I come to Cafe Bernardo in Midtown often and it's always great. This time I ordered the salmon Caesar salad with extra pickles on the side and it was absolutely perfect. The salmon was cooked perfectly and went so well with the Caesar salad. Everything tasted fresh and balanced. The extra pickles on the side were amazing! Literally my favorite. The service is always great and the staff are very friendly which makes the experience even better. For sure one of my favorite spots!

We at lunch at the busy Cafe Bernardo inside the Fort Sutter hotel. We were greeted by the bartender as soon as we entered the space and told we could sit anywhere we chose. We were served immediately and given menus. We ordered and our food arrived in a timely manner and as ordered. Hubs ordered a Point Reyes blue cheese burger with caramelized onions and a mixed green salad. It was a 1/2 lb burger and hubs said it was very good. I ordered a Niman Ranch Ham and Gruyere grilled sandwich on sourdough, served with dijonnaise and caramelized onions. This was delish and large. Really could have been shared. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cute modern casual. It felt hip even in the hotel lobby. Overall, this was a good find. I would eat here again.

Went for the first time with my friend. I love the outside patio!! Service and food were delicious. I got a small Caesar salad and added salmon on top.

OMG, I meant to write this sooner, but got really busy after we came back from Sacramento! This would be for a mid-January experience! I thought I wrote a review last year but I can't find it, just pics, but I still love this place! Granted, it's not the cheapest place in town, but it fits the vibe for being part of the Fort Sutter Hotel. We experienced several meals here because we were staying at the hotel. We love the staff here - they are all super friendly and helpful, and they've been very accommodating despite how busy they can get for breakfast especially. I'm not sure why someone complained about their food in other reviews, but we've not had anything bad, and in fact, find the food really quite tasty and refreshing! Breakfast/Brunch seems to be the best and tastiest, with a good variety and quite well done. Toast came with a yummy strawberry jam that tastes homemade! Even their English Breakfast tea is good, without tasting like old coffee, like some other places, LOL. We did discover their fruit crisp this year, and double thumbs up & super delicious, like a warm hug! That became our go-to dessert, because our favorite dessert we had last year was gone. They had a chocolate-espresso cake that was amazing and yummy, but alas, we were told it has been taken off their bakery list. We think it ought to be brought back!! By the way, the baked goods are not on a menu, you have to look in the bakery display to see what's available. Thanks to the staff there, especially the last Sunday brunch - one of them took some great pics of our breakfast meet with an old friend, really appreciated that! We'll be back when we come back to Sac! :)

We found the service and ambiance to be pleasant. Our order arrived in a fair amount of time and as ordered. While we enjoyed our visit, we won't be back because this restaurant is one that sneaks in an extra service charge.

Our meals were delicious, prepared well. We had a Niman Ranch burger which was tasty, though quite small, a mushroom salad and a delicious salmon salad. Prices are very reasonable and service was fast and friendly. We ate indoors which had a nice, airy vibe. Outdoor sidewalk dining space was busy, also with a fun, city vibe. We'd return for sure, especially prior to a show at the Sofia!

We stopped by Cafe Bernardo after running a morning 5k. My mother and I each got avocado toast, one with egg and one without. My husband got a breakfast burrito. All of us really enjoyed our meals. The food is definitely delicious. I had no idea this location was a part of a hotel, so that was interesting! The restroom is in the hotel side of the building. The service was great, everything came out fast and correctly. I would definitely come back!

Love this particular location. It is near sutter which is great if you have a loved one who is staying at that hospital. Just a cute little 5 minute walk. Ambience is a 5/5 al fresco dining. Food is also great! Especially for brunch I couldn't decide without ordering everything. Also, food came quickly and service is great. 5/5 all over.

This was such a lovely place. The staff and management were so nice and friendly. I ordered the salmon burger which was delicious and the sweet potato fries were crispy and wonderful. It is a little pricey but it was good. I would definitely recommend for a nice lunch.

I didn't know this location existed but it is a great location. They open at 7am which coincides with the start of surgeries across the street at Sutter. The place is pretty big with various types of seating and a large patio. I had the bacon avocado omelette $16 and a coffee. The food was fresh and tasty. Nothing special but after waking up at 4:30am for patient drop off the food hit the spot. I saw lots of Sutter staff meeting here. If you need a spot for a bite and a place to chill while waiting for a loved one Cafe Bernardo is perfect.

