Not your ordinary New York style cheesecake! LUST for chocolate, INDULGE in flavors and SINFUL fruit textures and then joins the IMPOSTERS!!! A definite must try if you enjoy deserts and fluffy light cheesecake!!!! Crème Brulee and Tiramisu my picks of imposters, followed by Haupia would be my "to buy" again.... Located in the heart of Chinatown you will find a quiet little bakeshop that serves as their slogan goes "a slice of heaven". Definite MUST TRY

We decided to grab some dessert after dinner at the pig and the lady. When we first walked in we noticed the owner and her friends enjoying their glasses of wine. Apparently they were open so we proceeded to order our cheesecakes. (no greeting whatsoever, we honestly thought there was a party happening) They run for $6 a slice and we also ordered the chocolate lava cake that was $5. -Cherry Amaretto cheesecake: The cherry was pretty distinctive but the cheesecake was really crumbly? In addition to that the cheesecake barely had any crust. I've had better. (+2/5) -Creme Brûlée cheesecake: This was also really crumbly in consistency. Furthermore it tasted like plain cheesecake with a burnt topping. (The creme brûlée part was so burnt it was inedible) After a few bites we weren't able to take another. (+1/5) -Chocolate lava cake: Tasted like a brownie with a fudge filling. I can't believe i'm saying this but it really tasted like a box mix. (+1/5) I rarely give one star ratings but I am so disappointed. I will not come back. Now it's time to get some cheesecake from otto cakes.

We stumbled upon Cake Envy after having dinner at a nearby restaurant and were happy to find a still open, eat-in dessert shop. The interior is modern with feminine touches and there are a few tables to sit down and enjoy your cheesecake, and coffee or tea, on disposable plates and dixie cups. There is a rotating selection of cheesecakes to choose from in the display case. A small slice is $6 a piece. The cheesecakes are creamy, true to flavor, and most are light/whipped/airy in texture, unless you choose a flavor like Peanut Butter which had a denser consistency. The flavor you choose may also affect the moisture of the cheesecake, we found the Blueberry Silk to be the wettest of the the cheesecakes we tried. They also do a nice job of packing whole cheesecakes/cheesecake slices to go, making this a nice dessert to bring to someone's house or to carry back to the office. Treat yourself or impress your guests with cheesecake from Cake Envy.

Great News! Cake Envy has now added Il Gelato to its menu. This Gelato is amazing and the best on the Island and has won International Competitions. We only tried 3 flavors but there are several more on my list. It's great to have another option in Downtown for a Cold Dessert, plus Gelato is healthier than Ice-cream.

I'm not sure how long they've been around, but I discovered Cake Envy as some friends and I went to grab a few beers at JJ Dolan's and we walked past their storefront. A few days ago while downtown I stopped in to check it out. Inside is a minimal but nice interior. It didn't exactly seem like a welcoming atmosphere to hang out in, but decent enough to enjoy your after dinner dessert. The prices here were a bit high, coming in at $6 per slice of cake, and that is not exactly a huge slice we are talking about. They do have a good selection though, with a lot of traditional flavors, but some interesting options as well. I tried both the pumpkin and the mint chocolate and I enjoyed both. They were fairly dense, but not so thick as to ruin it. The taste was strong and balanced without being overly sweet. Overall, this is a good dessert shop and I think this would be a nice place to finish out a downtown dinner or date. In other words, "I'm a fan."

They have over 70 flavors!! 4.5 stars for the one of the best cheesecakes in HI! Parking: There is street parking available and it's free after 6pm for all those who are Chinese like me! If you can't find street parking, there are several private lots that you can pay to park. If you work or live in Downtown, it's easier to just walk over. It's located right across the Hawaii Theater on Bethel. Food: I don't crave or order any dessert type foods but after have a bite of their fluffy and smooth creme brûlée cheesecake, I was hooked! It's nice that they torch the top of the cheesecake after you order it to keep the top crunchy. With over 70 different flavors, we only had the creme brûlée and root beer tonight. My personal favorite is the creme brûlée. The root beer really tasted like root beer but creme brûlée won in my book. Too bad my phone died before I could take a picture of the root beer slice. Service and Ambiance: The cashier was very nice and spent time to share with us the top sellers and gave us some tips for our next trip back. If you want a specific cheesecake, you can call it in 48 hours ahead of time and they will make it for you! They do rotate cheesecakes daily and to see if they have one you want to try, call them to ask and they will let you know what they have for the day. A slice is only $6 which is very affordable. You can see the layout of the place when you walk by through their large picture window in the front of the store. It's an open concept with music playing as you walk in. The display for cheesecakes is on the left as you walk in and it makes it tough to choose what you want. You can check a flavor menu on the far right wall to see what other flavors they have. They do take credit and cash here. I came very casual and noise was below average. Mink loved their decor because it was simple but elegant. This is a great spot to check out after dinner in one of the many restaurants around the area. They also do take out so if you want to pick something up to surprise someone, you will definitely put a smile on the persons face if you get them a slice or even the whole cheesecake from here. Mink got a slice of the chocolate cheesecake with a strawberry on top before we left. It was that good!

