For years my brother and his wife have wanted to revisit, as they dined here during their honeymoon. The family reunion provided an opportunity to do so, joined by me and their son. As a person with limited mobility I appreciated adjacent to the handicap ramp was a special entrance straight into the dining area. Very atmospheric. Reminds me of historic National Park inns with the fireplace and wood framing. Decor reinforces the theme of the lumber industry of lore. Brought back memories of Big Sam by Sam Churchill, a memoir of growing up in a logging camp in this area circa 1900. Staff was very accommodating of my disability. Nice sturdy chairs. With a moderate appetite I settled on a cheeseburger and fries plus root beer. When the burger arrived I was surprised how hefty it was, very solid. Burger had great flavor, enhanced by the fresh produce (lettuce, tomato) plus pickled on a sesame seed bun. Fries were thick and chewy. Waiter on request provided some thousand dressing which was perfect for the fries. My sister-in-law let me sample some of her fish and chips and the fish was moist, not dried out. I was too full to have dessert but we got to go some of their legendary cinnamon rolls, half of which I had the following morning. Half was still massive, really delicious and to my delight has some raisins amid the swirls. Missed breakfast when online says it ended at 2. It now ends at 1. So had lunch, it was one of the worst meals we've had. our hot sandwiches were cold fries seemed reheated, lunchtime had just started. Kitchen needs to care more how they serve their food. After looking at photos in the reviews, I saw that they have a grilled cheese on the menu for $9.99. After going in person, it was not on the menu. The server said they took it off but can still make it. After getting the bill, they charged me $14 for it. It was literally just a slice of cheese on white bread with some fries. It tasted like a grilled cheese you can make at home. I asked the guy working the cash register about it and his response was " I don't know, they changed the menu prices." But all other menu items were the same price. I feel overcharged and ripped off. I advise spending your money at a restaurant that's not just basic, overpriced food. read more

The theme here is; wood. And more wood. Carved wooden sentinels pose staring, alone. Taxidermy critters. Not fast enough. This is the company you keep when you visit. I guess I would rather look at them than my final bill. Kids' breakfast was a little spendy. One slice of french toast? Son thought potatoes were too greasy. Eggs benedict with hormel ham? If I didn't speak up, I would have been passed up on a second cup o coffee. To say the least, I was not too impressed. Maybe the gift shop gets more respect. Wife had the French dip which was delicious. The beef and the dip were great. She had their gluten free bread. I had liver and onions, and I requested it be cooked in butter because I avoid vegetable oil which gives me headaches. The liver was tender and perfectly seasoned. The onions were mild and perfectly cooked. The butter made it extra delicious. We'd like to stop by again. I'd like to try the beef stew and the razor clams! read more

I have eaten at Camp 18 for years. Their menu covers just about everything delicious you can think of. The beautiful fall leaves created a sort of canopy through Highway 26 and it ushered me close to the door for convenient parking. It was straight up 1 o'clock and the usual bustling crowd was waiting to be seated. Everyone from staff to customers was wearing masks. I asked to be seated next to the fire as I was chilled and the hostess told me that area was packed but she had a great spot for me by a heat vent. The waitress brought water and took my order of a Halibut sandwich and a substitute salad. She brought my Sprite and crisp, fresh salad out immediately and she was just the most cordial person. My sandwich arrived hot, fresh and served on a soft, white delicious bun. The portions were large and I am confident the meal could have served 2 people. Some folks may not think my order was particularly ornate or complicated. But the salad was cold and fresh. The halibut was hot and the bun toasted perfectly. My waitress was friendly and remembered every detail. Lunch does not get any better! read more

Summary of my experience: an extremely unhappy camper that will never return. My friends and I walked into what was a busy lobby - guest waiting to be seated and some waiting to pay with over half of the dining area not even full. It took between 5 - 10 minutes for a staff member to even acknowledge that the line was growing and the guest were also growing impatient. The disappointing part was that staff members had walked passed the lobby on countless times. The aspect that frustrated me was the lack of customer service skills from the host. The group in front of us informed her, the host, there was another group that may have left without paying due to the wait. This was a kind gesture from the group but the host didn't seem to care one bit. There was clearly eye contact but no acknowledgement with a simply "thank you." This isn't even mentioning the fact that when my party got seated, she didn't apologize for the wait. She simply asked how many, grabbed the menus and sat us down. Having a family with a restaurant background, it is common practice to apologize for the wait when there is a long line. Yes, it may sound demanding or high maintenance but as they say, first impression is everything and she did not set a great one by ignoring what the group had informed her. I completely understand that a restaurant can be understaff or dealing with a situation but a simply acknowledgement can go a long way when it comes to customer service. read more

