

Chapman students beware - their discounted services seem like a deal but they'll most likely find "something else" wrong with your car, even during a simple oil change My girlfriend has a 2001 VW Passat and brought it in for a routine oil change. $2,000 later the oil was not changed (it was bone dry after one month), her dash was put back on incorrectly, her check engine light came ON, her steering wheel was put on sideways, for the first time ever her engine did not start (about two weeks after the change) and her cruise control mysteriously started malfunctioning. But we appreciated the complementary screwdriver they left under the driver's seat. Basically, just don't go there. And if they ever say something else is wrong - check with your dealership first!! read more

I had my water pump in my Volvo replaced yesterday at Chapman auto repair. They had all The parts and tools needed-an issue I ran into at two other repair places. I even got a ride back home. I have worked in customer service for over 21 years and Alan and the team at CAR got it right. It was valet service from the moment I rolled up. They explained to me what needed to be fixed, (in a way I understood). They had snacks and coffee. They Gave me update texts for when my car was worked on, getting its quality inspection, CAR WASH and ready for pick up! I am glad I found a great place to take the Volvo into. They answer the Phone "happiest place on Earth!" The team there is so nice and Happy! The Volvo is driving Happy and I left happy. So I guess he is right. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. I talked to Ken over the phone, and he seemed really cool. He said I could drop my car off any time. So I did, and Bob took care of me at the desk. He estimated the time required at 1.5 hours, which was pretty long for an oil change, but I also wanted to get an estimate on some fender liners I wanted to have installed. I figured 90 minutes would be fine, if they are going to do that as well. Ken was busy with another customer, and after she left, he said "Crazy Bitch" out loud, with me being the only customer in their front office. I suppose they didn't think it would be a big deal for a customer to hear employees badmouthing people that give them money. The shuttle driver, Wesley, took me home in their Hummer. It was an ok ride until he rolled down the window at an intersection and proceeded to cat call a woman crossing the street. Again, it's fine on your own time, but be a little more professional in the presence of customers. 90 minutes was ample time to wait, as I had some work to do at home, but as time went by, I was getting more and more impatient. The time was up, and they did not call me. I decided to call after three hours (twice as long as originally intended). Bob answered the phone, and said my car was still on the lift, and he was waiting on the mechanic to give me a quote on the repairs I wanted to have done. He said he will call back in fifteen minutes. Some time later, he called back with a long list of repairs totaling almost $800, and he said he could have my car done within the day. No thanks. After waiting three hours for an oil change and wasting half my day, I do not think I will be taking my car there again. The oil change was done, so I asked if I could pick up my car. They said Wesley was nearby, so he will just text when he is close. I waited 30 minutes for Wesley. When I got in the Hummer, he asked how my day was. After explaining to him that I was disappointed because I just lost pretty much my entire day waiting for an oil change that could have taken 10 minutes at Valvoline. He apologized and asked for a second chance, then said "Oil changes just don't take 15 minutes." News flash - - they do. I understand that because I was only paying $20 for an oil change, that I probably was not high on the priority list, but MY TIME IS IMPORTANT TOO. If a car will take longer to repair than originally expected, it's probably a good idea to contact the customer and let them know, instead of having them call you 3 hours later. When I got there, Bob apologized for the wait, and just gave me a free car wash coupon to the Chevron down the road. Thanks for nothing. CLIFFS: - They didn't call me to let me know that my car would take longer, therefore wasting my day. - Employees talking smack on customers. - Cat calling shuttle driver. - They try to sell you on a whole slew of things, in case you're gullible. - They forgot to reset my oil life light, which now reads 15%. Now I have to check if they really did change my oil or not. Total time for an oil change and quote to have some plastics installed: FOUR HOURS Save your time and money. Find a mechanic that runs his own shop, instead of having these clowns play with your time and money. read more

