Saturday, July 14, 2012 will now be remembered as the day I ate quite possibly the best sandwich in my 29 years. I came to Buster Krab's expecting to be blown away by the 1/2 pound lobster roll. But even if I had low expectations for it, I still don't think I would have liked it. The pieces of lobster were small and stringy, not juicy and plump. I wasn't a fan of the seasoning, either. I didn't like the bed of lettuce the lobster sat on, and I didn't like the celery mixed in it. I guess I typically like my lobster rolls au naturel, or with some addicting savory seasoning... some of my faves are Luke's Lobster in NYC and Neptune Oyster in Boston. I don't like a lot of other unnecessary stuff in my lobster rolls. Needless to say, I was disappointed. So that was the bad. Now, for the extremely good. I had the mother of all sandwiches here: The World's Most "Fame Is a Given" Sandwich, aka the scallop & bacon roll. We were actually thisclose to not ordering it. Since Buster Krab's calls itself a "Burger Shack and Beach Bar," we almost got a burger instead to go with our lobster roll. But then the scallop and bacon roll on the menu caught my eye. I hadn't seen this sandwich offered at any other restaurant, and I am someone who strongly believes bacon makes everything tastes better. Besides, who doesn't love bacon-wrapped scallops?? Just read this description, straight from their menu: "Succulent sea scallops, married with our own Krispy kracker krumb topping & broiled to sweet perfection in buttery goodness. Three pieces of thick cut smoked bacon accompany this angel lying on a leaf of fresh Romaine, a bed of our own Cajun Remoulade sauce & gingerly delivered to you on a hollowed out toasted buttered Torpedo roll." The sauce was ridiculous. The scallops were perfectly cooked. The bacon was juicy. The roll was toasty on the outside and soft on the inside. And oh yes, this also weighed in at a 1/2 pound. It was hands down one of the best sandwiches ever. The seasoning on the fries was great, and the pasta salad was flavorful. I didn't try the cole slaw, but my boyfriend said it was nothing special. He liked the lobster roll, but he was also really wowed by the scallop roll. If you're in Narragansett, Newport, Providence, or anywhere in RI, a trip to Buster Krab's in Galilee is worth it. It says on the menu you can have it hot...HOT! YES!! Mine came out cold.....I told my waitress...this is supposed to be hot... Oh sorry... What did she do?? She stuck it under the Salamander.....and broiled it. What? whatttttttt? I stared at her...I didn't want to complain.....I bit my tongue and asked for a side of melted butter and did it myself. I LOVE lobster and I don't mind paying for it...but when it's costing you $28.00... you should get it how you want it and educate your staff on how it should properly be done. Buster Krab's is right in the heart of Galilee, near George's, Champljn's Seafood, etc. Crab's is a burger bar and seafood restaurant. The outdoor dining patio is the place to eat. The indoor dining room is pretty small, so this place is best for sunny days. The burgers were good though, so if you're somehow in the mood for beef in the land is seafood, this may be the option for you. I had the mahi-mahi fish tacos. They were pretty good. They also had a large selection of both draft and bottled beers. I didn't see a raw bar at Krab's, so if you're looking for raw clams, oysters, etc., you may look elsewhere. read more

It's called Buster Krabs, and that's all you need to know. The moment you walk into this little seaside treasure, you are met with a wonderfully whimsical nautical-theme, complete with some fun movies playing on the walls, including "Jaws," "Pirates of the Caribbean," and "The Perfect Storm." Whether you decide to sit at the Tiki Bar, the booths or tables inside, or the lovely and expansive porch covered with Open Flame heaters, the ambiance is friendly and tropical, with lots of Hawaiian, Jimmy Buffet, Dave Matthews and other low-pressure music warming your ears as you peruse the creative and fun cocktail menu: Top shelf stuff for the sophisticated palate, and fun party fare as well, including the famous fish bowl; an actual fish bowl filled with a tasty blue combination of booze and flavors and finished with a couple of Swedish Fish to swim around inside it. With entertainment during the week, including trivia and karaoke nights, as well as all the sports on TVs across the place, and of course the movies playing on the big screens, there is no reason not to let this place embrace you for hours at a time. Just save some room for the outstanding, simply decadent dessert menu. My hope Is that Buster Krab's will go from being Rhode Island's "best kept secret" to the "must see" New England destination it deserves to be. It's that good. Just do yourself a favor and get there before that happens, because it's in and ready to seat you immediately right now, but if the world finds out about this gem, you may end up having to wait outside for a table once you get there. Buster Krab's is a cool, fun little beach shack, with funky old stuff on the walls, a music selection from the early 60's beach movies and Motown, an ice bucket of 4 Corona's for $13, and a surprisingly creative and diverse menu. I mean, you're sitting at picnic tables with colorful umbrellas displaying beer advertising logos, the condiments are contained in Corona buckets on each table, and there is the hustle and bustle of cars whizzing by and the Block Island Ferry and other boat traffic coming in and out... and yet the menu has items on it like Phil's Revenge - "Succulent, tender chunks of fresh Filet Mignon, Wisconsin cheddar cheese, diced red onion, tomatoes, shredded fresh lettuce, and cucumbers, topped with our own ranch dressing & piled high atop a fresh grilled flat bread - $13.99". It was excellent, and they know a thing or two about making good fries, too. It's fun, it's funky, it's got interesting menu choices, the service was good, and the prices were reasonable. Buster Krab's is located on a very busy street, so I'm deducting one star for the location, but while you can get a much better view of the water at Champlin's or George's across the street, there's a good chance that you'll have more fun at Buster Krab's. read more

