Maybe I'm biased since we share an alma mater with the founder, but I love these bagels. Compare them to places in the neighborhood, and I'd rather go here. The people at this specific location are awesome. Compared to the other places in the area, the filling here is much more substantial and better tasting. The bagel itself fits my preference, but I know others may want a bit more chew or something else. As someone that's had too many NYC bagels, I enjoyed it here. I think the Boichik in Berkeley with the bakery/factory edged it out though, although not unexpected. read more

Something great to grab and go if you don't have much time for breakfast/lunch! Boichik is decent as a standalone bagel, but not when compared to NYC bagels lol. They are so much smaller than NYC bagels. The texture is much harder and less chewy. The seasonal green garlic and herb cream cheese was really delicious on a plain egg bagel! I would 100% recommend getting the bagel double toasted. I asked for it toasted and it seemed like it was hardly warmed. The cashier had such kind energy and my bagel was served quickly. Snuck in for an early lunch just before noon and managed to get a seat and an unbelievable bagel. The Sunday special happened to be delicious, an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, cucumber, hatch chili and I have no notes, it was sublime. Updating my review to 5 stars because I recently returned for a pumperthingle bagel with vegan schmear for lunch, and it was delish. I absolutely love whole grain bagels. They're the GOAT imo, but I haven't found them at any of the other popular bagel spots in SF (think Schlok's, Bageletto, Bones, etc.). Also, $6 plus change for a decent lunch is an absolute steal! A small spot for great bagels in SF. I've sadly only had a handful of bagels from NYC (amazing bagels) and there's a huge dearth of amazing bagels in SF. Boichik mostly scratches the bagel itch. Small spot, with some spots outside for if you really want to hang out, but it's a grab and go place. The store has minimal room for anything apart from standing around to get your bagel. Counter ordering, with plastic cutlery and napkins located near the entrance. They do advance ordering online, as well as catering. There's merchandise if you really love them, and bagels to-go available if you want to take even more bagels home. There's gluten-free bagels available too. Staff was very efficient to get through the bagel crowd as fast as possible. I got a cream cheese chive and "The Classic". The Classic goes for $16, which is pricey and a one-off treat. Coming from someone who worked in a bagel shop as a teenager, I can't get over how much a bagel sandwich costs these days. I'm sure their lox bagel is one of the best around but I don't need to throw down $17 for one, ha. I usually get the eggy-thing bagel which is the perfect taste of egg with the usual everything seasonings. I'm always a fan of their flavored cream cheese (thinking of an amazing fennel one I had at their Oakland/Berkeley location) but this time, I couldn't resist the strawberry. So after seeing the reviews I decided I would give them a try. I was surprised they didn't have a jalapeno cheddar one since I thought that was pretty standard. I opted for the raisin cinnamon with the seasonal cream cheese of strawberry. The sandwich deal didn't entice me so I opted out. The bagel itself was 3.25 and the cream cheese was 3.50 which was more then the bagel? I thought that's a bit much and I usually don't get cream cheese but thought I'd try it. Both were good. As a person who is picky about bagels and grew up around plenty of excellent bagel places in NY, I think the bagels at Boichik are quite good. This is my second Boichik location that I've been to. I placed a pick up order here for a bagel sandwich via DoorDash, and my order was ready when promised, within 12 minutes around 11:46am on a Tuesday. Pickup was fast and easy. I ordered the Build Your Own: Toasted Sesame bagel with tuna salad, cucumber, and tomato. It came out to about $10 after tax, which is a pretty decent price for a sandwich in the Financial District. The bagel itself was great, and I was satisfied with the sandwich overall. This is a grab-n-go place with no indoor seating, but there are a couple of outdoor tables if you need. read more

Craving a bagel, I saw that Boichik Bagels was within walking distance of my hotel. I came over one morning before my conference started. I was really hoping that they would have breakfast bagel sandwiches with like eggs and cheese, but that was not the case so I settled for an everything bagel toasted with butter. The bagel had a great chew to it and good flavor. If I was a local and needed a bagel, this would probably be my go-to spot. It was definitely better than most chain bagel stores and comparable to some decent bagels I've had on the East Coast. My only suggestion would be to offer breakfast bagel sandwiches, and this place would be a home run. read more

