I used to like this place on Sunday afternoons because I always knew I could get a breakfast burrito after 1PM. The breakfast burritos are good, but then again, it's kind of hard to screw up a breakfast burrito. I'm giving this place one star not because of the food, but because of the owner. her daughter(s) that work there is super nice and sweet, but the old lady is a c**t. I agree with the poster that the regulars get treated a lot better than the new faces and for some odd reason, the brown faces are treated like crap by the old hag while the less colorful faces are treated extra nice. My girlfriend went there and had the same awful experience with the old lady. needless to say, i'll never step foot in there again. if you want a good burger, go to The Hat or In N Out. I've been coming here with a large group for a few years now and we never had a bad service. THe waitresses are sooo sweet and welcoming =) Their burgers are soo good. I will have to name almost all of them. The waitress recommended the avocado burger with a side of blue cheese dressing ....it was sooo good!! Their waffle fries are yummy. The shakes are great and the quesadillas with salsa and carne asada...wow! we can share that with 3 people! We love this place and plan to return in the near future =) read more

Ok. So we ordered a ton of food Togo. I ordered the chorizo plate also the machaca plate and steak and eggs/ chilequillas. We also ordered 4 menudos and 12 tamales. The menudo is only on Saturday's and Sunday's and it taste so good. All the other food was amazing. We also order 2 slices of pie (peach and banana) going to try that today. The customer service is great, but the breakfast was horrible. We tried the waffle/sausage/egg plate and the breakfast burrito with chorizo, beans, & potatoes. The waffle was like a thick chunk of rubber. The sausage links were not thoroughly cooked on the inside. The breakfast burrito was very bland and the potatoes were still crunchy because they were not thoroughly cooked. I've only had breakfast here, but it's always been good. It's no frills, so don't expect edgy, modern takes on any sort of "cuisine." Solid American standards, real "Midwest" style coffee (read: not very strong) and solid, classic Mexican breakfasts. They have a delicious Machaca, a good, tomatillo-based Chilaquiles, and very good, classic house-made salsa and know how to cook your eggs the way you order them. Very nice staff and the mornings always have an old-timers club holding court that is entertaining, to say the least. A reminder of by-gone diners that, for the most part, have disappeared in L.A. The food is always good. Simple food made correctly. I come strictly for breakfast and am never disappointed. Family owned small diner. American food with a little Mexican food mixed in. Good Food and reasonably priced. However, I don't give it five stars due to the small lady taking the orders. She is rude and not always accommodating. I believe she is also the owner. The owners are extremely friendly... going there to many times, I don't think the owners know my name but they know my face and what I like to eat. This is the first place I've ever had Chorizo. And I gotta say, it's hella good. The breakfast here is so big, it last me till lunch. And I'm a "big" eater. Prices are very cheap. The great thing about this restaurant is the fact that the moment you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you've traveled bak into the past. Having gone to this resturant since I was in the womb, I have gone through periods of intense love and intense dislike for Bun-N-Burger. Now after having frequented this resturant for 22 years, I have sampled nearly everything on the menu. If you're new I personally recommend: -Chicken Enchiladas, which come with a generous side of rice and beans -Chili Side, a personal favorite hamburger patty smothered in homemade chili, topped with cheese (and onion if you wish) with a toasted bun and a side of fries While you may have to wait for a table early Sunday morning, as the local churches have locals waiting in line for a table after service, the food is worth sampling if you are in the area. Over all, for food that tastes great with a style that is unique with a hint of retro and a family staff who is more than willing to carter to your unique dietary requests Bun-n-Burger is second to none. read more

There is no attempt to impart the essence of the 50's diner rather the interior is dismal and bleak and still milking it's image from it's old irrelevant glory days . I compare the overall ambiance of this greasy spoon joint as identical to the interior of Clifton's with the latter able to redeem itself by serving quality and cheap food reflective of it's patrons. BnB you truly need to introspectively seek out what you sought out to be long ago .... I hadn't been here in at least 25 years since I live in San Diego. I can tell you that when I walked in, it was like walking into a dream. It looked the same as I remember, but more seating in the adjacent suite. Decor was AWESOME! Loved looking at the old photos on the wall. The food.... to DIE for! Just as I remember it. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. It was just as good as I remember. No scrimping here, like most establishments. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken... DELICIOUS! Great salad. The only reason I give this place two stars is for the cute decor. The food here is disgusting. Maybe I need to try the breakfast but my salad wasn't good, my cousin's chocolate shake was freezer burnt and don't even get me started on the lack of presentation, but the worst were the chili cheese fries! It's too bad too because they use waffle fries, which I love, but the chili ugh sooooo gross! If you want a diner experience go to Twhoey's. Having read the ten Bun 'n Burger reviews, it is clear that I have a far different perspective on Bun 'n Burger than do most, if not all the current reviewers. I had my first Bun 'n Burger here in 1942 - just one year after they opened in 1941. Quite a few years ago, I was told by the owners at that time that that makes me the 2nd oldest, continuous Bun 'n Burger customer in existence. Who knows, lby now, I may be the oldest continuous Bun 'n Burger customer? So far, four generations of my family have become customers and also stop in for a 'Bun 'n Burger whenever they are near Alhambra. I cannot count the number of times I have come back. Now, living in Helotes Texas, my visits are less frequent, but any trip to Southern California is not complete without stopping by for an original 'Bun 'N Burger,' Fries and a Root Beer Float. When I walk in the Bun 'n Burger, the sights and smells of 66 years ago just wash over me. I remember all my grammar school buddies from Washington School in San Gabriel that joined me there, and all the after-movie 'Bun 'n Burgers we had after catching a flick at the old El Rey Theatre (torn down long ago) down in the 300 block of West Main St, not far from Alhambra H.S.. In particular, I am amazed that the original 'Bun 'n Burger' Hamburger tastes the same as the first one I had so many years ago. On one of my visits, I was told the 'Bun 'n Burger' tastes the same because it is cooked on the original grill and that grill imparts to the meat the taste and smell of long ago. I cannot vouch for that, but it sure makes for a good story. If anyone cares to convince me that they also are a long-time Bun 'n Burger customer, then tell me the names of the four or five most popular 'Bun 'n burger' Hamburgers as they were described on menus from the 1940s and early 1950s, and describe what was painted on the walls in the front dining area (the only dining area in those days). They asked me what i wanted to drink. My drink came really fast, but it took a while just to take my order. Maybe 10 to 15 minutes to take my order. Then another 25 mins. To receive my order. I was very disappointed with my meal. I order the huevos rancheros. Never in my life have i seen huevos rancheros egg yolk cooked instead of being over easy like they should be. I can understand if i asked for the yolk to be cooked but i didn't. I was very disappointed. I will never come back here. I spend about $8.00 on just beans and potatoes. read more