Great place to eat and unwind in a beautiful lodge. Very romantic areas to sit and enjoy a nice meal. They don't have a huge menu and there are usually teenagers working the table but everyone act's professional and the food is delicious. I kick myself for not finding it sooner. A little pricey but it is well worth it and there is a souvenir shop attached to it next to it. My wife and I will always stop there from now on!! read more

We have been eating here over the years, Todays experience was the worst. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated ( not bad ), then waited for 20 minutes before the server stopped by the table. She asked if we wanted to order and what we would like to drink we replied water, she then left the table and returned 5 minutes later with a tray of water glasses put 2 down and went around to other tables delivering them water. Meanwhile a couple that was seated 10 minutes after us were served their order. When she returned my wife asked if sandwiches were available yet her reply was not for 20 minutes. I ordered biscuits and gravy the wife ordered an Denver omelet. when the food arrived 15 minutes later the potatoes were barely warm, the ends of the omelet were cold, there was no butter or jam for the biscuit and My gravy was barely warm & the sausage was hard to find. We could not see her anywhere in the dining room until she came back 15 minutes later and wanted to know if we would like anything else at that time, we told her about the food. She did not offer an apology and simply stated she would bring us our check. Needless to say we wont return. read more

Like any other small town restaurant that caters to the tourist crowds, nice and friendly atmosphere. The portions here are huge and service is fast. Our usual pit stop for food is Oregon's famous place for clam chowder but I think this will be our new favorite. All the dishes we ordered were very good, not over seasoned and delicious. I actually gave this place a 3.5, because though service was fast, it felt like we're were rushed to order and eat so they can turn the table over. We came between 2:30-3pm, and there wasn't a big crowd. I still recommend this place for all travelers on HWY 26. A must try. read more

I have been wanting to stop at camp 18 since the late 80s. My parents always gave me the "maybe next time" response. As always, "next time" never happened. I finally made it a priority, as an adult, to do some of those "next time" things. The craftsmanship is beautiful. The staff was nice but wholly disorganized. When a customer has to inform the front desk people on the tasks other front desk people are doing...you might be in need of some training. 3 times a staff member went out to call a name while another staff member came to the desk and started calling the same name. On to the food. I ordered a cinnamon roll and my wife ordered a breakfast plate. I will say I have never in my life received a cinnamon roll with a huge scoop of butter on top. That's just wrong. Once the butter was removed it was reminiscent of a cinnamon roll out of a tube...with raisins. I like cinnamon raisin things...not so much in roll form apparently. It gave an odd texture, though not as bad as the raw granulated sugar and cinnamon on the bottom. It was big though. On my wife's breakfast the eggs were ok, the sausage was good, the biscuits tasted like play dough (yes I have to admit I know the salty floury taste of play dough) and the potatoes were...slimy, unsalted, and slightly cold. I will do my best to wipe the experience from my memory and hold on to the childhood dreams of a cinnamon roll the size of my head. read more

Beautiful cabin style building out on mile post 18, hence the restaurant name. The building is humongous and very spacious. The timbers used in the construction are massive. I ordered the club sandwich with a side of clam chowder. The service was excellent. The sandwich had a little too much mayo with made it a little messy but it was tasty. The clam chowder was really good too. The far right corner of the restaurant has a window overlooking the forest. If you pay close attention you can see they have installed about ten bird feeders . We saw over 10 different birds in the short time we were there. read more