I have heard so many people talking about it. On my way to work, I stopped by and got their daily special. It's delicious, but it's $17 though. I like how different flavors intersects with each other. You have fishy taste, interpolating with chive savory and sweetness of the lettuce. The bun is so good. I am not surprised that so many people like it. I also like how they bring it the New York style of it all. It makes people feel a bit less in SF. The people are helpful and efficient. I'm a New Yawker and an old Jewish guy from da Bronx and upper west side of Manhattan. I also have lived in the Bay Area for a few decades now so I'm aware of the void when it comes to stuff like bagels, proper appetizing (lox, white fish, sturgeon) and delis (pastrami etc)...done get me started...so when the New Yawk Times gave these guys stellar reviews a few years back we checked them out and they are decent for the west coast but seriously not NYC bagels. Stopped by this outlet for a bagel, cream cheese and chive shmear, nova lox, avocado, tomato (and lettuce) special on an everything bagel and for $16 it did the job. Bagel was surprisingly a little chewier than I would have liked. I suspect the bagel was cold and sitting around a little too long. Next time I'll toast it - which should t be needed IMHO if they are fresh and hot ! Glad these guys exist, easier than flying back to the hood. Decent and getting better. read more

I appreciate the two choices of vegan cream cheeses plain & chives. I ordered the everything bagel with chives vegan cream cheese. I found the bagel very dense, too dense for my linking. My friend ordered a bagel w cream cheese and added lox which he was charged $9 extra for so his bagel was over $14 which is way too much. Very limited seating outside. It's about time I customize my own bagel sandwich. Bagel base: pumpernickel, avocados, micro greens, and Kite Hill almond cream cheese. While all the combined contents went well, the full pumpernickel bagel was just right. I like how at least three people in Boichik are working hand-in-hand, both diverse and in good will. I thought the bagels were solid and I'd go again, but I think NY still has my favorite bagels! I tried three flavors: 1. The Nova lox bagel with cream cheese, cucumbers, and tomato (daily special) on an everything bagel. The bagel itself didn't stand out to me, and the flavor of the whole thing didn't wow me. This was also a hard-to-contain bagel so the cream cheese and all the contents were slipping out of the bagel. 2. The Whitefish sandwich on a sesame bagel. My first time trying whitefish and I thought the bagel was exactly what you might expect from something with the consistency of tuna. It was good as a snack, but I personally wouldn't crave this bagel. 3. The Date, Honey, and Tahini cream cheese sandwich. I liked the level of sweetness of the cream cheese because it wasn't too sweet and the flavors were subtle but there. However, I don't have a desire to return for this cream cheese so probably won't order this again. Store is conveniently located in FiDi and is right across from Noah's Bagels. It's clean and has some benches + 1 table inside, plus two tables and chairs outside. Mechanic's square is also right there with more tables and chairs, but given the area you might want to stick with Boichik-specific seating or taking your bagels to go. read more

Having lived in NYC for a good part of my post-college years, I can attest the bagels here are pretty solid. Maybe even better than what bodegas serve you in NYC; though probably not up to the level of those specialty shops/factories people make special trips for. Which, in California, means it's a pretty great bagel! Everything Bagel w/ Pesto & Sundried Tomato Spread: The bagel had that perfect mix of crunch exterior (after toasting) and chewy interior. Loved all the flavorful speckled toppings, so I didn't have to choose. The cream cheese was actually better than what you get in NYC, since it had that California seasonal freshness. Smooth fresh cheese, vegetal crisp pesto and umami sundried tomatoes. A great way to liven up your breakfast. The Classic on Onion Bagel: I asked if they could make this open-faced, like you'd have at brunch, but received a stern no. So I asked that they not cut it and I was able to deconstruct the bagel sandwich and then reconstruct the bagel as open face. The onion bagel was the good choice by me, adding some nice intensity along with the chives cream cheese. Normally I'm not a fan of tomato on lox bagels, but theirs was fresh and juicy and thin so it just worked. Just enough red onions and capers for tang, without being overwhelming. The lox was nice, no nasty fishy brown/gray bits. Only thing missing was some fresh dill, though still a strong showing for bagels in San Francisco. Egg Salad, Tuna Salad, Red Onion, Cucumber on Garlic Bagel Daily Special: Tuna salad and egg salad together in one bagel is an intense breakfast! I was hoping to try their salads, so was happy to see both were in the Daily Special. The red onion and cucumber separated the two salads. The tuna salad seemed to just be like typical tuna fish sandwich filling, but on a bagel, which is weird for breakfast. The egg salad tasted like chopped devil eggs and felt a bit more breakfast appropriate. Though the whole time I was really missing the cream cheese, since I feel it's so necessary for a bagel. Kinda like if you put hummus on a bagel, it just doesn't feel right. read more

I miss New York's Tompkins Square Bagel so much when I went on a vacation there! I'm glad SF has Boichik Bagels near my work. Although I couldn't find the espresso cream cheese anywhere in SF because it's Tompkins' house made cream cheese flavor, I really enjoyed the seasonal flavor today which is garlic green cream cheese.
