I travel to Anchorage every month and try to get out as much as I can. My friend and I decided to check this place out. Bread and Brew; it must be a bakery and a brewery, what a concept! It was neither. When you first walk in, you're greeted by a box of menus, a Door Dash Driver waiting on their order and the aisle that takes you to the ordering window. To the left was an empty bar with a line of beer taps that looked like a good selection. For ordering, you have to know the menu beforehand because you only get a few seconds to browse the menu before you're at the ordering window. I quickly chose the Ruben because it was the day before St. Patrick's day. I asked what the sandwich comes with and was told Chips. I then asked if I could substitute with fries. "No, I'm sorry. But you can order them on the side." said the nice guy behind the register. "So, I'd have chips and Fries?" I asked. "Yes" he said. I was feeling a little starchy, so what the heck. I took his suggestion and made them the truffle fries. I ordered a soda to wash my starchiness down. He handed me a 16oz paper coke cup and said "it's refillable." Thanks Capt. Obvious, I'd still refill even if it were against the rules. I'm a rebel. I paid with a card. It asked for a tip at a self serve window. I was torn. I split the difference and left 10% instead of my normal 20% I leave for average service. I was given a number tower and I took my seat. My friend ordered a cheese steak and a tomato soup. The food came within a reasonable time. The food came on plates, but it might as well been plastic baskets. This place tries to hard to be trendy. Underwhelming. A few slices of corned beef deli slices that could have been bought pre packaged at Carrs, normal chips, and truffle fries that I suspect are really Parmesan fries. They left the 18in tall number tower after they served the food. I don't know why. My buddy's cheesesteak and soup came out shortly after. The giant number towers still remained. I still found no purpose for them other that to obstruct my view. Also, average food. We had no follow up service asking how things were. The food was Ok. Just OK. Nothing special. Maybe there was something stellar on the menu but I only had a few seconds to review it. If I could summarize this visit it would be; Bar food, fast food service and restaurant prices. Someone next to me must have had 45 seconds to look at the menu because they ordered a cream soda float that looked delicious. If go back, I'll get one. But I doubt will return. read more

I absolutely love the food here. They have a really hard-working staff that genuinely care about what they're making and who they're helping. I love how they support local, and use quality products. The food comes out pretty fast but you just have to be aware that it's a sandwich shop, it's not intended for large parties or a quick lunch but they can accommodate and really try to provide the best service. I recommend ordering to go online, or going not on the lunch rush if your in a hurry. They try their best to give you an accurate time estimate they will call you when your food is ready to pick up. I ate Artichoke spin, truffle tots and Philly beer cheese almost everyday for a few months when I worked there. ( I asked them to chop up the philly meat and veggies really fine like a true philly and add jalapeño spread with xtra provolone- trust me- it's great!) Also,they hands down have the best burger in town! Also it's really important to tip the staff because there are hard-working people with families and dreams. Most people do not tip them! The front staff split the tips and the absolutely deserve it. Sometimes people left tips on the table after they eat because they see the food is just so good. The chicken ranch grilled cheese was good. The rest of our order was mediocre, as was the customer service. We had two orders of fries that were cold. My order was HALF cooked! I've visited Anchorage twice and I've eaten here 3x. The Buffalo chicken grill cheese was terrific. It comes with a side of tomato basil soup ... I don't usually like tomato soup or basil, but it was delicious! The French dip and Caesar were also great! It's sandwiches and pizza and comfort food. If I could give this place a 0 I would. My office ordered take out for lunch. The sandwiches were mediocre at best. 1) Toasted cheese sandwich barely had any cheese and was served with a tiny ramekin of soup. 2) Italian Hoagie was served on horrifically stale bread. You could barely put your finger through it. My coworker couldn't even finish his sandwich. 3) Stupid Good sandwich was missing ham and jalapeños 4) so Gouda sliders & mac n cheese were ok. The concept is very cool. It's a comfortable environment. I had the French dip and a bite of my friends grilled cheese. Both were very good. I loved the tomato soup dipper that went with the grilled cheese. The beef on the French dip was yummy as was the au jus. Living about 10 minutes away the location is convenient. A very solid 4 stars. Their peanut butter pie is scrumptious. It was quite tasty. Didn't give it 5 stars because I rarely do unless there is a super WOW factor. It was all good food. Pretty good. Had the cage and tumble. Visiting from the SF Bay Area where there are plenty of food snobs. This place would do well in the nay area also. I will say at $12 it felt like being in the bay area, but the food was good. I was here off peak hours, but staff was engaged and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. World Cup on TVs. An updated review in February 2018: Was much more impressed this visit. They still had a very clean environment and the staffed seemed a lot more on the ball. I sat at the bar and was greeted and served very fast. The food was amazing. We got a pizza (well worth the price), Pot Tots! - great and the bartender provided the house and other sauce. He stated that it's not normal to get with but