Here is an update for this review: John, the owner, saw my review. He immediately contacted me about the quality of service I received... 'Quality of service'. That is something you DO NOT normally get from the owner asking about. Normally, its silence, or 'well... what happened?'. John's first notification to me was to tell me that he was refunding me my money paid, stated that he does NOT allow this type of service to be had at his shop, and took action to ensure that it wouldn't happen again. John listened to me explain what actually did happen. He was as mortified as i was when I originally went in. John lived up to his word, provided me a refund of the amount paid, and asked me to come 'back' for any additional services because he 'wanted to earn my business the right way', and to earn my customer service loyalty back. I couldn't believe it! John's actions ensured me that any work that will be done to my vehicle, WILL be done correctly, efficiently, and professionally. His honesty, showed his integrity, which is, without a doubt, at the highest level. The difference between a 'Manager' and a 'Leader' shows here with my event. I was driving around and noticed this place off the street i needed to get my lights fix so i pulled in and joe and the guys made me feel really comfortable and made the process very simple and easy. Went in on a scheduled appointment yesterday and was greeted by an extremely polite and courteous staff. The waiting area was clean with complimentary coffee, bottled water and popcorn. Even with adding an oil change to my A/C service I was out in less than 2 hours. You even get a free car wash with all your services. Some services seemed a bit high, but most very fair. Also they have online coupons on their website that help as well. I would definitely consider going back in the future. read more

On June 30, 2018 I intended to post this review but decided not to after accepting basically accepting their bribe to not write a bad review for a reduction to their already over-inflated invoice price. Over time, my conscious has allowed me to go forward merely because of repeated negative reviews that ring true to my experience, and mostly to report an update. My son had his Toyota towed to Chapman Auto because the car failed to start. Upon arrival and explaining issue, he was'nt given a quote for work to be done or anything. They said something was amiss with printer or something so he let AAA take him back to work after giving them car key and cell number. Upon arrival back at work, he then texted me about situation with his car being there and no quote or receipt for vehicle drop-off, I texted him back and then phoned Nick at Chapman advising him to not do anything apart from the starter without first getting approval by me (providing MY cell number) since most likely it would be me paying repair costs. Upon running diagnostics and saying it in fact needed a new starter, he phoned my son and told him the car had a lot of problems and starter wasn't the only issue, that it needed codes set and an Immobilizer control unit and including starter/immobilizer, diagnosits total costs would be $2,322. Joe fast talked through the above without calling me as first as specifically requested, and went right ahead and ordered an Immobilizer Control Unit for installation in the car. When son texted me, I immediately within 10 minutes phoned Joe and said resournding 'no to the additional work' instructing only to install the requested starter. He said he would try to cancel the Immobilizer ordered based on my son's go-ahead alone but that we may be charged a cancellation fee for the order. At the completion of the work, Joe advised us that starter was installed but due to other issues with car and not allowing them to install immobilizer control unit that it would 'cut out' and not be driveable for very far. As we planned to take it to a reputable repair place in Brea and based on what Joe had said over the phone about it not being driveable, we phoned AAA to meet us there at Chapman Auto to take the car towed over to Brea Auto to obtain a fair diagnosis. Upon arrival, we were met outside and told who I think may have been a 'Lot-boy' that we were here to pick up the car. He went to the lot and just about the same time AAA arrived, Lot-boy actually started the car and pulled it up in front of the shop. We then went in to pay, and Joe who seemed embarrassed a bit, reaffirmed that though it started, it would cut out and not go very far. We paid the invoice and I basically scolded Joe for not phoning me first before ordering the Immubilizer to install and told I would be writing a negative review. He argued that he phoned my son and didn't think he needed to phone me. That's when he offered to discount the total if we did not write negative review. We paid and I followed son to Brea without any stalls or mishaps. The Auto mechanic in Brea examined car straight away, and said it's running fine and no further issues were observed and definitely did not need an Immobilizer control unit. Update; The 'REMAN starter' that Chapman Auto installed on 6-30-18 did not last, not ever for one full year. On 5-19-19, it suddenly went out and needed to be replaced by our trusted mechanic. They need not be concerned since I would not even expect or want them to honor any warranty on the starter since plan to never go back to Chapman Auto. They were slippery, dishonest and tried to prevent me from giving an honest review since it obviously casts them in a negative light. I hope over the year since they've changed some of their tactics. read more