I don't think they are as good as they used to be (years ago). Not sure if they have a different cook or are cutting back on costs but it doesn't taste good. We have been in for breakfast lunch and dinner and were not happy with any of it. My wife's last dinner came with overcooked canned green beans as the vegetable. Yuck, didn't like them in grade school and I still don't like them (especially not when they're overcooked). Still love the service, the decor and the location though. Best razor clams I've ever had. Camp 18 is in the mountains, not near the coast; it's on the way on Highway 26. Looks like a tourist trap, but don't let that fool you. The food and service have always been good and they give large portions. Razor clams are the local delicacy, so I looked for them all along the coast without success. On the way home we stopped here for lunch and scored some clams!! Sweet, lightly breaded and sooo delicious. My mouth is watering writing this. You won't regret going there. read more

When you pull off the road in the way from the coast you are struck by the beauty of the location. They have really given you that lodge feel and decorated the entire parcel with old logging equipment. Once inside the building is beautiful with open beams and fireplaces. Then the quality drops off. The food is nothing special, the usual comfort food found at any diner. And the service was slow. At one point I got up and went to get the pitcher of water on a nearby table the were using for storage. After pouring water for the table the server showed up and grabbed another pitcher and offered to leave it there. Kind of on the expensive side as well. read more

There was a 20 min wait I'm not sure if it's because it was a Sunday or if it's the norm around here but there is a gift shop to help kill the time. We ordered a cinnamon roll, well because they just looked delicious and I had to try a bite! My only complaint would be is that it's not served with a spatula to help make it to your plate with out making an ooie, gooey, mess! I don't normally order chicken fried steak but I did here and it was pretty tender and had decent flavor. My other half had the kiebosa skillet and it was really good! Pretty decent meal actually. Service was good, staff was pleasant. I was hesitant when i saw some reviews saying it was more of a rushed experience but we didnt get that at all. It was a bit busy as it seems this place is really popular with breakfast seekers. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was good, wasnt the best I've ever had but far away from anything bad. I want to start my review by stating that this place is in fact NOT overpriced. I've read many reviews claiming this, but the reality is that for the quality and amount of food you pay for, they're actually underpriced in my opinion. We sat in the upstairs part of the restaurant, that serves as their bar as well. Not as much seating as downstairs, but the seating that was there was available. From this area you can also see how big the restaurant really is. Plus, they have a few large trinkets to look at, and even an I.Q. test (with missing pieces) at the table. I ordered the Riggin's Boss Burger. The burger actually sounded bigger than it was, but the patty and fixings might have been overshadowed by the giant burl bun it was stuffed between. I do love the idea of using that bun, the problem is it was A LOT of bread. My burger was cooked well, medium rare even though I didn't ask for it that way, but it's the way I like it anyway. Both the burger and the fries were perfectly seasoned. Our waitress brought me a dish of au jus, and another dish with a ton of blue cheese dressing. It's like she was reading my mind. Our waitress was amazing, and I give her credit for doing a ton of work as she kept a smile on her face and an amazing attitude. I really do suggest checking this place out. Whew! Don't get me started on this place. We walked in and waited 5-8 minutes before even being greeted by a host, who by the way, was standing at the podium. She could have acknowledged we were standing there it was awkward. The bathrooms smelled like poop, you could smell them in the lobby. They sat us outside, no big deal. We sat for LITERALLY 10 minutes before someone even came up to ask us for drinks/food. After another 10-15 minutes our drinks finally came out. The server seemed under the influence of drugs. The table next to me had multiple server visits as I sat without even water. 20 full minutes later a server came by. She took my order...was very rushed. It was dropped very quickly so I sought out a busboy to ask if I could get my server or some bread. On this past Saturday (July 14th) my wife had a plan. We were going to have breakfast at home and get some yardwork done. You know, a little weeding, a little mowing. Stuff you gotta do when you own a home. The Friday before we looked at the weather forecast. 