What happened to you Bonchon? New ownership? I've been to this location numerous times before, but haven't been in the past year. Previously the service was acceptable and the chicken was awesome. Tonight we stopped by since we were craving KFC. Right off the bat the service was horrible. They had 3 members of the wait staff working and the place was half full. Our waiter gave us water and proceeded to ignore us. This wasn't our first time so we decided pretty quickly on what to order - 20 wings, half + half sauce, double coleslaw, onion rings. Our waiter went past us to collect checks and clean up tables but didn't ask us if we wanted to order. I combined the menus and was making full eye contact to indicate we were ready. After passing us for the third time, we had to yell "we're ready to order" to get his attention. Our order came pretty quick so that was a good thing - but the chicken...Is it just me or did they change up the sauce recipe? The spicy sauce was overly spicy without much flavor and the soy garlic was overly salty. Both sauces did not meet my previous standard for Bonchon. The crispness of the chicken was as I remembered so that was a relief. The sides and onion rings were spot on so no complaints there. Overall I was disappointed - the sauce for the chicken was subpar and the service degraded since the last time I was there. I want to review this place higher because the food is actually what we come here for. The first time my girlfriend and I came we had a great experience and the white meat was incredible. We both don't really prefer boned meat and we were thrilled that their white meat was so juicy and great quality. We came back for my birthday with a bigger group of people because this is probably one of my favorite places to eat. We were told for a table of 10 we'd wait about 45 minutes and we decided to wait for the great food. After almost an hour and 20 minutes of hanging out outside, we got fed up. The server offered to take our order to get a head start on the food. We placed our order for about 3-4 large (20 piece) orders of white meat. They inform us at that time, after waiting almost and HOUR AND A HALF, that they are out of white meat. We still hadn't even been sat at that time. So we walked out. Fast forward 4 months to my Dad visiting from the East Coast, we contemplated many other tasty restaurants but he was intrigued by spicy Korean fried chicken so we decided to come here. We called ahead since we had learned that it was busy from the last time. They told us it'd be 25-30 minutes for a table of 4. Again we waited an hour for a table of only 4!!! Finally once we are seated and starving we place an order for 2 large white meats, thinking there's no way on a Friday night at 8 pm they'd run out of white meat. Once again, we are informed after an hour wait that there's no white meat. Wtf. I can't explain how infuriating this is. Two times in over 4 months? Not only is the wait absolutely ridiculous but to not have your primary item is beyond disappointing. Even for how great this chicken is when you actually get what you came for, it doesn't outweigh the bad. This is the last time I will eat at this location. We will drive the hour in traffic to go to the San Mateo location instead of waiting an hour here to be consistently let down.b read more

I always love coming here when I'm craving yummy and especially crispy chicken wings. Let me start off by saying their wings are pretty huge here! Not sure what they use for their batter but it's always extra crispy compared to other places. Also, the good thing is that their wings are not drenched in sauce and just the right amount! They have two flavors, my favorite being soy garlic and the other one is hot garlic. The sides that came with it are rice and kimchi coleslaw. The coleslaw wasn't that great in my opinion because it was way too sweet. They have HAPPY HOUR from 3-6 on weekdays which is a plus ! But overall I def recommend anyone looking for a new wing place to try! read more

