Let me start this by saying I know we're all working in a different time and crazy conditions. Having that said, this place was terrible! The server came twice once to take our order and once to give us the check. My brother in laws food was cold and the sauce had congealed . He sent it back. My shrimp were tasteless, fries had no salt. My sangria that was $14 was mostly ice. I would have said something but again, we didn't see an employee. Stop Forrest Stop. Bubba Gump's is a chain and there's just about one in every big city especially where tourists are concerned. In San Francisco it's at the end of Pier 39. In Chicago it's at Navy Pier and in Miami it's at Bayside. Orlando's Bubba Gump is right near the entrance to Universal City Walk which is the prelude of shopping and dining area near the entrance of Universal Studios Orlando. Bubba's is a theme restaurant which revolves and originates around the movie Forrest Gump. Because this movie is over 20 years old there's a good handful of young'uns who have no idea what Forrest Gump even is. While a server comes to the general area and starts asking a bunch of questions about the movie, I was actually shocked at the amount of Gump trivia I actually remembered. If you happen to test the license plate stop and run queue, you'd find that at this particular establishment they are quite aware of flipping the plates to stop or run. What I'm referring to is that on each table is a sign post that has two license plates one saying Stop Forrest Stop and the other saying Run Forrest Run. If you have it at the Stop, any server that notices it will come by and ask if you need help. It's the equivalent of pressing the flight attendant button in your row on a plane. Somebody will eventually come and ask you how they can be of assistance. While this may seem like a gimmick it's actually quite useful. Sure there are always fish fillet options and what not but since we go to a Bubba Gump restaurant so infrequently it's really time for some good old fashion fried fish. I went with the captain's platter and my wife went with the shrimp feast. The service was attentive at this Bubba Gump as they all are seeing as how they have the license plate alerting system, you don't necessarily have to chase down a server if you need more of anything. The food is what it is which is sort of like a Red Lobster minus the lobster but they sure do have a lot of fancy colored drinks to choose from. If you order certain drinks you will be given a voucher to go to the gift shop and pick up a new version of the same glass (plastic cup) your drink was served in. It's a family place, a chain, a tourist trap and fried food all rolled into one. If you haven't seen the movie you should. If you don't happen to ever eat here oh well it's not exactly a life changing experience but it is fun. read more

Lunch is definitely the best time to go to Bubba Gump. My husband and I have attempted to come in for dinner but there is always a long wait. We came in for lunch on Sunday and there was no wait, the service was awesome and quick and the food was tasty. My only complaints are there aren't prices on the menu for drinks and prices for food are pretty pricey. Two drinks and two entrees cost us over $60. If you are looking to splurge then this is a night treat. I had the seafood feast which comes with hush puppies, fried shrimp, fried fish, coleslaw and fries. The fish needed some flavor but thankfully lemon and cocktail sauce took care of that. My husband had a variety of shrimp which included coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, tempura shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp and fries. Each shrimp was paired with a special sauce which my husband loved. I've always wanted to try Bubba Gump Shrimp after seeing it so many times on vacations. I finally got that chance last week after our day at Universal Studios. I knew going into it that I just wanted some peel and eat shrimp. I didn't want anything fancy. I just wanted to eat some shrimp. We ended up getting the large portion of both the cajun and garlic peel and eat shrimp to share. It was a really nice portion and between the 2 of us we still had some leftover. While the cajun flavor was good I think it had a little too much flavor. For that reason I liked the garlic shrimp a little better. They were a lot more mild in flavor. So if the shrimp was good why the 3 star review you ask? It comes down to the service. Now I know City Walk is a busy area but I really don't think a sit down dinner should take 2 hours. No wonder the wait times got pretty long. Our waitress was very nice but the food took way too long. Especially when our table got a salad, peel and eat shrimp, and a sandwich. I don't think any of those things take all that long to