We visited Cape Neddick Lobster Pound on a busy Sunday evening based on advice from a friend. The service and staff in general were fantastic - especially considering it was wall-to-wall customers. The place has a nice view of the water as well. It was clean and the general feel of the place was very good. We had pretty high expectations and are both seafood lovers. My wife had the baked scallops with rice and asparagus. She found the scallops a bit tough and maybe not the freshest she's had. The rice and asparagus were "ok". I went for the lazy lobster. On the menu it's a 1 1/2 pound lobster cracked and removed from the shell. The "market price" was $62. It was served with a side of coleslaw, and ear of corn, and a dinner roll. There wasn't much lobster to speak of, one decent size claw, one scrawny claw, and a tail from something that may have been a one-pounder at best. Sautéed and served with warm butter. It wasn't the best lobster I had that week. The corn might have been the best part of the meal. Sorry to say the food is worth no more than two stars, the service and setting much more. read more

Went to York with my husband and kids for Father's Day this past weekend. We drove by this restaurant on the way to our hotel and I thought looks cute and looks like it has great views well try it for dinner. The fact that the place was pretty empty should have been a warning sign. I am not one to write bad reviews as I have worked in the service industry my whole life, but the food was horrible. Edible but not what you expect when you go out for an almost $200 seafood dinner. My husband got the surf and turf, steak was tiny and over cooked and the lobster tail on top was also over cooked and tiny. The fried calamari tasted like Kentucky fried chicken and the clam chowder was okay. I got fish and chips which was cold and alittle soggy but again was edible. The service was okay, a lot of young high school girls who had no idea what they were doing. Thank god for the beautiful view and two glasses of wine I had. Still tipped 20 percent because I always do no matter what, I understand staffing is hard because it's the first summer back from covid but we will not be back. read more

We just had dinner at Cape Neddick Lobster Pound. This was our first visit and we we're looking forward to a nice meal. I ordered the fisherman's choice which was $27 on the menu. When the bill came they charged me $32 . I asked the waitress if there was a mistake and she said that there was an extra charge because of the two choices I made. I asked her to check for me and she came back and said, oh we need to update the menu's it really isn't clear about the added prices. The lobster dishes are very fresh and meat tender. We enjoyed the curry and stuffed lobster. 4.5/5. But the fried captains platter was just ok. The clams didn't seem super fresh and the scallops were over fried kind of dry. The lobster roll was ok 3.5/5, we like Bob's 5/5 and Footbridge 4/5 better. It was the best lobster roll I've had, not that I've had many. It's a no frills kind of place with a local market type feel and picnic tables for eating outside. This is one of the lobster places that is off the main road, it is a place with a view. The restaurant resembles a cabin, a homey kind of feel. It has a beautiful view of the lake. Parking is limited and you may actually have no room to park. We got there and we had one spot left and the restaurant is not even crowded late afternoon. I had the lobster roll and it was delicious. Maine lobster tastes so much better than lobster from anywhere in the states, it must be the salt water that the lobster lives in. They also offer this place as a wedding venue, the look and view of the restaurant explains this awesome spot. Prices are above average but you paying for the view and experience. read more

Mid-July, Tuesday night. We arrived at 7 and were told an hour wait. There had to be a dozen or more empty tables. Fortunately we only waited 1/2 hour. New ownership has brought in brighter look and some interior upgrades. All look terrific. The view of course is fantastic. The tidal marsh, docks and old lobster shack are incredible backdrops for photos. Service was somewhat slow and waitstaff seemed young and inexperienced. Our waiter seemed conscious of the fact that service would be slow and did his best to condition us to it. Side salads were good, but dressing was scant. The waiter asked if we wanted more, probably a frequent request. Cocktails were fine, but entrees were delivered without sides. That was corrected quickly. The high volume buzz and raucous environment is gone. We saw customers leave that were not willing to wait an hour or more. Food was good and portions were ample. You get the feeling the place is just getting its sea legs and will once again be packed on any given summer night. This assumes the skeletal crew can be bolstered with more experienced veterans to prevent paying customers from walking out the door. We are long time customers and entered with trepidation due to it being under new management. We will reserve judgement as to trajectory of the place. Dined here Friday night as part of a large group. They don't take reservations after 6:30pm, which we didn't understand when we first walked in before it was dead. But then the place filled up right around 7 and had a very nice atmosphere. The sun setting over the harbor was beautiful. Everyone in the party enjoyed their food. We had many people with different food restrictions and allergies and they accommodated everything. I had the fishermans baked dinner which was very good. Lots of nice sea scallops, a good piece of lobster tail, and some shrimp. The shrimp were very small though (mini mini shrimp), and for almost $30 it should have included regular sized shrimp. But the breading was delicious and the roasted veggies were good as well. The loaf of bread that came with the meal was unique and very good. Wide variety of drinks to choose from. Lobsters rolls had a good chunk of meat in them. Overall, pretty good experience! Service was great as well. Our waitress was young but very attentive and nice. read more