Yes, I am. I am a fan. The first time I had their cheesecake was at our goodbye party for one of my coworker. She was heading back home and she mentioned that she loved the death by chocolate and mango cheesecake from Cake Envy and so we bought one. It was the most delightful cake ever. It was light and fluffy. I've only had really heavy cheesecake cake and so when I tasted cheesecake from Cake Envy, I fell in love. I fell hard. I've been to this location at least 3 times and every time, I've enjoyed all of the slices. I've tried their creme brulee (my favorite), death by chocolate, mango, cherry supreme, heath bar, and another chocolate one. Yup, I'm in big trouble. This place is just too close to me. It's hard to resist.

    Nadia K.

Arrived late on a Friday night to sample the 4 cheesecakes they had remaining: creme brulee, churro, cookies and cream, and lychee. We practically inhaled the cheesecakes. I loved the cinnamony churro cheesecake and my little ones loved the cookies and cream, even requesting a second slice. Cake Envy and Otto Cake definitely have the best cheesecakes around. The shop has plenty of seating, but the hard to find street parking is a deterrent for me.

    Chocolate orange cheesecake $6

Cheesecake, my favorite dessert for life! I read reviews and looked at pictures. This place looked like heaven to me. It's located in downtown right across from the Hawaii Theater. It was a cute little shop decorate really simple and comfy. Everyday, I believe they only have 6 flavors of cheesecake for sale. They have 60 flavors total?! Omg! While looking at the display case...nothing seemed to capture my attention. I'm here, so I decided to get the chocolate orange cheesecake ($6). We sat down by the bench with a bunch of pillows and a big sign on the wall that said delish. I took a bite of it and "WOW", I just felt a little of sweet heaven. It was really delish. It wasn't heavy creamy cheese. It wasn't too sweet. It was right for my tummy. I wish that they would have more different flavor cheesecake. I would come back just to try something else. Definitely pricey for a piece of cheesecake. But can't complain when the cheesecake is that awesome.

Creme brulee, complete with torched to layer. Yuuuummmm

Imagine Homer Simpson salivating over a donut. It's like that. I ate a slice (of Heaven) within minutes! Not proud of it, just saying how awesome it is. What I got today: Mango - nice, light flavor. Filipinos, I gotta tell you this cheesecake rivals Max of Manila's one. Peanut Butter - a creamy Reese's pieces. This will make you LOVE peanut butter. So good. Creme brûlée -just wow. If you see it in the glass, order it. In fact, order 2. It's that yummy. I was surprised Amy pulled out a torch, but then again it is creme brûlée. I am thoroughly impressed and will come back every chance I get. I guess this means I should make good use of my gym membership :/

Very very cute shop! Located on Bethel street right across Hawaii Thearter, the tricky part of any downtown establishment is finding parking. We went around 8pm so street parking isn't that bad... wouldn't know what would be the best place to park during the day. Anyhow, someone needed cheesecake and this was open so we came here. They mainly sell cheesecake but also sell other cakes and gelato too. We ordered their popular Lilikoi slice and Cookies & Cream slice with Sea Salted Caramel gelato and hot teas. The both cheesecakes are well made... light and not to heavy tasting... the lilikoi flavor was nice and the cookies & cream was awesome because it was topped off with oreo cookie crumbs... the crumbs were also in the crust and in the cheesecake too. The gelato was from Il Gelato and we could taste the caramel and vanilla but the sea salt really wasn't there or our palettes were too consumed by the flavors of the cheesecake still freshly in our mouths. Overall, this is a great place to get a cheesecake fix if you have a craving or are in the area. The prices are moderately high, but if they keep making outstanding & flavorful slices of cheesecake, $6 a slice is a piece of cake! Grind on! Pau!

