I want to like this place. In fact, I want to love it because the owners are really dedicated to Kailua, the place is convenient with FREE parking, and our little town needs a genuine community-based restaurant. However, my three visits over the past 6 months suggest that: (1) I'm not making the right menu choices; or (2) the owners need more attention to quality and value. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Philly steak sandwich. Served on focaccia bread that was dry and somewhat tasteless, the sandwich was approximately 4" square with a modest amount of melted cheese, a few sautéed onions, and even fewer pieces of steak. Three small, tough slices of steak probably equaled 1 ounce of meat (if that). The price for this snack was nearly $20. My lunch companion ordered the Chinese dumplings. These took twice as long to prepare as the sandwich and were small and unremarkable. Small portions and high prices might be on trend but diners should expect a great culinary experience under these conditions. Cafe Kopi needs to keep trying to get it right. read more

Cute cafe, all the pastries look so appetizing. Got the Cubano and almond croissants. The croissants were not what I was expecting. They were very crunchy all the way through, kinda like eating a a a cross between a cracker/short bread and pie crust texture. It was really difficult to bite into. Taste was fine but I wouldn't call it a croissant. However will go back to try out their other menu items. read more

Absolutely delightful coffee shop near the Coconut Grove part of Kailua. Cozy place for a cup of coffee and pastry, super-friendly staff, good prices, and easy to walk to other off-the-beaten-path parts of town. Make sure you try their croissants. I had classic, my husband's got chocolate one. It's buttery and flakey. Very tasty. There are some parking spots in the back of the cafe, so that you don't need to deal with the street parking meters that only take coins.... read more

Was so excited to see this place going in and so glad I finally got to stop in! Ambiance is great, and has a great outdoor back patio area where I will come back to work from sometime soon. I had a perfect flat white and a beautiful pain au chocolat; next time for sure will order more food and some other drinks to work my way through the menu. Such a cute little cafe! I've been stalking their instagram account for ages b/c they post the most amazing looking food photos. They only sell bakery items and dumplings on weekdays, but they have more substantial offerings on the weekends. I got the fruit tart and the Chinese dumplings and they were both fantastic. The sauce that comes with them is delicious but very spicy! While we were eating, the owner came out asked us if we'd like to taste test her new recipe for vegan jackfruit curry. I don't typically like curry, but this one was yummy! Lots of vegetables (jackfruit, baby corn, mushrooms, eggplant, carrots, and more) and the perfect amount of spiciness that wasn't overwhelming. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. My husband and I live in Mililani, so about a 40 minute drive away, but we make the trip as often as we can because it's such a treat! The Kopi Peng and the Sunrise coffee (espresso with orange juice!) are our favorites and we try a new pastry with every visit! Aside from the amazing food and coffee, we love to see what new artist is showcased on the walls and what music playlist will be playing from the sound system. Plus, there's outdoor seating in the back that's covered so you don't have to worry about sitting in the sun. All this made better knowing we're supporting a husband and wife business- and having met them once or twice I can confirm they're the loveliest people! I will say that sometimes food or drinks take a few minutes longer than a place like Starbucks to be served, but It's never bothered me; Kopi is a place you want to sit and enjoy, not leave in a hurry. I was recommended by my daughter to go there when visiting Kailua. It was my first time eating foods from Singapore. The laksa was very delicious but also all the pastries. Second time I tried the bread pudding and it was the best I ever had! Now today I tried the laksa (Singaporean dish) for the first time and it was the most delicious dish I ever had! I'm in kailua every Friday and ever since I stopped the first time to check out this new cafe, it has become a ritual. They keep adding more and more delicious food. My usual go-to pastry is a chocolate croissant and their pain au chocolat does not disappoint. But I was even more impressed with the almond croissant. Last week I had the dumplings which were so good I had to have them again today. And if the food and yummy coffees/teas are not enough, the vibe will definitely keep you coming back. While the state of Hawaii is mandating the covid shot or negative test, Cafe Kopi zealously enforces this. The owner meets you outside the shop to demand your shot card. She does not ask "Are you doing take out (which doesn't require showing papers) or dine in?" She just demands your papers. It's very off putting. Despite this, we did order a coffee and dessert to go. When our latte was made in a real cup, she took it from our hands and dumped it in a paper cup instead of asking if we could finish it in 15 minutes (the allowed time). If people want to frequent a restaurant that eagerly supports showing covid papers, definitely support them. If this is not your style, then I recommend going elsewhere. read more

I had a chance to stop in and try a few things at Cafe Kopi in Kailua. I went with a Chocolate Croissant and a Lavender Latte. Honestly, both were incredible. The croissant texture was incredibly crispy and flakey on the outside. By contrast, the inside of the croissant was perfectly soft and filled with a generous amount of deliciously rich chocolate. The Lavender Latte had just the right blend of coffee, milk and an essence of Lavender. I am now craving this combination and will certainly be back again soon. Customer service from employees was very good as well, the only thing I noticed was an older man acting very rude to the younger employees that were doing a good job in my eyes.