I have taken my vehicle to this place a few times now. My first couple of times, I had a great experience and loved the fact it was close to me job. Then, the "suggestions" for repair began to get out of hand. The first time, it was suggested I needed a new air filter, which I had just changed it a month or so prior at a Jiffy Lube. I was quoted by Chapman Auto that this would cost me the price of the air filter plus $70 labor. I informed them that I just had this changed so they suggested I return it to the place where I had it changed. I did and I watched the tech from Jiffy Lube pull out the filter and examine it. This procedure is so incredibly easy that I will never pay someone to replace my air filter again. I could not believe Chapman Auto wanted to charge me $70 for labor. I do believe in second chances. Recently, I took my vehicle for brake service. Which of course, I ended up paying double for what I intended to pay, but the suggested repair was legit, so I can't blame them for that. But once again, I was given another bogus suggestion; it was suggested for the transmission fluid to be exchanged. They even sent me a picture of my "dirty" fluid. Three months prior, I had my transmission completely serviced by a dealership. I informed them of this, and again, they suggested I return it to the place where I had the service performed, which I did. The transmission fluid is not only NOT dirty, but the picture they sent me to prove that my transmission fluid was dirty was not even a picture of my fluid. Toyota uses purple transmission fluid. Chapman sent me a picture of pink fluid with a spot of fluid that was brownish. Two strikes....you're out! read more

This places charged me for services they said I needed but did not really need. Tires were recommended but even the paper they gave me said they were still OK. They charged me for an electrical issue that they were wrong about. During the time my car was getting fixed they offered me a rental care free of charge and told me I could return the car to them when I picked up my car. We tried to visit here to get an alignment for our car after getting new tires. We were told they are too busy and they asked us to set an appointment. They offered a specific time 2 days later. We paid for the expected service and left. Came back at the time they asked and they said they are too busy to do the work. Perhaps we could come back another day. WHAT? And what would happen then? They would look to see IF they could do it at that time. So what good is an appointment. They said they only have one lift and they have always have a waiting list of cars that need it. I asked for a refund of the money. They refused. So I had no choice but to file a fraud report with our credit card company who will charge them back and credit us that way. Can not recommend this place. They intentionally lie about appointment times and refuse to honor their own promises. We ended up visiting Big-O to get the work done and they did it immediatly and at a cheaper price than Chapman wanted even after using their $40 off coupon we got from America's Tire. --Additional info, next day-- The same representative that we dealt with at the time saw our review and called us on the phone to argue his point. Having the employee involved call the customer to continue the argument is not a very good thing to do. In their favor, a person identifying himself as the owner reached out to us and expressed regret at what transpired and assured us this is not what they want to see happen. He offered to refund the amount immediately, something his employee would not do. We returned the next day and received a check for the refund, but not until the employee from yesterday made a snide remark asking if we are going to remove the negative review. He was told that we will edit the review adding this resolution. Holding the check while asking that question and awaiting a reply felt like he was debating not giving us the check unless we agreed to remove the negative review. In the end, We have upped the star rating from 1 to 3 based ONLY on the owners quick and appropriate response. read more

I am still mad after like 7 years so i thought i should write a little something about it. I had a motor replaced in my 95 s-10 I got it back and popped my hood and had to grab my zip ties and start some clean up. wires where hanging everywhere. I drove it around 3-5 days then it was time to drive to Tucson. I was on Chapman about to get on the 55 north saw a lot of smoke coming out of the truck I thought maybe my truck was to low and the tires were rubbing on the wheel wells so I lifted it (airbag / hydraulics) and pulled over. I opened my door on the on ramp and there was a puddle of transmission fluid. took it back to Chapman Auto Repairs they told me that it was my fault because of my suspension. The transmission was only about 3-5 years old at the time as well. That's BS That would mean and lowered or lifted truck would go through a transmission a week. Thank god I was not in middle of the dessert when this happened. I got the transmission fixed and its weird I have been driving it with the suspension for the last 7 years and no issues with the transmission. Never ever going back. Don't let them touch your care or truck. read more

My son needed to get a brake and light inspection for his truck. I looked up places on Yelp and Chapman Auto had amazing reviews and it's right down the street from my house. Pulled up around 3:30ish, answered a few questions, the technician grab the truck within 15 minutes. Frank the gentleman taking our information was beyond nice and patient with us (we had a salvage title and couldn't be located in the system) offered us beverages and even let us bring my Son's puppy Pumpkin in to sit with us in the A/C while we waited. I have been coming to Chapman Car Care for quite some time. Yes, it's a little pricier. But I get a free car wash, a full inspection of the car, potentially a loaner, a shuttle ride, and good service. So I'm okay with that. Also, even when they have recommendations, they are just that: recommendations. They don't force you to do anything that you didn't originally ask for. Additionally, the warranties they offer for their parts and service are excellent. So I'm willing to pay a bit extra for what I'm getting there. I've had incidents when I've been unhappy with the work I've gotten and it's always fixed, free of charge. So I'll keep going back. read more

