This place used to be one of our favorite places. They had great food and quality service, but everything has gone WAY downhill. The last couple times we have been in the restaurant we have had to wait 10+ minutes to be greeted by waitstaff, and then we have waited over an hour for our food. One of those times we had to walk out of the place because the server chose to ignore us rather than being honest and telling us what was going on. Meanwhile we watched people who came in after us get served, finish eating, and leave. We had to leave because my fiance had to go to work, and he did not get dinner that night. The food used to be really good too. The sandwiches would come out perfect, with crispy bacon, and the tots would have a slight crisp. I can easily say the last 4-5 times we have been there everything has been slightly soggy and has come out cold. We have decided to stop going here because there is just a lack of service and care with the food. It is unfortunate because it was one of our favorite places. I do not recommend this place, at least for now. There seems to be some kind of change in business plan, management, or services causing a problem. Maybe in time this will change. read more

So, I've revisited this place twice in the last two months. Once with my boss and once with my husband. It had been awhile since my first visit and my boss wanted to go out to eat. He had never been here and I hadn't been in a long while, so, hey boss, let's go here... hoping I'm making the right choice. Whew!! He ordered the spicy Turkey sandwich and I got the goat cheese pizza. So, neither one of our corporate cards worked and the dude was clueless who was ringing us up, my boss had to use his personal card. I had clearly told the guy at the register the meal was for here but we received our food at the table as to-go packaging. Regardless, the food was delicious!! My boss is definitely going to give me a raise just for letting him in on the secret of how good this place is. Just kidding, my company doesn't do raises for food appreciation, lol! So, about three weeks later I met my hubs for a 2PM lunch after we had both been fasting for 24 hours. Obviously, we're ravenous! We both ordered burgers and fries. I got the goat cheese and fig burger and he got the guacamole bacon burger without the guacamole (don't ask). Maybe we were starving or maybe the burgers were that good, I'm going with the latter. Isn't there supposed to be pineapple chutney inside it? ***Update*** Management is very proactive at addressing complaints. I order a sandwich that comes with a dipping sauce but by the time i got home I noticed the dipping sauce was in my bag. I called business and they said come back for the sauce and I said " then my food would be cold so will you replace my order" and the hostess response was "NO we wont do that". this is a French sandwich which goes with AU-jus dip. good food but horrible serci if a mistake is made by them. read more

Been here a few times now, once for lunch and twice for dinner. They have an extensive beer menu including hard to find bottled and canned beers.m, from near and far. Recently I had the Big Dill which is your typical sourdough/cheddar grilled cheese with sliced pickles on it. Not too greasy which I like. The Mac and cheese is ok, I like cheddar in mine but theirs is strictly a white cream based sauce with large shell pasta and a crunchy top. The skillet tots are ok too, some places you can get better tots. The flatbread pizzas are not too bad either, lots of toppings and soft but crispy flatbread. I'd give them a try read more

