MMM i love chicken wings, so when I heard about this place I had to check it out. Double dated so we ordered a large order. Mixed both flavors- the soy garlic and spicy hot garlic. We got biscuits, cole slaw, and kimchi. Curly fries, sweet potato fries, and the spicy pot stickers. Oops and can't forget the soju! The spicy-ness is no joke at this place. I like spicy food but sometimes I can't handle too much of it. So i took one bite of the pot sticker and handed it over to my boyfriend. The chicken wings were so tasty! And I can't believe I finished the radishes. But it was a good balance. The soju was good, actually got a little tipsy because we ordered two bottles. Overall good food, nice experience. very good size servings. the wings were huge and the drum sticks were gigantic! i had the soy garlic, tasted kind of sweet. The spicy garlic was wayyy too spicy for me and I was glad i listened to the waiter and didn't end up ordering it. I tried some from my friends dish...numbed my mouth. The only thing is i wish the wings weren't so heavily battered. Towards the end when I got pretty full i just ripped off the batter and ate the meat on the inside. Been to places such as 99 Chicken before, and just figured chicken wasn't my thing... until I went here. Had to wait pretty long, but there's nothing anyone could have done about that. Shared a large pitcher of soju with one other, and they ended up serving it in two pint glasses instead -- cracked me up a bit. Probably the best wings I have ever had. Once I got the breast strips and they are very dry so do yourself a favor and get the wings (spicy soy). If you are taking to go it's a good idea to call it in, they are always crazy busy and take out is at least a 15 minute wait. But it's worth it. read more

It was okay. Not the best but pretty good. Service was eh. They need to learn how to host better because it doesn't make sense to hold a table for almost an hour and not let anyone sit there. I asked for a table and they said no, but when i finished eating, the table was still empty. When some folks think of fried chicken, particularly from a chain, they might think of their neighborhood KFC, Popeye's, etc. etc. It's probably best to banish all preconceived notions of fast food fried chicken before heading over to Bon Chon, because it's not fast food! This goes for both quality and prep time. It is a bit of a wait for the chicken, which the very friendly staff let us know up front when ordering. Regardless, we were fine with waiting, as there are a bunch of bigscreens around to enjoy Sunday's football offerings. It also probably helped that we ordered a couple of appetizers and sides which came out promptly after we ordered. The fried zucchini was the best I've had, and comes with two tasty sauces on the side. One of the sauces is orange, with a mild kick to it that builds up over time, while the other one is refreshing and cools off the build-up from the other sauce. A really nice pairing, although I was happy to eat only the orange sauce and even ask for more :P We also had some fries which were also nicely prepared, to whatever extent fries can be. Our chicken was brought out not too long after we finished our apps. My wife and I ordered 3 pieces each, soy-garlic, and spicy. Awesome chicken! Hands down the best I've had. Something about the preparation and/or cooking method keeps the chicken super-moist inside, while turning the skin into this light, ultra-crispy piece of glory. I'm still working on the math to figure out if I'd get more chicken-skin-surface-area via ordering wings instead of drums... The spicy chicken is definitely spicy, with heat that builds over time, and this comes from someone with a big palate for spicy foods! The garlic-soy was tasty, but my preference definitely was the spicy while my wife stuck to the soy-garlic. She also ate both hers and my pickled daikon dishes, so I am pretty sure they must have been good! :) All in all, if you'd like some unbelieveably delicious fried chicken, a great place to hang out, have some drinks, and watch some sports, check Bon Chon out! read more

