As folks have already said, the wings and batter are not seasoned so the are pretty bland, relying on the dipping sauce for flavor.Maybe that's how Korean fried chicken is made? I decided to give Bok a Bok a second shot, and it's clear that things can be better from my last visit. While I did skip that biscuit, I got the same thing I ordered last time, with two major modifications. One, I got the 4 chili spice sauce over the garlic, and two, they got rid of the "combo" pricing. Which was a huge shame, as it was a pretty good deal. I am happy to say that the Kimchi mac met my expectations. This time it was hot, with clear chunks of kimchi and a much more spicy and tasty cheese sauce. However, the chicken remains nothing terribly special, mostly bogged down by the sauces. The "hot sauce" was more vinegar than hot sauce, and the KBBQ sauce was mostly the same (and filled to only 50% of capacity in those terrible sauce containers). If my thought when eating your chicken is "I should make my own sauce for these", that's not a very good sign. Held back by the poor flavors of the sauces, but enthused by the better mac and cheese, I feel as though, perhaps, if you're really craving it, you can come get a container of their mac and be that much better off for it. read more

This place has been on my go to list since seen it on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. We just happened to come across it yesterday while wandering around town Capitol Hill. We decided to go in and get a snack. To make it even better there was no line! We decided to keep it simple and order a couple of chicken thighs and some of the kimchi mac and cheese. And of course we had to order a couple of the biscuits with the spicy honey. First of all the boneless skinless chicken thighs are not the size of the boneless skinless chicken thighs you can buy in the grocery store! Those things are huge. And we ended up getting a box to carry one of then back to the hotel along with one of the biscuits They offer for different sauces along with them and we paid extra to get two. It didn't take too long to get our food and we were very impressed. The chicken is moist and full of flavor. The mac and cheese is very unique and we both enjoyed it The biscuits are flaky and light You definitely have to give this place a try. They have several locations so that's great. The chicken itself fried is great. The Soy Garlic sauce was also very delicious. It has a cool ambiance inside, very cozy and small. So don't go in expecting seating right away. When I lived in California, my go to joint for wings was BonChon Chicken. After moving to Seattle, I tried to find a similar place and Bok a Bok was the closest I could get. It still doesn't beat BonChon for me, but it's pretty good. The wings are cooked just right for my taste and the Garlic Soy sauce I get with it is delicious. Coupling that with a biscuit is mt meal of choice for this place. Although I think I would enjoy it more if the flavoring was baked into the wing itself instead of as a sauce on the side, it's still a great choice for me when it comes to chicken wings. read more

If you've never had Korean fried chicken, and you're a carnivore, you might not be living your best life. Korean style fried chicken is double fried, or something like that, which gives it an extra crispy crunch on initial bite that gives way to extremely tender and juicy meat, especially with the bone-in options. It might just be the best way to enjoy fried chicken. I've tried this at a couple of places and while the chicken seems to be consistently perfect each time, the sides and sauces tend to vary quite a bit by brand and that's where Bok a Bok lost a star. Most of their sauces are in little foil top cups, like fast food dipping sauces or the sauce that comes with cheap pizza to give it more flavor, and that certainly doesn't do any favors here to make it feel authentic nor is it fitting with the price-point. Perhaps I need to try again-- maybe get a dry rub with the addition of a dip cup as I can see how this could potentially lead to endless customizable flavor combos. In my experience though, I prefer the wet wings that are so full of authentic flavor I won't need a little dip cup on the side. I really enjoyed the unique flavors Bok a Bok offers for their wet wings like the Fish Sauce Caramel, for example, which was a wet glaze, not a cup, and it tasted authentic and delicious with the subtle bite of fish sauce against sweet. Also, kimchi coleslaw is a very good thing with Korean fried chicken and it would be great if they would offer that here too since they have other fusion items like Kimchi Mac n' Cheese-- but they don't, so I made my own by combining the ginger coleslaw and the kimchi and it was pretty amazing anyway. Overall, Bok a Bok has a simple, no-frills menu without any fluff which keeps the spotlight on their delicious chicken. The dip cups cheapen the experience and make it feel like fast food, in my opinion, but probably also cater to the masses as the infinite flavor options lend an all-American vibe and folks with less adventurous palates could still find something safe and familiar while exploring something new. I appreciate the Korean American fusion and I'd definitely come back and try some more items on their menu. read more

This is my first time ever posting a review but I felt I really had to post this one. I needed to order lunch for my boss plus 10 other people for a meeting. He wanted nothing but fried chicken from Bok a Bok. He had never tried it but heard good things about it. So of course he tells me last minute, like 3 hours before the meeting last minute. I wasn't having good luck with having it delivered because of the hours for Door Dash. Jaclyn Wagner from Bok a Bok came to my rescue. She took my order over the phone, suggested what I should get for the size of our meeting. It only took about 15 minutes, super fast and super easy. I asked her if it was possible to have the lunch there by 12:00, she said she would make a not o the delivery driver. Next thing I know, it's 11:55 and Jaclyn is at my office with chicken in hand !! She delivered it herself because the other delivery companies couldn't get it to me in time. Jaclyn is a ROCKSTAR !!! Bok a Bok is lucky to have an employee that takes customer service to a whole other level !!! Not only did my boss LOVE the chicken but I scored a few "brownie points" for pulling it off lol !! Which of course I wouldn't of been able to if Jaclyn wasn't there to help me out.
