I've been wanting to come here for the longest time, and finally did during the first day of San Diego Restaurant Week. The evening was a complete disappointment, here's why... It started off with 3/4 of the parking spaces being reserved for valet only. It looks like C-Level, Island Prime, and Coasterra decided to convert their joint private lot into a money-making opportunity. I had dined at Coasterra about 1 1/2 years ago and it was free back then. I don't know when they decided to take away 3/4 of the parking spaces, leaving just a very small section that was free. Four of us ordered from the SDRW menu for $50 each and the smart one just ordered fish and chips. I had such high expectations but was deeply disappointed. I chose the salad as my starter. I asked for dressing on the side. They set my dressing on the side, but decided to just give me mixed greens, nothing else. One of my friends got a salad that came with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, nuts and cheese. Mine looked too pathetic to be photographed... One of my friends and I got the ahi & salmon poke. It looked appealing at first glance, but it was flavorless. There was no sauce on it, nothing. They apparently forgot and we had to ask for ponzu, which was brought out about 10 minutes later. Aside from the flavorless bowl, there were other issues with this dish. There were hardly any fish, and the bowl consisted mainly of white rice. I would say more than 3/4 of it was rice. For dessert, I selected the key lime tart. I expected a regular sized dessert. Instead, I got a mini tart. It didn't taste good, so I suppose it wasn't too bad that it was small because I wouldn't have eaten it anyway. The meal was definitely not worth $50! It was overpriced and underwhelming. This was notably the saddest salad I've had and the most disappointing poke bowl. The dessert was a disappointment as well. Two of my friends got the lobster Mac and cheese as part of their SDRW experience and commented that it was a tiny kid-sized portion with barely any lobster. Except for the friend who ordered the fish and chips, we were very disappointed and walked away hungry. The evening was a disappointment and service was pretty bad as well. It was unfortunate that we had to pay a 5% surcharge on top of the overpriced meal. It would be nice if we could get our money back! Definitely do not recommend this restaurant.... I've been here many times and the food is consistently on point every single visit. No off nights, no "maybe we just caught them on a good day" -- it's just solid every time. And the view? You really can't beat it. Sitting outside, looking over the water, especially when the weather is in the 80s... that's exactly where I want to be. Had a road trip with my wife to San Diego and I just had to show her C Level. Of course, we had a dinner reservation (highly recommended) and this was one of the spots I wanted to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Parking this time around changed a bit, the front couple rows were reserved for valet parking only. The last two rows were for self parking. Although valet was quite empty at around 7:30PM on a Saturday, it was kind of weird to see that any empty with plenty of people waiting for self parking spots to open up. I believe a better balance of self parking and valet parking would help wonders with parking situation. It's free to self park which is a nice plus. We got seated pretty quickly with a reservation, you can have a choice of outdoor seating (patio style) or indoor. Luckily, we got a table right by the indoor window which had a nice view to the ocean and a beautiful view of the city skyline of San Diego. My wife was pretty interested in most of the menu items, but I had recommend the Crispy Calamari, Seafood Pappardelle Pasta, and the Parmesan Chicken Piccata. All three dishes were for us to share, perfect amount of dishes to share between each other. -- Crispy Calamari -- Excellent App to start the meal, portions aren't too big which is ideal in a way. Calamari is crispy, not hard to chew, and very savory in a way. It comes with a dipping sauce that is pretty tasty and adds tons of flavor to the crisp. Highly recommend as the dish came out pretty quickly. (9/10) -- Seafood Pasta -- Star of the show I'd say. Filled with scallops, fish, mussels, shrimp, tomatoes, flakes, garlic, pesto cream, it's just full of flavor. Portions is pretty huge for this dish which made it the perfect dish to share. My wife and I absolutely loved the pasta itself. Not super salty and a perfect dish overall. One of our favorite pastas ever. (100/10) -- Parmesan Chicken Piccata -- Filled with roasted artichokes, tomatoes, mashed potatoes, broccolini, it was the perfect dish to pair with the pasta. Underrated part about this dish is the mashed potatoes. Super soft, not too salty, and perfect bite with the chicken. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly, not tough at all. Overall an amazing dish. (9/10) Our service was absolutely astounding. Our server, (Shawn) was tremendous. I've never had a staff check up on us so many times in a meal, and was super attentive, had perfect timing, and just super natural. Not too much but not too little. Perfection. To conclude the meal, our server brought us a complimentary birthday dessert to celebrate my wife's birthday. My wife had no idea which completed a wonderful surprise. What a wonderful experience and just extremely happy with how the meal turned out. C Level has always have excellent quality food, service, and vibe is just immaculate. When the hostess asked for my name, she did not understand it the first time, so I attempted to show her my OpenTable reservation to make things easier. However, she quickly dismissed the gesture and stated that she only needed the name, which required me to spell it out for her. The