I just ate there. COVID is still a major concern. The staff all had on masks the entire time. I ordered pickup and waited at the bar for it to be prepared. I ordered a po boy with crawfish and shrimp and it was better than any po-boy I've ever had (including those in New Orleans) the shrimp and crawfish were cooked to perfection. I tried to come here earlier last year after a show at the Fox, but the kitchen had closed. They have interesting kitchen hours later at night so call ahead before you go. Anyway, we decided to give it another shot on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is nestled on a side street in Midtown and surprisingly there was ample parking in the lot behind the restaurant, even for a larger SUV. We ordered a myriad of items including the boiled peanuts, green beans, charbroiled crab claws, boiled potatoes, shrimp sandwich and broccoli. My favorite item by far was the shrimp sandwich. It was a concoction of mashed up shrimp in the shape of a burger patty, topped with sweet lettuce and slaw that was reminiscent of banh mi, all on a slightly buttered bun. It truly was a unique item that was filling without making you feel stuffed. The boiled peanuts were seasoned well, but were overly salty in my opinion. They were also quite soft and mushy making it difficult to remove from the shell. The charbroiled crab claws were overly "fishy" and had a slightly overpowering Parmesan taste. Boiled potatoes were on par with typical boiled potatoes you would get at a "boil in a bag" seafood place. They were seasoned with a slight Cajun seasoning which made them a nice mild accompaniment to the main meals. Broccoli was cooked a little al dente with a nice crunch. As for the flavor....the so-called "5 spice" was essentially teriyaki sauce. The green beans were seasoned well with garlic and butter and were also nice and crunchy. Overall the service was quite slow which contributes to the three star rating. The only thing they did swiftly was swipe our credit card for the bill. I had to find the server and ask him to bring us our boiled peanuts. Come to find out they were sitting on the counter by the kitchen. Also for the first half of our dining experience nobody checked on us to see if we needed anything. The service started getting better towards the middle and end. This was quite surprising as the restaurant wasn't overly busy and there was a group of 5 employees on the front of the restaurant just shooting the breeze. Overall, I would come back and order the shrimp burger, but I'd eat at the bar so I wouldn't have to deal with the slow service. read more

Went here for my birthday lunch and then again the next day! The shrimp burger is on my list of all time favorite foods! It you love shrimp, you will love the shrimp burger. It was so full of shrimp and had like no fillers! The sauce and slaw take it over the top. I had the crawfish Mac and cheese that I had heard so much about, as well. It was tasty and the oysters are a good size. My daughter had the fried shrimp which she liked and we all had the crabs. My sister had the smoked crabs which was good and definitely a good flavor. It is drier but probably because it's smoked. For sides, we had the red beans and rice, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese (with and without the crawfish) and corn. They were all flavorful. The sweet potatoes were sprinkled in powdered sugar which was nice. The red beans and mac and cheese had some spiciness wihich was awesome. May not be a spot for younger kids especially if they are picky eaters or don't like seafood. There's no kids meals and most items have spices. Not much options for dessert. Had the pastry dessert with mango puree and coconut. It was tasty. They put a candle in it. Wish they had more options. The service is okay. They probably need more servers as ours wasn't as attentive as he should have been. Maybe he's a new waiter. My husband and I ventured to this establishment for our anniversary dinner - it was pretty spur of the moment as we didn't know where we wanted to eat.. all we knew for sure was that we wanted seafood. So with the help of Yelp, we stumbled upon this joint. It's eclectic decor paired with tasty 'Nawlins' themed dishes is definitely worth the trip. Most of the dishes are a la carte. They do have a section of the menu that offers whole meals and it's like 4-6 things on there and they sound yummy but I wanted to hand select my meal so I stuck with the a la cute options. I had the catfish and crawfish with the smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese and the corn nuggets. Everything I ordered was delicious. The way my catfish was perfectly dusted with cornmeal