My partner and I had dinner here last Thursday night. I made a reservation, it was for outdoor dining but, when we arrived I saw the restaurant was empty so, I requested an indoor seat because I was afraid I'd get too cold outside. This was a huge mistake; they sat us at a corner table by the kitchen. Not just the kitchen we soon found out but, the dish washing station. It was so loud and obnoxious. Our onion soup and drinks were delicious. We both ordered the steak frites, my partner got it medium rare and I ordered medium well (I know, I just like a steak a little more done). My partners steak was raw inside, like blue. He was so put off by this he didn't want anything else to eat. The waiter could care less, never once apologizing. Our waiter in general was pretty terrible and inattentive and slow. My steak was beyond well done but, I was starving and it still tasted good to me. Then we asked for the dessert menu, our waiter went to get it, was gone for awhile then came back empty handed and asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu. I kindly reminded him that's what he was supposed to be getting while away. We ordered the Nutella crepes and our waiter asked if we'd like to add strawberries. Um, yes of course we'd like those. The crepe was really good. Then the bill came, they removed my partners steak from it which was expected. But, the shocker was the strawberries were $14! Our tiny crepe was $24, that's beyond insane. With how slow our waiter was, the loud kitchen I was just ready to get the f out of there, I paid for the stupid expensive crepe but, jeeze it's been bothering me ever since. This was supposed to be a special romantic date night and it definitely didn't meet my expectations and I was left disappointed. read more

We were a group of folks who went to Bon Ami for the first time on a Saturday night. First shout out goes to Lexi for being so kind and professional when we were deciding on an inside or outside table. Lexi bussed the table we choose and a great evening commenced. The house red was nice, the others' drinks were good as well. The chicken liver pate does not contain pork so I ordered it with a side of capers and it was delicious. Rich, decadent, and truly a recommendation. The Gorgonzola salad was good but the highlight was the vinaigrette, it was amazing! Not too sweet, but tasty depth of flavor. I ordered mussels in red sauce for dinner and though the sauce was amazingly scrumptious, the mussels were a tad grainy, so after the third I crunched on, I returned it with apologies and our server removed the item from the bill. Lastly, the crème brûlée was solid and ended the meal well. The others enjoyed their burger a La Merise, lamb chops, and beef bourguignon. The restaurant reminds you of quaint little places in Paris, France. The ambiance was lively but not too loud, and the service was outstanding. read more

Don't get the lamb. Went here for my birthday and was pretty disappointed. As we were figuring out what to order, I said to my boyfriend that I'll get the lamb since I'm sure they'll make it better than anything I could do. Much to my surprise, I was proven wrong. I very rarely ever complain about food at a restaurant - either to myself or to the restaurant. The lamb dish, which happens to be the 2nd most expensive item on the menu, was incredibly plain. The boiled vegetables and mashed potatoes I'm not even sure had salt on them. The lamb itself had no flavor other than plain lamb. The 'sauce' was barely existent. My boyfriend, who had the Parisian Chicken, which was rich with flavor, tried mine and agreed. When I asked the waitress for more of the same sauce that comes with it, she brought some. It was still pretty light in flavor. She then offered to ask the kitchen to make any of the other sauces on the menu. I selected one; it was better. At the end of the dinner, they ended up charging us $3.50 per sauce. I was appalled. $3.50 for more of the same sauce that came with the dish? And no mention of a charge when offering the second sauce? (I did not ask for the second sauce). I've been to restaurants where they'd offer to replace the entire dish for free if it was unsatisfactory. I was already pretty disappointed by my birthday meal that I didn't even want to bother to ask about the removal of the sauce fees. The handling of the situation was pretty poor from a business standpoint as the waitress already knew it was a special event and that I was already unhappy with my meal. Additionally, if you still choose to go to this restaurant, make sure to reserve outdoor seating when making a booking. I didn't know that the outdoor seating would book up as quickly as it does. Inside, at least the area we sat, we could hear every dish drop, every order communicated, and dishes clanging throughout the meal. Also, the seating can feel too tight (not even in regards to covid) for a comfortable experience. Overall, not even taking into account the French food I've had in the past, simply the average restaurant food I've had anywhere, I wouldn't recommend this place, at all, and especially not for a special event. read more

It's with mixed emotions I write this review. Both the food and wine were delicious. My husbands meal was probably one of the best we have had in a very long time (Parisian chicken)... but after a misunderstanding of my order, which was steak and frites but I just got frites, the service was overall horrible. We were both out of water the entire meal and instead of apologizing for the mishap, there was just a weird vibe. I would have been able to look past this if the rest of the service felt sincere, for what other reason do you go out to eat, right? I would be willing to try the place again, but we have not received such poor service at a restaurant in a long while. read more

