After years of being a loyal customer to 99 Chicken and after a huge disappointment in the restaurant (horrible customer service, increased prices, decreased food quality...sad), I was thrilled to find this gem of a place. I had known of the franchise from my visit to Korea a couple years ago and because my friends on the east coast would rave about it all the time, so finding it on the side of El Camino Real that I frequent less often was extremely exciting. We got a large mixed plate of both soy garlic and spicy hot garlic sauces and kimchi coleslaw and biscuits for sides. Having said that, I would definitely recommend getting just the wings. The drums were good, but for the price, I feel that it is worth more to get more of the wings instead. But definitely go with both the sauces because the spicy hot can get a bit too hot, so the soy garlic serves as a good balance. The kimchi coleslaw was very unique and not disappointing. However, the biscuits seemed quite mediocre and were not special at all. Also, I have definitely had better pickled radishes elsewhere. These ones seemed a bit bland. All in all, it was a fairly good experience. Although it fell a bit below my expectations, the chicken in particular was very good and the rest of the meal followed not too far along. I love Bon Chon. I didn't even know it existed until my friend suggested it. I tried it and fell in love with their juicy, crispy, flavorful chicken. We got the spicy kind and I think you can choose between that or the soy. The fries were also delicious. You get a pretty good portions for the price. The service is quick and the waitresses are nice. I look forward to going there again. read more

Oooooo fried chicken!!!!! this place is reallyyyyy good. it's my favorite fried chicken place in the bay area. it's a bit pricey but maybe because i can eat a LOT of chicken. white meat is a bit dry though. i would stick to the wings the other stuff is not so great. we got a scallion pancake and it was undercooked. bulgogi taco wraps were okayyy. maybe they'd be better if i didn't compare them to fried chicken. read more

As someone who admittedly enjoys American style wings more, I think it's probably fair that you take my review with a grain of salt. People say you can't compare apples and oranges, so Bon Chon really only should stand against its Korean counterparts. In terms of the chicken, Bon Chon has a solid garlic soy flavor with a somewhat underwhelming "spicy" sauce. While you won't find these wings drenched in two gallons of sauce, the wings still manage enough flavor to complement the expertly fried chicken. Portions are large, but the sides (see Kimchi Slaw) were pretty mediocre. As far as Korean style goes, I think Bon Chon is probably one of thee better wing spots in the area. If you are deciding between American style and Korean style, I'm not sure Bon Chon can stand up to its American competition. read more

Asian fried chicken at it's finest. The menu is not large because it doesn't need to be. There are only two chicken flavors, which are really just two spice-levels of the same soy flavor (spicy and mild). I prefer the spicy version, but both are excellent. The breading is relatively light, but kind of stands a bit apart from the chicken, so there's a space between the meat and the skin/breading. The sides are not that great; we usually just opt for the biscuits. Medium is good for two people, but the chicken is still good the next day as well if you get the larger size. Just a note about the location: It's hard to find, even with a GPS. It's kind of tucked into the corner of a strip mall, and my GPS always sends me to some back-alley condo parking lot a couple streets over, so I consistently get lost every time. But still worth it! Probably my favorite place to get chicken. There are only two flavors, soy sauce & spicy garlic or something along the lines. I usually get the spicy wings but i've noticed that the spice isn't really consistent. sometimes it's like eating a volcano and other times it's aight and not too bad. My friends decided to have a wing-off, everyone brought wings from different shops around the South Bay to compete. I was concerned about the wings cooling off, but was super pleasantly surprised that they remained crispy and tasty even an hour after picking it up. The Bonchon soy garlic was the hands down winner, with the spicy soy trailing in at third (out of a dozen different brands of wings, it was kind of impressive that both placed). Take out is super easy, call ahead and the order will be ready in about 15min. This location also gave sides with the combo order - the kimchi slaw is amazing! Been coming here for years and chicken here is pretty fantastic, granted it's one of their good days, as with most restaurants, they tend to have their "on and off" days. So the 3 stars is purely a compliment to their chicken, however the lack of the other 2 stars is for the stinginess with the sauce and sides. Doesn't matter if you order a small medium or large order of chicken, you will always ONLY get ONE small container of a side. Given that a large order of chicken wings is 30 pieces, it's clearly meant to be shared. The sizing of their sides is meant for one, maybe two people at most. Now, moving on to the lack of sauce, some wings, although rarely are very nicely coated with their sauce while most sit there often dry on the exterior and are barely coated with anything, leaving for an inconsistency of flavor. Huge upside, and the main reason for my compliments on the chicken is that they consistently make it crunchy and the chicken's meat inside is always moist from my experience. read more