Just came back from getting my mixed large order to go! Judging from yelp reviews, I was pretty excited to try Bon Chon's chicken. I am a huge fan of Popeye's and want to explore different kind of fried chicken--hence the Korean version. Since I live in the area, I opted Bon Chon over 99 Chicken. Save the gas! Ok, now let's go to the verdict. I spent a little over $20 and got 4 drumsticks and 12 wings with Soy garlic and Spicy sauce. They were: -- CRUNCH!!!! Super crunchy (I could literally hear the crunch and munch) -- Moist inside and crispy on the outside. I wish the meat is more savory (it's pretty bland). But I guess it's way less in sodium content compared to Popeye's and KFC. So, it might be a healthier option, if you can say that fried chicken is healthy. --The sweet spicy sauce is better than the regular soy sauce (which I found lacking in flavor) -- My side orders: Kimchi coleslaw has more flavor than the regular coleslaw. Both were not overwhelmingly sweet nor creamy like Popeye's/KFC. It could be better if the serving size is larger (felt like getting 1 spoon full of each). I get a bonus of the daikon pickle which was sweet, sour and refreshing. -- at 3 pm the place was empty and service was fast. Need to do hours of Bollywood dance after this, since I'm getting the order for myself *grin* I might be a regular patron if not for the price. Give it a try! -- read more

So much disappointment. We actually went to the original Bon Chon in Korea back in Sept, and loved it so much that we wanted to visit the one closer to home. Huge mistake. The chicken in Korea is heavenly. Super crisp, flavorful, and super cheap. Plus the vibe of the place there is like a trendy bar. The place here is the opposite in every possible way. Dumpy, dirty, crowded, expensive. And the chicken is awful. The 'sauce' was basically just drizzled onto one side of the chicken. On top of that it was basically just sugary salt (soy garlic) or heat (chili), and didn't even taste good. The 'kimchi coleslaw' is just orange-ish colored coleslaw with carrots. Meh, i've been spoiled by the original, and the the American version is a poor facsimile. read more

Went there a few days ago. Had their medium combo with half spicy and half not. Chicken came out hot and fresh within 15 mins. Delicious, especially the spicy ones. Recommend that you go there early and eat at the restaurant. It gets very pack if you get there at meal time. Went there again for lunch. Chicken still taste great!!! Pretty damn good. We got a combination of the wings between the spicy and regular chicken wings and they were extremely crispy and tasty. One thing to note: The spicy wings are no joke. They have heat. It's not crazy "I'm going to put you in the hospital" kind of heat. We also tried the bul go gi wrap was kind of like a burrito with bul go gi in it, and while it was pretty tasty, I think it might take some getting used to. It'd be great to bring something like this for lunch though. Service was good too. I was there when it was dead though, so perhaps I'll have to go try the place when it's packed to see if the wait staff can hold up. Will be back! read more

I finally tried Bon Chon chicken and it was something of an epiphany. Some people claim that it is the best Korean-style fried chicken but I had some serious doubts. I thought I knew my chicken, but I guess I was wrong. It's true that the batter they use is very thick, and if you're not into then don't come here. (Since that should make the wait shorter for us true fans. :P) The thick batter is my favorite part because of its texture. It's so crunchy and chewy at the same time - I've never tried anything like it before. It really highlighted the flavor of the sauce. I only tried the spicy garlic sauce, but I'll have to try the soy sauce next time. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in the San Jose area. read more

Disappointing hype. Came with a friend because of all the great talk about Bon Chon's chicken. Because we absolutely love great chicken, we were so excited to try this place out. We got in and waited 45min to sit in such a cramped space. Workers had basically no emotions, and acted like they didn't enjoy their job. They didn't really care for checking how we were doing at all. When our meal was finally served to us we took our first bites and looked at each other with the same unsatisfied facial expression. We ordered a large combo of wings and legs of half of their 2 flavors along with rice and coleslaw as our sides. We also ordered sweet potato fries. Sadly these were the least favorite sweet potato fries I've tasted. The coleslaw tasted very very odd.... As if they were old or something, I really don't know what it was but it didn't feel good to my stomach. Rice is rice. As for the chicken, the only good thing we both agreed on was its skin. They do a good job with its batter. Unfortunately, flavor is lacking. The sauces were unevenly tossed with the chicken, and once we got to the meat, flavor is basically lost. I absolutely hate giving bad reviews and I barely give them out, but nothing really of this experience came close to the expectations the big hype created. read more