Wife and I were on a visit south to Portsmouth from Northern Maine visit. We jumped onto Route 1 to hit a Lobster Pound in Ogunquit, ME. YELP said they were "open" they were closed. As we both had lobster fever, we did a quick search of local lobster shacks and found the Cape Neddick Lobster Pound, a very fortuitous find indeed. First, the place is dripping quaint New England charm: from the wood construction, to the wide water views and docks and anchorages and the huge stone fireplace scenting the air with oaky perfume. We ordered a pound of steamers to get things started and a bottle of Chardonnay to wash things down. Properly primed, we ordered our lobsters, about a pound and a half each as we made the mistake of a late breakfast that same day. The lobster was cooked perfectly, tender, delicately flavored, and melted in your mouth. The steamers? Guess what we had for dessert? Yep, more steamers, we left full and happy!!! read more

So with that said our party waited forever for the food . The food came in waves some ate some were left to wait . My father in law even walked out . I don't think anyone got a side dish . What we got was a small bowl of 5 miniscule pieces of lobster soaking in butter, 5 asparagus spears and a cup of cole slaw. The market price was $42! I have been here in the past and there was no problem. Do not know what their problem was, but other seafood places in the area were good as usual. Called at 5:30 and was able to get a reservation at 6:30 for our party of 8. This was the best meal I have had in a long time. I got the filet mignon topped with lobster in a scampi sauce. It came with fingerling potatoes and green beans that were amazing! The martini was delicious as well. We had 4 young children with us and our waitress, Lily, was FANTASTIC with the!! We live in Cape Neddick and have been here before, but friends came up tonight and wanted to have dinner at the Cape Neddick Lobster Pound. We arrived at 7 pm and were seated right away. About 10 minutes later our waitress -who was a very nice young lady- arrived at our table and took our drink orders. Drinks arrived about 10 minutes later. The menu had a couple of items that said "market price" one was lobster and the other fried scallops. When I inquired about the fried scallops I was informed the dinner, which included coke slaw and fries, was $23.95. I ordered the "scallop dinner". There were 5 total in our party. Two others ordered the fried haddock dinner and two ordered the filet mignon. The food took an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive at our table and when presented, the server said "here is your scallop BASKET" and then served two "fried haddock baskets". The scallops were served in a plastic "cereal bowl" lined with a piece of paper, with a small order of soggy fries on the bottom and five medium size scallops and two small size scallops on the side of the bowl that were at best, mediocre. The fish baskets were as bad. They also were served in a plastic paper lined bowl with a small portion of fries and an embarrassing portion of mediocre fish. Neither came with Cole slaw as advertised. While eating dinner, a band started blaring music in the background. Mind you, they were talented guys but I didn't go to a nightclub for dinner, I went to a restaurant. You couldn't talk to each other because it was so loud and we were in the very back. This place should be embarrassed about their food and ripping off their customers . Obviously a tourist trap that doesn't care about the quality of food they serve. When we finally left at 9 pm, there was a sign on the way out that said "kitchen closed". My guess is that sign will be out front in a few weeks but "kitchen" will be changed to "restaurant". read more

We couldn't figure out where to eat, so we just picked here. The dining room was busy, but we were seated right away by a window viewing the river. Menu: They had a lot of appetizer options and pretty standard meal options. Meals come with a choice of two sides, and the five options are ok. We ended up having the stuffed clams, clam chowder, seafood bake, and haddock. Stuffed clams (three on the plate) came out hot and tasted good. The clam chowder was good. It's our first local clam chowder experience, and it tasted fine (my husband thought the Campbells version tasted better). The haddock was ok but nothing outstanding. My husband enjoyed his seafood bake, and he said the scallops were the best he's had. We didn't have room for dessert. This seating arrangement is just about 8 picnic tables covered in old tablecloths. However, when the food came around, we were blown away by the delishous seafood arriving before our very eyes. Another thing is to, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ASK HOW MUCH THE MARKET PRICE IS!!! Or you'll be shocked when the bill comes! Also, SO MANY DANG BEETLES!!!! New owners so since we live down the road we wanted to try it again since the ownership changed.. our server was lovely and tried to be attentive.. the food ... started with onions ring ... not great but certainly not bad ...fried items need to be served while very hot .. and these were not crispy and only warm .....the steamed clams were only fair ..and only lukewarm too ...no flavor... on to the 2lb lobsters... Very good and hot ... platter of fried shrimp and haddock good but again certainly not hot enough or even warm enough ...so I'm thinking there was a kitchen problem getting the food out& served... I believe staffing is the problem since it took so long from the very beginning ..very nice diverse menu and pleasant host& servers ... Ordered appetizers and the dinner special. Dinner special was supposed to include steamers and lobster. Appetizers and steamers were all brought out together, which was a little overwhelming. After we finished with that, it took at least 30 minutes to get out cold lobsters and undercooked baked potatoes. Shocked to discover their market price for lobster was so high in coastal Maine. For the same price that got us two 1-1/4 lb cold lobsters, several places up the road would have given us six lobsters of similar size. If you really want good lobster at a fair price, you should look elsewhere. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for 20 years, but last night was the worst meal I've ever had. It can't be the original owners of the restaurant. I ordered chicken tenders and onion rings. Both items came out very dark brown and the chicken was not tenders but a flat piece of dried out chicken. It was all totally over cooked.