They have really really good sandwiches I would definitely recommend the sandwiches and the burgers! But I tried the pizza and it is literally the worst pizza I have ever eaten it was worse then Chuck E. Cheese pizza! Like way way worse the crust was undercooked but some how stale and hard, the cheese was chewy and had a very bad flavor, and the worse part was the sauce. I don't no what it was but that was the most disgusting sauce I have ever had I really don't think they should sell that pizza this is the first pizza in my life I have tried and was totally in eatable. Great find in Anchorage before flying to Seattle. Service was great, and so was the food. We got the bacon/chicken/ranch grilled cheese and the Hello Basil, a grilled cheese with pesto, tomato and mozzarella. I have been to Bread & Brew so many times I can't even count them anymore. In such a short time it has become one of my favorite places in town. The staff is absolutely lovely! They are always so kind and happy when I come in. Because I have visited fairly regularly, I have tried most of the items on the menu. I highly recommend their Chili in a bread bowl, Apple & Bacon Grilled Cheese- that comes with a small cup of tomato soup for dipping and Gouda Sliders after 4pm. Bread and Brew is pretty nice. I'm not a beer drinker--so I'm automatically out of reviewing half the name--but the bread was good. Atmosphere is, by their own words, hipster and very niche. Ceramic wolf heads line the top of the bar, underground mainstream music (think Twenty-One Pilots, Miike Snow, and Portugal. the Man), and teardrop chandeliers provide much of the light supplementing the natural illumination from the windows. The wall behind the bar is covered in a stone brick lay, with bottles of decorative wine across from the tap. Unfortunately, the space is fairly small, and lacks any form of privacy, being a bit echo-y. Service was great. All the times I have been here--once fairly close to closing--the waitstaff have been attentive, friendly, and helpful in explaining food. Also, they have a jug of water on every table, which is an immediate plus for me. I haven't tried much here, but I will give an in-depth breakdown of what I have. The "Sliders So Gouda" ($14): overcooked beef (severely dry and over peppered) but that was belied by the sudden burst of melted gouda (delightful, melty, savory) from within the tiny patties. The buns were a bit firm (might have been out for a while), but paired with a delightful caramelized onion jelly and and fresh rocket. All in all, for something that was on their specialties section, I was rather disappointed. The "Philly Beer Cheese" ($13): AMAZING. Rich slices of steak were coated in a delicious cheese sauce--presumably beer filled--with freshly sautéed onions and crunchy green peppers, bursting out of a roll, topped off with more cheese (provolone). It also came with some house made potato chips, which were delightfully crunchy. I would most definitely order this again! The "Great White Buffalo" ($12): Good. The buffalo chicken was flavorful, but a bit dry, though the amount of bleu cheese dressing and melted cheese (cheddar & pepper jack) made up for that. The sourdough bread okay, didn't really amaze me or anything. I am head over heels for sourdough, and this bread did not disappoint, but it did not wow me either. The sandwich came out with a small cup of tomato soup. Probably would order this again. Prices are pretty fair, but it depends on the item as well. It definitely depends on the serving size, but the portions are generally very generous. Also, they offer to make their sandwiches as a wrap or gluten free with NO EXTRA CHARGE. This place is a decent joint for a lunch date, or meeting up with friends. All in all, a good experience, and I wouldn't mind hitting it up again. Stopped here for a late lunch. Dining room is clean (it's brand new) bathrooms you have to walk through part of the kitchen and server station to get to... odd. First impression, not so good. The 'bartenders' hair was not pulled up or back, gross and violation of health code since she brought us our food. Got the French dip and spicy turkey. Sandwiches were mediocre at best. For 12-13$ a sandwich you'd think you'd get chips or something with it. Nope! You'd think napkins and silverware at least... nope! Had to reach behind the bar to the napkin dispenser. This restaurant is a hidden gem! If it weren't for yelp I would have no idea it even existed. They have an impressive sandwich selection and sides. Great for picky or adventurous eaters and reasonable pricing for speciality sandwiches of large portions. I couldn't eat my whole sandwich but didn't want to throw it away. So this place was interesting. It took forever to get our drinks. But the food is delicious. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate it n 8. Coming from Cali, I'm expecting things to come fast and to have people direct me to my table. But not here, you seat yourself and prepare to wait. They didn't even offer me water. I had to wait for water after waiting 20 minutes for my good. The food is delicious, so I guess it balances out. If I ever come came back here again I hope they have waitresses or waiters there to help me to a table. And be eager to be more social able. I wanted to give this place a second try cause of its good reviews but it was another mediocre meal. I ordered the french dip and truffle fries. The dip was to perfumed with herbs almost inedible and the au jus was a cup of oil like the first order. The fries were soggy and poorly seasoned. The cost of this was over $40 and at that price should have been amazing it atleast memorable in a good way. I spent two nights in Anchorage and actually ended up eating here twice because it was so good. Came for the reindeer chili and stayed for the tots. Everything I tried was gluten free so can't speak for the regular bread or pizza, but can say that their gluten free pizza and sandwiches surprisingly do not seem gluten free. The reindeer sausage sandwich and Ruben are both excellent. The reindeer chili is what got me coming back for more (the truffle tater tots may have had something to do with it as well). And I should also mention the excellent selection of beers and brews from both Alaska and all over the world. The mead was a unique offering but I would only recommend it to those who like a sweet drink. I thought it was delicious. Same goes for the passion fruit cider--delicious but very sweet. We really enjoyed this little place! It was uber crowded. It was a little loud because so many people were crammed in this little place. However, the food was quick. Everything was fresh. My cheese dip for the pretzel was fabulous. The pretzel was a little harder than I like. I really expected more from the truffle fries! The food is good but, nothing extraordinary! Every time we come here, each time is worse and worse. I decided to finally try Bread & Brew again after 6+ months, and I'm out $40 for a $14 sandwich I threw away, $5 French fries I had cook in my oven, and $5 Mac and cheese that got thrown away too. 1st - The $14 Rueben I got was the worst I have ever had. The corned beef was so dry and hard I couldn't chew it, the bread was absolute mush it was so soggy, and about a tablespoon of sauerkraut. 2nd - $5 to substitute store bought chips with a handful of cold, soggy fries?! Unreal. 3rd - The Mac and cheese might as well be listed as puréed baby food. Pasta was so overcooked it was mush, and the soggy bread crumbs on top certainly didn't help. I couldn't even get my 12 year old to eat it. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because my $.50 side of ranch was good with the pretzel. read more

