Breakfast Republic has a few locations in the San Diego area. We came here on a Saturday around 10am the wait was already pretty long. Almost an hour and a half, but we didn't mind since we walked around Liberty Market and had a few snacks, coffee, and beer. This was my first time coming here so I wasn't sure what to expect. I think I was pretty shocked at how small the inside of the restaurant was, but they do have a fairly large outdoor patio area. It ended up being around a 2 hour wait when we were finally seated. // FOOD // Steak 'N' Eggs: 6 oz skirt steak, cilantro chimichurri sauce, served with bacon hash browns, 3 eggs any style, and your choice of bread. Who doesn't love steak and eggs?! I had to order this once I saw it on the menu. The whole wooden plate is pretty to the eye and all of the components of this dish were beautifully placed. The steak was on the lighter side in terms of salt, but the chimichurri sauce helped. The bacon hash browns weren't too flavorful and I wish they were a bit more crispy. Presented beautifully, but I've had better steak and eggs for half the price. $19 Jurassic Pork Benedict: Poached eggs served over sourdough English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce and served with house potatoes. Thick-cut bacon on a benedict! Who can resist? The hollandaise was pretty good, but I wish the bacon had a crunch to it. It would have been a better contrast in textures if it was crispy. $12 Overall, I was impressed with the wait for this place, but the food definitely fell short for me. I've had much better breakfast without the wait. The two dishes and splitting a bottle of champagne and OJ came out to around $55. Slightly pricey for mediocre food. Be warned, not sure about the inside, but if you sit at the outside patio, expect your conversation to be interrupted by a loud ass plane flying over every 5 minutes or less. PARKING: We parked at the big lot probably about two blocks down. Not bad if you're not lazy. SERVICE: The waiter was probably busting too many tables at once because the service was lacking. Still, that's no excuse. FOOD: I got the Jurassic pork Benedict. Freakin bomb! The portion size was perfect for a petite girl like me who finished the entire thing. For a good sized dude, I'd say order a side of pancakes or something to fill your appetite. Speaking of that, we also got the Flight of Pancakes. Best one is the Oreo! Waited 2 hours to seat my table for 10. I work in service. They turn their tables 3 times outside. I expected more from the hosting staff. No coordination at all. Manager was not even made aware of the situation until the very last minute. Would not recommend large groups eating here. Luckily the Market next door was more accommodating. Almost ruined my morning outing. Update: After reading the response from the business owner himself, I will never eat at Breakfast Republic again. The food is just average at Breakfast Republic, when I come I order the breakfast burrito which is decent. There is always a wait and the front of house is quite disorganized (especially with to-go orders). The North Park location has better service and a nicer atmosphere. The most memorable dishes we ordered were the shrimp and grits (almost comparable to shrimp and grits from New Orleans) and Mr. Presley (whose bananas foster on top of the french toast tasted as good as the ones from New Orleans). I'll start off by saying that I'm pretty biased to love this place. A couple of my friends have raved about Breakfast Republic for months, though I think they have only been to the North Park location. Sadly, my first visit to Breakfast Republic (Liberty Station) was less than stellar. The Wait: I went on a Sunday, so it was understandably a busy day. For a table of two, we were given an estimate of a 45-60 minute wait to be seated. It ended up taking 1 hr and 40 minutes. Their method of calling names seemed a bit unsatisfactory given the huge waitlist (which I imagine is not unusual for any given weekend). The restaurant is positioned in a sort of outdoor hallway, so it becomes a bit echoey and noisy, and with the amount of people you'll probably find yourself settling in a ways away from the front door. I can't imagine that more than the small handful of people gathered right outside of the entrance could hear names called without difficulty. Breakfast Republic had no buzzer or call/text option. The Food: The food was pretty good, but unfortunately it was served pretty lukewarm/room temperature. My friend got the pancake flight, and I got the Croque Monsieur with upgraded potatoes. This here was probably my biggest disappointment- I paid an extra $2 for the "upgrade" on my potatoes side. The upgrade includes brussel sprouts and bacon mixed in with the potatoes. The portion I was served was SO tiny. I thought at first that the reason it looked so small must be due to the large plate size, but I then glanced around at other tables where guests had sides of the un-upgraded potatoes, and their portions looked significantly larger. I eventually asked my waitress