Bolay has been a favorite of mine since I first stumbled upon it in South Florida - I was so happy to see they expanded into Central Florida. Unfortunately, the closest location is about 20 miles away from me. I wanted to try the Winter Park location (been to the Lake Nona one before). The location is in a nice shopping plaza and there's plenty of parking. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Food quality is consistently good and I was happy with the overall experience. A Saturday night date gave my wife and I the opportunity to check out the good reports we've heard about this relatively new fast casual place located next to Sprouts on Aloma. A brightly lit and clean eatery greets you, and like many fast casual places these days, a line waiting to order. I find it helpful because it allows me time to figure out what I want to try. The concept is build your own bol (yes, not "bowl" - I looked it up) with a base, veggies, proteins, and sauces, and, like many other places, you can see the ingredients as you walk in line. Just a note in the freshness, several ingredients were refreshed during my short time in line. Tonight I chose the Surf & Turf, a pre-chosen set of main ingredients with a few options. The bol ingredients of black rice, kale, broccoli, balsamic mushrooms, and mint tomatoes were all cooked, seasoned, roasted, and / or marinated so well that I ate the first part of my bol without the spicy Thai sauce I had requested on the side. All the employees were friendly and helpful. On our visit, one of the employees assigned to the eating area cleaned up our table as we got up to leave. For beverages, you can purchase (not your standard fare) fountain drinks, kombucha, bottle water, and adult beverages. And, lastly, another plus (in my book) were the real forks! They allowed us to try items we've never tasted before! My dish was Jasmine rice, forbidden rice, Steak au Jus, Spicy Thai shrimps, power beans, herb roasted potato. I was looking for a place for a bit healthier eating and I found it here. While I know this place is similar to Fresh Kitchen, I loved it more for the forbidden rice. Don't get scared of black rice. Man, did Bolay make a great first impression! We were greeted and welcomed at the door with a smile by the friendly staff as we made our way in to order. The set up is similar to Chipotle where you order as you go, informing the staff of what ingredients you would like in your "bol". You can either get a small bol ($8.29), large bol ($10.99), or kids bol (4.99). A large bol allows for 2 bases and proteins as opposed to the 1 in the small. They have some chef selected bols you can choose from, or you can build your own. The bases include items such as forbidden black rice, kale yeah salad, and Jasmine rice. Some of the veggie choices include herb roasted potatoes and balsamic mushrooms. Please note that the veggies are seasonal and subject to change. I was super disappointed to find out there were no brussel sprouts, but I survived and managed to make it through the rest of my order. I ended up getting a large bol with hot Asian sweet potato noodles and orange basil quinoa as the base, smoky cauliflower and ginger broccoli, with lemon chicken and miso glazed tofu, topped with minted tomatoes and fresh cilantro. Then I sauced it up with the cilantro pesto sauce. All I can say is yum, yum, yum! Talk about a filling and healthful meal! And what's a healthy meal without a piece of sweet?? Atmosphere: Very trendy spot. Casual but kind of young millennial style. Pretty strange because I always look for diversity, and this area had some diversity. Not so much in the restaurant but in the area. Seems like people with money that are well off in this area. The music over head was a bit too loud but soft enough for conversation. Food: Outstanding. Not sure how healthy it is, guessing there is a fair amount of sugar in the sauces but you could eat Whole 30 here is you tried. Service: Great! Everything is soo good and healthy. This place is the bomb. It's in the old Whole Foods plaza. Currently, The Sprout grocery store plaza. Lemon chicken was little dried out. Teriyaki chicken is better than lemon chicken, hands down! Steak was perfect medium to low end of medium well. I added a Half Avocado and whole bunch of add ons. Steak and shrimp is extra 2 dollars. Five stars for Bolay leaving me wanting more! Upon arrival I immediately noticed the vibrant color scheme. Studies do show that this plays an affect on mood and desirability. And yes, I am indeed speaking of food lol. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The staff members of this store are patient and quite helpful, especially for those who are new to the Bol/Bolay experience. I very much enjoyed the lemon chicken, shrimp, sweet potato noodles, cauliflower, and the potatoes. There is so much flavor and seasoning, it's amazing! Also, the gluten free chocolate chip cookie was incredibly delicious! I cannot recall the last time I had a tasty gluten free dessert. Sooo during one of my many visits, I ordered a second Bol for to go (lol don't any of y'all judge me!) I find the location to be convenient and luckily the service is quick and precise. Honestly, not what Bolay used to be. Mediocre quality at its best. The teriyaki chicken was kinda water down, no char to it. The black rice was alright. Plus for the ubereats order, they gave me less meat even though both order was double chicken. As you can see the differences among the two bowls. If I was to describe Bolay in one sentence, I'd probably say, it's sort of like a Chipotle ordering style asian fusion restaurant with a "health" flare. They boast an all gluten-free menu which is awesome. Pick a bowl base (cilantro rice noodles, sweet potato noodles, kale mix, spinach, quinoa, white or black rice) then pick a protein and some toppings. Small bowl comes with one protein, large comes with two. I believe both bowls come with two veggies. And each comes with a sauce. I tried a little bit of sweet potato noodle, cilantro noodle, and a tiny bit of quinoa as my base. The noodles are tasty, especially the sweet potato ones. I got brussel sprouts and balsamic mushrooms as my 2 veggies, tofu as my protein, then added tomatoes and cilantro as my toppings. I dug it! I will say...I feel like they've snuck sugar (even though brown) into a lot of their items and I wish there were solid items I didn't have to worry about that at all with. It was a little tough ordering because of it. Also, none of their sauces were both vegan and sugar-free. So, the vegan sauces had sugar in them and the non-vegan, obviously, dairy. If you're going to boast "HEALTH," I feel like sugar shouldn't be in so many of your items. The employees were all really nice. I'll be back. And hope they put one in Altamonte soon. read more

