    Chilaquiles

I've been here a handful of times and the food is relatively consistent. Pancakes are good, the service is alright. Chilaquiles are usually my go to. I ordered them today with the $6 add on carne asada and it was disappointing. I could've gone to a taco stand, bought 3 asada tacos for $6, and the meat would've been probably 3-4 times what I got, better quality, and well seasoned. I probably won't be back here for a while, since I'm not in the area to constitute it, but I'm really bummed out over the portioning.

It was our family's first time here, and the food was good. I had the chilaquiles, the kids had the Oreo cookie pancakes, and my husband had the breakfast bacon mac 'n' cheese. We all agreed the Oreo cookie pancakes were the best! The service could have been better. Our server didn't check on us much, and I had to flag her down a few times. It seemed like they were short-staffed. Overall, we enjoyed the food.

The theming of chickens everywhere was amazing. The food was just amazing. Service was spot on for being a busy Sunday morning. Never felt like we were being rushed and the vibe was a nice balance between a lazy Sunday morning and having a nice start to the week. If you're in the mood for something different then come here. I got the Mr. Presley French toast which pairs banana, peanut butter and French toast together you can't imagine anything better.

Really really cute small breakfast spot! I ordered the Portuguese Linguisa Sausage Omelette and it was so flavorful! I love how they had a generous amount of butter and jam for your toast. I also love their ketchup style sauce and hot sauce they have on the side. Additionally, their bottomless cafe de olla was perfect! Not too sweet! The server was also incredibly nice and was constantly coming over to make her everything was okay. We came on a Tuesday morning and there was no wait. It may be different on the weekends though.

Breakfast with an eclectic and trendy atmosphere decorated in quirky touches! If you like the energetic vibe, this is your place. Pull up a barstool and be a fly on the wall/people watch or step inside for a dining experience. This was my second visit here. The first time I had the Strawberry Cheesecake pancakes which were very good, a few more splashes of the cheesecake cream would have given it less dry texture. With that in mind, I don't eat syrup, so you could add that. This time we had the Mr. Presley, definitely the highlight of the meal. Do you love peanut butter and bacon? Then this is calling your name! Peanut butter rolled into the French toast and topped with bacon goodness! That sweet and savory combination that so many of us love. We also had the yogurt bowl, I know so vanilla right? Topped with fresh strawberries, banana slices, granola, toasted coconut, and other toppings, but it was pretty standard. That was to be expected. Finally, we had the Protein Lover Omelet with egg whites only. Based on the name, I expected it to be packed with different meats, but there really wasn't much meat inside. The eggs were fluffy, breakfast potatoes crispy but cold, and a side of sourdough. My meat lover omelette became a meat lover mystery... missing portions of bacon, ham, or sausage to match the description. A little about the service. Our waitress was friendly, prompt and gave us the extra time we needed to decide, which was nice because there's nothing worse than feeling pressured to make a decision. Overall, the place is creative and so are the menu options. A little about parking. Parking is behind the restaurant and can get full by 10 am on the weekends, so plan to go earlier if you want to try a weekend brunch date. Final take. The French toast alone is worth coming back for and I'd definitely return to try more of their sweet breakfast dishes!

If you are traveling through Costa Mesa/Irvine, don't pass this cute breakfast joint up. We looked for a place for breakfast before heading out of town and found Breakfast Republic. When you first walk up to the front of the restaurant, there is a nice indoor/outdoor bar. Perfect place to sit if the weather permits. The only downside may be the traffic noise behind you. They have a gift shop counter as you walk in with their branded sauces, shirts, hats and more. The host told us to sit wherever we wanted. We chose a high top near the bar. Our server Alejandra was very friendly and attentive. Always smiling. She checked in on us constantly all while juggling several tables. I ordered the Chilaquiles plus carne asada with 3 poached eggs. It came on a huge plate. It was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Rice & beans delicious as was the chips and sauce. My husband ordered the Jalapeño bacon cheddar sausage scramble with house potatoes. He said it was very good. We really liked the atmosphere and food and will definitely make our way back when in town. We also loved their BP ketchup and hot sauce so much we purchased bottles to go. Overall we had a nice experience at Breakfast Republic.