about it, who did not confirm whether or not my portion looked unusually small, but she did offer to bring out some more for me. The Outdoor Patio: I visited on a pretty chilly day (for San Diego). It was mid 60s with a respectable breeze. We, and several others, were seated on the shady outdoor patio. Despite my jacket, I was pretty cold and asked the waitress about the nearby heat lamp. She said it wasn't on because they ran out of propane that morning. I also overheard another guest ask about the heat lamp. Of course, I have no clue who does the purchasing for their restaurant, or how strict any corporate business rules might be, but this restaurant is located within five minutes walking distance of an Ace Hardware. Seems a little silly that they couldn't make their guests more comfortable, with such an easy solution nearby. So overall, certainly not a terrible experience, but definitely not as great as I had expected. I still have high hopes, and hope to have a better experience in the future! read more

I wish I could rate service and food separately. Three stars may be a stretch here. The service would get 1 star or less for this visit but the food would be a 4+. Our party arrived at 7:45am and we ordered 15 minutes later but our food did not arrive until 9:15. I personally had the crab and crawfish cakes, eggs hollandaise and house potatoes. The food was, as always, fantastic. The service was bad enough that I will not come back to this location even though It's the closest to my job. It seemed as though our server (and manager), Pucci, forgot to put our order in and then finally remembered us. Typically, for a work breakfast, we carve out a good amount of time, but this was ridiculous. There is just no reason to take an hour to serve customers without checking in on them to (a) see if they need anything and (b) let them know that there is a significant wait and possibly why. read more

Checked out this place just before leaving town. The wait was a little over an hour, which I expected showing up at prime time on a Sunday morning. The market is a great place to walk around and kill time while you wait. We informed the hostess that we were trying to catch our flight and she immediately hustled to seat us. The menu is great. I had so much trouble finding what to order. I was there with my family and toddler. They did not have a kids menu, which just gave me an excuse to try another meal that my toddler wouldn't finish anyway. I got the yogurt and cinnamon roll pancakes for me and the kid. Came here for breakfast while on vacation and it was amazing. We came on a monday (presidents day weekend) and there was a wait. We put our names in and waited about an hour. I ordered the the mac n cheese with jurrasic pork bacon. They give a perfect amount. It was filling enough where I didnt feel disgusting after I ate it. I also got the cocky 12 which was an iced cold brew- perfectly done with coffee ice cubes. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. Breakfast for dinner seems to be one of my favorites these days, so when I heard that Breakfast Republic would be open during non-brunch hours I was excited. During non-brunch hours the menu is simplified and the portions are smaller. I went with the French toast sampler and picked banana split, s'mores, and mascarpone and strawberry. I loved all three of my French toasts, but the banana split and s'mores were the clear highlights. There's clearly a lot of TLC that gets put into their meals. My only complaint is that it would be nice to have the option of having the full portion size during non-brunch hours. The mascarpone and strawberry French toast was gone in like two bites. The Breakfast Republic in the Gaslamp, was so good, we had a return engagement at the one in Liberty Station. Same great breakfast. The Eggs Benedict may be the best around, especially with avocado. The coffee is bottomless, hot and very good. The outdoor patio with portable heaters, provide the warmth needed on those cold February mornings. Fast efficient service, catch signs in the restrooms, (look in the sink basin) and great food, make the Breakfast Republic an easy choice for breakfast almost anywhere in San Diego. About half of their tables are out on the patio. Service is good and very friendly. I started my meal with a flight of the antioxidant flight. It was actually better tasting than I thought it would be. They tasted better than V8. The cold brew coffee was really good. This visit I decided to try they Chicken Mango Sausage. I am glad I did as it was very filling and tasted great. The sausage was delicious. I substituted a pancake and it was good. It was fluffy and lite. Overall, it was a great tasting breakfast. One of my favorite breakfast spots! Not only is the food and service good, but the thought that went into the interior design is aesthetically pleasing with a twist of humor. I ordered one of their specials for the month (they have 2 new special dishes every month that you can vote for on their social media pages) which was the Ahi Tuna eggs Benedict.