Weekend brunch date found us looking for somewhere new and fun, specifically somewhere we could enjoy the food and nice weather! My partner recommended this place, and so we headed out. You walk up to the register first to place your order, then grab your number and find a table to your liking. I really enjoyed that freedom and there was hardly no wait. The customer service was very friendly, we explained it was our first time. They recommended some items and answered any questions. I wound up getting a bacon avocado omelet with fresh fruit and an Arnold Palmer. My date has the eggs Benedict with fresh fruit as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and our drinks. There was lots of flavor and fresh ingredients! Tip some drinks do come with a free refill; arnold Palmer, but you have to go back to the register to ask for it. We really enjoyed our meals, drinks and time there. Will for sure be back and thank you for a nice brunch experience.

Overall? A pretty solid breakfast spot. The ambiance is a standout, the blend of indoor and outdoor seating feels intentional and well designed, perfect for a relaxed start to the day. The menu leans slightly eclectic but stays grounded in the breakfast staples, which we appreciated. Ordering at the counter is a plus as it saves time and keeps things moving. No issues with the service Parking? Street parking mainly, though since it's attached to a hotel, there may be additional options for guests We had: Two Egg Breakfast (3.5/5): Presentation was clean and inviting, but execution was hit or miss. My eggs were slightly overdone with crisped edges, taking away from what could've been a simple, well prepared plate. Toast had a good crunch but lacked depth, no real flavor standout. The fruit preserves were a pleasant surprise and added a bright, fresh note. Bacon was decent, cooked well, though it could've used more of that rich, savory fat to bring it home Single Pancake with a Side of Scrambled Eggs (4.5/5): My daughter's dish, but I snuck a few bites, and it was good. The pancake was light and airy, with just enough sweetness and a nice golden finish. The eggs were soft-scrambled with a creamy, buttery texture that showed a bit more finesse

I went with my wife and friends last night to enjoy a meal and cocktail before our show at The Sophia. We sat in the bar area of the hotel as it was festive for Christmas. Service was great and attentive. My salmon dish has been amazing the last few times that I have ordered it. I always ask for no salt and it works out perfectly. The quality of the food you get for the price is great. Their main dishes/ big plates are under $30 which I think nowadays is rare. Paragary's restaurants have a reward program so if you dine frequently, it's worth signing up.

Ask the Community - Cafe Bernardo

Are dinner plates still served here? Or is it now just breakfasts, sandwiches, and salads? I saw items like Stroganoff, Flat Iron Steak, and Grilled Salmon on older menu photos (2021?) but not on newer photos. Are these things still offered?

    Is there Happy Hour?

Not yet. However, Four Palms (the bar at the hotel) does offer a bar bites menu at 5pm. I'm usually there for lunch, so I haven't experienced it yet, but when I looked at it, it sounded pretty good.

The Standouts: * Oh my goodness get that octopus dish back in my mouth. Wow, I can't describe adequately the unique texture they were able to get on it, with a crispy exterior and tender interior. There was a generous helping of garlic sauce which came with it and the potatoes that were on the side were also fantastic. Easily the best dish of the night. * The Ravioli was also delicious. It comes with a herby, earthy pesto on top and a delightful balance of cheese filling. * Lovely selection of Italian drinks including alcoholic and NA options * Interesting bruschetta flight - 4 pieces of toast each with a different type of topping. The onion Jam and pesto ones stood out to me. The Improvement Points: * The AC was not working very well when we were there. It got pretty toasty in the dining room given that it was a Sacramento summer day. I would love to see the AC back up and running next time. * The Carbonara, while nice, was not a standout in my opinion. They have a carbonara, they do it well enough, but nothing particularly special - light on the guanciale. * Location is certainly loud. Just the way the dining room is designed, no problem with the experience. Just be prepared to listen and speak up a little for dinner.

The inside was pillow-y soft, and when mixed with the salsa verde was full of flavor with a fabulous punch of garlic. The salsa verde could be put over a nice flank steak and it would absolutely kill. That said, the octopus was a bit *too* crispy. I felt I had to really chew to get it down, and I just wanted a nice snappy skin for some textural juxtaposition. For my entree, I got the Bolognese which was definitely full of salt. The pasta was wonderfully thin and bouncy, but I feel the chef may have had an off-day. My friend and I had to down like multiple cups of water with our meal which made it hard to enjoy. Plus, the garlic bread felt like biting into a brick. The inside was quite fluffy and soft, but the crust was simply too crispy. I almost felt like my teeth were going to give way. Honestly, I can't in good faith recommend this place to my friends, so neither would I recommend it to you. (aside from the pasta classes)