Pros: nice patio. Cheese plate was really nice - plenty of cheese and crostini, with fruit and some ricotta toasts with honey. Good happy hour -- half-price bottles of wine till 6. Cons: the dinner menu is pretty limited. If you don't want to spend $25+ on an entree the only option is a crepe. I've worked for both Bon Ami and La Merise for the past 3 years. I'm writing this review to shine light on the lack of morals and ethics regarding one of the owners, Elena. First I'll say that yes the food is great. The menu was created by a chef who studied at the Culinary Institute of America (Scott). He gave 6 years to La Merise and created most of the specials and dishes that are still on the menu. In early 2018 Elena fired him and directed the wait staff to lie to the guests about who the new chef was. That's because the new chef isn't white and doesn't have a culinary degree (although he's an amazing guy who works very hard and deserves recognition). After coming back from quarantine the staff was not met with a plan of action or a meeting regarding the new covid 19 policies. Instead we came back to her proclaiming that the pandemic is fake and a conspiracy. A few weeks after reopening a guest called the health inspector because Elena and her sister, Vita (co-owner of Bon Ami) were both "working" in the establishment without face masks on. Elena received $200k from the ppp loan and not one employee saw a dime of it. Instead she increased the waitstaff tipout (without telling anyone). A tipout that goes to herself and her family members (who are the only managers). She has fired long time employees about questioning her for illegally stealing our tips. She's forced employees to work without tools or guidance while being understaffed. She's not a person who deserves the money or business from well intended people. After being in the service industry for more than 15 years, I've never witnessed such flagrant disregard for the well being of people from any establishment (especially from an owner). Looking back, I've witnessed her bully her employees and manipulate so many people with passive aggressive actions that I'm disappointed in myself for thinking that I could make the place better by being a solution to the problem. I hope that the remaining staff finds themselves in a good position whenever karma bites Elena. read more

I can confidently state that Julia Child would approve of the Beef Bourguignon. It's by far the best I've tasted, and I was visiting from New York, a city that is home to, some say, a few of the world's greatest restaurants, many of which attempt this dish and, in my opinion, have fallen short. Always a fan of cozy little French bistros (Zazie in San Francisco being the closest to my heart), I was thrilled to find one in my hometown of Denver that is cozy and warm, unpretentious and entirely inviting, and perfect for a reunion with my closest friends. I was also pleased to not be judged when, while waiting for my friends to arrive, I devoured an entire platter of Brussels frites. Apparently the outdoor space is a must-see; the chilly December darkness kept us in the dining room, which was, as I said, casually idyllic. Please don't ever leave Denver, Bon Ami. We were so excited to try this place. I will start with the positive - the bread and French onion and potato soups were good. The not so positive includes a long list. The hostess experience is odd - you wait at the front door until someone notices you. We sat in the front room which includes the bar area. So the bartender is your server. We waited for a long time to be served so someone, who seemed to be a manager, took our order. Next, the main entrees. We ordered the cordon bleu and Le Merise crepes. Mine came out cold and had to be sent back. By the time I got my dinner the others at the table were done eating. Neither dish had any flavor. They should have taken care of us in some manner. No one said anything about our food being cold - they just seemed annoyed. We won't be back. Overall - meh. read more

Ok. Lovely spot and ambience though not exactly French. The ham and gruyere Crêpe I had was all ham and mornay sauce - couldn't see or taste much gruyere Hubby's eggs Benedict with corned beef hash - the Benedict was good, the hash was straight out of a can. My whole experience was delightful. Even with only a month or so under their belts, the staff has it together (despite a persnickety clientele). I'm glad I decided to take the time to write a few reviews on places I had recently visited, because when I put in "Bon Ami" in the search box and saw that there were only 2 reviews and one was just bitter, I thought it was important to give credit where credit is due. I came with a large party (8) on day 2 of opening. We had made a reservation and were promptly seated the patio at a large, comfortable table. The patio was moderately busy for being mid-week, likely due to the weather. Regardless of the crowd, we had an attentive waiter who patiently came back a few times since our party was caught up in conversation and was distracted initially. He kept the glasses full and the bread baskets full. The menus is about 50/50 crepes and standard French fare. I was in the mood for Croque Madame, so when I saw it on the menu my impulse was to go for it, but thankfully we all decided to try a different crepe, despite it being dinner. The crepes were simply delicious. There was a wide variety to choose from, from German-influenced w/ sauerkraut and corned beef, to the seafood themed. The Stroganoff crepe is a meat-lover's dream. All off our food came out together, and hot. We sampled each others as well. While I thought I might be unsatisfied since I came after 2 hours at the gym, we were all quite satiated by the end. I absolutely love this place & considering I live 2 minutes away, I come often! Unfortunately I am super disappointed with this visit. I originally arrived at 3 & although there was an "Open" sign, was told they would be open at 4. I thought that was strange, but instead of eating somewhere else I decided to wait it out. When the time came, Joseph was my server and he was very short; dropped things off & walked away. When I said I was finished (I wanted to order more, but decided to cut it short), he cleaned up real quick and dropped the check off. When I gave him cash, he asked if I wanted change (normally I would've said no) but he wasn't very friendly. When he dropped my change off, he simply tossed the book and left. No, "good bye" or "thank you". It was very unpleasant considering I waited to eat here, & I understand people have bad days, but it ruined my mood. Every other time we've come, the servers are awesome & before, I could trust that it's money well spent coming here. It's unfortunate that is no longer the case. read more