I brought my car back in 2011 for some simple work and the guys where great. However, this time around I realized better after being a manager for a car dealership I realized what level of effectiveness and professionalism these guys have. I have encounter many shops in the past and realized many things. Just like in food it is not about the main dish that you have to pay attention to. It is also in the subtle or different things that bring service to the table. The place was clean if not spotless, friendly staff, engaging, wanting to listen to you, professional, forward about your car issues and caring. The support staff was on the ball driving me to the free car rental, making sure that I got my things from the car, ensuring that they payed attention to what I was doing and even making small talk about things they saw. In regards of my vehicle. I had it checked by two master techs and 3 ASE certified guys before and these guys nailed it from the comments of the two master techs. They brought the problem to table and offer me choices. Made it clear why and even showed me Mazda documentation. When I picked up the car they also showed me the parts that they replaced and explained why even if they had done this before and gave me my car back washed and running as good as it was when I bought it. It was funny cause the day I bought my car I got on the freeway and did not realized that I was doing 100 mph until I looked down. Since 2007 this has been the second time around for my 150,000 vehicle to feel like this and I am impressed. I would recommend to anyone this place and would also recommend the fuel system clean up which apparently takes about 1 hour. An hour near downtown orange where you can yelp away at the great restaurants and bars before coming back to pick up your vehicle and yelp once again. In December of 2013, the dreaded "check engine soon" light came on in my 2004 Ford Explorer. Having some business in Orange I decided not to leave anything to chance and took it to Chapman Car Care on the recommendation of a friend. BONUS for me!! Kristy met me as I parked my car. I explained to her about the light and she reassured me that they could help. I left the car and within an hour they had figured out the problem. An hour after that, I was good to go. So I went to America's tires on Chapman and Tustin to get an alignment done, but was told they don't offer that service. I was then referred to Chapman auto repair of orange and was given a $40 coupon off wheel alignments. Checking in was easy and simple. Talked to a specialist and got the proper paper work finished. While that was getting done they already started to work on my vehicle. The entire staff also makes the environment very welcoming and very engaging. This is my 2nd time taking my car in for an issue. I called and they took me in right away. Alan wrote up my service estimate and there was alot wrong (which I knew). I told him I needed my car and 2 days and it was ready when asked. I think there were 6 major things wrong so I'm happy he put a rush on it. Wes, the courtesy driver is so personable. I went to pick up car John was the one who finished up. My car was washed and vacuumed. I was going to take car to carwash on way home but didn't have to. I live in the desert and could've taken my car to a mechanic there but Chapman auto took really good care of me and my car the last time, I decided to go back. If I could give more stars I would. From the moment I walked in these guys were very customer friendly. I had just gotten a new car and was making a sound. I dropped it off and they ran a diagnostic. Turns out there was nothing wrong w the car it's just the way the engine was built and me being paranoid. They even took me over to the mechanic who took the time to explain the engine and why it sounds the way it does. The guy at the desk was even nice enough not to charge me a diagnostic fee. Like. I have had nothing but good experiences at Chapman Auto Repair. The other day I got a lovely surprise after filling up my tires- a dead battery! I jump-started the car, and made my way to the closest place- Chapman Auto Repair. There, the guys quickly fixed my problem while letting me know what precisely was wrong. It was all very professional and friendly, and I was quite impressed with the whole operation. The shop itself is pretty nice, especially given the auto repair places I've seen (shudder). There's stuff to do while you wait and the guys who work there are very funny. It seems like a nice, family-friendly place, and I felt comfortable there. They also have amazing coffee. And free popcorn! It might sound silly, but I love their popcorn machine. Yum. As for the area, the shop is right near the Orange train station and down the street from the Orange Circle. There's lots of restaurants and shops a short five minute walk away and you can easily step out for lunch if they're still working on your car. I didn't need it in my case but they offer shuttles for their customers, which is very nice. So, yeah, fast service, comfortable setting, friendly staff? Chapman Auto Repair is quality. These guys are excellent Southern California auto mechanics. Update: Another solid car fixing at Chapman Auto Repair. I had a strange issue with my car, a random beeping sound with some stuttering at startup. I was super nervous about that since I don't want any issues springing up while I'm on the road. Brought my car into get new wipers and told them about the beeping issue, and the tech dude there (Nam?) went full detective mode, doing a sweep to find any issues. Lo and behold, turns out my battery was super close to empty! They replaced it and I haven't had any issues since.