If you love wings, kimchi, pickled radish ----- hands down...BON CHON is the best place to go! The wings (garlic/soy - either spicy or reg) makes all other wings (KFC, Wingstop, Popeyes, etc) look less desirable not to mention a turn off. They also have other entrees that are savory and yummy (beef dish-almost adobo style) and filling appetizers. But the WINGS are what folks crave.... you can't just have one... it's very addicting! This is NOT a FOOD review. it's a SERVICE REVIEW. the employees there do not know how to work at all. I had to wait for my food more than 30 minutes twice i've been there for a PICKUP. They don't know how to put in the order at the right time, don't know how to call the name nor the order numbers for people. I would give 10 stars if possible!!! Chicken was great so tasty! The sweet then spicy flavor with the nice crunch!! But its not to much about the chicken it was the service that won me over!! So I did a to go order and picked it up. Went home and noticed the pot stickers I ordered ($6.99) was not in my bag! So I called and spoke to a girl and she said the manager will call me. I waited.... he called me the next day in the morning. The manager Albert was so nice he apologized and said he would give me my money back I was thrilled...but he also gave me a free medium order of wings and more pot stickers PLUS my original refund! So nice...I never asked for it he just gave it to me! I will check my order next time but at the end of the day for a restaurant to care about their customers and their business that is fantastic service! Will be eating there again SOON!!!!!! read more

The chicken here is always delicious, whether it's dine in or take out. Only downside of dining in is the small dining room. Also they they have about 5 people visibly working the dining area and only 2 tending to tables. The other two manning the registers and take out and one person just standing behind the counter watching everything instead of helping. As we sat and ate our dinner we had to continually flag the waitress down for anything and everything we needed not once did she just stop by to see if anything was needed. We noticed this for everyone's table. Once the orders were placed they never came back around. 3 stars for great food but very poor service. read more

Okay, this is just for the fried wings, but they are crispy, reasonably large, flavorful, and delicious. A bit pricey but tasty. I prefer the wings to the boneless chicken, actually. I'm not actually that fond of the sides, but I only come here for the chicken. On a food allergy note, I've asked a few times over the years and they always say the chicken wings are dairy-free and egg-free. read more

The chicken is good onsite, but I got takeout and they packed it too hot so by the time I got home (10-minute drive), the box was so soggy that when I took it out of the bag the bottom of the box was so wet it broke and the chicken all fell onto the floor. I called them and told them what happened, and while they did offer me replacement chicken, I had to drive over to get it, wasting more time, and that chicken and box was really soggy too. read more

Eh, it's a fine option if you are in the south bay, but I strongly prefer the soy garlic glaze at OB Chicken in Oakland. They also only have two flavors and a small variety of side dishes. However, I could definitely see it as being more solid and consistent compared to 99 Chicken in Santa Clara. Too bad this place doesn't have an extra spicy sauce, otherwise I'd have no reason to go to 99 Chicken at all! read more

pretty tasty! crispy, flavorful and not as fatty-greasy as other fried chicken out there. and damn I loves me some fried chicken. I thought it was funny that there were different sizes of drumsticks/wings as if they just went to grocery stores and picked up whatever chicken was on sale :P was in a group of about 20 people at two tables and the service was remarkably good despite how many people we had. only reason for missing 1 star was that the sides that came with our chicken plates were just okay - coleslaw was reminiscent of KFC style, bread was meh, pickled radish was bland. I never been to Bon Chon Chicken but someone brought over chicken from them at the party. Of course having a few drinks already and starving to eat I had to try some. Chicken was good but I didn't know some spicy and others was not. I got luck the night of the part of not getting a spicy one but the next day was a different story. Spicy was spicy for me and a little to spicy. I know you should not rip off the skin of the chicken but it was just to much and I could not take it anymore I had to do it. My mouth was on fire. Overall the chicken is not bad and I would like to check out this place and try there other dishes. read more

The first time I tried this place, I was amazed. I loved it. Now, it's just okay. I wish they had just plain fried chicken. I'm not a fan of the soy sauce flavor. it's good, but not my ideal fried chicken. Get there early (like right when they open) if you go at lunch time. My review is for the food since I had my son buy my food for me. It's been a while since I had Korean chicken the last time was when wing box in my area was still open. I had the wings and drumstick combo. Their chicken is so great it was crispy on the outside and just the right moisture inside. The flavor that I choose was the soy /garlic flavor witch was also great. My son also got the spicy flavor but it was just a little to spicy for me. If only this place was closer to my home this would be my go to place for Korean chicken. So if you are in the Sunnyvale area and are in the mood for Korean chicken this is your place. read more

Previous issues with malfunctioning door had been fixed a while ago, so I thought it's only appropriate that I give Bonchon kudos for the pleasant service we've always received. MM...fried chicken.. can't turn that down. It's my 2nd fried chicken stop of the week since I was at BWW earlier this week. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. They were crispy on the outside with tender meat on the inside. Wish they had more flavors though. I mean 2 flavors only? Soy and spicy. But I do like their wings better than 99 chicken down the street. Their sides are limited too. They have regular slaw, kimchi slaw, sliced daikon, rice, and biscuits (which taste quite similar to the ones at KFC).
