I met a friend for lunch here. She highly recommended it and was a regular. I'm not sure if because she was a regular the server didn't feel like she had to take as good of care of us or what but the service wasn't great. They weren't busy and we waited forever for our meals and for refills on our drinks. As I said it wasn't even busy. My friend had a salad which looked very good. I had food envy as I ordered the Cuban and it was a disappointment. They may as well have called it a Reuben. It was soggy and small and as I said a disappointment. The staff was very friendly and helpful . The French Fries and Cole Slaw were good . There was no smell indicating ( outside nor inside ) that this was a BBQ Place. No signs of a real smoker anywhere!!!! The Ribs were tough with dry rub on it but there was no indication that these were smoked . They looked and tasted as if they were cooked briefly inside a stove . The manager was very friendly when he explained to me that the ribs are smoked for 2 and 1/2 hours . Really ???? Since when can BBQ ribs only be smoked for such a short duration ? And it definitely wasn't a regular smoker as it didn't taste or look anything like BBQ. He( the manager) brought me some pulled pork to see if I might like it better . While the pork was tender, it definitely was not smoked or BBQ meat. The actual barbecue was the best thing about it. Although it is a barbecue joint, the things that accompanied it were too poor to want to go back. The hostess seemed annoyed we even walked in. The service was terrible. One of our barbecue plates was delivered to the table without sides and barbecue sauces. We had to ask for them and for silverware. The sides were pretty small. The apple slaw was super bland and the little blueberry muffin that came with the plate was just kind of strange. Maybe a cornbread muffin would be more appropriate with a barbecue plate? Anyway, I hate leaving poor reviews but my folks were visiting from out of town and wanted barbecue. I was super bummed we chose this place. Maybe it is a style that I have never had, but the signature sauce tasted like Heinz 57. the ribs were a bit tough and not very meaty and the "wet" sauce was overly salty. A younger "cousin" to the old Johnny Harris restaurant, with some of the old menu items from JH, but with a new take them. Love the shrimp salad, fruit & date bread plate, still yummy but different. I haven't had most items on the menu since I normally like to come here just for an after work drink but what I have tried is awesome! Hot and full of home cooked flavor! Our waitress told us they make the stew daily and the coleslaw was delicious too! Both excellent but only one portobello mushroom cap would have been plenty. I also tasted the green apple coleslaw. This was not sweet but on the salty side so it paired well with the brisket and mushroom. We ordered one serving of the coconut creme pie. Excellent t dessert - not too sweet - taste the coconut as well as the toasted coconut. I we serving was enormous go for two people. My four stars comes from the Texas experience of bar b que. the original sauce had too much vinegar what and was very acidic. Nasty!! I order food from here Togo all the time and it has ALWAYS been great! They make sure to have EVERYTHING in the bag for you, and the food is always so juicy! Well we decided to come I side and eat this particular day. We were greeted and seated pretty quick. The waitress took a little longer coming to get our drink but she was bright and cheery so it made it better for me. It wasn't so busy so I didn't understand why it would take long, but let me tell you... how you treat others make a huge impact in customer service. She came out apologized for the wait and was cheery, that POSITIVE energy can change so many situations. Anywho, the food came out and was delicious as always. The "bow" Mac and cheese tickles me a bit and I love it! It always puts a smile on my face. The meats are seasoned well and taste so good with that mustard sauce. Had a burger, think it was called Burger Town with mac n cheese. Was craving a burger tonight, but it makes sense that they wouldn't be known for burgers but instead their BBQ. We came here on a Saturday night after 8 and the place was nearly empty. Both my girlfriend and I ordered the pulled pork sandwiches and only one word can describe my my experience at Bowyies. "Disappointed" when the sandwich arrived there was very little pork on two huge pieces of bread. My girlfriend and mention to the waiter Tristan that the amount of pork was very low.. he went and spoke to his manager and they in turn brought a small cup of additional pork which was not cooked all the way. I don't plan on coming back to this restaurant because I feel that this should have never happened they should be aware of their portion sizes before serving a customer. I had an Angus burger that was okay The slice of tomato look dried out and old. The fries were lukewarm and dried out. The manager or owner walked up to a few couples in the restaurant blowing sunshine, thanking them for coming and then walked right by my table without saying a word.