wanted us to try them as they are very popular. One was a honey mustered style that I enjoyed the other was a house (i think to be a ranch/mix) The sandwiches we got last time looked to be filled more and possibly larger. I might have to try them again next time and see. We left full this time and satisfied. The beer selection on tap is great and they have a large number of local brews that anyone would love. I highly recommend coming down and checking it out now and even if it looks busy you will not have to wait long. 1st review in 2017 : Very close location to my home. But was disappointed thanks so much for so little food. It's tomato soup and grilled cheese I guess if you're drunk you wouldn't notice that you paid $15 for two slices of dry bread. I have heard nothing but great reviews and I myself am a grilled cheese connoisseur and had to make it a point to stop in and try. Amazing food with great variety! Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free, with only a few exceptions. Staff is very knowledgeable about ingredients and they even brought me their "world famous" Bloody Mary with a gluten free grilled cheese garnish. I have a love hate relationship with this place. This place is nearly perfect, but has on flaw that I can never forgive. I hesitate to say as the pain is too great, but here it goes. They only server soup du jour on Friday. Which is totally barbaric and nearly unacceptable considering how amazing it is. Ok now that the negative is out of the way let us focus on the positive. Food is amazing any item with the word truffle is a must have, and they have mastered the craft of sandwiches. I could bring my family of eight here and have seating and everyone would leave happy and full. Their beer list goes on forever, and I can not stress enough if one visits this establishment, and does not get the beer cheese and pretzel they have never really lived their life. Great venue with a nice clean menu to choose from. I had the buffalo chicken grilled cheese and was not disappointed. While a little messy, the flavors coming from the grilled cheese are on point. Highly suggest to give it a try. Afterwards, I had the garlic pretzel with beer cheese. The pretzel was light and fluffy and will test your pallet with the contrast of flavors. Great meal. First visit. Greeted by Rene who was my server and very pleasant to deal with after a long day at work. The ambiance and decor was nice. Tried the Great White Buffalo chicken/grilled cheese sandwich and the Truffle fries. The sandwich was gooey-er than expected, but was oh-so-good! The truffle fries were luke warm after I had 1/3 of my sandwich and probably didn't help, but I found them unexceptional and I wasn't a big fan of the two sauces. I would probably not order them again. All-in-all, an asset to mid-town. As an out-of-towner, I had several recommendations, and I really wanted to like this restaurant. I ordered an OG grilled cheese and asked to add well-done bacon. As the server was about to enter the order, I reminded her again..WELL DONE. After an inordinate amount of time, my sandwich came out with..NOT well done bacon. It took a while to catch someone's attention to get my order fixed. As I waited, sitting at the bar, I could see in the reflection of the windows the goings-on in the kitchen. One of the cooks was using a dirty rag to wipe down stuff, in-between handling the sandwiches with the same gloves on. He was also snacking on stuff as he was plating some meals. After another 10 minutes of waiting and no one giving me a status, I just walked out. If you want to charge 8 bucks for a cheese sandwich (fries are another $4), perhaps you need to revisit the basics of "made to order". This place is awesome! Had a great selection of beers on tap, had lots of wine too if that's your thing. The food isn't super filling but it's perfect if you're tying to catch a good beer with a light eat. Their main thing is unique grilled cheese sandwiches. There's other things on the menu but this is what they specialize it. A friends wife was partial to the dill pickle grilled cheese so I gave that a whirl and loved it! Great place for everyone. Unfortunately a man at the table across from us pulled out a knife and slit his throat in an attempt to take his life. I got the jalapeno popper grilled cheese and words can't even describe how perfect it was, sooo good. It also came with a small side of tomato soup that was probably the best I've had! I've had three of their sandwiches (the jalapeno popper, the aloha and the french dip) and all have been outstanding. Each of the ones I've had have been filling and delicious. The decor of the place is modern-casual (is that even a thing?) and welcoming. The service from the team is just as outstanding as their sandwiches. Ok, this is now my second visit. First time was during the work week and you order at counter and they give you a number for your table. Weekends you just grab a table and servers come to you. I had the down lo this time and it was great. My son had the jalapeno popper and liked it better than the chicken bacon ranch on our first visit. Continued great customer service and food. I asked for a small box for the other half of my sandwich and it was huge. Guess that is the only size they have. Might consider smaller boxes. We came here to try it out. The food was good, but there was like one waitress for the entire floor at the time we went. The service wasn't super great, but she had a few tables to manage so I don't know that I can blame the waitress for that. The sandwiches were good. I had the jalapeño popper and my only complaint was that it was pretty small and it did not come with any chips. My boyfriends sandwich came with chips so not sure about that. We ordered a side of fries and they were not really warm or that good. I'm glad they only cost around 3 bucks because I don't think they are worth more then that.
