LOVE the bar. The ambiance in that bar area just feels GOOD. My favorite place for a steak and martini. The menu is above average but doesn't blow my mind. So many people have been talking about this place and we are so lucky to have been able to go as a work group! Everything we had was perfect and tasty. The ambiance is pretty neat you really feel like you are in a mountain estate. the service was phenomenal and the waitress friendly. Everything came out perfectly cooked and the selection of food appealed to every taste bud in our party. I would love to come back here and try different things. One of the highlights was the delicious polenta sticks that I really enjoyed. they had so much flavor for such a simple item. Like I mentioned everything was cooked to perfection- the steaks were perfect and juicy as well. The oysters were a delectable treat as well! We came for late lunch service. The watermelon margarita and pina cocktail drinks were terrible. Izero nuance to the flavor profile - basically booze on ice. I had the bartender add more lime to my drink and it was still unpalatable. Vegetarian lasagne had canned tomatoes and canned peppers, very bland except for a lot of tarragon, which was a contrasting flavor profile. BF ordered the brisket which was fine. Our waiter could not have cared less about us and left without saying anything as the lunch shift ended and the dinner shift began. Terrible $140 meal. Had a lovely patio late lunch/early dinner. We brought our dog and they were very welcoming. We were alone on the patio for most of the time which was a nice surprise. Waitstaff was great - very friendly and attentive. We tried a lot - main meal for the day. Polenta, fried crispy with an excellent red sauce; fried calamari and shrimp with a lime sauce - well cooked with tender shrimp; and a salad with spiced nuts and bleu cheese. Dinner was clams with house made spaghetti - excellent; and the tender perfect pork chop. The side dish of tapioca polenta was a strange texture. Dessert was excellent tender eggy beignets and a sticky toffee cake. The interior is dated and dark and the patio got very noisy when other diners arrived. Had a girls night out dinner here. The place is bumping. Great bar area for socializing and plenty of seats for dinner. The food was good but the service was fantastic. I shared the rib dinner with a friend and it was plenty of food for the both of us. And they even split our plates without us even asking. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was amazing. Calamari was good but not the best I ever had. The wedge salad was also great. Not overdressed. The drinks are great but pricey. It was 15 bucks for a drink, but I highly recommend the pair martini with Rosemary and lemon juice. It was awesome. This is a great place for celebrations or family events. read more

Catching up on my yelp... As a local, there aren't many places in Marin I have much interest in dining out at, however Buckeye is one I can highly recommend. It's sort of a famous spot due to its "lodge" like charm and great food and drinks. It's white-table-cloth casual so you might feel more comfortable in dressy casual attire. I wouldn't come in fresh off the beach, although I think they'd still let you in, just keep in mind, it's a nicer dining spot. Service here is professional. They're great about checking up on you and don't worry if you spill a few crispy onion crumbs on the table cloth, the wait staff will promptly sweep those up for you. The food is excellent. My recommendation is the brick chicken. It's so rich and full of flavor. Everything is good though. The portions could be a little bigger with certain dishes (petrale sole for example), but all in all, the quality is there. It's pricey, but Buckeye is one of few places around that you actually get what you pay for. read more

What a wonderful experience at the Buckeye. We started with a cocktail in the oh so cozy warm, comfy bar. Delicious and top notch bartenders. On to the Dining room where our server, Katheryn and her team were not only warm and pleasant, they provided amazing service Wonderful. My dish was wonderful, Petrale Sole, cooked perfectly with an herbed crust. Delicious. My wife had the Skirt Steake cooked to perfection with Frittes steeped in juices. Was here for the 1st time in probably over 15 years. Treated for my 70th BD. Ambiance is so warm and inviting, with the huge fireplace in the background. Spot on service. Efficient but not intrusive. Minimal noise level. Tables nicely separated. Definitely a destination restaurant. GREAT and inventive cocktails. Oysters Rockefeller were to die for, just wish there were more than 6, but @ $25+, we couldn't have afforded more. We also ordered the Calamari which was a huge disappointment. The smallest order of Calamari I have ever seen. No legs, just rings. I had the famous Pork Chop which was cooked to perfection, medium well. But it was so odd, it was sitting on a bed of I don't know what. Not mashed potatoes, polenta. Which was also covered in some very odd coleslaw of sorts. Which didn't blend well at all with the main course. I say to the restaurant, skip this odd slaw or salad. I ended up scooting the whole serving to the side, just so I could get to the rest of the main. Rest of the mains were fine. We all ordered dessert. Sticky Toffee Cake - WINNER Butterscotch Cream Brulee - WINNER Coconut Cream Pie - LOSER. It either had a chocolate crust or was drizzled in chocolate which completely took away from the Coconut which was mostly absent. Piled high with not whip cream, but not sure what that was either. I left half of it as for me, it was inedible. Was sent home w/the S'More Pie, (Birthday). Nice gesture, but way too sweet. Well, tonight, my wife and I were invited to a dinner at the Buckeye Roadhouse, a restaurant owned by a "restaurant group" Peter Schumacher, one of the owners in that group, at my request, contacted staff at the Roadhouse to let them know that I wanted to pay for the dinner. Well, the six of us arrived and we were seated at a very comfortable and wheelchair accessible table (I use a wheelchair) and our server, Beverly (who will be having a Birthday next week!) introduced herself to us. It was immediately obvious to me (having managed a major Fisherman's Wharf restaurant in San Francisco for almost 20 years) that we were really going to enjoy her service, which, it turned out, we did! She took our drink orders which were served in a timely manner, and then Beverly took our dinner orders, while never rushing us. Once again, as we have always experienced there, the six of us had an amazing dinner, clearly prepared by Chef owner Robert Price! He and his staff were all so attentive and caring of all of us (and as I looked around the dining room to observe the other customers and the other servers) and our dining needs without being intrusive. Thanks to both Peter and and Chef Price for providing all of us a memorable dinner and evening! TLDR: nice place, good service, decent food -- First, parking here can be a bit difficult on a busy night. Luckily there is extra parking across the street, but be careful when crossing. I came here for a semi casual family dinner and I ordered the rib eye steak. It was a bit undercooked than what I had ordered (medium rare), but the sauce tasted pretty good. The service was nice and I have no complaints. Overall, it was a nice dinner and id go back. I just hope they'll cook my steak a bit better. read more

