Carla's is a small place just off the intersection of Hwy 119 and Union Ave. When you walk in to Carla's expect to be greeted right away by the friendly ladies who work here. There is some type of a beast mounted up on the wall, has big ass horns. Anyhow this little café has a small counter that seats 6 to 8 that wraps around in one corner. This is a plus if you come here alone, don't have to take a table if they are busy. The staff is very busy, this place has a pretty fast pace. Orders are taken, drinks and food produced pretty darn fast. The biscuits and gravy are good, did not even find myself adding any seasoning. Have also had some good pancakes and omelets are good too. I have had a couple of cheeseburgers here, with fries, they are good as well. Carla is a very hard working lady leading a great crew of people to take excellent care of the customers. Many of the customers you can tell are regulars. And one day I think they will know me as well. I do plan on being a regular. There are a lot of good places to eat in Bakersfield, and this one deserves to be on the list. read more

This is easily one of my new favorite spot. I live about a mile a away. Everything I've ordered from the OJ/ Coffee to food as been absolutely delicious. Plus the customer service here is outstanding. My favorite here is the French toast with bacon. The French toast is amazing and the bacon is extra thick and crispy. I pull my rig up to this them here hole in the wall of a restaurant. But little did I know, dat country kitchen was gone give my family a great belly rubbin' meal.i walked in the front door and I was greeted by one of dem smilin pretty country gals. Well my wife she done ordered some fresh ham cut right off da bone with sum biscuits and gravy. My daughter ordered some of da best got dayum Portuguese sausage I've seen this side of the grapevine! We found Carla's on yelp and decided to give it a go. The place is small and clean. We were there on a Saturday morning and it looked like the whole family was working. Food, omelets, french toast was great. Service was quick and courteous. Just so you know, Carla's is located right next to an "exotic" nightclub. Of course, for breakfast and lunch the nightclub is closed so no big deal, but I could imagine that this would be a turn off for some folks. Where the locals eat. In south Bakersfield area of Greenfield, Carla's Cafe is where the action is. It's a small, homey restaurant with pictures and decorations on the wall. And I also must not forget to mention the bull on Carla's wall. We asked if the bull was real. The answer was "Yes". They serve typical diner food breakfast and burger and sandwich lunches. Breakfast comes with choice of hash browns or country potatoes, toast or biscuit with gravy. Their burgers and sandwiches includes choice of French fries, potato salad, macaroni salad, soup or fruit. We ordered the pastrami burger [$9.25] and a BLT sandwich [$7.85]. The pastrami was slightly crispy and caramelized. It came with lettuce, sliced red onion, and sliced tomato. Our custom made hamburger patty was so thick we could not get our mouths to open that wide. They were also generous with the shoestring French fries. The bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich had several thick cut slices of crisp bacon. The potato salad was made the old fashion way. I prefer a little tang or kick to my potato salad. The menu and size of the restaurant would be just right for the small community of Greenfield on the old forgotten 99 Highway [South Union Avenue] near Taft Highway. Hands down my favorite breakfast spot in Bakersfield. The service was great, Carla was very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, my husband got the Chicken Fried Steak and could literally cut it with his fork! The meats were so fresh! I got the pancake combo with eggs and sausage patty, the sausage was so fresh and juicy and the pancakes were light and fluffy with the right amount of sweetness even without syrup. The hashbrowns were perfect, crispy non-greasy outside with softness inside. The Coffee was great and not burnt like most Cafes and the iced tea was served in a very large glass and was some of the best tea I've had. We will definitely be coming back! What a hidden gem! My family thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and friendly service at Carla's. The "hot mess" of biscuits and gravy was "fire" according to my teenage son and "just like homemade" from my husband with Southern roots. The host made us feel very welcome and this place appears to be a local's favorite. Will be coming back here again on our next family trip to SoCal. It seems I only post reviews of places whilst on the road and for me that's just fine, since that is the majority of my retail dining. So, for Carla's Cafe, it's no different. We are on our way back home from Arizona and camped out the previous night. Our plan was to get up and get back in the road as soon as possible. So we got up, and headed to Bakersfield, as we were driving I looked into breakfast places and found Carla's Cafe is the only one with a consistent 5 star review, with just over 75 reviews, right away I said yes, without even thinking if it was actually on our way home. It was if you consider going 7 miles in the opposite direction on the way. So we get to Carla's and was immediately greeted and seated. She took our drink orders then came back with our coffees and water, took our food order and I had already looked at the menu ahead of time, so I knew what I was getting. I ordered the spicy patty and two eggs Sunny side up with country potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Yeah this was a big breakfast, but I also skipped dinner the night before, so it was a meal I really needed. To say the least, my eggs were perfect with runny yolks, the spicy patty is exactly as described, spicy and tasty, the country potatoes were crisp outside and moist inside, the biscuit and gravy was delightful. I ate the whole meal, nothing went to waste. The service was on point and sociable as well. I will be back, next time I'm passing through Bakersfield. read more