I thoroughly enjoyed my American breakfast with the usual...scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, diced potatoes, etc. I sat at a cozy table on the side, one step up from the main floor and next to some funky chicken wallpaper. My meal was nicely presented. The jelly for the toast was a little "thin" but tasty. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent breakfast spot in Costa Mesa. We stopped by this morning around 9:45 am - parking was tight but we found a spot, and there was a 30 minute wait so we sat on the patio and ordered our food and drinks. My matcha latte was excellent, and the Hot Chick Benedict (a new addition to the menu) was tasty and filling. My friends enjoyed their food too. Bill for 5 people (before tax and tip) was $110. Happy to return.

Saturday around 11am: no wait, but the place was full and lively. It has a trendy, welcoming vibe whether you're coming solo, with friends, or with family. Everyone on staff was friendly, including our server. The pricing felt fair for the portion size. I'd recommend it to locals, or anyone nearby looking for a casual spot to meet a friend or coworker. The food was mediocre, but I'd return and give it another try if I was in the neighborhood and there was no wait. One suggestion for the owner: find a way to ensure the food comes out hot and ready--some items (eggs, bacon, etc.) were cold to lukewarm.

I ate at this location of the breakfast chain on a weekday morning. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant which has plenty of spots but I see how it can get full on weekends. I was seated right away; it wasn't very busy. My eyes quickly moved to the french toast section of the menu. I decided on the Mr. Presley (peanut butter stuffed french toast topped with bananas foster and crumbled bacon. I also ordered a hot latte. The french toast consisted of two pieces which were folded over with gobs of peanut butter inside of each. The taste of peanut butter prevailed with the bacon providing a salty balance with the sweet of the banana slices. I quite enjoyed it. The latte was very good, silky-smooth and served at an immediately drinkable temperature. Service was friendly and attentive. It has a vibe of a relaxed, neighborhood restaurant where you're treated like family.

The food was great! Super tasty and good size portions. Everything tasted and looked as expected. The served was almost perfect. It took a little bit to order, but other than that, the rest of the experience was pleasant. The restaurant is indoor and outdoor with nice decorations, it was clean, and welcoming. The orange was insane, btw. Get it.

    Do they take reservations?

    They do not. Walk-in only!

    Are you dog friendly?

They have patio seatings in the front of the restaurant and side as well. I've taken my pup several times in the past.

    Are there gluten free options?

Hi! How long is the wait usually on a late Sunday morning? Thanks in advance!

Unless you go super early, waits can be 45min-1hr depending on party size.

If I plan to come with a party of 10 is it best to call ahead or just walk up?

You can but they don't take reservations.

Does this place take reservations on the weekends or is it first come first serve?

Hi Jackie, yes unfortunately we do not take reservations. We are a walk-in only restaurant.

Bottomless mimosas? And are Saturday's part of brunch ? Or only Sunday's?

Unfortunately bottomless mimosas are not available any day

How long does a phone order take? I was placed for 20 mins on hold and no one ever picked up, I could hear them in the background talking

Hi Corina, I apologize for the experience as that is very unusual. Our take-out calls should not…

Has anybody been there on a Friday morning for breakfast?

    Yes but it is limited.