interaction felt abrupt and unwelcoming, and it did not reflect the level of customer service I expected. The dining service and food were acceptable, and the restaurant itself is beautiful because of its location. However, the first impression at the host stand significantly affected the overall experience. This year I enjoyed Mother's Day brunch at C Level with my husband and two teens. We were seated outdoors on the patio with a great view of the harbor. I warned him ahead of time that C Level was going to be amazing, and the very first bite followed by a smirk and nod validated that. We sat outdoors taking in the stunning views, complete with heaters and a cozy fire that actually kept me warm. Huge win for someone who's always cold. I also appreciated the lighting being perfectly dim. Romantic enough to set the mood, but not so dark that you're playing menu roulette or flashing your phone's light around. We ordered the sesame-crusted brie, steamed mussel pot, lobster mac and cheese, New York steak with added garlic shrimp, and macadamia and coconut mahi. Every bite was incredible. Stopped by C Level for late lunch Christmas Eve. First off, the view from the tables is awesome. You are eating by the sea. Great spot for date night or special occasions. However, the hostesses at the front give you lots of attitude and aren't very receptive. Once you get seated, the wait staff was very attentive and the server had great customer service. We ordered shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, and chicken Caesar for apps. No complaints. For our mains, we ordered the wagyu burger (9/10 standard burger, average fries), seafood sandwich (0/10 don't recommend. I don't know why this place's ratings are so high. Food, service, and ambiance was MID. Even though there is a beautiful view when you sit outside, they only bring the heaters out at night because they have umbrellas up before sunset. I was freezing for a while, so you should probably wear layers if you come here. That was the least of my problems with my experience though, and you could say that it was my fault for not wearing extra sweaters and jackets anyways. There was a wait before we were seated, and everyone seemed like they were in a rush. It was difficult to flag down our server, too. However, I don't blame the bad service on the employees because being understaffed isn't their fault. I'm perfectly fine with waiting for good food, but there seems to be a recurrent management problem with staffing based on my experience and other reviews. Now, on to the food (that took a while to come out). We ordered the ahi tuna and salmon poke, coconut shrimp, island prime's lobster bisque, and seafood pappardelle pasta. The lobster bisque and coconut shrimp were decent, but the sauce on the latter was too sweet. I would not recommend the poke. It wasn't inedible or anything, but I expected more. I've had better poke for half the price; nothing made it stand out. I also had to ask for more sauce to make it taste better (the sauce did not stand out either, though). The pasta was not really memorable, but I recall finishing it over the poke. We also got drinks and dessert, which were also whatever and not really memorable. Not only is the food overpriced, but there's a surcharge/service fee/whatever-they-want-to-call it that they tack onto your bill. This fee doesn't even go to the servers/employees! I asked for it to be removed because that is just ridiculous. They're probably trying to trick you into thinking that's part of the tip when it actually goes into the owner's pockets. I usually just avoid leaving a review (especially for mom-and-pops) if our experience at a restaurant did not meet our expectations, but I think this place will survive based on how busy it seems. Beautiful views, lackluster service on a special birthday night. Took my girlfriend to C Level for my birthday expecting a memorable evening by the water. The ocean views were stunning even from our corner table by the plants, and the ambiance is top-tier. Unfortunately, things went sideways early. When I accidentally knocked over our waters and one glass broke, I quickly cleaned up the glass and ice myself. It took several minutes for staff to arrive and assist. The busboy brought a wet towel for a wet table, leaving menus soaked and our seat soggy. We never received new menus or dry towels -- I ended up handling most of the cleanup and my girl grabbed silverware from a neighboring table. Our waitress seemed distracted and gave very dry, hesitant responses when we asked for appetizer recommendations. As someone with deep respect for service industry workers (my mom's been a waitress for 30 years), I tried keeping the energy light with jokes, but the overall service felt disconnected. We understand everyone has off days, and the food recommendation we eventually got was solid. However, for a special birthday dinner at a spot with such incredible views, the service fell short of the setting. Mains came out within about 35-40 min after the night died down a bit. Isla Marg was very strong and Endless summer was more of a fruity drink. The seafood pappardelle pasta was pretty good and the lobster Mac n cheese was tasty until my tongue got tired of the taste of it. The onion soup was a hit and the cheese pulls and taste was immaculate, the calamari was the same as any others I've had from other places but I do wish there was a thicker sauce paired with it instead. Even though we didn't get to sit next to the window, we were still able to get a view of the sunset through the big windows throughout the restaurant. We visited C-level back in October. I believe they have valet but you can also park your own vehicle. It can be a little tight but it's better than paying for valet I guess. My boyfriend booked this restaurant for a dinner date night so he booked the Full