Happened upon Bushfire Kitchen in Del Mar on Saturday afternoon. What a nice surprise! I had the Panang Curry Chicken Bowl which was spicy and super delicious; as good as any Thai restaurant! I didn't want carbs so was able to get two orders of grilled veggies in place of the usual side dishes. My husband had the Tri-Tip Bowl with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. His meat was perfectly cooked and he chose the chimichurri sauce which was fabulous! The staff members were friendly and extremely helpful; we had lots of questions since we had never been there before. We had a wonderful lunch, sitting on the patio under a nice heater, enjoying the music. Wish they were closer to PB so we could go more often! read more

I love places like this--their philosophy, their food, their operations, are all from honest and good origins. The food. We had brisket, chicken, steak, grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, squash, oh and an Alpine IPA for $3.50 during happy hour! Meat was tender, flavorful, veggies had perfect char marks and were cooked just right. Whatever they do to the mashed potatoes here, it's magical. And the chimichurri, just. so. good. What pulled me in the most though, was the kitchen and the chef/owner, made me feel right at home. Le Creuset pots, quality ingredients with health and sustainability in mind, and high energy for cooking for people to make them happy. Had an excellent lunch and an OK breakfast here this week. Best described as Urban Plates meets Burger Lounge. You walk by your food offerings (but don't grab anything) and then order at the cashier (which adds a weird time-delay element when there's a line of people). High quality ingredients, well prepared, served with a smile. All good, and yet . . . I have a problem with these fast-casual upscale places. While I applaud the ingredient quality, preparation, and attention to detail, I'm put off by the "stand-in-line take-a-number sit-in-an-Ikea-inspired dining room." The environment just doesn't match the food, and I'm wondering why management chooses this strategy. Is tableside service too expensive? Perhaps. But the waitstaff happily buzzed about, removing dishes, refilling iced tea. So Bushfire has staff costs. And the staff loses out on tips. Does the order-here sit-there strategy feel hip and fresh? Sure, but how about making the sit-there environment a bit more comfortable. Like Starbucks. Either way, I find the entirety a bit too mechanical and 'unhomey' for breakfast or dinner, but perfectly suitable for lunch. read more

Good food, better than I expected to be honest. Great for a simple weeknight dinner. They have their online ordering and pickup system working really well. Even if there's a line of people to order at the counter, there's a separate area for online order pickup and an associate will help you right away. read more

I like the flow of the line - kind of similar to an Urban Plates. Great customer service as they allowed us to try out a couple of things before purchasing. I had the curry braise which was really good and we ordered my son the fries. The variety of salads weren't great as they were already pre-made and didn't look that fresh. I will definitely try them again and see how it goes. read more

I came hereto other day, and I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate and it came with no teriyaki sauce. On top of that I ordered a gluten free cookie but they gave me a normal one! I felt like crap the next two days. Bushfire needs to contact bullseye gluten free to help them out! read more

Ate there with family two weeks ago and was stellar. Had the Million Dollar BLT and decided to go back for another this week. Got take out. The turnaround seemed too fast, the sandwich dressing was soaked into the bread enough to make it soggy like it had been sitting around for a while. It wasn't even warm. Worst of all was the dressing, tasted like it had been spiked with red pepper flakes and was BAD. I called to let them know what happened and the person on the phone seemed defensive & disinterested. ...threw the sandwich out. Not going back even though it is in the neighborhood. read more

Go here if you want to be fed, but not if you want fantastic. Tried it since it's a block away from our place. It was fine. Nothing special. It's a better than the broken yolk which is no better than Denny's. Order at the counter, take a number and get served at your table. Had good thick cut bacon. French toast was good and they have rich dark syrup. Also had the breakfast hash and it was so so. The poached eggs were cooked right, the potatoes were weird and not very good. I think they were deep fried like little square french fries. Wife had a breakfast burrito which she said was ok, again, nothing special. I wouldn't order the hash again. I'll probably go here for lunch sometime to see what it's like. read more

Usually very good for Dinner. I have had the Bowls, Sandwiches and Burgers and they are all very good with the Burger being the best of the 3. Had breakfast once before and it was fairly good. The last time however I ordered the steak breakfast burrito and it was not very fresh and gave me belly ache. Not sure what happen there but maybe the meat and potato had been sitting for a while before they served it. read more