was such a blessing to my taste buds. The crawfish breading was also very tasty - I was so happy while eating them lol. The corn nuggets were nothing short of great and the smoked Gouda mac&cheese was a tasty explosion cheesy goodness!! My husband had the full shrimp po' boy and although he said it was really good I still tasted it for myself and he was right - it was delicious! I'm a big fan of Bon Ton. It's a hip but casual New Orleans inspired eatery (and drink-ery) in midtown - in the old Top Floor space. The building is pink now, you can't miss it. Parking is a pain, had to park on Piedmont and walk a few blocks. Once inside, you immediately see the kitchen and area where the servers pick up plates. It's made to look like a takeout counter, but I've never seen people using it exclusively for that purpose. To the left, it opens up into the restaurant and bar. Personally, I always like to sit at the bar do I can chitchat with the staff. And I did. I worked through a few drinks on the menu. For me, the Hurricane was a highlight - the house made hurricane mix is delicious. The drinks are the first place you see the New Orleans influences- they also have a Smoked Mai Tai on the menu, and they aren't afraid to use vermouth or absinthe. The food is killer. Not too expensive, and plenty tasty. Hush puppies, shrimp Poboys, tasty veggies - all great at a fair price. They also have seafood platter style dishes, and you can waltz into Bon Ton any day and get a crawfish boil plate. The shrimp poboy is my favorite - it reminds me of what you would get from a sandwich stand in the back of a convenience store in New Orleans... simple but delicious, with bread that is just slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Going to a New Orleans "themed" restaurant outside of New Orleans or the gulf coast is usually on the miss side of hit or miss. Reading the yelp reviews for Bon Ton, I wasn't even sure if the service or the food was going to be that great. We got around an hour before our reservation but the manager was able to get us a table. She was really nice and from the New Orleans area (and even noticed my dirty coast shirt). The decor in the restaurant was cute and eclectic - we liked seeing some throws from Tucks and Muses on the shelves. We started out with the poutine as an app. It was delicious. We ordered the shrimp banh mi and the roast beef debris po boy in the large sizes so we could share. Both sandwiches were loaded with shrimp (and roast beef) and flavorful. The drink menu is interesting. I got the Broken Parachute. Took me a while to finish bc it had such a strong flavor but it was a good drink. Love love love!!! Small, intimate, dark, lovely ambiance, and amazing decor in one little place!! It was so good I recommended it to a friend who lived in Atlanta but had never been. I highly recommend sitting at the bar. You get a great show and I was able to ask about all of their house made liquors. They have several liquors that they infuse for their drinks to make them unique and unlike other restaurants or bars in the area. The bartenders were so amazing!!!! Had so much fun by myself. I was actually glad I could enjoy everything without others being there with me. I ordered the shrimp burger which had chunks of shrimp in it and the flavor was incredible. The baked oysters (garlic parm and the super spicy XO version) were probably my favorites. The raw oysters were also pretty fresh. The boiled peanuts were also super spicy XO style - great flavor if you don't mind your mouth being on fire for a bit. I wasn't too crazy about the fried crawfish - just your standard fried seafood basket - or the oyster fried rice... but the positive reviews for the five spice broccoli were 100% accurate. So this spot has been on my radar for a minute. I really wanted to check them out on the weekend because I heard they have a really cool vibe on Friday nights. Due to covid-19 dine-in is no longer permitted so I had to settle for take out. On the side of the restaurant are benches and tables for customer who want to dine at the restaurant. When you walk up to the restaurant there is a window for placing orders. Once your order is ready the hostess will call your name to pick-up your order. We were checked in and then inquired about when we were going to be seated. Our reservation was for 8pm, and usually we would expect to wait ten to fifteen minutes to be seated, but this time was different. We waited over an hour and we had a reservation. The hostess informed us that there reservations were screwed up and they did not expect as many people as they did, and no other consolation for our extended wait. I probably won't be returning.
