Saw lots of TikToks about CA Bakehouse so had to see what all the hype is about! We came here on a Sunday around 2:30pm. Located in Little Saigon, this area was very crowded so it took us time to find parking. There is no seating so we took everything to go. We decided to get a variety of items: guava mochi cake, Kaya croissant, Ube + Taro croissant, hojicha tea choux, Portuguese egg tart, Portuguese egg tart without cinnamon and powder, and kaya egg tart. My personal favorite was the guava mochi cake! The guava tasted very fresh and sweet. This was delicious! The kaya croissant and Ube+Taro croissant were both filled generously, however the flavor of the filling was too subtle - to the point where I could not really taste the kaya and Ube/taro. Similarly, the egg tarts didn't have much flavor. The filling in the hojicha choux was too strong for us. I am not a big hojicha fan so I didn't enjoy this but if you like the flavor, you would probably like this dessert. I'm glad I finally got to try CA Bakehouse. The desserts looked very aesthetic and the flavor choices were interesting, but the flavors were hit or miss for us (either too strong or barely there). Parking was also difficult to find so I am unsure if I would come back - maybe would get the guava filled mochi if I was in the area. CA Bakehouse has been consistently good for years now!! They have perfected their pandan flavored pastries and I highly recommend you try any one of them. Our favorites are the green waffle (of course), the guava mochi cake, Kaya Choux, and the honeycomb cake. Everything else we have tried has also been good, like their croissants and cookies. The only downside is sometimes they will send coupons and they won't work (even before they expire) but the price is reasonable so it isn't an issue at all! read more

I'm definitely the unpopular opinion when it comes to CA Bakehouse. Maybe Asian desserts aren't my fave but items ordered were decent. Sister loves her pandan desserts and asked me to pick up items with pandan ("Asian-vanilla") usually accompanied by coconut milk: :: Pandan Macadamia Cookie - these were okay and not much to rave about as far as flavor but it was a nice soft, chewy cookie with taste of macadamia :: Bánh Bò Nướng (honeycomb cake) - chewy, airy from the use of tapioca flour...if you like mochi you'll love this cake. Sadly, it wasn't for me...its a texture thing and to me, didn't have much flavor :: Kaya and Durian Egg Tart - family enjoyed these brightly-colored tarts. Crust nice and flaky. Wish I had purchased a simple Portuguese tart to try. Overall, i wasn't a fan but sister was happy with her #1 request of the honeycomb cake with the bouncy texture and pandan flavors. Other family members enjoyed but I felt like my 7- year old niece "I just taste GREEN"....EXACTLY! Also picked up orders for a friend and she thought items were 'ok'. The owner who handed me my order was very friendly and nice. After ordering about $150 worth of items, I forgot to add a pandan waffle to eat for the ride home... I asked if it was okay to order ONE item....the young worker said I would have to move over to the ORDERING line (10 people) and wait. SMH. It wasn't like I was ordering 10 more items.....almost had a New Jersey Housewife moment and flip the table....okay, only in my head! Lines are usually long on weekends so I opt to order ahead online through their website (also available in third party apps). I tried their egg tart, Kaya egg tart, choux pastry, and mochi cake. Kaya egg tart was light in favor (barely noticeable) but still good. My favorite was their normal egg tart - while the crust was flakey and more dense, tart was overall still delicious. My first visit to this packed bakery was quite overwhelming due to the ordering process. Since customers are blocked from going inside, the bakery uses a small table setup for to-go orders. There was no clear line, and people with tablets seemed to be taking orders randomly. Complicating matters, many people were just crowding the entrance waiting for their online pickups. Because we weren't allowed inside, it was difficult to see the offerings, and the menu was just text with no images, making it hard to know exactly what I was ordering. Despite the chaos, the staff was able to pump out my order very quickly, and the pastries were quite delicious. I've been working near this bakery for years and heard so many good things, but I never got to try unless recently. I went to vn town plaza to get matcha and pastries with my friend who came from out of town who likes this place. They're currently doing renovations inside the bakery, so ordering system is either you order online to pick up or you order at the window with the cashier. There were menus posted on the windows and where the cashier is so you can see what you want to order. By the time we ended up deciding what to order, there was a line forming. We ordered the honeycomb cake, egg tarts (durian, regular and pandan), almond cookies and chocolate chip cookies. The honeycomb cake wasn't too sweet which I prefer and it was still soft a couple days later when I finished it. The egg tarts tasted like how I assumed it would. I wished for the durian egg tarts tasted that there was more of the durian flavor, but I mainly tasted egg and the custard. The cookies were so soft here, but my boyfriend said it was decent because it tasted like they used a lot of baking soda. I would come here again to try the croissants because apparently, that's what all my friends told me I should've gotten instead. Fresh Asian flavored pastries! Pandan egg tart and Portuguese egg tart was yum! Winner here for me was their cassava cake. Their pandan croissant custard was solid. I come here for the egg tarts, both regular and Kaya. I usually order online and then pick up (as opposed to waiting in line in person and then waiting for my order), since their system is very easy to navigate! I'd previously come here to find out they were closed. It's in a large Vietnamese shopping/dining mall in San Jose. It was really crowded on a Sunday after New Year's and finding parking was tough for a bit, we eventually got a spot after waiting a bit. There was a line, they're obviously super popular. The baked items were coming fresh out. I was confused for a while with all the options, especially because I wanted to have both kayo and ube, and also the egg tart. I eventually settled on getting a Portuguese egg tart and a kayo (pandan custard) croissant. My friend got the guava mochi. I gulped both desserts down immediately after getting home. They were both great, I can't pick one over the other. It's easy to see why the kaya croissant is a bestseller, it's was light, fresh, and the right amount of sweet for sure. I've had pandan flavored desserts before and this was certain up there with them. Egg tart was fluffy and filling! It was light in terms of flavor without a strong egg flavor for me. Thanks to the many awesome recommendations and pics from fellow yelpers, we came by to check this place out. We didn't realize they were near closing and we saw their coconut buns and honeycomb cakes hot and fresh from the oven. I wanted to try their croissants and egg tarts but the 2 ladies there said they're all sold out and about to close. (Thats when we realized they were closing and we happened to walk in as they were prepping to close). They were nice enough to still sell us the buns and honeycomb cake as we said we literally just got there from SoCal! I will say...perhaps we never had these literally fresh out of the oven in LA and why they were sooo deliciously soft and fluffy but they were still just as good as the moment we bought them the next day!! One of the best I ever had!! Oh I will miss delicious morsels n will get definitely get a few more if i ever go back to visit NorCal! Alongside the egg tarts and all the other items next time!! I pass by this place every time I go to Tastea but I never came in. The other day I decided to come in to take a look at their pastries and WOW I have been missing out. I came in around 4pm on a Thursday afternoon. They had a pretty good selections but I'm not sure if their selection is wider if I came in earlier. I decided on the durian choux which is like a cream puff. A durian custard cream puff is what the choux pastry reminded me of. I was so excited and surprise to see "durian" anything. The lady recommended I also get the durian egg tart..which I was delighted to get. I think she saw how excited I was when I saw the durian choux that she told me to get the egg tart too. The egg tart didn't have a sign saying "durian egg tart" so I'm glad she recommended it to me. I also decided on a Vietnamese coffee cookie. I loveeeeeeee the durian choux!!! I could eat a lot of those in one seating. The egg tart was okay..but in their defense I am not really an egg tart kind of person but I just wanted to try it since it was durian. If you like egg tart and you like durian you will definitely like this. The Vietnamese coffee cookie..it was sweet but bitter. I don't like bitter..so I didn't like it..BUT if you don't like really sweet desserts you would enjoy this cookie..honestly it tasted like a Vietnamese coffee. DUH!!! I will come back here for more durian choux and hopefully try some of their other goodies. Definitely still swinging by for the egg tart and be prepared to wait on the weekend, but the line moves fairly quickly. Parking is pretty packed Pandan Choux Bun (2.5/5): Once again, the choux bun was super soggy, which is unfortunately the entire cream puff experience. Cream was solid enough, but nothing to write home about. Portuguese Egg Tart (4.5/5): Super creamy custard, definitely the best filling I've had so far. The crust this time around wasn't quite as flaky as I remember, but this spot is certainly still worth swinging by just for these. Pandan Honeycomb Cake (2.75/5): I personally didn't love the texture - it felt a little too wet and I wanted it to be more of a bouncy / chewy texture. read more