Who would have thought Lobster Quesilla's and french fries in a car with a little malt vinegar would be one of the best dinners ever. Seriously, it was so delicious and our server Kate was the sweetest thing. A nice place to grab a bite to eat and a refreshing beverage on a summer night or even during the day waiting to catch the ferry. Sit indoor or out and watch the ferry flow by. Not sure what the drink was called but it has gin and watermelon and it was amazing! I had no idea this place was so close to the beach and located so close to where I park for the Block Island ferry. I'll go back the next time I'm in the area :) Its a must try! read more

I came here years ago when it was first opened and even wrote a food article about it. I had nothing but great things to say! However, the past few times I have been there have not been good at all. This week, I ordered the "Karibean Salad", which advertised "fresh" cilantro, but was nowhere to be found on the salad. The "grilled chicken " that was supposed to be on it was ice cold and clearly left over from the night before because it was tough and chewy and had a lot of gross veins and fatty tissue attached to it. I have such mixed feelings about this place. The food and drinks are great. Servers are friendly. Fun, quirky atmosphere - think summer shack with the beachy feel you want by the ocean. But for 2 people, which was an order of 2 meals and 2 drinks (with tip) was $76. For lunch, $76?!? The fish tacos came out to be $20 and $22 per order. You can get an add on of guac, which is just enough for the 3 tacos in the order but for $2, it's a bit of a rip off. Sweet potato fries are also an extra fee. Back again, and I love this place. Consistently delicious food, and excellent service. Got a burger this time which was excellent - fresh, hand formed patty cooked to order and grilled to perfection. I got a chance to shoot the breeze with one of the owners and she told me that they do the burgers here the just like they do at their other 2 restaurants, The Abbey, and The American. Also had the krabby kakes and they were just as great as last time. 2 large cakes of fresh lump crab, not much filler, and a killer remoulade and really good coleslaw on the side. Well, my husband was craving seafood for fathers day so we drove down to Narragansett. We decided to try something new instead of Georges. I had heard about Buster Krabs through their other restaurant The Abby. The place was cute, an outdoor beach feel with picnic tables and fake palm trees. I wanted the fried oysters but sadly they had a problem with their distributor which I thought was odd since they have plenty of fishing boats pulling in across the street. I settled for their Krabby Patties or crab cakes. They were soggy and mushy. It tasted like canned crab with some spice and a lot of celery and red pepper. From the sauces and cole slaw it all tasted pre packaged. My husband got the fried clams which he said was ok. Went there for dinner with party of 9 on Sunday of July 4th weekend. We were seated promptly and the staff was very friendly. The food was above average, and the fish tacos were awesome...second only to a small joint I know in San Diego. There wait staff was friendly but short staffed which resulted in it taking about 1 hr for us to get food from the time we sat down. We also had to remind the server that we were still waiting on several meals for our group after what seemed like 5 minutes after they delivered our dinner, and me had to make multiple requests for drink refills. To compensate, they started bringing extra drinks and food items we did not order; oh well. I was a little irritated that my bill automatically had 20% gratuity added given the substandard service. Definitely didn't meet my service expectations to deserve 20%. If not in a rush, I would eat there again. read more

I've been here 4 times over the past two summers, and it is always fresh and delicious! Everything is good here! It's great for some friends after work, or even to bring the kinds for a quick bite to eat and an afternoon cocktail. They even have a cute kids menu, in which they make mac and cheese with an octapus hot dog in a little cardboard car! It's so cute! My husband and I wanderd in to Buster Krabs just out of curiosiy and stayed for a drink which turned into a dinner for 15 when my cousins arrived at our insistence that they come check out the very intersting menu, it has great variety even for non seafood lovers. When a kitchen gets slammed that hard with only two guys running it, serving it and tending bar you might be nervous about the quality and consistancy of the food but no one was disappointed! From the first delicious Clam Cakes and Spnach w/ Clam Dip appy ( there was a battle going on over the three that were ordered it was that good ) to the Fish Tacos ( huge chunks of fish, not scraps lke other joints) and Octopus dogs for the kids it was awesome! It's not the cheapest food on the strip but it IS the BEST food on the strip.If you are in Galilee, heck if you are in Rhody put Buster Krabs on you go to list. Worh the trip! read more