romance package which was an additional $90 for some rose petals on the table and a bottle of champagne. I do wish they arranged this a little better, there were alot of petals that was already dead since the edges were already black. Our seats were perfect though, we were seated right by the water and the view was perfect. Our server was Mindi and she took care of us well. The table was a little sticky, like it wasnt cleaned properly. I don't know if it was just the smell of being by the water but the restaurant had that old smell to it. For appetizer, we ordered the calamari and oysters. Oysters were fresh and tasted really good. The calamari was too chewy for our liking. The breading was falling off and tasted like it was frozen. We weren't a fan of that at all. For our entree, I ordered the lobster BLT and my boyfriend ordered the New York steak with asparagus and shrimp. Both our meals was really good. The lobster BLT was a lot cause it also came with soup which tasted really well. The steak was super good and the enhancements were perfect. For dessert, we ordered a mango sorbet and creme brulee. Amazing dining experience right on the water. One of the best chicken dishes I've ever tasted. The chicken piccata was perfect. Extremely hot and juicy, somehow done without burning the Parmesan crust. I loved the fact that everything that was plated was packed full of flavor down to the garnishes. The slaw next to the coconut shrimp was exceptional and could easily be eaten on its own. Lobster bisque had one of the best croutons I've ever had as well, soft and crunchy at the same time so it could hold up to the bisque. The crust on the Brie was great to eat with the crostini as it added some great texture. Service was great as well, attentive without being too intrusive. Our server made recommendations and ensured we always had everything we needed. We ordered all four courses up front and were able to enjoy a very efficient dinner service. The ambiance is second to none. We sat on the patio right against the glass and had an unobstructed view of the downtown skyline and the Coronado bridge. Missed dineLA but was able to catch San Diego Restaurant Week on the last two days! C Level was one of the restaurants we were able to snag a reservation on a Saturday evening. The ambience is super nice, especially at night! We were able to get a table outside just by the sea and it was quite romantic. I would say this is their biggest selling point. There was one thing about the SDRW experience that left me with mixed feelings. I'm not sure if it was an error or if it was intentional. We opted for the $50 per person restaurant week menu and purchased cocktails in addition to our meal. While looking at the selected appetizers, the sesame crusted brie caught our eye and we saw that it could be substituted at an additional cost. Our server had mentioned that it was one of his favorite things to order, so we trusted him on that! We were originally going to order (2) lobster bisques, but then we decided to order (1) lobster bisque and pay an additional charge for the sesame crusted brie, since our server sold it so well to us. Out of curiosity, I decided to see how much cheaper the brie was compared to what they were charging on the regular menu. To my surprise, there was no difference! Majority of the restaurants that I've been to would have charged extra but not at the same price of what they're charging on a regular menu....to me, it did not make sense for us to lose a lobster bisque from the SDRW menu when we were essentially paying for the brie as an extra dish. Luckily, I caught that as soon as the waiter walked away, so we were able to call him over and make that change... Lobster Bisque was fantastic. So glad we were able to get our own and didn't have to share! So creamy good. We enjoyed the sesame crusted brie, but I did wish there was some sort of seasoning on the crusted part...but that was just my preference. We still finished and enjoyed all the brie. For entrees, we got the ahi tuna and salmon poke and the healthy skirt on fire salad. Fish on the poke was fresh, but nothing stood out from usual poke bowl I could get anywhere else. The skirt steak on the other hand was quite flavorful, however, some pieces were a bit dry but it wasn't unbearable. For dessert, we opted for a vanilla creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake! It was an interesting touch to have candied ginger as a topping to the creme brulee, and you can't ever go wrong with finishing up the meal with some chocolate cake. Their cocktails were fantastic! We got the Ticket to Paradise and French Riveria and they were pretty strong and tasty. Overall, their ambience is what sells, and I can see why people come back for it. I wasn't too impressed by the entrees, but enjoyed everything else. Maybe if we picked the other selections offered for SDRW, it would have been more suitable to us. read more

Super cute spot with great food. Came here for happy hour with a few friends in the middle of the week. Wasn't too busy around 3:00 and we were able to snag a table along the edge of the water. Fantastic views of San Diego with plenty of shade. The patio area is really nice, great ambiance. Definitely nice spot for a date. We got everything on the happy hour menu. Everything came out quick, plated nicely, and we liked all of it. I'd say definitely the steamed muscles and the coconut shrimp. The sauce for the muscles was so tasty we kept it to dip our bread in. The potstickers were ok but not better than anything you couldn't get at a million other restaurants. Calamari was also standard issue. What really wowed us was the tuna melt. I can easily say this is one of the best tuna melts I've had in a long time. They pack this things with tuna! The jalapeno sourdough is chef's kiss and really adds to the flavor.
