Located on the main strip of the cute downtown area of Covina, this brewery restaurant not only has great beer but good food as well. Okay two words: portobello fries. Sometimes you ask that rhetorical question of: What would I want for a last meal? This would solve that problem. At $9, it's not exactly a cheap thrill, but this platter is large enough to share. The umami-ness of the mushrooms combined with the deep fried crispiness is worth taking your Lipitor for, trust me. The rotating beer menu has a ton of options - I had a sampler of Belgian style beers. I even tried their saison - and believe me I am NOT a fan of saison-style beer - and loved this. I am sorry to say that I didn't recall the name, I think I had too much beer. The fish and chips should be renamed "chips and fish." Daughter thought that there could have been more fish to go with the fries, but the fries alone are amazing. Fresh potatoes, these make for delicious fries - they aren't too thick either! Service is friendly and they put up with me wanting to try every beer under the sun before settling on a sampler (yes I am THAT customer). But this was my fourth trip back here. I came here on Friday, February 28th around 9:30pm, and server/bartender was SO, SO NICE. I didn't expect such a friendly greeting, being that we were walking in 30 minutes before closing time, and her happiness was such a nice surprise. Without us asking, she brought water while we looked over the menu and extra limes with our drinks. We ordered the blood orange margarita and the piña colada - both strong, tasty and refreshing. Beead & Barley is such a cool, little place. My wife & I discovered this place yesterday when we stopped by to catch some live music. I, just recently, started guitar lessons with a new instructor, Kyle Guerrero, who was performing here last night & invited me to catch his set. My wife & I decided to make it a date might and we're so glad we did. Kyle is an excellent guitarist & he played some great hits of the 80s, 90s, 2000s. The ambiance is quite nice, very much a gastropub with a bit of a cool divey-bar type of feel. And the food was spectacular! We shared some buffalo wings & a medley of tacos - carnitas, pork belly, & carne asada. The wings had such a great kick, nice & spicy the way I like. Each set of tacos was very flavorful with the pork belly being my favorite. I'd easily go back just for the tacos. We hung out, had some great food, listened to good music - what more did we need? Oh, yea, some good beer. We each had the oatmeal stout which was not just flavorful but surprisingly very smooth. Definitely a place we'll visit again. read more

I found this broom closet of a gastropub the other day and decided to break bread with some family here. Great light and airy hipster atmosphere. I swear you blink and you miss this place, but we walked in and Immediately we were greeted with smiles and menus. This place has not disappointed for a Sunday brunch. Our family meets and gathers here for mimosas and good food. The music isn't so loud on Sundays and it's a little quieter, even though the menu is different you still get a good selection to choose from. I'm a Tacos and Beer girl, so they have just what I'm looking for. The food is hot, fresh and very innovative I must say. The restrooms are clean and so is the dinning area. Not much to the place small establishment, stopped in before a high school baseball game to grab food. Menu was not much to it. Asada fries were ok not much seasoning to it. Due to a large party of 10, I called to make reservations the Saturday before without any problems. Came here with a group of friends and their family on a Saturday night. It was emptier than we had expected, but it was nice for us as our tables were right in the center of the restaurant. They have a nice selection of rotating craft beers. There is a board on the brick wall with the list of crafts available, along with a monitor above the bar. They do offer samples if you are not sure which craft to order. I tried two and ended up ordering the Bottle Logic Fest of Times. Cali Love Burger Pepper jack cheese, arugula, chipotle aioli, avocado, tomato, bacon, served on a brioche bun The plates are served with house cut potato chips and pickle by request. However, one can substitute House-cut fries or sweet-potato tots, brussel sprouts, side salad, or cole slaw. A majority of the table opted for brussel sprouts, which was delicious! They were thin, crispy layers with lots of flavors. Brussel sprouts chips. I had originally envisions it the brussel sprouts to be cut in half and roasted in the oven. 16. A quaint and rustic spot in downtown Covina. Downtown Covina is a great little "strip" with a lot of different businesses and eateries. The free parking and cleanliness makes it well worth a visit.