93°...woah. We thought about that for a bit. Then my wife made an executive decision. "Pack up the chairs, and load the cooler. We're going to the beach." We left Hillsboro about 6:45 AM. It's kinda funny how we still have to get up early...we loaded up the car and headed to Del Ray Beach. We we were all hungry, but Jorene had a plan the whole time. We pulled up to Camp 18 just before 8 AM , and walked up to the restaurant. There were tons of amazing wood carvings as well as other cool decorations. We walked in...the interior was totally open and amazing. The construction was classic and let's just say that it could have been my house. We enjoyed the IQ test at the table. The kids were pretty good at it and they were cooler than that other "Place with the rocking chairs". We placed our order. I got the omelette w sausage and cheese, Jorene got the same with bacon, my daughter got the French toast, and my little man got bacon and eggs. Let me say this..I usually don't really enjoy fried potatoes. Most of the time they are chunked to big and are mushy or raw. These were tasty. They had a slight crunch on the fried side, but they were small enough to have an amazing texture. My omelette was super tasty. Everything was distributed evenly throughout and the flavor was good. Jorene loved hers as well. But Gavin somehow managed to get some of the bacon. Zadie was very happy with the french toast. She expressed with a full mouthful "These are really good". Or I think that is what she said. We had a great time looking at all of the saws and stuff on the wall, and the coffee was pretty darn good as well. Pretty reasonably priced for a family of 4. My boyfriend and our friends at here for breakfast. This was my first time in Oregon and we were passing through to get to Cannon Beach, headed there for New Years. Our friends suggested this place to us and it couldn't have been cuter. We just moved here from the south, and when we walked in the restaurant, I felt so at home and cozy. When we arrived we were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The food was tasty! I had the short stack of pancakes with marionberry sauce/syrup drizzled on top. I never had marionberry syrup before, let alone even heard of it, but I'm a new fan! The plates are huge. Neither of us could finish our meals. Breakfast ends at 2, and meals range from about $10-20 per plate. I will probably be splitting my plate with a friend next time! After your tummy is full to the brim, a walk outside may be the perfect thing. Luckily there are many things to see and lots of picture taking opportunities here, so don't forget to bring your camera! Everything was clean and beautifully decorated for the holidays. All the wood carvings, and giant antler chandelier. It took my breath away. Outside of the restaurant, there are many things to look at like an old water tower, train car, creek out back, old wooden carvings and a ton of cats! I really liked how the restaurant has beds and places to sleep for all the cats outside. I thought that was really sweet and a very humane thing to do to help animal life. The cats I interacted with were very friendly, but I can't speak for all of them! There is also a gift shop. We didn't go into this but I bet they have some cool gifts! My wife and family have been eating at Camp 18 for many years - maybe 20; certainly close - including every Thanksgiving. You could say it's a tradition. Clearly, the single biggest draw is the building. It's an amazing structure in and out. I will admit that over the years, service has been hit and miss. We were there earlier today and had great service. Other times, not so much. The food is generally good. Like any restaraunt, it's highly subjective. Yes, it's standard fare and it can be bland. Chicken fried steak is my favorite breakfast, and Camp 18's isn't the very best - the meat is a tad stringy and yes, the coating doesn't adhere well to the meat - big deal. The gravy is great and the eggs are perfect. The only real disappointment with that meal is that they won't let you sub a pancake for the biscuit. Not a deal-breaker for me. My wife had the cinnamon roll and besides being huge, it's delish. Her 18 year old nephew had bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, and hash. He sniffed it all up and had no complaints. Thanksgiving at Camp 18 is, for us, a real treat. It's hugely busy, and we find making no reservation works better than having one so long as you're not picky about where you sit. We've taken a Thanksgiving table in the upstairs bar more than once (we don't drink) and yes, the lady that runs it is disorganized. But if you can look past that, the buffet is as wonderful as the food is good. I wouldn't drive out to just eat at Camp 18 without going to the coast, but I wouldn't go to the coast without stopping to eat at Camp 18. If you don't like good comfort food and you're not interested in large servings, and you place the utmost importance on service, then you should drive past Camp 18. Otherwise, this just might be your huckleberry. read more

Dinner again at Camp 18! Another fantastic meal and a fantastic drive to get there. My wife had liver and onions! I had the Riggin Boss Burger. The Burger was like a French dip burger and it Rocked! We ordered a salad to share but as we were waiting we saw a gentleman order the clam chowder and it looks great so we ordered a bowl to share. The chosder is a very close otion to Mos so close that we will come here if we dont feel like driving all the way to the beach for chowder. Great service sat in the fireside room and it was very cozy and warm. Love love love this place! read more