I'm not a person that is known for giving reviews or writing letters of recommendations, but I have to send out my highest complements and appreciation to the guys a Chapman Auto Repair of Orange! I have a 03 Dodge Ram 4x4 Diesel. I normally do all my own service on it but there are some things that I can't do with the proper equipment or skills. My truck has 270k on it and the A/C failed. I diagnosed the problem to be a faulty compressor and replaced it. After replacing the compressor, dryer and evaporator I took the truck in to Chapman Auto Repair of Orange to have them Evacuate the system and recharge it for me. I was greeted by a friendly service writter Joe who review with me the details of the service they would do. With in a half day Joe called me and said the job was done and ready to be picked up. I picked up the truck and unfortunately within 2 days the A/C died again. When I took the truck back to them they quickly begin testing to try to identify the cause of problem. It took us a couple attempts to finally identify the root cause of the problem. At one point they had Joe ( the service writer), Jake (the primary service tech), and Gus (their lead service tech) all trying to diagnose this problem together at the same time. When the root problem was identified ( a brand new OEM evaporator core replaced by me that is in the dash) had a super tinny pin hole in it. They were able to provide me a couple options for repair. Both options had my budget and best interest in mind. To say they went above and beyond satisfy a customer is a understatement to me. I am very grateful to Joe Jake Gus and rest of the Gang at Chapman Auto Repair of Orange. I would highly recommend anyone, friends and family to use their services if ever needed. Growing up in the area, my family and I have tried numerous shops but these guys have the absolute best service and best intentions. They won't rip you off and they won't make up any issues. However, there was more to the visit than my truck being serviced. Called in, as my car was having a minor overheating issue, tried to have a earnest, open discussion with an employee(or perphaps manager). Said employee, displayed callous unprofessional attitude, will not be shopping here ever and would advise others to avoid). Fortunately I found an honest mechanic very easily following this interaction: Gave me a few possibilities why I was having the issue and a ballpark estimate of the total cost. Something this particular company does not have the decency to do. Do not visit, Do not recommend. Sleazy, disrespectful mechanics or management works here. I thought i finally found a honest shop With great mechanics! Turns out even after a few years & multiple cars to service , being a customer and even recommending them to people that obviously didn't matter! we finally had it after they "repaired" our car the last time! It broke down the next day and they took no responsibility for what they did wrong! . Not only that, they were avoiding talking to me! I guess times are tuff and they're even willing to scam loyal customers!Not only by half fast work but also by overcharging! people make mistakes everyday, they were not willing to admit to that!One thing i enjoyed about this shop was the vehicle inspections ! Which by the way was done about 2-3 weeks prior! Never were we told anything about our radiator !! They changed are water pump and the next day our radiator blew out!!! I decided to call another certified mechanic to get advice and quotes! I know it may not matter to them or effect them but you would think you wouldn't treat your costumers like that! They were trying to charge us 900$ for our radiator & thermostat! after they charged us 1600$ for small repairs ! Just rethink about coming here! My wife's Jeep has been having intermittent electrical problems (randomly won't start, engine shutting down while driving) and the check engine light has been on. We had already taken it to a so-called Jeep "specialist" that couldn't find anything wrong based on diagnostic codes, etc. and charged us for it. So we decided to take it to Chapman Auto Repair. We knew going into this it was going to be difficult and that there's a $120 diagnostic fee. This is our first and only experience at this place. We were helped by a guy named Kennyard. Up front, he was very courteous and professional. They couldn't find anything wrong with our Jeep. They told us we needed to take it to Jeep dealer for deeper diagnosis. The cool thing is Kennyard waived the diagnostic fee. We didn't pay them a penny. They didn't fix our problem, but they were also honest enough to tell us so and didn't charge us for their time on the diagnostic computer. We'll be back! read more

Best service ever!! Had to take my car in twice. They fixed my tires and my window. First day; I left my car their all day and they sent text updates to let me know how my car is doing. They also sent me a really cool rating chart that was a helpful visual. The second time I came; I had to go to work. They offered to drive me to work and drop off my car. Chapman Auto repair has some of the friendliest service and any local in town I have asked always refers them as "the nice guys". I don't usually take my cars to mechanics other than the ones Ive known for years back home. I needed a repair quickly and wasn't near my mechanic.