make. Even the drinks took forever. I figured we would have an hour wait with a party of 7 at the Universal location but they took us right in and seated us. Our waiter was excellent even though he had at least 5 other tables. He checked on us regularly and we were never in need of anything. For appetizers the calamari was cooked correctly and the spinach dip while acceptable was a bit thin. The coconut shrimp, stuffed shrimp and tilapia were all very good. The kid's meal was another bright spot, pasta fries and fresh fruit. Even the bill was better than I expected. They forget cole slaw which we go back to get after they have just closed, and wait another 10 minutes to get it. The food is disgusting. I've had bubba gump before at other locations. This location has disgusting, inedible food. No flavor, bland, cold, nasty food. At this point it's midnight, nothings open, my toddler is hungry, I am very visibly pregnant and hungry. Wait time went by fairly quick, they'll text you when your table is ready and you can track your spot in line so you can go shop around and do other stuff while you wait. Service was good, they were all nice, quick to address needs, your servers ask you fun little trivia about Forest Gump. The food was really good too and portions were good. Only reason I didn't give a five star was cuz it was a little pricey. But that's to be expected it's a movie related restaurant at Universal Studios. We went on a Sunday before Halloween Horror Nights (busy night). We loved it! Kudos #1) You can join the waitlist on their website or yelp page. I tried it out while shuttling over from the hotel. By the time we arrived, we walked right up to the host, said our name, and got seated. Kudos #2). Their menu is reasonably priced and offers non-seafood options. They are also kid friendly. Kudos #3) The wait staff was very attentive and FUN! They played trivia with us, and made us feel very welcome. Kudos #4) The food was actually pretty good. They are a chain, but the food was tasty, timely, and freshly prepared. A couple of tips.... you can pick up coupons for a free "appetizer of the day" at most tourist areas. Our "app of the day" was artichoke dip. Not too shabby! Also, if you order a specialty drink or alcoholic drink, many of the glasses are included as a souvenir. We all had fried shrimp and the kids opted for the Mac n cheese which he said could be 'substituted'. Failed to mention the upcharge of $3.99! . Fried Shrimp are small and heavily breaded and everyone had such a huge portion we had 24 left! Which was a shame since we were traveling and could not take with us. Not only did he serve us well, towards the end of the meal he did a little trivia game between our table and the one nearest to us about the movie Forest Gump. It was a fun addition to our meal. As for the food, I had the coconut shrimp with cajun marmalade, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes. It was very tasty and the portion was more than sufficient, as I wasn't able to finish it all. My husband had the shrimp po boy sandwich with onion rings. The bread seemed disproportionately thick for the amount of shrimp and toppings. It was like a thick sub with a single layer of shrimp, and a small amount of toppings/condiments. He enjoyed the onion rings though. He also had a watermelon margarita and it was delicious. The nice thing was that it didn't taste like it was very strong but it was deceiving, lol. Our overall experience was great. We also picked up a few fun shirts, and a dress for me, in their gift shop. They were having a 25% off sale on their already reasonable prices. This place has the worst service imaginable!!! If you are at Universal and want a place to eat make sure this is the last place you consider. Wow we received the worst service I think I've ever had. Our waitress literally refused to check on us, get a Coke Zero, and heaven forbid you flip the sign over to stop. Well the movie invited you in and made the restaurant a must see/do experience. Keep in mind, that's a movie, not this restaurant! When my family and I saw the restaurant on Universal's site. We just knew that as our trip finale that we had to eat at this venue to go home with this story. Well that was a mistake from finding hair in my son's food, the overcooked food, and the insensitive manager. We were left feeling terrible and like we made the worst choice of our 5 day vacation! It was terrible, the overcooked food and the location left a lot to be desired! We paid close to $150 for about 4 meals and the cost is not the issue, it was the hair in the food, the food, and the manager and his handling of the situation! Believe me, I'm being honest, terrible place to eat! Don't waste your money and time! And the company probably should look for a better manager!