YOBO FRIED CHICKEN! Love it! The sauces are tasty (regular and spicy), and the chicken manages to stay crispy even after soaking up the sauce. I like that they give you a free side (slaw, kim chee slaw, biscuit, rice) and cubed pickled daikon with an order of chicken. I like the meal sets options that make it easy to order enough stuff for your party and get everything you want (includes booze!!!). The carafe of peach yogurt soju cooled the spiciness of the chicken and made us feel nice. It's a sort of small space so when it gets crowded you will have to wait; kind of wish it was a little bigger so more people can just hang out, drink, and enjoy their chicken. Ah, finally, a solid Korean Fried Chicken spot in the bay area. I love 99 chicken, but it doesn't quite compare to the authentic KFC I've had in New York and LA. I was excited to try Bon Chon Chicken after hearing good things about it. Service was a bit slow at Sunnyville; it took 15 minutes for us to each get our orders (both smalls). I thought the spicy sauce was much better than the regular soy garlic, but overall, the meal was not as good as I expected. The soy garlic was a bit forgettable and lacked flavor. The fried chicken generally felt like healthier American chicken fingers, which I enjoyed since they weren't heavily battered. Came here the other night 30 min before closing. We would have gotten takeout but the cashier said it was cool to stay. Lots of flat screen tvs abound - good place to watch the game (if they show it). Ordered small mix of chicken (4 wings (i.e. buffalo wing-style meat, not just wings) and 1 drumstick), as well as the bulgogi taco. The tacos were the fastest to come out. Not really tacos, they were more like two taco bell size burritos, except much more tastier. Imagine a bulgogi lettuce wrap with peppers, wrapped in a tortilla. Yum! The sauce that it comes with goes nicely with the burritos. Very tender meat too. Tasty as it is, not sure if it's worth $8.50. Also got a pint of Sapporo. Seems like if you order alcoholic drinks, you have to order from a different register (down the bar). Kind of confusing. Oh the chicken. First they said it would take 15-20 for the chicken to come out since they fry it fresh. Totally fine, since fresh is tasty and that's the normal wait time for takeout anyway. Almost 30 min later, I asked someone about the order, since someone who came after us got what we ordered before us, thinking that maybe they just delivered to the wrong table. Nope, they reminded me that it normally takes 15-20 min (yea yea) and blahblah fresh and crispier tasting. They didn't realize that I'd already been waiting for 30, and I should have asked the person we ordered from, but he had already left. Out comes the meat - wings and drumstick are very well sized, not domino's/wingstop tiny size. I got the spicy garlic sauce and it wasn't spicy at first. But by the last piece, my lips were feeling the heat. Not water-gulping spicy though. Crispy skin on the drumstick from the sweet glaze, although not at all saucy. Meat was relatively moist. Don't go expecting popeye's or qcup chicken. Very different from both spectrums. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back unless I wanted the wraps (yum) or had a specific craving for their wings (maybe). I've heard that the original chain on the east coast is much better tasting. Yes yes yes... I'm a big fan. I used to frequent 99 Chicken, but due to my new gig, Bon Chon is my new KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) joint. I personally love the spicy sauce. It won't kick your butt, but it does have a kick to it. As for the chicken, it has that awesome texture and the chicken is always juicy. I really don't get too crazy with the sides, but the Kim Chee cole slaw was good. Make sure to have the daikon on the side with the chicken. It compliments the chicken so well. My group of four dropped in on a Sunday around 5pm. There was no wait and we had our pick of tables. The waiter sat us promptly and gave us (first timers) an overview of the menu. The place was super clean and the decor was nice. Having Sunday night football on the HDTVs didn't hurt either. We didn't have to wait long for our food and I was very impressed with my first taste of Bon Chon chicken. The taste and crispiness definitely set it apart from traditional fried chicken. I've read some reviews comparing it unfavorably to Church's -- those folks are probably better served buying their fried chicken on sale at Safeway. I like my food a bit spicy and was able appreciate both the spicy and the soy garlic - some in my party couldn't handle the spicy flavor so be warned. We had a large order of wings / drums with some potstickers, zucchini fries & sweet potato fries. Everything was fresh - the potstickers and fries went fast. Even though we were hungry it was probably too much food for us. Great service & terrific food that is worth waiting for. Don't forget to try the Peach soju too! read more

Went here last week on a DD and I can't stop thinking about the chicken. Although I am Korean, I haven't been too into the Korean Fried Chicken craze... :T. Anyway, we ordered one Large Mixed (4 Drumsticks, 12 Wings), one Medium White Meat (10 pieces of White Meat), and got three free sides (Kim Chee coleslaw, Rice, and Biscuits). We also got the Sesame Ginger Tofu Salad to share, and a large Sapporo (just three of them drank). We tasted both the regular flavor (Garlic Soy) and Spicy. My favorite was the Spicy drumsticks... there was sooo much freaking meat!!! The skin was perfectly crisped and the meat was juicy and tender. The wings were also pretty dang good. My friend is on a diet and so he got the white meat, it was aiight, the flavor was good, but the chicken was soo dang dry :(. The sides were whatev's (rice is rice, kim chee coleslaw was ok, and the biscuits were meh). The salad on the other hand was Bomb.COM! Mmmmm... and best part is, it was a perfect starter salad for four people :). Like the other reviewers, I'd definitely recommend getting a salad or something to start out, because if you don't, you'll be waiting a longgggggggg time for your chicken. Total bill: $62 after tip for four people. Not bad yo!
