Was craving pho and found this place on Yelp en route to our destination. Came a bit early for dinner. We were the only ones there. At the end of our dinner, another party came. I was surprised that this place was a Korean fusion of a pho spot. They offer pho, fried chicken and a good variety of Korean dishes. I would have tried the Korean items such as jamm pho but since I was craving Vietnamese pho, I went for it. I always get my meat on the side. The meat came out a bit brown but didn't smell. The bowls are HUGE! Definitely spacious. The spoon they provide you is ladle size! The soup is ok, noodles were on the harder side (vs soft and mushy). I love my pho noodles chewy, these were not, just hard. Water is Korean style in metal cups with a plastic water bottle to refill. The fried chicken wings were very good, Thai chili sauce on side to dip. Also ordered banh mi, it was pretty good. The Vietnamese coffee was good, came in a boba style sealed cup. I like the play on words for the store name. They sell decorative surf boards for $19.99 each. The lady serving us, I think she was the owner, was nice. Glad we stopped here. I've come here a number of times, and can say they're consistent in all aspects. Starting with the service: FOH staff always has tunnel vision while on the floor. While they are polite and kind, everyone working the floor lacks a necessary attention to their guests. During my most recent visit I was trying to flag someone down to refill our water, and watched the lone server & the manager pass by a combined seven times to drop off food / take orders at neighboring tables (seemed to be on autopilot) before we finally got their attention. I had placed the empty, clear caraffe on the edge of the table so they wouldn't miss it, but it just sat there while many "excuse me" attempts missed their ears. Food is always good and is portioned generously. Broth is flavorful and soup is customizable with the regular bean sprouts / lime / onion served on the side. Pho tends to arrive before any appetizers / small plates, but everything is usually pretty quick. Again, quality is consistent. Overall vibe of the place is as casual as it is comfortable. Needed some soup on a rainy night and this place came up on the search. Gave it a try since other regular options were not available for late night. Soup comes in huge bowls so broth is generous. Noodle portion seemed about normal large. Lots of seafood but less meat, as in several pieces of cut squid aside from a couple large calamari rings, 6 pieces of small shrimp, 6-8 halves of fish balls, and then tripe and tendon and meatballs, and maybe 4 smaller cuts of brisket and rare steak. Broth was a little light for my taste but good enough. $17.99, not bad. about the same I'd pay in KTown after pandemic increases happened. This review would be 4 stars however upon closing out, the server informed me after I had looked at the bill and my gave my debit and he returned with the check that the owner charges .50 cents for a standard foam to go soup container. Servers and service were good. And I understand times are hard for businesses especially restaurants. Some places are even charging more now for take out. But if I'm paying an extra charge for food I'm going to enjoy later and not waste, then there better be a reusable plastic container instead. Yay! A new pho spot open pretty late. Walking in I was immediately impressed with how clean and nicely decorated the restaurant is. There is a lot of tables that would be able to fit big groups. So my review of bun cha will only be for people who have never tried it before. I'm sure I did some rookie mistake, like eating the meat out of a hotdog, then complaining that the white bread bun with ketchup and mustard is unappetizing. Anyway... I hated the bun cha! It seemed like a bowl of pho, minus the broth. I ate the meat first, then didn't find anything else appetizing in the bowl. In bun cha, the noodles are served cold, which might be ok on a hot day. She brings us someone else's plate that clearly you can tell they eat off of. There was flies everywhere. I couldn't even eat my food in peace when I tell you there was mosquitoes and flies everywhere. It was just disgusting. I couldn't even eat my food. Just very horrible service not a good environment. I've been to the Cali Pho Nia in Koreatown many times, had no idea they had a second location until I was in Van Nuys today and stumbled upon it. Service was really great here, and the food is consistently delicious, just like the Ktown location. They have a more expansive menu here with Korean food, like bulgogi.