I walked in with my mom last Monday 6/3/19 around 4pm for the happy hour special and no one at the counter or cash register were willing to serve us. There were many employees walking around and even behind the counter and we were not acknowledged. We stood at the counter for about 5 minutes before walking out. Customer service needs to improve if this establishment wants to attract more business. read more

We love having Bushfire in the neighborhood! Salmon bowls with roasted veggies are my favorite take-out for the family. The charming, covered outdoor patio with heaters and nicely-spaced tables is my go to for places to enjoy a glass of beer or wine with friends in a relatively COVID safe environment. I stopped by this morning to pick up a menu as I heard they were open as of yesterday Today they had a soft opening and breakfast was Free. Such a nice surprise and gratefully appreciated The breakfast was Delicious and Service great. The restaurant is nicely set up and had a great outside area as well Very Happy to have a great new BBQ restaurant so close and having breakfast as well is such a Plus +++ I can't wait to stop by a few times this week and try the BBQ items. Well... I really want to like this place, because it's convenient and the food is pretty good. I usually eat there towards the end of the night because, like I said, it's convenient, quick and pretty good. Everything I've had there is good. HOWEVER.. I understand that around closing time, employees just want to go home, but one way to know that a restaurant is on point is if the staff does not ignore your presence when you're walking in from the patio because they forgot the ramekin of sauce that goes with your salmon bowl. I mean walk in, have every employee in the front area look at you, proceed to continue a conversation amongst them and decide to ask if they can help you when they are done with said conversation. As many of us know, customer service is treating every customer like they are the best ever even if they are actually the bane of your existence. I don't expect them to bring the silverware and napkin jar over to my table if I'm sitting on the balcony and they're all on the tables inside, but I would like a ramekin of sauce that comes with the dish when forgotten because I can't go back there behind the counter and get it myself. Rant over. Three stars for good food and good soda... And a good location. Done. read more

Bushfire Kitchen is the best thing to happen to Carmel Valley/Del Mar in a long time! Great food at affordable prices - not cheap - but reasonable prices for the quality of ingredients and preparation. I'm sure nothing comes out of a bag, box or freezer here....the food is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend coming for their "Grab and Go" Breakfast Sandwich on weekdays...made with their own English muffins, scrambled eggs, lemon ailoi, cheddar cheese, their own smoked Canadian Bacon or sausage patty, topped with fresh spinach....under $5! The best I've ever had. The tri-tip steak with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables is perfect. Service is friendly and excellent, and the outdoor patio is comfy and welcoming. This is not my first time at bushfire. But this is my first review. I felt the need to share my experience. I recently became a vegetarian and getting a really good veggie burger has been a problem for me. But today I had a delightful veggie burger . Fresh ingredients argula, red onion, avocado and many other veggies. The quinoa mixed patty had great texture and visual appeal. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had regular fries that came out hot and seasoned very well. I truly enjoyed my meal. The staff members were busy. But I appreciated there kindness. One of the best places I have ordered from in San Diego. I have been here 5 years and this place knocked it out of the park. I really liked the walk up ordering format and the decor. I went for dinner while on a business trip and ordered a burger and a Sculpin. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their burgers. Every time we come and visit in Del Mar my family loves coming to this restaurant because everyone can pick something a little different and get exactly what they wanted to eat. Bushfire is one of our go to places in the neighborhood, we love everything we always get. The veggie burger, and salmon bowl especially. The reason for the 4 star, not 5, it's more of a customer service issue. I usually get take out, and call it in ahead of time. There is a line specifically for "online pick-up." The employee at the counter tells you the amount you owe, and walks away while you pay at the handy kiosk, but leaving you in question as to where your order is as you awkwardly stand around in the way of other people (there is no room for waiting.) There is a ledge which clearly looks like bags of take out, (no sign) nobody at the restaurant tells you that your food is ready. You have to awkwardly go look at each bag to find your name on the receipt. My first time getting pick up I didn't know this, the employee at the counter didn't communicate it with me, and I waited 20 minutes not knowing my food was ready, or waiting on the ledge. I thought, oh they were just busy that night. Also, the ledge is in an area that borders for the employees, I can never tell if I should be in the area looking at everyone's take out. The next 3 times I get take out, again they never communicated that my order was ready, I'm figuring this method is their norm. I VERY much wish management would fix this system, and please tell the employees to take a little extra step in telling the customer, "your order is almost ready" or "your order will be at this ledge when ready" or simply hand the customer their bag of food. I always leave super upset, but will still go back for the punishment because we enjoy the food. read more