4 stars - Their Korean fried chicken is pretty good. It's not too wet/saucy. Both flavor are good, but the spicy flavor is very inconsistent. Mine was very mild, but some reviewers said it was extremely hot. The other food is terrible though: 1 star - scallion Korean pancake. Worst I've ever had. Way overpriced ($11) for no seafood. 2 stars - sesame ginger tofu salad. Deep fried tofu not a good pairing. Dressing is mediocre. 2 stars - kimchi cole slaw. Not sure where the "kimchi" comes into play. It's basically cole slaw with a little chili powder. read more

YUM. I remember driving on El Camino one day and seeing the sign for Bonchon, google'd it when I got home, but I guess it hadn't opened yet, but now it has! Picked up some take out tonight, and it was rather good, I can only imagine how much better it'd be fresh. The skin was crispy, the meat was tender, and the flavoring was just right. Unlike 99 Chicken, the wings/drumsticks aren't drenched in sauce so the eating experience is a lot cleaner. Since we didn't eat in, I can't say much about the service )which is also a big part of the experience) but from what I've read it sounds like its quite good as well. The spicy fried chicken is delicious. Definitely recommend that over the regular flavor. The yogurt mixed with Soju carafe is the perfect accompaniment. If you're still hungry after a giant plate get the kalbi taco/burrito. read more

BonChon what??? I will say that when I heard about this, it wasn't until my East Coast friends were bragging about it on their FB statuses. Therefore, I went ahead and YELP'd for restaurants in the area that specialized in this BonChon....and may I say I found the GEM of all BonChon's--OKAY well maybe not, but I've been to this restaurant so many times and each visit is as if it was the first. I love love love the customer service--though the place be small in occupancy, its the ambiance brings---the waiters and servers all talk to you as if they've known for you forever! A definite plus... Now on to the important factor---the food....from the appetizers, to the infamous Korean BonChon chicken to their sides...they not only have chicken as a main selection but they stay true to Korean dishes such as their BulGoGi wraps and coleslaw kimchee. I want all of it!!! And I have no shame of eating with my hands----screw the proper way of eating b/c I'm a lady--when I have BonChon Chicken I'm eating with my hands and making sure its finger lickin' good... I try to get in a BonChon session at least 2x a month--and have converted my friends to this new food feat!!! Enjoy!!! read more

I love their chicken here! Every time I come here I have to contain myself and try not to go overboard and order too much. Their fried chicken is nice and juicy and flavorful and the spiciness is on point. I've tried both the spicy and the soy garlic and both are really good. I've also tried some of the other items on their menu but you're pretty much coming here for the chicken. Be prepared for a wait if you come in the evening. I've learned not to come here when you're starving because sometimes it's a bit of a wait. If you come in the afternoon, the wait isn't so bad. I've tried some other spots that do the same type of chicken but Bon Chon is the best. You won't be disappointed. read more

I came here with a group of friends (~10 people). We ordered a couple different types of fried cihcken. One of them was mild and another one was rather spicy. Both were crispy and tasty. The food was good for a snack. The service was okay as well--wish they would have brought napkins and plates more proactively. They have this alcoholic yogurt drink which is pretty unique and tasty which I recommend trying if you're with friends in a group since it's good for sharing. read more

I am a huge fan of fried chicken and this place is THE SHIT. This is the first korean fried chicken place I've tried so I can't compare it to other korean chicken places, but man, Bon Chon rocks. I love how when I bite into their poultry delights, all the skin stays in place, so that I can get a little bit of crispy goodness in every bite. The amount of spicy is perfect- doesn't seem that spicy at the beginning, but builds as you eat. The sides are decent, but really, who cares. DA CHICKEN IS BOMB. read more