A small bowl (plenty!!!) is only $8.99, large $10.99. I had a base of orange basil quinoa, topped with ginger broccoli, balsamic mushrooms, and chose delicious pork tenderloin as my protein. I'm a converted hater. This place is right around the corner to our house and I always wrote it off as poor value and that's simply not true. I loved the teriyaki chicken bowl I got and my wife is all in on the lemon chicken. You really can customize this to death and it's fresh and seemingly healthy. Lots of options/flavors to choose from and bases that run the gamut. This place rocks for kids too. To have a flavorful, well-cooked protein along with fun noodle is just perfect for our toddlers. I must have gotten the wrong thing or got this place mixed up with somewhere else, because my closed-mindedness was definitely changed after a great experience. I did laugh as I was walking out of the restaurant as a DoorDash driver drops some sort of red beverage, without cleaning it up, gets a new one (staff handled that really well) and then just peaced out, making absolutely no effort to clean up her mess. I'm in love! This quick service is awesome to get something healthy, fresh and fast or to go. You build your own bowl with a base which is either salad, cilantro noodles, or rice. Then you add your protein and toppings and sauce. I had the cilantro noodles with shrimp, tomatoes, mushrooms and brussel sprouts with the cilantro dressing. I loved every single bite! The shrimp was plump and cooked right. Everything was seasoned well and flavorful. The also have great offerings for tea and sodas, I would definitely recommend to try that out too. read more

These build-a-bowl places are really popular right now. They let you put a bunch of stuff on a bunch of carbs, or you can just eat a bunch of stuff and skip the carbs, whatever tickles your fancy. I'm fine with it. I came here for lunch one day with a friend. I had been to a place like this recently, so I wanted to compare. I won't say where, because this place was way better. I'm a recovering meat 'n' potatoes kind of guy, so I didn't do anything super adventurous. I got a base of Jasmine Rice, which is always a nice vessel for meat juices and sauces and stuff. Yummo. For my veggies, I got Balsamic Mushrooms and Herb Roasted Potatoes. Both were delicious. Neither of them are traditional veggies, though. My meat was the Steak Au Jus, which was super tender and the au jus dripped down into all the rice and got the whole bowl very au jus-y. Guess I'm not as recovered as I thought I was. I chose Minted Tomatoes as an add-on, which provided a nice pop of freshness and acidity to my very heavy bowl. And I topped it all off with a Spicy Thai sauce. I was quite pleased with my creation. I really enjoyed this place, and the size of the bowl was very worth the price. If you're looking here for something more health-conscious or trendy, keep in mind they have other stuff, too, like sweet potato noodles and ginger broccoli and miso glazed tofu. It's dangerous to know it's only 10 minutes from my house! Last night was my first time in. I said so to the lady helping me, who turned out to be one of the managers. She insisted on my trying everything (literally, everything) on the line to make a bowl that I truly wanted and wouldn't regret. I was full by the time I was done sampling, but still had to order. Obvs. The white rice is amazing. The black rice is amazing. The quinoa is amazing. I didn't try to kale, because kale. It's a taste I've not been able to acquire. I was disappointed in the sweet potato noods. I usually love them, but there's was a bit bland. the brussel sprouts, broccoli, string beans, and shrooms were all good. I didn't try all the proteins but I ordered the shrimp and pork and both were fantastic. She packed me up with noe of each sauces to try at home. I loved the yellow (carrot ginger) and liked the green (cilantro something) Everything was so good that I went back again for dinner tonight. Love this place! Fresh and fast-what more could you ask for? This Bolay is in a great location-Winter Park Corners. After standing in line to order (never slow moving), you pick your "bol" size. In my opinion, the small size is generous enough and the large size will give you some leftovers! Next you pick your carb, protein (additional charge for steak and shrimp), veggies, and sauce/toppings. The black rice is a must try, and their carrot ginger sauce is fantastic! I tried this for the first time during a lunch break and I must say, it did not disappoint! The staff is great and are super attentive too! Instead of a 4 bowl or 6 bowl a-la FK, Bolay offers a small or large. Based off of the size you order, you get the option of various bases, proteins and veggies. I opted for a large bowl that contained basil quinoa, kale salad (the random golden raisins were a nice treat), broccoli, roasted potatoes (which were delish!), pork and chicken. The sauce offerings at the end of the line were great but if you ask me the sides were flavorful enough on their own. Don't get me wrong though, I do like a great sauce! The only downside is that there are only 2 locations so far in Central Florida. According to their website a new UCF location is in the works, score! Here's to healthy options for eating out! My husband and I LOVE Bolay. The employees working are always really nice, the food is fresh and very tasty, and it's reasonably priced for what you're getting (they give big portions). It's our favorite healthy "fast food" option. The black rice and sweet potato noodles are great and I loveee their tofu option for the protein. My husband always gets their chicken options and he loves it. You can't go wrong with any of the veggie options they have either because we've tried them all and they're delicious. The space they have is also really nice and a great spot to eat a quick lunch or bring your laptop and get some work done. You pick your base, veggies, protein, and toppings/sauce. They don't have many sauce options but you don't really need much because all their food is seasoned and flavored really well. I always get the Thai sauce and it's very tasty.
