I was visiting Houston for the first time and came here with some newly-made friends on a whim. I loved the order/pay first set-up; definitely good for big groups or people who want to pay separately. The food was fantastic: I had the shrimp tacos and a mango margarita. The tacos dish had 4-5 tacos that were well seasoned, packed with flavor, and had plenty of shrimp. The margarita was not too strong--just the way I like it! The crowd was really laid back and the DJ played some good tunes to keep the good vibe up. It felt like an authentic Mexican restaurant, and I had a great experience! Took a family trip into Houston to visit the Zoo and spotted this place and decided to get our dinner here. We were greeted with grouchy and rude staff, a very noisy and crowded atmosphere composed mostly of the employees themselves. I also waited about 20 to 30 minutes extra for regular fish tacos while my family ate. All of this I could have looked past if the tacos had any semblance of flavor to them. I wasn't sure about this place at first but I'm so glad I went! I had lunch here with my co-workers as birthday lunch for one of our employees. It's a small place, and it wasn't very crowded for lunch. The menu confused me a little at first but once I got up there counter, I realized it was like a Subway set up. choose your type of food (Taco, burrito, bowl, or nachos, etc), Choose your meat and just point or tell them what toppings you want. I had Nachos with spicy ground sirloin... and I lost count of how many toppings I had asked for. I wanted a lot! I was thinking it might be expensive since I had asked for so much- but when I got to the register, the guy only asked what type of food I choose (Nachos), and what kind of meat (Spicy ground sirloin). That's it! I had assumed you could choose just a certain number of toppings and then charged extra for additional toppings... like a pizza. But it's all the toppings you want. Fabulous! They used a huge stainless steel bowl to serve it. The nachos were so much I barely finished half. I added a fountain drink it came out to about 8 bucks. It was fast, fresh and delicious. I am disappointed and wish I could of just walked out. I didn't walk out because I am not from the Houston area and was desperately looking for a Mexican restaurants to buy some tacos for a relative at the hospital. Bodegas Taco Shop has unfriendly staff. They treat you like you are bothering them and with an attitude when you are asking questions about the menu/food. I give it one start because of their unfriendly staff. The owner or management should provide some training to their staff on being friendly to customers that go to their restaurant and keep them in business. I think they just toss everything on the same grill and go to town. The tortillas were like tissue paper flakes - and not in a light airy way, in wow this is hard and thin and flavorless. The sauce tasted more like a canned paste. The sour cream is similar consistency of melted ice cream - very watery. The black beans have the same watery consistency. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being Taco Bell, this is definitely a 1...maybe a 2 considering we did not find any hairs, fingers, or bugs, so that's positive. Bodega's does the Build your own meal concept, like Chipotle, but with more options. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared. They also have a full bar and apparently they were voted best margarita in Houston, by the Houston Press, in 2009. I have not tried the margaritas yet, but plan on coming back to try them. Came here with my friends last night to eat some tacos. Parking wasn't too bad even though it's in the museum district. I hope you know how to parallel park. The prices are reasonable I guess? 10 dollars and you make your own tacos. I got the pulled pork and the fried bananas. Pulled pork was a tad bit salty and it wasn't the best pulled pork I've had. After eating the food I had really bad stomach pain and had to leave. Idk what it was.. I've been here before and that didn't happen so I don't know? Extremely disappointed with the service here. When my group was ordering we asked for the chicken fajitas, and instead they gave us chicken tacos. Realizing this mistake we tried communicating with a server and staff who then told us it was coming. However, after some wait I went back to the server to ask and she started arguing with me on what I had ordered and then preceded to ignore my request. I understand that orders get messed up and it was a busy night, but to argue with a customer and then refuse to remediate the situation is unacceptable. read more

