She made an attempt at latte art but obviously does not how to do it. The outcome looks like what I do at home. She was going to snap the lids on before I could see, but I snagged them in time to have a look. This is yet another establishment with no dishwasher so everything will be in a paper or plastic cup, or a pastry bag. We really enjoyed our visit to the Capitol Cafe during the 30th Annual Books Festival held in front of the State Capitol. The place isn't small but given how busy it was, the place felt crammed but the line moved fast. The interior theme is fantastic and creates a really warm, inviting ambiance - a nice extension of patriotism carried from the State Capitol. It was a hot November day after long walks through the fair; we came for the cold brew and ice cream, and they did not disappoint. The cold brew is excellent--strong and smooth without much acidity. They carry Amy's ice cream and options were limit. Expect typical Amy's sweet ice cream. It was decent and nothing to rave home for. They have a wide variety of baked goods so you can guarantee to find something for everyone in all ages and with different taste buds. read more

Decent. Nothing to write home about. Interior and furnishing are really nice. They don't serve food anymore 30 min to close. They have a food menu but no prices on it.... When I asked if they had one with prices they said no?? What?? Um, how do you have a menu with no prices? Their drink menu does but their food menu doesn't. Make it make sense. read more

This place is quite small and has a lot of pictures dedicated to congressman and women, governors and senators. That's not a bad thing at all. I really dig the aesthetic in here and it gives a political twist on a coffee shop. My coffee was also really good too (Irish cream & butter toffee speciality drink). Only thing I didn't know was they don't serve food 30 min before closing. So keep that in mind. Otherwise I had a great time here! read more

I have really taken a liking to this coffee stop. A lot of effort went into decorating this place. It has wonderful State Capital accents throughout and it is a place that you can casually visit, or you can be dressed up to the nines and not feel over dressed. It's the perfect business meeting spot. I love to stop here on the way to the capital. Also, dogs are allowed in the outdoor patio. Here the coffee is as fresh as can be, and the employees are always helpful. Some coffee shops try to push their one brand of sweetener on you, but here there is as large a variety as can be here. read more

It has a good atmosphere, and the service seems good as well. Being so close to the Capitol, and smack dab in the bluest part of the bluest city in Texas (demographically), it has an interesting mix of people coming and going. I needed a place to charge my phone this afternoon, and this was the first place I stumbled upon. Of course, my introverted ass drank in every moment - watching the hustle and bustle come and go; listening to conversations of young urban professionals, legislative pros, and young progressive ideologues. The coffee is very good here, as are the snack food offerings: sweets, muffins, etc. I just wished that they had a chocolate muffin, although I wouldn't downgrade them for not offering one. The decor is very unique: items from the legislature, as well as pictures of notable personas. I love the custom State of Texas touches. I also love their coffee! A true gem I try to visit every time I'm in Austin Great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating! The location is right by the Capitol, and by so many fun places on Congress! Not just a morning place... even though the coffee selection is excellent. I've grabbed a quick lunch, and enjoyed a glass of wine /snacks with friends in the early evening! I frequent this cafe during the week and I must say that I appreciate the consistency in their coffee making skills. The staff has always been friendly to me and they have a great selection of food, coffee and many other drinks including wine and beer. I really like the breakfast sandwiches that the CapitolCafe has as well. The location of the Cafe is great as well located one block south of the Capital itself just off Congress ave. I like to grab a coffee and walk around the Capital on the weekends just because of the cafe being here. I would recommend trying them out and coming in with a friendly mindset. I stopped in for a sandwich, a bag of chips and a fountain drink, which came to $18. Overpriced? Definitely. But I was in a hurry and didn't have another option and would've overlooked it had their soda machine not exploded soda water and syrup all over my shirt and tie when I tried to fill my cup. The three employees, including the general manager, brushed it off as no big deal, which, compared to the general state of the world, it wasn't, but, as I had to head back to work with dirty, sticky clothes, their blasé attitude rubbed me the wrong way. I've worked hospitality and service industry jobs, and these folks absolutely shanked. It's not that hard to right a wrong. Rather than offering to comp my food or pay for a cleaning they chose indifference, and because of that, I won't be back. As it stands I hope that their lackluster customer service serves them well. read more

I like this place as the coffee prices are reasonable and it's close to my office. That said, I tried stopping there for a quick coffee on my way to work this morning at 7:54 (I looked at my watch) and the doors were locked despite it opening at 7:30. The dude behind the counter could barely be bothered to look up from his phone and didn't come to unlock the door to let me in. I was in hurry so I left without getting a coffee.