The food is good, the service is awful. Their summer blue salad is amazing! As well as their flatbreads. However, our dirty plates sat in front of us for a good 20 mins until I asked them to take them away while we waited for dessert. I was never offered a refill on my drink. I would call this more of a Lunch Spot - but some folks like it (obviously) for dinner. Yes, they have Pizza. But they seem to specialize in Sandwiches and other "bread" items more than that. With that said - the Truffle Fries are GREAT. Perfectly seasoned, and not over cooked. Just the right hint of cheese and truffle. There beer cheese is tasty, but the place feels a bit ... hipster sports bar I guess. Reminds me of a number of "hip" places down south that go for a certain urban hip vibe, a menu that is good and tasty, but not huge - with "niche" type foods (the large number of grilled cheeses here). I'm NOT the person to go to for reviews of the "brew" portion of things, but I was hearing no complaints - and have heard nothing but positive along those lines so I'll take it on faith. I'll be back, with the right "crowd" probably as a lunch place. It is worth checking out. And I suspect it might become a hangout for some folks. read more

I had their Stupid Good sandwich with double turkey and no ham with truffle fries. Now those truffle fries were stupid good with their sauces, I could of kept eating those all night. The sandwich on the other hand looked really good but the bread was hard as a brick when biting into it. So it was very dry even with the sauce on it, I had to ask for some mayo. My waitress was really nice but not very on point with drink refills or checking on me. They weren't very busy, I think she had me and maybe one other table. The place is really cute and a good vibe but lacking in a few areas. I was really looking forward to this sandwich from how it looked but ended up picking the second half apart and ate the meat and cheese. One lady left with a boxed flat bread pizza and 2 to-go bags before me and ordered her food at least 15 minutes after me. Finally I walked to the counter and asked for the status of my order. Terrible service and average food. We attempted to order beers when we ordered our food and was told to order at the bar. There's a sign that states if there's no bartender , see front counter for service. Well, there was a bartender who ignored us. No hello, smile, eye contact, nothing. When I asked about ordering drinks she said to order at the front. we told her they said to order here. So she took our order, asked for ID..."AK state law" (we are well over forty with gray hairs 49 and 60). my ID was in the car so I cancelled my beer bc of her attitude. She made a big production about having to go to the front to get change. I was done. Sandwich was ok. mushroom soup tasted great but Luke warm. will not go back. crappy customer service means no return for me.