We arrived at Ella just before our 9:15 reservation and were promptly sat at a beautiful table. And wow, this table was gorgeous! The beautiful design of the space keeps your eyes entertained on every level. Both beauty and intrigue. It is a feast for the eyes before you get to the actual feast. However, we were hoping for a more intimate date experience so we asked for somewhere a little more secluded. Without hesitation, we were moved to another, equally beautiful table. Enter Kelly and Hunter. These two help to make our evening even more spectacular. The ambience was perfect. We started with their signature cocktail, gin and tonic with their homemade tonic and a martini. Hey-ooo! Dang that was a good drink. And efficient ;) We moved onto the heirloom tomato starter. Here is where I realized it started to get a little difficult. I was trying to look polished and refined, and really, you could've licked the plate. My handsome man is a vegetarian so he got the Barada spaghetti. I'm assuming he liked it because he ate every last bite. That, and he told me it was delicious. I ordered the lobster risotto. I have a hard time with food that looks too pretty to eat. But, I stopped staring at the beauty of the plate once the delicious smell rose in the air. Best risotto I've ever had. Hands-down. Makes a second place look pretty sad. No dessert but that can be remedied the next time we visit. We ended up having one of those dates where we ordered the appetizer and an hour later we hadn't finished it because we were still talking. I realized we hadn't even finished our appetizer course and yet, the restaurant was almost empty. When Hunter came by to refill the waters, I apologized that we hadn't even started eating yet and asked what time they closed. Hunter proceeded to provide the most amazing interaction. Making eye contact with both of us, he very kindly explained how they wanted this dinner to be an utterly unique experience and not worry. That we are here to enjoy ourselves in this beautiful restaurant so drink in every moment. And so we did. Kelly was awesome. We chatted for a bit about the musical tattoos on her hands. Just kind and sincere. Incredibly diligent service. At no time was I in need of anything. Waters were kept full, table kept cleared, food served exactly on time. It's a well oiled machine underneath the vibrant atmosphere. The food was spectacular. The ambience was one of a kind. A feast at every level. However, for a dining room with such ambition, a few of the flavors fell a bit short of the depth and complexity our palettes were hoping for. This is my first classic martini (unlike lychee martinis I've had before at other places). My server asked how I like it, with olive juice or with lemon twist or another option I don't remember. To be honest I don't know how I like it because it's is my first classic martini. So I was honest with him. I said I'll do whatever you recommend because I wanted to try a classic martini cuz I've been watching Gossip Girl. I felt silly admitting I wanted a martini because of a tv show. But my server actually did his research and found that Blair (a main character in the show) likes her martini with a lemon twist. And that is the martini I got. He brought frozen glass and poured the drink on the spot. It was such a vibe and a great drink. For food I got the grilled prawns. This dish is delicious and goes so well with my martini! For my second drink I got the shiso fresh. I was debating between two drinks and asked my server for suggestions. He is absolutely right with this recommendation. I opted for the Kumquat Kiss, which was delicious and different. Besides that Old Fashioned, the Hash Brown Lyonnaise really stole the show. Pillow-light hash brown sticks (how did they do that?!) with a scrumptious onion dip with crispy shallots and finely chopped chives. This is one of my top happy hour dishes of the year. Just wow! Try it yourself and tell me you don't agree. The Grilled Prawns missed the mark for me a bit, although the husband liked them. Tasty, but just not as much of a star as the other dish. Only suggestion is to have a happy hour menu for bites as well as beverages, as is found on the website. This would help avoid the need for staff to present a dinner menu (which admittedly, I was confused by) and acknowledge that the first course options are all available but at no happy hour discount (which felt a bit awkward for all involved). Overall, a delightful discovery!

When I tell you these portions are huge, yall, I mean HUGE!…read more I ordered the fish and chips and it was honestly enough for 3 meals! I couldn't believe it. My dad got the jambalaya and couldn't finish his - which is insanely rare for him. We started with the crab cakes to share and our food came out almost immediately after the crab cakes were served - it was A LOT of food at once! But it was all delicious so no complaints here! The fish was perfectly battered and their fries were absolutely delectable - both the fries and fish were perfect GBD. I tried a happy hour margarita which was good, very standard happy hour marg. My dad ordered a specialty beer which is definitely the way to go at this craft house. Our waitress was lovely, incredibly friendly. The restaurant itself is very cool - black seats and tables for a more intimate ambiance. They have great happy hour options so I would definitely take advantage of those!