We've been here a few times before and always thought it was decent. So, we made the last minute reservation online and got here 15 minutes early. When we arrived, there was a short line, but per the reservation instructions, one of my friends went in to check in while we waited outside. Friend: Hi, I'm checking in for a reservation. Bartender: What time is your reservation. Friend: 10 Bartender: What time is it now? Friend: 9:45 Bartender: Then I'll see you at 10pm. Friend came back annoyed and explained what happened. The bartender didn't say it in a joking way, but with attitude and annoyance. Most staff would respond "Thank you for checking in, we will let you know when your table is available." We weren't going to let this ruin our night, so we waited and were seated by the hostess. The bar itself is dimly lit and very tight. The music was loud enough that we had to almost yell to hear each other. The waiter came by soon after and was extremely friendly. We said we'd been here a few times before, but it's been a while. He refreshes our memory by saying they specialize making variations of classics. They want customers to focus on the flavors and that's why the menu doesn't list the spirit in their drinks. Also, they only make drinks on the menu because their drinks are prebatched/premade. We ask for recommendations which he was happy to give. We each order a drink and a snack for the table. As we're talking (very loudly so we can hear each other), we lose track of time before we realize that it's been 20 minutes and we haven't gotten our drinks yet. For something that's prebatched, it shouldn't take long. Before we can flag down the waiter, he comes by and apologizes that they lost our order and had to put it back in. We appreciate the honesty and say it's no problem. 5 minutes later, our drinks and food arrives. He again apologizes for the wait and has a second order of our food that he's including for free. Honestly we were ok with just the apology, but extra food too? Hell yea. Sounds like it was turning around. The drinks were okay. Not amazing, but definitely above average 3.8 / 5. The snack, bread and butter, were surprisingly good. 4.5 / 5 When we asked for the check, the waiter brought the credit card reader and told us we can swipe our card any time and left it on our table. We look at the bill and realize the waiter not only gave us the 2nd snack for free, but comp'd 2 of the drinks also. We all agree this waiter is GREAT. So why the 2 stars? Well first let me say, I would leave it at 1 star, but the waiter definitely earned them another. We wanted to pay cash, so we waited for him to come back. Instead, the original rude bartender comes by and realizes we haven't paid yet. We ask if we can pay with cash. He explains that they don't accept cash. Friend: Are you sure? *Proceeds to try to insert cash into the chip reader slot* Bartender: You're pretty stupid, aren't you? Friend: Maybe if I swipe it instead *Doubles down and proceeds to swipe the cash through the magnetic strip reader* Bartender: Wow, you really are stupid. My friend is a 100% a goofball and having fun with the bartender. It was OBVIOUS that he was joking. Was it funny? A little. Was it stupid? 100%. But for the bartender or ANY customer service staff to call a paying customer "stupid", that's simply unacceptable. We're all pretty pissed at this point and simply swipe the card and the bartender leaves. As I said earlier, we've come here a few times. We don't live especially close, but when we're in the area, we would always consider coming here. Now, there's no chance. For any business, even if your drinks and food are great, customer service can easily DESTROY your experience and that's exactly what the bartender did. Note to the male bartender with no hair: You really shouldn't be interacting with customers. You were rude from the start and have no sense of humor. Could you be having a bad day? Sure, but that's not an excuse to be rude to customers. I know management saw my original post because it was removed, probably because I referred to the bartender by his hairstyle multiple times. If they rather remove my post than deal with their bartender, that's another sign to avoid this place.

(Update: the staff was very nice and let me know that the other side might tow on weekends!) Even though I don't drink alcohol, I thought it was very cool with the Hawaiian themes and there were so many cool cocktails. Apparently there's a speakeasy in this bar too. The food was very good as we got burgers, sandwiches, onion rings and ice cream. Our servers were very nice and attentive. Food came out quickly and it wasn't too loud. No complaints and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice to place to eat and drink.

Stowaway has the near perfect blend of high end tiki mixed with what I call the "brewers dive bar"…read more Disguised in a dumpy looking strip mall is one of the better tiki experiences I have had. Is it as high end and bougie as Strong Water? No. Does it tickle your fancy and offer a wonderful experience that even your kids can enjoy? Absolutely! Kids- yes they are welcome. In fact mine had the time of their life. Just don't be those parents and bring them after 7. It is a tiki bar after all and unless they follow the rules of Arrested Development then let them chill at home with grandma and grandpa or maybe their weird Uncle Joe. Drink- Delightful. Very fun themed glassware. Presentations were beautiful and well thought out. Our server did a great job at recommending drinks that built on top of the previous one. Food- the weakest part of the experience. While certainly not bad however when compared to the rest of the experience it just was a bit lacking. The Loco Moco looked very nice. The patty was quite dry though. Yes there's gravy but that's not an excuse for a dry patty. Mac salad was very nice. Stowaway fries were fun and tasty. It is smothered in gravy so be prepared to lose the crispy fries about halfway into the dish. All in all I (and my wife and kids(before7) and weird Uncle Joe) will be back.