Another friend loved her Great Vegetarian Noodle Bowl but I caution you...if you get this, tell them not to put too much tasty hot sauce if you like things on the mild side. For those liking the other side of the ocean. ( which hubby and I did not sample) Our friends loved their crab cakes that were big and moist and delicious. Long overdue review. Would give this place negative stars if possible on Yelp. Visited here before a wedding that took place nearby. Takes forever, as in EVERY SINGLE PERSON, was given drinks, food, served, talked to, acknowledged before we could simply get a beer pulled from the tap. Early June, Friday afternoon dinner we drove down to Galilee. Our main purpose: to eat at Buster Krab's. The sky is cloudy but not scary; the breeze is light and easy. We waited to be seated, not long. we are lead to a picnic table on the porch. It's a solid table, room enough for four. We can see the Tiki Bar, the Co-op, Champlin's and George's across the street. Dad is with us today. We planned this like we usually do to make sure he is comfortable. Except we are outside and not inside. The breeze upsets him as well as the sun. Luckily it is cloudy enough that he's doesn't become too upset. I always like to see what is on the menu so that I can make suggestions for my Father. He has a hard time deciding. I also like to see if things are spicy since Mom can't deal with too many spices. I couldn't find a menu online. Buster Krab's has a facebook page though so I liked it and posted an inquiry on their wall. Almost immediately I was asked for my e-mail address. Results: a menu post haste I was able to download. Excellent, and a very nice menu with a good array of dishes. Specialty burgers, (The Hair of the Dog of particular interest, sauteed onions, an egg, a sausage patty, bacon, mayo and cheese,) to please the burger crowd, seafood (Mahimahi tacos, a HUGE lobster roll a half pound of lobster in a torpedo roll, and the usual suspects of fried seafood,) salads (six different kinds that include a Cobb salad,) as well as chicken in sandwiches and an entree, even a Mac and Cheese dish that you can add seafood to! Good assortment especially so close to the beach. I expected my Father to order the "World's Most Expensive Lobster Roll," It's easy for him to eat and he loves lobster salad. It comes with fries and coleslaw. He ordered the Fish and Chips instead. I should have known better. Any new place baffles him. He orders what he knows. Problem is he peels off the batter coating and only eats the fish inside. Oh well, that was okay because even though it was a puffy batter that coated the fish there was a large chunk of cod inside. The coleslaw that accompanied our meals (except Mom's Fish Tacos which had a fresh fruit salad,) was what my Mom called a German style coleslaw. Lightly marinated in a delicate dressing that had no mayonnaise the cabbage was sliced thin enough to assume the dressing's flavor. Very nice, even though I'm not a big fan of coleslaw in that style; many restaurants can't create the balance that style needs for good flavor. The fries on Dad's plate and mine were spiced and not too salty, a massive amount. I ordered a chicken burrito with a side of guacamole. The plates Dad and I were served our meals on were the size of serving platter! They were covered with our food but in uniform amounts. The burrito was HUGE and was full of vegetables: tomatoes, lettuce, sauteed mushrooms and onions, fresh jalapeños, cheese and black beans. Cheese and jalapeños was sprinkled over the top, a good amount to flavor not overwhelm. I am still stuffed from consuming the whole burrito but could have eaten half and taken the other half home. The coleslaw was cradled in a crisp and fresh romaine leaf which was a light touch. Mom and I shared a bit of our entrees with each other. Her fish tacos were stuffed with the grilled Mahimahi! It was delicious, drippy but fresh. I didn't take too big of a bite so I wasn't able to taste the smoky flavored salsa Mom said was in with the fish. These were no small tacos. Mom was stuffed when she finished. I never drink alcohol when eating with Dad. My Mom is pretty much a teetotaler anyway. Dad had his milk, Mom an iced tea which she said was probably bottled and not fresh brewed since it was presweetened. I had diet Pepsi. They have a Tiki Bar that looks like it has specials on different drinks. There were leis at the hostess counter that gave me that impression with some kind of plastic beer badge on them. Okay, Dad enjoyed his meal but wasn't impressed with the place. That is possibly because he's disabled and prefers darker places that are inside a building. So if you have any elderly guests or family members that have dementia this place may not be the best pick. As for Mom and I we agreed that we will come with out Dad another time since the food is really good and we often come to Galilee. This establishment is summery, perky and open. The food is delicious, the staff is helpful and attentive. You can walk to the beach or from the beach and it's casual. Parking on the other hand will not be easy when summer is in full swing so if you come here find parking first. the lot is small in back, smaller since the patio was put in last year and the on street parking cannot be relied on. Although the Tiki bar is under the roof and there are a few tables and even fewer booths inside with the Tiki Bar, at least half of the tables are outside to take advantage of beautiful summer days.
