To be honest, I didn't have super high expectations for Bubba Gump. It seems kind of like your standard touristy place. But, I thought it was pretty good! The food was good and I think what brought it to a solid 4 stars for me was the great service. Two friends and I went after a long day at Universal. We got there around 7:45pm, and the wait was about 30-40 minutes. It was pretty crowded and loud inside, but that was expected. Shrimper's Heaven 4/5: Pretty good option if you want to try shrimp cooked in different ways. It was a mix of coconut shrimp (3 pieces), grilled shrimp (3 pieces), crispy golden shrimp (5-6 pieces), and tempura shrimp (5-6 pieces). My favorite was the grilled shrimp. The fries weren't super hot/crispy. Service 5/5: Our server was great. We had a really long day and were dealing with some issues with our flight and unfortunately had to be on the phone with customer service for half of our meal. It was a total bummer but our server was very attentive and even came by and asked us some Forrest Gump trivia! Ambiance 4/5: If you're a Forrest Gump fan - this place is great! My dad and I went to the bubba gump in the city walk after a full day at universal studios. We got the calamari as a starter. The breading fell off and the the calamari were rough like rubber. For entrees, I got the "Jenny surf and surf". The shrimp was over cooked and rough, the salmon was a little undercooked and the broccoli was also undercooked. The butter sauce on top was delicious though. My dad got Lt. surf and turf. The ribs were really good and tender. However, the shrimp were also over cooked and tough. Great selection of food. I got Mama Blue's shrimp Gumbo, it was pretty good needed more spice and flavor. The Ribeye is amazing along with the coconut shrimp. The service was horrible. The food was even worse. Jambalaya that looked like it was halfway cooked. As a matter fact, it looks nothing like jambalaya. It tasted like somebody threw water and tomatoes into a pot and called the jambalaya. The shrimp and fish were absolutely horrible and cold. The clam chowder left a disgusting aftertaste. Told the manager he did absolutely nothing about it gave us an attitude charged for our food. We paid and then we left. I would not recommend this place ever. It wasn't even that busy for it to be nasty. I have never in my life had such a bad experience with food. The server was rude, kept scratching his body. Had an I don't care attitude. By the way, they had the nerve to charge nine dollars for 2 cups of soda that were halfway drank. If you want good food, go somewhere else this is not the place to go. I love this place ! Their salmon was wonderful. Alongside with some bourbon sauce. It was phenomenal. I would definitely have the calamari again. The clam chowder was great. Drinks are definitely worth your buck. Got my wife feeling nice and it was just her first drink. For once she called me "handsome" that's how I know she had a good drink. When it says stop, not just your server but any server who sees the sign stops at your table. That worked so well. When we had a need we didn't have to awkwardly raise our hand and wait or try to make an eye contact with busy servers. I wish they implement this service every restaurant. So convenient. I loved this feature. -Interior It was well designed and well themed. Forrest Gump quotes were everywhere. This made me want to watch the movie again. -Overall I would definitely recommend this place. If you are going to stay in universals for long time but want some quality food you can just simply leave universals for lunch or dinner and come back. I never really had the desire to go into this restaurant because I'm just not big on seafood, but my boyfriend wanted to get lunch here so I obliged. We went right when they were opening, 11am on a Friday, and were one of maybe 3 tables seated when we got there. The server was super friendly (I don't remember his name) and even did some Forrest Gump trivia with us and the table next to us; he was probably the highlight of the visit. Our food only took less than 10 minutes to come out but for once I wasn't glad that that happened. I got the coconut shrimp and while the shrimp I was able to eat tasted good and the fries were great, more than half of my shrimp were not deveined AT ALL. I'm talking full intestine still intact in 6/10 of the small shrimp I got. It honestly wouldn't have bothered me quite as much if we didn't pay $20 for my meal!! My boyfriend ate a couple of the pieces of shrimp that I didn't eat but I left the restaurant still hungry. I wish they hadn't rushed my food out so quick and had taken the time to properly clean the shrimp. I was definitely disappointed in my first ever visit to one of these restaurants and unfortunately I can't say I'm looking forward to ever going again. read more