I've been excited to try this bakery with many treats with an Asian flare. However, it was a little overhyped and the flavors fell a little flat. Ordered a variety: choux, pandan egg tarts, mochi cake and pandan cookies. The choux was too soft, and Hojicha flavor didn't taste like it at all and we couldn't finish it. There was a short line when we got here around 2pm on a Saturday, but the line moved super quickly with 2 employees taking orders and another 2 serving orders. This place is togo only, and they'll give you a nice box and plastic bag to hold your pastries so that they don't get crushed. I got the ube croissant and durian egg tart. They gave me a durian choux by accident but were nice to still give me the egg tart afterwards. The ube croissant was huge and flaky. The ube cream wasn't super sweet and not overwhelmingly thick. I asked the staff what is the most popular items, and bought their recommendations: -Black sesame choux: this was dry and the filling was mediocre in flavor. I only ate two bites and then thew it away as it was not good. -Ube choux: the pastry for this was equally dry, but the filling was better than the black sesame choux. I once again only ate two bites and then thew it away as it was also not good. -Egg tart: not good. The filling wasn't flavored as well as other Chinese bakeries that sell egg tarts and the outside pastry was too thick. All in all I would not recommend this bakery to anyone. This bakery is a hidden gem. It's similar to 85 degrees but cheaper prices. The Pandan milk bread is so good and they give you a whole loaf that looks like green Hawaiian bread. You can't go wrong with any of the desserts. The durian is even good and doesn't smell because it's baked in. read more

Unfortunately, this bakery still requires customers to order from the door, a practice that seems to have stayed since the height of the pandemic and it seems it has not reverted back. Kaya Croissant: This croissant was filled with pandan custard, a sweet green flavor reminiscent of vanilla with a hint of nuttiness. It was deliciously flaky, and in almost every bite it had a good amount of filling. The sweetness was well balanced, making it a pastry i would get again. A solid 9/10 Guava Mochi Cake: This pastry was soft and chewy mochi with flakes spread across a good sized pastry. However, I wish the mochi texture had been consistent throughout the entire pastry, rather than only being in the middle. Just like the mochi, I also wished there would of been more guava jelly.