So I'm writing this review, giggling to myself, because I just finished responding to several friends about why the "Pink Velvet" Cheesecake I had, was green. Joyce W. had one theory, and I had another. But in the end, I think we were both wrong? I'll get back to this later. Well, Cake Envy is located on Bethel St. directly across from the Hawaii Theater. The inside is nice. Roomy with a high ceiling and decorated with trendy wall art and knick knacks. Large windows makes for good people watching entertainment in Downtown. These guys have been making cheesecakes for a long time, and through some of the reviews I've read, they have about 60 different varieties. The flavors in the showcase changes every so often, so don't expect to see the same ones on every visit. Although I prefer the classic plain cheesecake, the other ones her are pretty good too. They're not so dense, but creamy with the right amount of sweetness. Recently, they've begun selling Gelato! Who doesn't love that? Best of both worlds under one roof! Getting back to that "Pink" Velvet cheesecake, I know it exists because I saw Amy Y's picture to prove it! Hers was pink pink. Not wannabe pink like mine. Yet, it tasted like "Pink" Velvet. I guess. It was good...but I actually believe that 1) the wrong sign was placed in front of the wrong cheesecake, or 2) I got leftovers from St. Patrick's day. Hopefully, it was my first guess. Hmm... Perhaps it was Pistachio? Guess I'll never really know. Regardless, I'm still a fan of Cake Envy. Street parking only so be prepared.

Stopped by for after lunch snack. I ordered the double chocolate Jack Daniels and my friend had the cookies and cream. Both were heavenly. Very decadent! Be wary though, cheecakes are grea, decor is trendy, but the upside down smiles, unfriendly atmosphere, and the answers you have to pull out of the service counter person, just made me tired and I was curious enough about the cheesecake that I ignored the aloofness of the sales/counter person and stayed. by the way, we were the only ones in there. Thumbs up for the cheesecake ($6), thumbs way down for the service and upside down smiles.

    Very cute!

Lots of chocolate and I think they added toffee in it too. The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! They have baked goods as well as sandwiches u can order. Someone will ask u if u want baked goods first then u go down the counter to order drinks and sandos. Got the everything mochi bagel with cream cheese and the egg & chicken katsu sando. Everything mochi bagel 5/5: so fluffy and light yet still tastes like a bagel. Can be a lil salty on the top where the salt is but contrast with parts that dont have it. Egg sando 5/5: yummy and filling, has cucumber and the milk bread is thick and so fluffy! Chicken katsu sando 5/5: my favorite. I love the spicy mustardy sauce not sure if it's in the actual brown katsu sauce or separate mustard. My bf didnt like it but i loved it! Chicken also juicy and soft. The milk bread is so fluffy and lil sweet and perfect pairing. Interior has lots of tables and seating and they they also have an outdoor patio and they clean the tables frequently which is nice. Recommend!

I had really high hopes for this place but it unfortunately did not live up to the hype. Came here…read morefor dinner with a friend and it was pretty empty. Food/drinks 3/5: We got a strawberry matcha, truffle fries, the egg sando, and chicken katsu sando. The matcha was unfortunately super watery and you could barely taste any matcha. As a truffle lover, I was super excited for the fries, but both my friend and I agreed that we couldn't taste any truffle. The sandwiches although did save this meal. I did enjoy the egg one much more as the katsu one had a strong vinegary sauce that was overpowering the whole sando. Service/Ambiance 4/5: There was plenty of seating and the workers were nice. We were really hoping to try the shrimp sando but they were out. Don't think I will be coming back to try it though.

I really want to give this place another try but for now, my review is for their boba drink. I had…read morea huuuuuge boba craving (as usual) while we were down here and I saw a kid walking around with one! We hunted for it and came across this little kiosk. No line at all, pretty early in the afternoon on a warm, and nice day overall. Surprising to see that it wasn't busier. I went for my usual, Thai tea with boba, just a small size since I was a bit hesitant on it. I should've honestly trusted my gut and went for an iced latte boba instead. The only reason I didn't was because I already had my cold brew coffee in the morning/for the day and didn't want to overdo it. I also should've asked if they brew it fresh.... I should know better by now and here I was, extremely disappointed. My poor drink was not good. I wish I could've finished it but I was struggling. They had reeeeally good chewy boba but the drink itself was nasty. They use powdered Thai tea which is not the way to go, ever. It's missing that strong, Thai tea flavor and honestly just tastes like a weird birthday cake flavor. I was extremely bummed but we plan on visiting again in the near future and will definitely update my review then. I'm sure their coffee drinks are better and I hear they're known for their egg tarts. IG: @ammysalamii

My only regret...not buying more! It's 2 for $6, 5 for $12 or 12 for $22. We got 5…read more I've had the original Portuguese egg tart in Lisbon and in Macau. This is my first in San Diego and it tastes just as good. Portuguese egg tart crusts are made out of puff pastries while Chinese egg tarts are made out of shortcrust casing like a cheesecake crust. The puff pastries makes it flaky and less doughy. The custard is also less eggy and more creamy in the Portuguese version. I also got the Macau Dolgona coffee no boba with half and half. So good! Must try. You have to really stir to mix it all. This kiosk stand is literally between Gap and Banana Republic, more so towards Gap. Make sure to eat it when it's warm and it takes like 3 bites.