Great location near the zoo/museums. I love that they have patio seating, lines with tall oaks and string lighting! So far I've only had the shrimp tacos and fried plantains and I was not disappointed. I also had a cucumber lemonade!!! Seriously, everyone needs to try it! Indoor seating was pretty cool but I wanted to enjoy the breeze outside. There is street parking so you don't have to walk far after loading up on three shrimp tacos, plantains and cucumber lemonade. I went there yesterday to get some queso con Carne with chips. Had other errands to.run so when I got home my dip was cold. Stopped by for dinner with my 3 yr old. Excited to have tacos! Since I'm often sleep deprived, with little patience, and therefore easily bothered, I only review a place if I've been to the establishment more than once, just to make things fair. However, I needed to share a few things about this place that made me not want to come back. First off, we walked into the restaurant and it was spotless. That being said, it also wreaked of cleaning products (with a terrible flowery smell). So much so, that it interfered with the food flavors in my mouth. The people and service were awesome! We ordered fish tacos, and the seasoning on the fish, was too salty. They were just ok. My son was a fan of the black beans and cilantro rice. However, they were both served in plastic cups, which in my book is a no-no; because anything hot, in plastic or styrofoam, is an opportunity for toxicity. Call me paranoid, but that's what I read. Same with leaving plastic water bottles in a hot car - it's not recommended. I just wish establishments would use less or no plastic or styrofoam in general. After an exhausting visit to the Museum of Natural History we decided to grab a cold beer and a margarita with maybe some light appetizers. The atmosphere is energetic and the crowd was light for a mid day Saturday. We decided to sit t the bar and the waitress/hostess was sweet and friendly welcoming us to the bar. We ordered a nice frozen margarita and Mark had a Dos Equis that he said was served the most perfect ice cold the way he loves his beer. The food was inexpensive and fast as well as good. It easy to fill up on chips and salsa because it is so good be sure to be mindful of that. The parking garage is probably the best idea for parking as the traffic by the museum can be maddening and stressful so the garage (if not already full) is a great in and out option. Came here after attending the MoTown event at the Miller Outdoor Theater with some friends. Let's start with the positives: the place is nicely located. It's near Herman Park and the Museum District. I came here with some friends who visited before and they said the place was pretty decent. We decided to stop by because we conveniently parked right up the street. And of course, who's not up for a couple of margaritas after listening to some good ol' MoTown ? We got there maybe 45 minutes before closing (oops), however the atmosphere was still great and the team was still very nice and upbeat. The margaritas taste GREAT! This was probably the best part of my experience. The price is a bit high, but well worth it. I got three chicken fajita tacos on flour tortilla loaded with pretty much everything I possibly could w/ rice and beans on the side. Now, the food isn't anything to write home about. This may be because we came 45 minutes before closing. By no means is it bad, but I did expect a bit more flavor. Now, the main complaint I had was that the rice was HARD. Damn near inedible. This was the only thing that kept me from giving the place a 5 star rating. Also could be because it was near closing time, but I would still like edible rice! A friend got nachos that were very tasty, and another got the trucker chicken bites (???) that were to die for. Seriously. If you can find what I'm talking about, get it! You won't regret it. My hubby and I have become regulars here. We only go because I crave the nachos, hubby wouldn't go back if it were up to him. The staff is cool, but the manager is rude. I've been here both during the busy weekday lunch hour and late weekend nights. As for seating, there is plenty both indoor and outdoor on the patio. There is usually enough space that you can still find a table during busy hours. I like ordering their fajita plate. You have a choice of either corn or flour tortillas. I prefer the corn. Their beef fajita meat has a good flavor to it. For my toddler, I order their chicken tenders. I like that it's not too breaded. He seems to enjoy them. Dessert is their sopapillas. They're very good and crunchy. They have fountain style sodas at their drink station along with four options for iced tea which is a good variety. Their bathrooms are clean and contain a changing table in the women's restroom. This location isn't far from the Children's Museum. It's attached to a building that houses clinics and the like. Parking is on the street, parking lots around the area, parking garages across the street or valet if you feel like splurging. read more