I have frequented Buckeye over the years, and always enjoyed the food. So, when a nearby restaurant cancelled on me 2 weeks before we were supposed to have a 20 person event there, I called up the Buckeye as I looked into other restaurants. Their events contact, Sylvia, was the most knowledgable and capable of the events folks I talked to across about 5-7 restaurants. She returned emails and calls promptly, provided all the information I asked for, and ensure that the setup process went smoothly. Day of, she met us early (restaurant opens at 12, but she allowed us to come at 11:30am to set up), helped us layout everything how we wanted it, and even found us a pair of scissors to help with our decorating! She was an absolute gem! Plus, the Buckeye is a beautiful restaurant and the upstairs area where we hosted the event was absolutely perfect for our group. Onto the food - you cannot go wrong here with anything. We, of course, chose a curated menu for our party, which included the brisket (YUM), Oysters bingo, the artichokes, petrale sole, and more. I can't tell you how many of the guests raved about the food! I personally was recovering from a sore throat, so I ordered a white bean soup they had and that was also excellent. Like I said, can't go wrong with anything here. Finally, the service. Our server, Eileen (not sure on spelling) was wonderful! She was there providing everything we needed and moving things along, but never intrusive. At one point, my mom held out her hand with her glass and said (a bit to me and a bit to herself) "I need another glass of rosé" and Eileen just materialized out of nowhere and filled up her glass! My good friends (that I just recently reconnected with after 50 years) went there last week to celebrate their parent's 63rd anniversary and my friend's 61st birthday. I thought it would be nice to purchase a $150.00 gift certificate to apply to their luncheon. I called and was informed that the family was there eating. Perfect! What a nice surprise of a gift to see -$150.00 deducted off a bill. I purchased a $150.00 gift certificate, but was told that the restaurant had to charge me a 20% gratuity. Seriously? I never heard of such a thing. Even when I purchase gift certificates from fine restaurants like Gary Danko, it's for a set amount without gratuity. So, why the nose in the air attitude for BR? I emailed my friend to make sure that $180.00 was deducted from the bill because who knows? She apologized and said their bill was so convoluted that no one at the table could figure it out. There were so many other service charge entries and an additional "living wage %". "Terrible. There are plenty of places that are well deserving of our money and time and memories. This is only based on the service from the host! I was there today around 3. The host acted like he didn't see me. I stood there for about 10 minutes. My husband, who was sitting on the benches behind me and is not a p.o.c., asked what was going on. I told him maybe they will "see" him. He stood right where I was standing and I took a step back. The host asked him what he could do to help him. He also asked was it just the two of them, meaning our baby and my husband, meanwhile I'm standing right there. My husband says, "and my wife." He (the host) pretends to strain his neck to see me. The host then asks if outside is ok, not would you like to sit inside or outside. I said, it's kind of cold outside, is it covered? Now a normal host would say we also have inside, seeing I was uncomfortable with outside. He convinces me that there's heaters and it's warm so I say ok. We walked past a near empty dining room and I ask if they were expecting to fill the dining room? He says we usually try to put babies outside. . So was he saying they put babies outside in the cold or that they didn't want their other guests to be inconvenienced by a baby that may cry. He took us to a table inside. When we sat down he began to walk away then turned back around and said, "we will need this table by 5 but you have almost two hours." Now, I sat there for a minute thinking, are you filling up the other at least 25 tables at five or do you just need our table? I felt beyond unwelcome at this restaurant. I decided to just leave. Now, I'm not saying this restaurant doesn't welcome people that look like me, I am just sharing my experience and what it seemed like. read more

The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning inside and out, with a beautiful patio and cabin-like decor. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, and we were taken care of extremely well. The food was fantastic. If you're a fan of buratta, try it here as an appetizer. It's whipped and light, so perfect for the summer. The food has always been very good here overall. Portions sizes on the smaller side but you expect that for nicer places. Unfortunately service can ruin it. Today while ordering for myself and date the waiter kept doing weird little power plays. He also put his index finger on the part of the plate that one eats off and turned the plate towards me so the fork was lined up (intrusive and unnecessary not to mention the main thing UNHYGENIC) This makes me question the protocols and training as it was almost in the center of my plate! Ham & Jalapeno (added) skillet Mac and cheese. The bartender recommended adding the cheese stuffed pasilla pepper from their chicken dish to the burger, which is completely mouthwatering. The burger was on the rare side of medium rare, which is how I prefer it. Side of spinach was also awesome, shallots instead of the usual over-garlic oily spinach. Amazing experience! It just looks like a $5 salad I can easily make myself at home. Having previously worked in hospitality and common sense says that's not the correct way to handle the situation.
