This is a quirky little place. We happened to find it just by searching for something new on Yelp. It is a bit out of the way but it was a slow weekend morning for us so it was nice to get out of the city. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a nice smiling face and that is usually a good sign that the rest of our visit will be good. Now about the inside. It is a bit old, the seats at the counter are tearing but it feels like an old country diner. They did have a TV and it was playing college football. A major plus for me! We ordered coffee and were given the two most random mugs I have ever been served. It looks as if the owner went to the local thrift shop and just bought what they had there because one was for a business and the other was a Christmas mug. The Christmas mug was chipped all along the bottom but thankfully not around the top part. The coffee was good for a breakfast diner. Not the best but better than average. The food was good. The best part here were the eggs. They are super fresh eggs that they must have purchased through a farmer around the area because they were tasty and had a wonderful orange yolk. Yes, good yolks are orange! The bacon was cooked well and tasty. The bread was not the most recognizable brand but they didn't burn it which I have encountered a few times lately. I would totally recommend this place if you want to leave the city, have a great hunger or just want friendly service. This is how breakfast should be. read more

We went there for breakfast this morning. Again this place is not a big place. We entered were told to have seat where we liked to be seated. It's very nicely decorated. My favorite thing is the bull head, very cool. Kids would enjoy seeing it. Well I shared a plate with my husband a veggie omlete and country potatoes and biscuit and gravy and an orange juice and water. We got a side of bacon cooked crisp too. The food came out quickly, and I loved that. And it was very tasty. It was a perfect amount for us to share. I'm not that big of an eater but we were both full. The wait staff is friendly, it's clean and prices are good and so is the food. It's a little out of the way but worth it for a good meal. So if your looking for a spot to try and haven't been out here, I really don't think you'd be disappointed. So I'm adding this to one of a few of my favorite breakfast spots and we definitely plan on eating here again. read more

Carla's cafe is so far south and away from everything, we never were able to try it. We finally decided to try it. We were not disappointed. Small and quaint place with friendly service. We went for breakfast which was really good. I had the chicken fried chicken with country potatoes, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. The only thing I didn't care that much about was the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was dry and cold, but the rest of the meal was excellent. My boyfriend had a French toast combo with hash browns and eggs. All of it was delicious. If you're looking for a hole in the wall place with great food and service, this is your place. read more

This is a mom pop diner. You are greeted as soon as you come in. You sit where you like. We had breakfast, my son had pancakes, my daughter a biscuit and gravy, my other daughter had the veggie omelette, while I had the original breakfast meal. It's healthy and nutritious. Took my mom here for breakfast recently. When we arrived, I honestly wasn't sure what to think. Definitely has a small town, ranch vibe to it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Not bad ! I always like a mom and pop kind of diner coz they seems to care of what they serve and what they offer. We were greeted by a lady the moment we entered door. Later on I found out that the lady was Carla. She seemed to know all the customers who's coming as she knows their names and their drinks . It's a small restaurant with a home feel like atmosphere. I kinda skeptical when I first saw the outside and also the inside of the place. My husband said are you sure the food will be good. Told him let's give it a try we drive all the way from Rosamond. Carla's is a small place just off the intersection of Hwy 119 and Union Ave. When you walk in to Carla's expect to be greeted right away by the friendly ladies who work here. There is some type of a beast mounted up on the wall, has big ass horns. Anyhow this little café has a small counter that seats 6 to 8 that wraps around in one corner. This is a plus if you come here alone, don't have to take a table if they are busy. The staff is very busy, this place has a pretty fast pace. Orders are taken, drinks and food produced pretty darn fast. The biscuits and gravy are good, did not even find myself adding any seasoning. Have also had some good pancakes and omelets are good too. I have had a couple of cheeseburgers here, with fries, they are good as well. Carla is a very hard working lady leading a great crew of people to take excellent care of the customers. Many of the customers you can tell are regulars. And one day I think they will know me as well. I do plan on being a regular. There are a lot of good places to eat in Bakersfield, and this one deserves to be on the list. read more
